A new version of The Sims 4 Base Game is rumored to join the next generation Project Rene platform.
ARTICLE UPDATE #2: It appears we now know what new Simulation outside the Household we’re getting with The Sims 4 Remaster. Two seperate accounts that confirmed to know this information before it started leaking out stated that Open Neighborhoods are going to be a part of The Sims 4 Remaster. One user went private after confirming, the other left their reply public.
Yeah and while we are at it ANYWAY (because some people cannot keep their mouth shut and have the urge to leak every-thing) open neighborhoods too. YAAY

Loading in-between lots in The Sims 4 Base Game within a Neighborhood has been a controversial topic for the game ever since its E3 presentation in June 2014. With the recent rumors about The Sims 4 Remaster talking about the game finally getting its freedom when travelling between Lots within a Neighborhood.

ARTICLE UPDATE: Recent tweets have surfaced from a reliable source regarding what The Sims 4 Remaster could include. User @lunar_britney shared insight that Seasons from The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion are planned to be a part of the new Base Game experience. Also revealing that Memories / Milestones from The Sims 4 Growing Together are planned to be integrated within the Base Game remaster.

Yeah this was a rewrite of 4 but now they think they can pull off a sims 4 with some things upgraded and barely any other content attached besides seasons and memories just to sell it as a new game. Their deadline for it is insane in comparison to previous games.

I guess for new players sims 4 being free but then having any meaningful content behind paywalls is a tough pill to swallow, whereas the new one is meant to have core things like seasons/milestones in it + more of a focus on the simulation outside the household.
The user also mentions that The Sims 4 Remaster could have an additional focus to “simulation outside the household”, with no further elaboration as of now. I’ll make sure to update the article with new speculation / rumor information as they surface!
The Sims 4 is rumored to be liberated from an outdated game engine that the game’s been building upon for the last 11+ years. Talks about The Sims 4 Remastered (current official name is unknown) have been circulating insider Sims player circles for the last couple of days and weeks. I took it upon myself to discover more about what this rumor is all about, and what the future of The Sims 4 could look like with the new Base Game being worked on.

The Sims 4 Remastered to be platformed on Project Rene?
The recent Sims Project Rene playtest has facilitaded additional conversations over on Twitter about the rumors that have been building up behind the scenes about the future of The Sims 4. The playtest called “Life Together” is focusing solely on new minigames and ability to play The Sims Project Rene with other people online. The conversation on Twitter sparked rumors that The Sims Project Rene will be more than just a multiplayer Spin-Off, and will include other Sims games such as The Sims 4 to its roster.

This playtest is part of something (REALLY) bigger. Rene will be a solid, modular, and very important platform for future and current The Sims games (The Sims 4 including). There’s much more to see; there are several studios involved in this mission.

The Sims 4 Remastered Rumors
I had to know more about what this entails for The Sims 4, so I messaged them through Twitter to see what the insider information is all about. The user stated that they can’t reveal the original source of information so they don’t get in trouble, but they were able to elaborate on what the talks about The Sims 4 joining Project Rene mean. Which, by the looks of it, seems to be working in favor of The Sims 4 Remastered as a new Base Game platform.

I can tell you that Maxis is working on a separate base game that will replace The Sims 4. It’s not The Sims 5, but something like The Sims 4 HD.
From what I know, they’re going to improve the lighting and rework all the graphics. They’re using elements from Project Rene and the large-scale update for The Sims 4 that they originally wanted to release – but then realized it would be easier to just make a separate new base game.
According to the source, EA and Maxis are using the improved engine from The Sims Project rene to improve The Sims 4, and make it its own new Base Game version. The rumor mentions that there was a “large-scale update” planned for The Sims 4 that the team realized they could pack along the new version of The Sims 4 Base Game.
This wouldn’t be the first time that talks about The Sims 4 Remastered were hinted through Twitter. Sims fansite AlalaSims posted last month a series of tweets hinting about the improved graphics coming to The Sims 4.
The first Tweet says that an image they posted is “not about FreePlay” – showcasing the enhanced graphics added to The Sims FreePlay. The second tweet that was posted shortly after says “The more, the merrier?!” showing a Nightclub packed with Sims – possibly hinting about a feature in The Sims 4 Remastered allowing for a complex simulation that can sustain more Sims on a single lot.

At the end of October 2025 there was a new insider survey published through EA Playtesting asking players if they expect save files to work within a new version of a game launch. Not specifically mentioning The Sims 4 in this scenario, but still matching with the insider conversations that have been circling around.

In the beginning of September 2025 it was mentioned that The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Expansion will land as a “curtain call”. User @SimMattically pointed out that there won’t be another big release for a while, hinting that The Sims Team will take that time to “fix the game”. If the rumors about The Sims 4 Remastered are true, there’s going to be more than just fixing the game…

EA’s official statement from October
After the news of EA being bought out by controversial stakeholders broke online, The Sims Team posted a statement sharing their current goals, mission and values for The Sims. Stating that “Your passion and voices have shaped the exciting things we have coming in 2026 and beyond”.

The bug fixing update that promised 150+ fixes for the game seems to be just the start of “ongoing updates that address the things that matter most to [players]”. Is one of those updates an entirely different version of The Sims 4 Base Game? Considering that there won’t be a Sims 5, it makes some sense to put all that energy into improving the core engine of The Sims 4.
Time will tell if all these rumors about The Sims 4 Remastered are true or not. We encourage you to take these conversations with a pinch of salt until more gets revealed (or debunked). Until then, let us know what you think about this rumor and stay tuned to all the latest Sims 4 News right here on Sims Community!

I really wish this enable TS4 to be true open world. I’d definitely play this over TS3
Same here, this is my dream. I actually Love the Sims 4, and the graphics. I don’t mind playing it forever. If it’s done right!
The question is whether they’ll start from scratch, since it will be a completely different base game. What will happen to the current DLCs? Will they remain in the old base game, or will they be transferable to the new one? All of this raises questions. We would then have two versions: the current one and a new, remastered version, perhaps with different content. Would we be forced to buy remastered DLCs again, or even content exclusive to the new version of the base game? Perhaps they’ll discontinue the current version, which seems logical. So many unanswered questions.
If its ts4 hd then it likely means all ta4 co tent will still be in it. Like if you own every pack these get updatet to it like on ps5 it be a ps5 version of the game
The article has been updated, so it will be another base game with an open world and seasons and memories, therefore without all the DLC content we bought, but this new game will be paid.
insane, so basically improve things we’ve been asking for a while already and then put that upgrade behind a paywall to milk more DLCs for the upgraded version of the same game?
I wonder if those of us with the base game will get an HD version free as an update or have to buy, if we even will be able to buy it? They would then have to figure out a way to keep all the content without losing save files…
Knowing EA, you’ll have to buy it. They released a new version of The Sims 2 and didn’t give it to those who already owned it. Furthermore, if you read the update, not all the DLC will be transferable. It’s an open world with seasons and memories, so it’s something else entirely. I also think it won’t be possible, because not all the other worlds are open; there will be an incompatibility between the two versions.
They can’t even release new packs without breaking save files, I feel like an attempt to bring old files into what is essentially a new game with “some” of the existing architecture seems like a good way to break save files. I think they will try to sell it on gallery compatibility. But the history of my “world” and my saves is bigger than just pulling one family or sim into the gallery.
What if… we don’t want seasons? I have most of the DLC but have purposefully skipped seasons because I like my “endless summer” and no need to worry about if plants are in season. Many players would be unhappy if it was forced on them.
First of all, your opinion being downvoted just shows how petulent this community can be at times. It is also strong case AGAINST other players being involved in your game.
Second, I am afraid the answer is to just stick with the sims 4 as we currenty know it if you do prefer that endles summer feel.
I empathize with this a bit despite really enjoying seasons, because basegame has this eeirie yet comfortable feeling when the weather is always unchanging. While I dont miss it, I do understand the attraction.
I didn’t download it for years for the same reason. I ultimately changed my mind, but not everyone does or should be forced to change their game.
You can disable any extensions ingame already, I can disable Seasons right now.
Yeah, it’s The Sims Hub. Are you being deliberately obtuse here, Jovan? Can’t connect the dots well, can you?
Give me a break.
someome needs a chill pill eh
Canadians are the worst people I have ever met in my entire life. “Eh” my ass.
Here’s the best part: I’m not Canadian
Fun trolling, friend
Sybau. Waste of air.
sorry, but unless they’re completely rewriting the game, this decision is crazy to me. the game hits a memory cap and starts to eat itself? thats “save corruption” in it’s purest, most digestible, form. have they solved this issue in this proposed “hd remaster”? or is the solution just enforced household caps and new limitations? hd = bigger texure files = more memory faster, sending everyone barreling towards save corruption on a crazy new scale. and that doesnt even touch on the monetary side of things. a lot of worrying things to think about with this announcement imho.
I don’t know anything about game development but if what the article is saying is true, wouldn’t it just make more sense to make TS5? If they’re remastering the game wouldn’t they also have to remaster the DLC too? There are thousands of items across build/buy/CAS that I feel like it would be more cost efficient to start over. I personally wouldn’t make the transfer, but casual players would absolutely start over from scratch, especially if seasons, memories, and open neighborhoods are included in the base game.
get to work should be in the base game too, specially if its now open world, taking your sims to work seamlessly without a loading screen would make more people play with open careers
my two concerns are:
1. mod/cc compatability — i have a decent amount of custom content from creators who are no longer active but work fine in my game. i wouldn’t want to lose these by switching over to a new game.
2. expansion packs — would they just re-release the same expansion packs but remastered? elements of some are going to be included in the base game, but those are only elements and not all features of them. will people have to buy all of their expansion packs over again, or if you already own them will you also be able to use them in this game?
i really don’t think it’s a good idea to basically have the same game but with remastered graphics/functionality and more base game features and then sell it as a separate game where not everything is compatible from your old game that is basically the same.
i also really, really dislike the idea of the rene platform. people HATE origin, they hate having to have a game platform that they’ll never use for anything other than the sims being forced on them. it’s why i use sims through steam. much less annoying game platform and i actually use it for other games.
the more i think about everything about this direction the sims is headed the more pissed off i become.
To me, simply creating a remaster of this game that doesnt allow current DLC and CC to exist would be a pointles venture. At that point, why not just create an entirely new game and call it sims 5?
Therfore, it is my hope that they are calling this a remaster and not a bran new game gives me some semblance of hope for the continuity of not only the DLC already purchsed, but also for the CC being used in my game which I find to be so integral I wouldnt play the game without them.
is it free for those who spent over 1000 dollars on the sims 4 already? or…
Right? The reason we were given for not having a Sims 5 was that they didn’t want to force us to start over. This was in OUR best interest to continue Sims 4.
I’m here for it!
I don’t want to have to purchase all those packs again! We need better realistic hair styles ethnic styles for kids and babies and adults!
Think they should upgrade and update sims 4 graphics and everything else gradually within a year and fix all the existing problems. It’s not fair to keep buying games. I don’t mind buying n adding to what I have now.
Two concerns here
– what about existing DLC? I wouldn’t expect them to work with a sims 5. But since this will still be sims 4 with a few improvements I really hope my DLC will still work. I won’t be buying so much DLC all over again.
– can we avoid project Renee? A sims 4 remastered will have advantages but why integrate it with project Renee? I don’t want daily missions, I don’t want multiplayer, I don’t want monetisation like we constantly see in mobile games. In short I want a working sims PC game, not the project Renee mobile game that we have seen in recent leaks. I guess time will tell what ‘integrating in project Renee’ means.
I’m so confused, and not just by this news. I don’t understand how this article is structured — was I supposed to read the first sections last?
Like so many others I wonder about cost and DLCs.
The way I see it, it’s either a complete money grab milking people for money they’ve already spent, OR, and I’m being hesitantly optimistic here, this is a way to keep making new content without the game crashing.
We’ve all seen how unstable Sims 4 can be, and remastering it to a new platform might be a way to keep this game alive without needing to start from scratch with a sim 5 (aka. a cheaper option). Adding content from some of the DLCs into the remastered game can be a way to keep it more stable, and use up less space, which might allow the company to sell more DLC for longer. People who has spent a lot of money is likely to keep doing it with new DLC, and a remastered game could also appeal to new players (who has yet to buy all the DLC).
The article is quite confusing, as is the situation it is trying to detail. TS4 with open neighborhoods, maybe a neighborhood tool official from EA/Maxis would be a grand curtain call but creating another spin off to start the process over again is just going to piss EVERYONE off.
Honestly, they see that the Sims 4 game has problems and it’s much easier for them to fix the game and release it as new, and those of us who have invested $1,500-$2,000 should mind their own business. I’ve finally stopped buying packs because I’m tired of spending money for nothing.
Sounds like they are just trying to find a backdoor new base game shortcut that’s “not Sims 5”. And how about pack compatibility? More worried this will be a mess then excited.
Simmatically (who has contacts at EA) clarified on Twitter that there will be NO re-release at this stage and that the Sims team is instead focusing on a new, remastered Sims 4 game.
Furthermore, he specified that the team also doesn’t know what to do at this point regarding additional content that is 10 years old (all of our packs). For the moment, the vision of a new game is being considered.
I am the sims 4 biggest fan , but I am confused what makes this NOT the sims 5. And If its a separate base game and I have to buy new packs….hows it still sims 4? this is such a weird move. And I hope parts of this is false.
I don’t know ss much as I would love to have an updated version of The Sims 4….. The fact that I would have to go ahead and basically repurchase every single expansion pack and every other pack leaves a sour taste in my mouth. If they could do it to where if you own the original Sims 4, You could get the remastered version for free That would be a better thing to do for the community versus during the money grab attempt and screw people over. Take a page out of paradox and create a remaster and give it to the people who own it for free or separated like this, if you own the Sims 4 on consoles you get the remastered version and all of the packs that you own for free and if obviously you only done PC charge a separate price for them maybe you say 30 bucks and that gives you every single thing that you have. Or if they still want to make money just charge the Sims 4 remaster include all of the packs and everything for price of 50 bucks and make sure your saved files work and that would be a happy medium that I was be able to swallow.
A lot of people have wanted an engine update for a long time, so I’m not against this, as long as the current DLC stays compatible. I do, however, fear that this means they will transition to a subscription model rather than paying for each DLC, which I’m generally against, especially when it comes to games.
