A small look into tomorrow’s Sims 4 Update release.
As announced in the official roadmap, there’s going to be a new Sims 4 Update released on August 19th, 2025 across Desktop and Console platforms. Along this announcement were also news about the Ailments Feature getting additionally fine tuned through a new Game Option.
With the official Sims Blog post that just came out today, we now know that both updates will be happening throughout the same patch. Tomorrow, new skin customization options will be available as stated in the official announcement!
Take a look at the feature addition in Game Options for The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature. Explained by one of the developers working on the game:
Sul Sul! This is Nate, lead Designer of the Enchanted by Nature Expansion Pack. I’m here to talk a little bit about Ailments, how we developed them, and the game settings toggle we’re adding to give more agency to choose how Ailments manifest in your game.
Our hope with Ailments was to create interesting situations that ask you to change up how you play. The way they affect a Sim’s life can look and feel different depending on how you meet it: it can be a bump in the road, a chance to flex the Apothecary skill, or perhaps an unexpected benefit! For instance, Greenie Meanie’s symptoms can strain relationships, but also provide a Gardening skill boost. If you’re a Sim who spends more time with plants than other Sims, it’s actually quite helpful!
Living up to this aspiration of challenge and reward for each of the broad array of Ailments was no small task and I’m proud of the team’s hard work. At the same time, we heard your feedback loud and clear that Ailments were happening too often!
We’re going beyond the recent patch, which reduced the chance of contagious Ailments spread across the game, to also add a new settings toggle which disables Ailment spread completely. Find it by going to the Main Menu and selecting Game Options > Pack Settings. Under the section for Enchanted by Nature, you’ll see the settings toggle Enable Ailment Spread. When this is disabled, Ailments can no longer jump from one Sim to another and Sims have no chance of picking up Ailments in their day-to-day life. Sims with current Ailments will still have them, which you can wait out or cure through whichever method you prefer. You can change the toggle back and forth at any time. Check out the FAQ for more details!
We hope that adding this toggle setting will help you find new and more satisfying ways to incorporate Enchanted by Nature in your play and storytelling. Now if you’ll excuse me, my Sims have a date to press some flowers then take a nap in the forest. Dag Dag!
F.A.Q.
What will I see with this new Ailments Spread toggle?
The Ailment Spread toggle is enabled by default. If you do nothing, Ailments will continue working the same way (including the reduced chance of spreading added by the recent patch.)
What will happen in my save if I choose to disable Ailments Spread?
Sims won’t get Ailments from any contagious source. This means no chance of Ailments from day-to-day activity like going to work or high school, or from Foraging. It also means no chance of picking up an Ailment from being around a Sim who has one.
Ailments that are present in your save when you disable the toggle will still be there. Sims will still need to wait it out or seek a cure, but no new Ailments will occur due to spread.
If I disable the toggle, what happens to other features in this Expansion Pack that use Ailments?
Everything still works the same, just that Ailments are no longer contagious! Here are the details:
Fairy Sims’ Cure or Apply Ailment Ability is unchanged. You can still direct Fairies to give Ailments to other Sims. While controlling a Sim with an Ailment, you can still try asking a friendly Fairy to cure you.
For the Naturopath Career, clients coming to your Sim’s home will still have Ailments that need treatment.
You can still craft Ailment cures at the Apothecary Table to sell, treat Naturopath clients, etc.
Sims who become Very Imbalanced will still develop an Ailment, but it can’t spread to anyone else. (If you’d prefer not to play with Ailments this way, you can disable the Enable Balance & Imbalance toggle on this same settings panel!)
So if I disable both Ailments Spread and Balance & Imbalance, will I see any Ailments in my game?
The only Ailments you’ll see are:
Ailments that Sims already had at the moment you disable the toggle.
Ailments you direct your Sims to put on others, via Fairies’ Cure or Apply Ailment Ability or PlantSim’s Poison Kiss interaction.
Ailments on Sims that visit when you opt for your Naturopath to receive clients at home.

Whether your Sim’s home is on a ranch or an inner city dwelling, if they enjoy gardening or other outdoor activities, a mudroom is a perfect addition for an active, outdoor lifestyle. Use the space to tell a story of their interests and hobbies — such as a set of gumboots for muddy times in the garden — or help show the day-to-day life of a family home, where leaving a pile of mail to be opened is commonplace. A mudroom is the entryway into your Sim’s lives.

Transform your Sims’ makeup look with items like foundation, contour, and highlight. Add unique items like faux freckles and beauty marks to complete your look. Whether it’s for date nights, weddings, award ceremonies, or graduations, this Kit guarantees every Sim can showcase their unique style.

Spread Your Wings with our Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature CC Recommendations!
With Enchanted by Nature approaching one month since its official release, browsing both brand new and older mystical creations by custom content creators has been a pastime of mine, finding hidden gems from the past or new items to spice up the game! Browse these Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature CC recommendations to expand your fairy’s closet and overhaul your game!

Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature CC Recommendations
Since many members of The Sims Community have been begging for fairies to be added (as far back as 2018!) due to the overwhelming popularity of the occult in the Sims 3: Supernatural, there is absolutely loads of both new and pack compatible mystical custom content, as well as older options that still provide tons of variety for your The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature CC searches!
Defaults & Overrides
Defaults and Overrides are terms primarily used for mods and custom content that change something within the game. Most commonly, these include Eyes, Skin textures, and Create-A-Sim backgrounds, but almost anything in the game can be overridden, even things like food textures, utensils, and entire terrain textures!
Disclaimer: Responsible Usage of Overrides & Defaults
It is recommended that you keep defaults separate from other custom content in your mods folder. Since defaults replace an in-game asset, they can easily conflict with anything that also changes that asset. For example, you can choose different eye sets for different occults or sim types (including pets and other animals), but you can’t have say, two sets of Alien eye replacements.
Clover Eyes by Myshunosun
Myshunosun, a maxis-match creator part of the EA creator network, was the first I found to update their classic Clover Eyes to include the new fairy swatches, completely overhauling them to something more otherwordly and beautiful!
The 9PM Eyes by ancenth are an amazing collection of custom and default eyes, as well as tiny details to make each sim have a unique gaze. The eye defaults are separated and even expanded upon to include more swatches of insect-like eyes, ones with goat-like pupils, and so much more!
This Create-A-Sim background by Bloomberry is so beautiful and warm, the background accent lights making for a cozy background while you’re scrolling through endless CAS assets to pick out the perfect hair, outfit, or skin detail. Paired with a warm-toned Create-a-Sim lighting mod and you feel immersed!
For something closer to the original swatches, someone-elsa provides a great set of overrides, adding small catchlights and detail to make them clear and realistic while keeping with a Maxis Match style!
Dynastid eyes by Squea are a great mix between realistic and adorably cartoony, especially with their occult overrides! With tons of additional swatches as well, the set adds so much more customization and expands your options when creating your sim!
Another Create-A-Sim background by Bloomberry, this time fitting very well with the Naturopath and living among nature aesthetic provided by The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature! The floor is bare with only grass as a simple cover, and it almost looks like the inside of the fairy homes!
Pondskater eyes by Squea are a culmination of their many eye sets from over the years, including certain details and features found in the Dynastid set also featured in this article!
Gloomy Eyes by GloomyClauds (aka LaulauPlays!) are almost comparable to jewels or gems, with a beautiful shine and deep rich colors that make them striking on any sim! The width of the color schemes also allow for compatibility or matching with any pair of wings, set of clothes, or anything else you may want to match up!
From clothes to simple overlays, Create-A-Sim has flourished with more options for your mystical and occult sims, especially those of the fairy or even the plantsim persuasion!
Ailments Overlays by j3lly-fish
With the sometimes controversial but ever-present ailments found in The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature, everyone playing with the pack has probably seen just about every possible illness and overlay. However, maybe you liked how one of them looked, especially on a color-coordinated fairy form! J3lly-fish provides a great option to diversify your sims’ skin details without the sniffles or fever that may come with actually carrying the ailment!
When Enchanted by Nature first got teasers and release trailers, I was so excited for the hooved feet options to lean more into the Satyr aesthetic we see in a lot of fairy and fae media. However, the actual feet in game were a little lackluster, especially since to look like hooved feet and not just strange shoes, your sims pants options were especially limited. With this set of seamless ones by SimmerSeria, your Satyr and goat-like fairies can now wear shorts and other short inseam clothing items!
Joliebean and Dogsill join forces for a spectacular set that is both fantastical and trendy. While the set features pieces made to pair well with the aesthetics and vibes of the Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature, the pieces just fit into a relaxed but elegant look as well.
An equally beautiful set from Joliebean, the fairy princess set is a great option that was released quite a while ago, before fairies were even a twinkle in the eye of the Sims Team! The dress and shoes work together beautifully and the asymmetry makes it striking and original.
A bit of an oldie but a goodie, Nolan-Sims Simblreen set from almost three years ago fits into the aesthetic of this pack well, especially when you take into consideration that we did get a set of flower petal hats for toddlers and infants! Now parents can match their little ones, in a way!
Trillyke created beautiful little almond-shaped nails with shiny designs of butterfly wings, with tons of swatches! Any sim can have a fresh matching set, fairy or not!
This multi-piece set features a matching skirt and top, arm sleeves, shoes, a loose belt and arm cuff for a put-together look that can go from the fairy hub of Innisgreen to the karaoke bars of San Myshuno!
On the softer side, this matching set is cutesy and all put-together, with tons of swatches to mix and match to fit just about any sim looking for a frilly tutu and chunky mary janes!
You can either have one accessory earing or a matching set of wings with Trillyke’s new set, fit for just about any occasion where a pop of color is needed!
Although little ones don’t show off their fairy traits until they hit their teen years, you can still dress them in the sweetest little outfits to show off their more magical and whimsical side!
Now, if you’re feeling like your plantsims need something more, Plantainboat has created many sets of accessories, genetics, skin details, and so much more to give them something besides plain green skin and the same base game green hair. These “horns” can prop up like strong feathered leaves, flop down like the supple ears of a bunny, or stand like true horns. They come in a wide array of colors so your plant sims can pull inspiration from real world plants, or any real world inspiration you’d like!
An adorable little antennae-like flower sprouts from your sims head, and can either be plain, pride-inspired, eye-like, or have a teeny skull dotted in the middle! Whatever fits your sim and their style!
The eyebrows and color schemes that come with this set excited me so much, and Plantainboat did a beautiful job on the textures. They’re smooth and they fit so well with other Maxis Match CC and Base Game items.
This specific set really got me pumped because the leafy tattoos remind me so much of the original Sims 2 Plantsims, with swirly leaves that can fit almost any skin tone or complexion, and with light color dustings on the hands and feet or not!
Need more decor and functional items! So many creators have built beautiful sets of decorations or entire room sets that fit almost seamlessly with The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature!
Fairylicious Set by Felixandre & The Clutter Cat
The lack of items for child sims and younger broke my heart when The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature came out, but Felixandre and The Clutter Cat partnered up for the sweetest child’s room set, with plushies, a cardboard playhouse castle, and even a little desk set with a unicorn chair!
Jellypawss set includes an adorable crib and froggy chair, with tons of decoration that can work in just about any room! The moss-like couch fits right in with the decorations from the pack itself!
Playing with fairies in Sulani and looking for something that goes well with the golden sand and volcanic rock? Lumenniveus created a quaint home for your tropical fae friends, made out of a clam and decorated with tropical leaves and flowers, all propped up on a dark volcanic stone chunk.
Fairy Energy Drink: Liquid Fairy Dust Tray by Lumenniveus
Another piece from Lumenniveus is a quick fix for your sims struggling to keep their emotional energy up! Functioning similar to the hot cocoa trays and outdoor drink trays, these work as a little pick-me-up or as an elegant party drink for your next fairy soiree!
This fairy house set by Severinka_ fits well into the hobbit-style homes we’ve seen built since the packs release, and it also can be worked into both Maxis-Match and Alpha CC-based games, making it almost universal depending on your playstyle!
These adorable mushrooms can be placed inside or outside, and sized up or down to fit your needs! While they fit great into Innisgreen, I also think they’d look adorable in a custom build on the Sylvan Glade hidden lot!
Your Naturopath need more mysterious bottles, tinctures, and potions to decorate their stand or workshop? These little pieces by DanSimsFantasy are both mystical and they light up, adding just a tad more detail and subtle glow to your sims ailment-curing work!
Leaning a bit more into the Alpha style, Mini Simmer has a cute little set of rustic and somewhat farmhouse-like fairy items that blend well with nature, including the sweetest little rocking chair! (Personally, my favorite is the mushroom candle!)
Have you found any hidden gem sets or pieces that have changed how you play The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature? Make sure to keep an eye on The Sims Community for more custom content recommendations, for The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature and beyond!

How Has Apothecary In The Sims Evolved from The Sims Medieval to The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature?
A recent online resurgence of The Sims Medieval, paired with the release of The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature, has us thinking– how has Apothecary in The Sims evolved over the years? We’ve done some digging, and, of course, some playing, so keep reading to learn more about how the Apothecary specialty has changed throughout The Sims universe.
Table of Contents
The Sims Medieval is a Spin-Off, drawing from essential The Sims 3 mechanics. In the game, you play as multiple Sims with various hero specialties, such as Wizard, Apothecary, and Monarch, which you use to complete quests and achieve ambitions. In this world, your Sims rely on Apothecaries to craft cures for illnesses, wounds, and more. The Apothecary skill is reintroduced in The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature, bringing back the ability to create natural remedies for your community.
The Apothecary, Naturopath, and Doctor Careers
Apothecary Career
Apothecary heroes in The Sims Medievalare referred to as Bloodletters. As a Bloodletter, your Sim relies on the Physician skill and is responsible for gathering ingredients to Craft Cures, Healing Sick and Injured Sims, Applying First Aid, Diagnosing Illnesses, and Researching unidentified illnesses to protect the townsfolk and the kingdom. Of course, they can always choose to be a little malicious along the way.
In addition to solving illnesses of the body, Apothecaries in The Sims Medieval are often asked for help curing ailments of the heart and mind.
Naturopath Career
In the newer generation of The Sims games, The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature borrows from this gameplay and introduces the Naturopath career. The Naturopath career is a semi-active career with an in-office, work-from-home, and a rabbit hole option for scheduled work hours. Sims in this career are healers committed to crafting cures to ailments through natural and sustainable means, and will excel with the Natural Living and Apothecary skills.
Since this career is not a standard rabbit-hole career, your Sim can go out in the world to deliver Elixirs, or treat patients from the comfort of their home office. This resembles gameplay in The Sims Medieval, as Bloodletters need to venture around the open world of their kingdom to complete quest tasks.
Doctor Career
The Sims 4 Get to Work includes the classic Doctor career. This is an active career, letting you join your Sim at work to heal patients and rise through the ranks. This career is worth mentioning while we’re on the topic of Apothecary in The Sims, mostly because of the surgery aspect. Bloodletters heal injured Sims by performing surgery on the Operating Table, and can fail similarly to Doctors in The Sims 4.
Ailments and Wounds
Apothecary in The Sims adds ailments and wounds to the list of risks your Sim could encounter in The Sims Medieval and The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature. Ailments and illnesses can be contracted by interacting with a sick Sim, being cursed or placed under a spell, ignoring Needs, and more. In both of The Sims games, these ailments can negatively impact moods and career performance.
Apothecaries in The Sims Medieval are at the forefront of medical experimentation and creation, so they often spend their time researching these new illnesses and testing various recipes to craft Tonics that are the first of their kind. In The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature, Apothecaries combat known ailments through tried and true recipes.
Wounds are specific to The Sims Medieval. Interactions with the Pit Beast and tussles with Guildsmen are just some of the ways your Sim can get injured in the medieval world. These wounds range from Minor, Moderate, Major, and Extreme and require a Salve or surgery from a Bloodletter to heal.
Your Sim will need to gather Leeches from the local river to Stock their Operating Table and perform surgery. This interaction is more interactive than Apothecary gameplay in The Sims 4 because you need to carefully apply and remove the Leeches at the right point before being able to administer medication and successfully complete the surgery.
Elixirs and Potions
Elixirs and Potions can be crafted in both The Sims Medieval and The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature for reasons other than aiding the ill and wounded. In The Sims 4, Apothecaries can craft helpful Elixirs, such as Hooked on Nature, and harmful Elixirs, such as Noxious Gas. These can be gifted to other Sims to mischievously ruin their day.
Apothecaries in The Sims Medieval can craft their own helpful Tonics and Potions, such as Mouthwash and a Fireproofing Potion, to give to other Sims or sell. They can also craft harmful creations, such as Sleeping Draught and Monarch’s Poison.
Aside from being able to craft these Tonics and Potions, Apothecaries in The Sims Medieval can use their Tonics to tamper with the town’s water supply at the well, for better or for worse!
Apothecary in The Sims: Compare & Contrast
It might seem like Apothecaries in The Sims Medieval have a more detailed gameplay than the Apothecaries introduced by The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature; however, that may just be due to the open world map of the kingdom and the quests your Sim has to complete. If you look closely, you’ll notice Apothecary in The Sims hasn’t evolved very much.
Daily Life of an Apothecary in The Sims
The Sims of the medieval world treated their careers as their true passions, letting them creep into every aspect of their lives. In The Sims Medieval, Apothecaries often spent hours researching illnesses and wounds and traveling around the kingdom to collect rare ingredients and hand-deliver precious cures. Apothecaries ran their businesses from home and made house calls as needed.
In the modern world of The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature, life as an Apothecary is pretty similar. Apothecaries can choose where they conduct business, rely on Foraging for their apothecary ingredients, and often bring their cures directly to their patients.
I feel the difference here comes from the lack of variety across The Sims 4 DLCs in general, making The Sims Medieval shine in comparison as an isolated game. In The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature, the addition of the Apothecary skill and the Naturopath career simply feels like any other career or skill added to the game. Many of the animations seem to be reused from the Doctor career, and the Elixirs are similar to the Potions Spellcasters use in The Sims 4: Realms of Magic. This takes some of the excitement out of the Apothecary skill.
Luck and Balance
An interesting feature of both games is Luck and Balance. Luck in The Sims Medieval is determined by your Sims’ mood, quest and quest task progression, daily task progressions, personality traits, and any illnesses or wounds they may have. Having good luck will positively impact certain interactions, increasing the odds of successfully crafting a Tonic or discovering herbs, while bad luck will have the opposite affect. This feature is pretty straightforward and easy to acclimate to as you play the game.
In The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature, the Luck and Balance system has seemed to evolve to be overly sensitive and, in my opinion, adds confusion to the Simology panel. Many Simmers have reported their Sims constantly struggling with bad luck, making for a frustrating gaming experience. Thankfully, this can be disabled through Game Options.
Looking back at its creation in 2011 and its reintroduction in 2025, Apothecary in The Sims has been an ancillary feature used to further stories and cause havoc. But has it truly changed at all? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

This time focusing on players who feel disconnected with the game.
A new Sims 4 Player Survey has surfaced around August 11th, 2025. Titled “The Sims 4 – New Content”, the player-focused survey focuses on the player’s hypothesized disinterest in the game. As well as asking about the player’s identity information such as race, gender and sexual orientation.
Here’s a breakdown of this short fueled official EA survey:

Unlike previous official EA surveys that take several minutes to complete, this survey consists of only two questions.
The first question asks the player about the possible reasons why they might’ve stopped playing, or have taken a break from The Sims 4. There’s more than two dozens of reasons listed, ranging anywhere from personal ones like hardware setup, personal time or wanting to play other games to game-related reasons. Like the number of DLCs, the game feeling “repetitive”, outdated or glitched out.
The second part of the new Sims 4 Player survey focuses solely on collecting player’s personal information. Like the player’s race/ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation.
The latest official survey is live right now. You can take it by pressing the survey button below!
Electronic Arts has pushed out multiple official Sims 4 Surveys over the last couple of weeks. We had an official Animations survey two weeks ago asking about which core animations we want to see improved. Then, a Sims 4 Updates Survey surfaced last week asking about what type of Free Content we want to see more of in The Sims 4 Base Game.
The latest 3rd Sims 4 Player Survey could be used to gain extra statistics and information about prioritizing future Sims 4 Game updates. Considering it focuses solely on the player’s reason for distancing from the game and their private information.

There’s been a new Sims 4 Kits leak: a recent post on X from well-known Sims figure Anadius revealed that two new pieces of DLC are coming our way, as well well known information about the next game patch.
New Sims 4 Kits Leak
Since it has been a while since we have had a new Stuff Pack, and the Sims team haven’t announced these releases themselves yet, these packs are most likely going to be new Kits.
SP71 and SP72 (kits?) are going to be released on August 21st. New patch on 19th. They skipped numbers but we may get SP68-70 later.
Recent post by Anadius discussing the release of two new packs
The post also notes one unusual detail: several Stuff Pack numbers have been skipped, suggesting that packs SP68-70 are still in development or planned for a future release.
If we were to look at the previous pattern of Roadmap announcements, Creator Kit releases haven’t been announced on a game release Roadmap in advance. So there is a slight chance that the new Sims 4 Kits are Creator Kits.
We would expect that the upcoming patch is going to prepare the game for these releases and potentially address some of the existing issues in the game. Plus, it’s been revealed in the official Summer 2025 Roadmap that new skin customization options will be available in another base game update on August 19!
The Sims Community will be following this closely for any more official information, including any rumor confirmations so stay tuned. You can also read our coverage of the most recent Sims 4 Kits here.

The first section of the survey covers in-game tools & items, and how satisfied you are with them to make your Sims resemble people from your cultural background, community, and culture.
Gameplay
The following section gauges player satisfaction with current cultural gameplay and how interested the community is in a number of cultural features. Members can vote on several features using ‘tokens’ that can be spent among a variety of options.

Similar to the previous sections, the Create-A-Sim section focuses on player satisfaction with current cultural and community representations, and how the team may improve the offering in future updates.
Build/Buy
The Build/Buy section gives members the option to rank the importance of various features, and also an option to write in suggestions.
Free Updates
The next section is used to gauge how players learn about the addition of new features to the Base Game, and how quick they are to play with new features.

In a surprising turn of events, The Sims 4 Nature’s Calling Event has been extended by The Sims Team. For almost an entire month!
The latest Sims 4 Live Event, which was supposed to end today (August 5th) has a new end date. And it’s for The Sims 4’s 11th anniversary on September 2nd!
There’s no current information on why the latest Sims 4 Nature’s Calling Event has been extended. However, players believe that there could be a correlation with The Sims 4 Glitch on Console where players couldn’t claim the rewards, or link their EA accounts.
When I go to claim the rewards it says that I must be connected to the internet. I am connected to the internet and I’ve checked the settings and everything else. I should be able to claim them but no matter what I do I get the same pop up. Ive tried claiming them from the menu and live mode. Nothing seems to be working. Im on console (ps4) and have the latest update.
This specific issue has been marked as “Under Investigation” by The Sims Team, with more updates on this glitch hopefully coming soon.
The official Sims 4 Live Events Survey
Did you enjoy the latest Sims 4 Nature’s Calling Live Event? The Sims Team wants to know your input in which aspects of the latest Live Event you enjoyed the most, and which aspects you didn’t.
Some questions ask if there are any new features that could be implemented into Live Events to make them better. Such as better rewards, social components, more frequent reminders and more.

They’ve said it once, and they’ve said it again. The Sims 5 is not happening, folks. For anyone thinking they were being coy or secretive about it, this should be the final nail in the coffin. Not only have they stated it’s not coming, but this time they’ve gone a step further and explained why.

Why It’s Not Happening
In a recent interview Variety sat down with EA Entertainment’s president Laura Miele and she had this to say about The Sims 5.
“What I wouldn’t want to have happen is you to have to start from day zero and start from scratch and give up all of the things that you have created, give up all of the content that you’ve purchased over the years. We put out over 85 content packs over the last 10 years on ‘The Sims 4,’ and so resetting that is not player friendly and not a good idea for our community.”
Laura Miele
Specifically, there has been 93 content packs released for Sims 4 at the time of this article–19 expansion packs, 12 game packs, 20 stuff packs, and 42 kits. At the time of this writing, while most packs are currently on sale, the Steam DLC collection for Sims 4 looks like this.
Note: The Steam page is not entirely accurate because it says there are 99 DLC, but they mistakenly list multiple of time twice, such as the Horse Ranch expansion pack. So, this number is not entirely true.
While many players expected Sims 4 to follow the path of previous Sims titles, with DLC releases for several years and then a sequel title being announced, EA decided to make Sims 4 a live service game instead. Looking at video games as a whole, this is becoming the new industry standard.
With the rising cost of video game production, and the inherent time it takes to make them from scratch versus creating content for an already released game, it makes sense. Opinions, as opinions always manage to be, are divided on whether or not this is a positive for player experience.
Reasons Players Want The Sims 5
Seemingly from the first moment Sims 4 released players were asking for a Sims 5. The sentiment was that the foundation for Sims 4 was too fragile and underdeveloped to support the game they had hoped for. Flash forward to nearly 11 years later, endless updates and content releases, and that sentiment somehow still manages to exist within the player base.
The thought seems to be that a Sims 5 release will somehow fix all of the issues that players have with Sims 4. The problem is that it wouldn’t. There’s a “grass is always greener” mentality about the game that players don’t have but imagine they could. If a Sims 5 ever released, it would never meet the expectations that players have.
I guarantee what it would do is make players look more fondly at Sims 4. It happens every single time a new Sims series releases. During Sims 3’s run players complained about how poorly optimized and programmed it was, how many game breaking issues it had, how often it crashed, how their computers couldn’t run it, how overpriced the Sims 3 Store was, how ugly the style was especially the Sims themselves, and how the launcher literally told you not to install too many packs you paid for because the game couldn’t handle all of them at one time.
Once Sims 4 released, everyone has been looking back at their memories of Sims 3 as if it was the most stable, most gorgeous, most perfect game ever created. The same would absolutely happen with Sims 4 once a Sims 5 would release. Plus, it’s important to consider that The Sims 5 could have released even worse than Sims 4.
Other players are just burnt out on Sims 4. After over a decade with one game, and almost 100 content releases, it begins to feel repetitive no matter what is added. A lot of the systems start to blur together or feel rehashed. Players would rather start anew with something that hopefully feels fresh and exciting.
Another thing players want in The Sims 5 is a different art style and aesthetic than that of Sims 4. From its inception many players did not emotionally connect with the style chosen and would prefer something more realistic like that of Sims 3. This is another opinion that is greatly divided between players.
Reasons to Stick with The Sims 4
As Miele said, it would be hard for a lot of players to move on. It’s a lot to ask of players to drop a game they’ve spent well over a grand on and start over from square one. For lifetime players that have been playing from the beginning, it would be a pretty tough sell to tell them it’s time to do it all over again for the fifth time.
There’s only so many times you can expect players to buy a Seasons or Pets expansion pack for a fourth or fifth time, for instance. EA knows this, which is why they’re opting to continue the development of Sims 4 instead of moving onto The Sims 5.
For those that have stuck with Sims 4 from the start, it’s absurd looking back at the game we started with to the game we have now. It’s entirely different, at this point. So much has been added and changed and updated and continues to do so.
They’ve said previously that they’re at a point in the life of The Sims 4 where they’re focusing more heavily on updating the foundation of the game while also still releasing new content. Refreshing parts of the game could be all that is needed to keep Sims 4 feeling fresh and exciting instead of having to move on to a new game.
With Project Rene being developed as a completely different style of Sims game instead of being Sims 5, it means players can stick with the Sims 4 collection they’ve built up over the years while still having a new Sims experience. Previously when a new Sims game released, even if a player liked the previous version better, development ceased for the past title. This is not the case with Project Rene and The Sims 4. Players who want a new experience can focus on Project Rene, players who love Sims 4 will still have new content released for them, and everyone wins.
In the words of Hannah Montana, it really is the best of both worlds.

Contagious spreading of Ailments is getting a toggle switch in a future Sims 4 Update.
The Sims Team has made an announcement late last night about a new The Sims 4 update currently in preparations. According to Maxis, the patch will incorporate a new toggle switch in the Pack Settings, letting you reduce the contagious spreading of Ailments from The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature.
Here’s what they’ve shared in the latest message:
We’ve heard your feedback on Ailment tuning in Enchanted by Nature and we’re developing a toggle to enable or disable Ailments spreading contagiously, coming in a future patch. Once disabled, Sims who already have Ailments will need to wait it out or seek a cure, but no more Sims will contract Ailments through spontaneous spread. By disabling both Enable Balance & Imbalance and Enable Ailment Spread, this will disable all natural sources of Ailments.
We’ll have more info to share with you once we’ve confirmed a release date.
FYI: There’s another Sims 4 Update expected to arrive on August 19th. The Sims Team describes that it will bring “new skin customization options”. We have to wait and see if this Ailments toggle switch will be added before the Aug 19th update. Until then, stay tuned for all the latest Sims 4 news on Sims Community!
Electronic Arts is “feverishly developing” The Sims Project Rene.
While we wait for more full stacked news developments on The Sims Project Rene and The Sims Movie, we get a glimpse of what’s going on behind the scenes with the game’s development. As well as future plans for The Sims Movie and the game’s franchise.
In an exclusive interview with Variety, EA Entertainment’s president Laura Miele shared more about their vision for The Sims Franchise. Where they currently stand with the development of The Sims Project Rene, as well as what activations should player expect with The Sims Movie.

Laura Miele on The Sims Project Rene
While EA has remained largely mum and very teasing on its upcoming multiplayer offering for “The Sims” franchise, Miele confirms it now “represents one of the biggest growth opportunities for Electronic Arts” moving forward and the team is “hard at work and feverishly developing what this [multiplayer] platform is going to be.”
“What we’re doing is upgrading and refreshing all this technology, and we’ll be adding modes of play — but we also are going to be creating and updating the base technology and the base user experience on the core game,” Miele said. “So you’re going to have this life simulation, you’re going to have multiplayer capabilities, we are going to have mobile expressions of this. We’re doing cozy games as well and more to come on that. We did a release with Nintendo on cozy games in Asia for ‘The Sims.’ I see ‘The Sims’ as a significant ecosystem, and a universe of multiple ‘Sims’ experiences that we have to build on.”
While some fans have expressed disappointment the game isn’t going to the traditional sequel game route with a “The Sims 5,” Miele maintains this is for the best for the larger community of Simmers.
“What I wouldn’t want to have happen is you to have to start from day zero and start from scratch and give up all of the things that you have created, give up all of the content that you’ve purchased over the years,” Miele said. “We put out over 85 content packs over the last 10 years on ‘The Sims 4,’ and so resetting that is not player friendly and not a good idea for our community.”
EA’s biggest transmedia project at the moment is the upcoming “The Sims” movie from Amazon MGM Studios and Margot Robbie’s LuckChap Entertainment, which was finally the “right creative partnership” for a film that Miele says the team has been talking about for “years and years and years.” (“The Sims” video game franchise celebrated its 25th anniversary this year.)
Miele says EA is currently considering significant opportunities for tie-ins with “The Sims” games upon the release of “The Sims” movie.
“Where we sit today, from a technology perspective, innovation perspective, we are in a moment where we can actually co-create content and be a multiplier for each other and have these great experiences for fans,” Miele said. “It’s going to be so full circle and so fulfilling to bring content in a linear way and an interactive way, simultaneously, and even have it adapt to fans and how things are going. When we have a couple of ideas about how we would go to market with a movie and a couple of different expressions, I just think the opportunity is so ripe.”
What are your thoughts on the news bit about The Sims Project Rene? We’re still itching for more gameplay previews and development sneak peeks to back up any suspicion.
