Hello again! We’re back for another family meeting. We’ve already discussed Character Values, which are the reason your Sims will now care about how their children are raised. Character Values will convey permanent Traits to your Sims, which means they might be upstanding citizens, or the town miscreants, or…something in between.

However, it isn’t sufficient to tell you about the final destination. The journey itself is important, which is why today we’re telling you all about those actual parenting moments. These are the minute-to-minute choices and decisions your Sims will have to make with permanent consequences.

The Sims Blog: Become a Super Parent with New Parenting Skill!

Many of the behaviors your Sims have always performed are now tied fully into the Character Values system. This means children who get into fights, burp, or complete their homework will be rewarded accordingly. However, you don’t get excited about Game Packs to see gassy complications, which is why we’ve also filled it with new content!

Sims of all ages can now throw tantrums and have absolute emotional meltdowns. Teens have dramatic mood swings, and trust us, you’ll see it when it happens. Siblings will pick on each other with a variety of new socials, including the rather feral new Bite interaction from Toddlers. And be sure to keep an eye out for young children, as they may throw paint all over the ground.

It’s not all bad, though! Families can hug it out; children can be sent to time out; and families can volunteer together to do some public good and right their wrongs. A young child can set the table before dinner, leading to a perfectly family dinner, and parents can send their children off to school with a lovingly packed sack lunch. When the teens aren’t listening, you can also set curfew and hope they obey.

The Parenting Skill is powerful and as Sims level up their Skills they’re granted powerful new interactions. Parents can go from nobodies to super moms and dads, and it’s quite something to see. Sims build their Parenting Skill by disciplining their children, primarily. As they level up, they can give parenting tips to others, help solve negative emotional Moodlets and Need Moodlets on their children, and even gain the ability to influence their children to change their behavior.

There’s some powerful stuff here! It’s a full tool set for your Sims to explore their parenting ninjitsu as they groom and mold their offspring. But, don’t take our word for it. Try out The Sims™ 4 Parenthood when it launches worldwide for PC and Mac via Origin on May 30, 2017.

How will your Sims raise their children? Which new behaviors excite you the most? Tell us in the forums or on social media! Be sure to check out our latest trailer highlighting game play features.
