RUMOR: The Sims 4’s Last Expansion Pack is Royalty Themed

The latest rumor piece mentions that we should expect only Sims 4 Updates and Kits after the EP21 release.

The talks about The Sims 4 coming to an end are solidifying with the latest rumor piece shared online. We’ve had some information about The Sims 4 eventually coming to an end with The Sims Team working on a new Base Game (currently titled Sims Project X internally) as an offline version to the Project Rene offering.

The latest information about The Sims 4’s roadmap mentions a Royalty themed Expansion Pack as the last big gameplay release for the series, new information about the World releasing with it and what to expect with The Sims 4 series after the last Expansion Pack drops. Let’s get right into it!

The Sims 4 Royalty is the Last Expansion Pack in The Series

In a response to the recent news about the EA Buyout being approved by shareholders, Sims insider @phii_oda revealed some information that’s been circling around within the insider’s community. Revealing that The Sims 4 Expansion Pack 21 is focused on a royalty theme with three different kingdom types (presumably neighborhoods), with one area which is based on Africa.

The insider suggests that there was an earlier plan to release a whole new African-themed world for free to The Sims 4 Base Game, however it “was canned for some reason”.

  • EP21 is focused on royalty with three kingdom types, only one of which is based on africa.
  • We were gonna get a whole african world for free but but it was canned for some reason.

Back in early October 2025, EA published a new official feedback session about Legacy Play, Heritage and Ancestors gameplay. Which sounds like something that could be tied into this rumored Royalty-themed Expansion Pack.

The leaker who correctly revealed the theme of The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits stated this about the potential release of an African world back in June 2025:

Maxis want to do more cultural worlds and have been trying for years to get a world based on Africa in the game, but higher ups at EA prefer culturally ambiguous worlds as they sell better. Maxis have come up with an idea to please both sides (but they wouldn’t tell me what that is).

In a post about the rumored Sims Project X, the alleged leaker mentioned that they’re only aware of one Expansion Pack for The Sims 4 being developed by Maxis Europe. Which could be the Royalty themed one.

The insider mentions that this Sims 4 Royalty Themed Expansion Pack is the last big gameplay release in the series. Revealing that we should only expect releases such as The Sims 4 Kits and Sims 4 Base Game Updates following the release of this rumored Expansion Pack 21.

There’s currently no information confirmed by The Sims Team acknowledging the rumored gameplay end of The Sims 4. So far, The Sims Team has only addressed that they will be continuing to work on The Sims 4’s stability and performance, with the last public report about fixing the game issues and working on corrupt Save Files.

The Sims 4 had more Expansion Packs teased in an official 2025 Survey that got published this February. Suggesting themes such as Cars, Community Careers, Suburban Living and more. The insider suggests that these ideas might be carried over and worked on the next Sims Base Game that isn’t The Sims 4. Potentially exposing that The Sims 4 will never get playable and functional cars in its almost 12 years of live service releases.

All the survey options that we’ve seen for TS4 might be reused for the new game. So no cars or anything else that we’ve seen except for that monarchy theme

EA / Maxis will move to The Sims Project X and Project Rene after EP21

If you were wondering about what’s to come next after The Sims 4 Base Game comes to an end, the Sims insiders are confident about a new Sims Base Game releasing some time after The Sims 4 Expansion Pack 21 drops.

What was initially rumored as a Sims 4 Remaster is now talked as a completely different offline Sims Base Game experience. The rumors suggest that this internally titled Project X Sims game will contain features such as Open Neighborhoods, Seasons and Memories / Milestones tied directly to the Base Game experience. With a whole new engine and updated graphics that will be supported for years to come as a separate offline Live Service experience.

the sims 4 remaster neighborhood open

The talks about The Sims Project X differ from the currently officially announced The Sims: Project Rene, which is a multiplayer platform for The Sims. The Sims Project Rene is expected to have features that will allow players to build Houses / Apartments together, participate in mini-games and create their own friend group to level up in different free-to-play experiences. This game is expected to be cross-platform and available for both Smartphone and Console / PC players sometime in the future.

Originally, the single player part of Rene would be included in the full game of  “Project Rene” but they’ve decided to separate different experiences into separate games.

This new game will have more flashy features like Open Neighbourhoods, busier Neighbourhoods (I heard up to 3x busier than Sims 4), better graphics (similar to what we saw of the early Rene content, not the mobile playtests we’ve seen).

The game however will be more simplistic than Sims 4 in other ways as the single player experience of Rene was never meant to compete with The Sims 4 and was more a simplified single player offering in a game focusing on multiplayer, and to keep the Sims 4 as the flagship single player game.

However, EA are keen to retire the Sims 4, simply because both QA and development costs have risen substantially in the last 24 months as the game has become complex to keep maintaining while developing new content.

As for The Sims Project X, it’s only rumored for now that it’ll be the next Base Game experience. With talks from several Sims insiders already confirming that it’ll replace the momentum of live service releases and big gameplay DLC that we had for years with The Sims 4 series.

The Sims Project X Packs and what this means for Sims 4 DLC

In a newly shared response by the sims insider, there’s some hope for players who have accumulated The Sims 4 DLC over the years. In an answer to a question if Packs will be released all over again for The Sims Project X, the leaker responded “sorta kinda”. But, there’s going to be some value and features for players who own The Sims 4 DLC. “Hold onto your Packs…”

Question: So this new base game is going to be Sims 4.5 and they’re going to release packs all over again for it? Sigh..

Answer: Sorta kinda, hold onto your packs, they’re not gonna be made fully obsolete but that’s info I wasn’t gonna talk about 🤫

The era of big shifts within The Sims Franchise is rumored to start in 2026 with The Sims 4 halting big production releases and only focusing on The Sims 4 Kits and Updates. With the next new Base Game platforms being The Sims Project X (rumored as offline experience) and The Sims Project Rene (multiplayer experience).

What are your thoughts about The Sims 4 potentially coming to an end, the last Expansion Pack theme and moving over to Project X and Project Rene? Our comments down below are open for fair and polite discussion!

thank god this nightmare of a generation will come to an end

Tommy

I’m not surprised. I’ve known for several weeks, thanks to a reliable leak, that the final expansion would focus on royalty and Africa, but I preferred to keep quiet. And yes, this is indeed the last expansion, which will be both strange and special, knowing that after this, there won’t be any more. There will then be a short period before the release of the new game.

As I’ve already said, I’d prefer they stop developing The Sims 4. This game is too old; it’s time to move on. It won’t be the same, but we’ve sensed that for several months now. The game engine is failing, there’s no longer a roadmap, and EA is undergoing a major transformation.

Each player will be free to choose whether to switch to the new game, but in any case, you can continue playing The Sims 4. Let’s be clear: there will be no more expansion packs, as was the case for The Sims 2 and 3. This is the end of the game. For someone like me who owns almost everything, with the exception of a few stuff packs, the game is practically complete. It includes toddlers, children’s content, celebrity careers, teen and young adult content, emotions, midlife crisis, the possibility of being fired, wedding planning, running your own business, hobbies with adventures, competitions, pets, horses, seasons, 26 worlds (including a new one coming soon), 3 vacation worlds, wills, death and mourning, funeral planning, cemeteries, a multitude of occult content, and renting properties and apartments. It also includes restaurants, shops, and much more. Only hotels and cars are missing, but the worlds aren’t really compatible. That’s more than enough for me. I don’t want 300 expansions and a game that will become unusable.

I’d rather have a completely new game; that’s the best solution. As I said, you keep all your Sims 4 content and you can continue playing even after the game is finished.

We’ll see what this new game has in store for us; it’s exciting to embark on something completely new after almost 12 years of The Sims 4, but it won’t be a new franchise. The Sims 4 is the last installment in the series. This new game will be different and will function differently, without the regular major expansions we’ve always known; it will be a different experience. Some will play it, others will stop with the end of The Sims 4—an era is ending.

Another opportunity arises, and that’s also the evolution of video games, the times, and the players. The Sims 4 is obsolete, so EA, being freer without shareholders, can be independent and go in a new direction. This reshuffles the deck regarding what was planned and is no longer relevant; they made the decision to change their plans and move on to something else.

george

What a bizarre post. “Ea will be free of shareholders.” My guy the game is going to be owned by the Saudis so it’s comical that you think the game will have more creative freedom. The next installment of the series once again looks like a half baked phone game and we’re not going to have half of sims 4’s features for the new game for years… if ever!

It’s so bizarre that people think a new game will work when they couldn’t even fix 4 and Renee is already starting on rocky foundations.

Sims 4 is a hot mess but at least I had some fun with hearing about the new features they’d work on. I liked that there was something to look forward to in the development cycle and I thought that Adventure Awaits was a good expansion.

Well, I guess the whiners have finally got what they wanted. They’ve been begging for sims 4 to end. Despite the fact that just because they want to whine doesn’t mean other people don’t enjoy it. Instead in their toxicity, they just whined and whined and whined.
And I bet once they get what they want, they’ll still be upset because they’ll be like, “oh that’s not how I meant it.”

it’s not our fault you started playing the sims on the 4th installment and you think you’re entitled to have everything you want, people who have been with this franchise for decades want it to move on to the next step, the sims 4 is LITERALLY THE WORST game among the 4 entries + they can’t even handle the DLCs already released, why do you want them to go even further with this mess? it’s been 12 years already… you can continue to play 4, just like many continued to play 3 and 2.

Bugfixes

Problem is that the next step is not the Sims 5, it’s a simplified single-player offering of a bigger game that was the original idea of Project Rene, focused on multiplayer. So of course I will continue to play the Sims 4, and I bet that you will too as soon as you realize the turd that is coming our way.

Edson

you haven’t even seen what they have to show, this game has been in development since 2019 and has features from expansion packs on the base game already + with a modern engine they’ll be able to do a lot more than what they can do today, the engine for The Sims 4 was never meant to last 12 years and was never meant to have over 100 DLCs, the problems this game has today are reflective of that.

Bugfixes

You’re right, I haven’t, but my expectations are very low, I mean, it’s the Sims Team we are talking about. And my idea of watered down version is somehow corroborated when the rumors keep the Sims 4 as the flagship single player game.

This: “The game however will be more simplistic than Sims 4 in other ways as the single player experience of Rene was never meant to compete with The Sims 4 and was more a simplified single player offering in a game focusing on multiplayer” doesn’t reassure me either.

Will see, as you said, Sims4 is not going away and Inzoi is getting there.

Edson

just the fact that they’ll move to Unreal Engine 5 will make the development of this new title way easier, even if released at a more simplistic state than 4 with its 12 years of development, they’ll be able to add stuff way easier, faster and with more depth because the engine will allow it, for example cars, in the sims 4 it makes no sense to have cars + some worlds wouldn’t support them, with this new title, you can be sure there’ll be not only open neighborhoods, but cars and motorcycles in the base game

Tommy

Absolutely, the possibilities will be so much greater and more powerful, it will change a lot of things.

Edson

the possibilities will be endless, UE5 will be very transformative for this franchise just look at how fortnite evolved through the years with this engine, it’ll be the first sims title made in an engine that most other developers use, solving issues will be easier, mod compatibility will be better, the graphics will be better and hopefully the gameplay will be better too, even if on release is not as strong as 4 with its 12 years of development. future looks promissing.

Wisconsin

Oh please. Inzoi is going nowhere..

Windrose

Agreed. Its not like enshittification is slowing down. It’s not like EA suddenly understands that they can make a lot of money without scrwing over its consumer base.
They are being sold to perpetrators of human rights violations that are considered war crimes. Consume this product as such going foward.

O The Sims 4 teve vários problemas ao longo do processo.

Sorry but you dont speak for all of us. I played since The Sims 1, and The Sims 4 is by far the best one.Yeah it is not perfect but Ive been playing on and off Sims 4 for years now and I am still not bored, though I dont own every single pack (not that I need to anyway). You people complain so much but you know what, go play other life sims and you will see there is no competition at all for a reason.

Edson

no its not, it’s the worst reviewed title of the franchise, the game with the least depth, the least gameplay, the least simulation, the worst animations, the worst worlds (even TS1 had more expansive worlds) it is literally a set dressing game with no real story progression, was never meant to be a main title, was never meant to last 12 years, even the developers are tired of it. y’all need to accept things have a start and an ending and THANK GOD you guys didn’t win this fight, this franchise is stagnant and needs a new title, whether y’all like it or not. stick to 4 and stop complaining a 12 year old BROKEN mess is finally ceasing development.

Friend, you won’t change anyone’s mind. It’s not a big deal. And I’m saying this as someone who mostly agrees with you.

Gorgoronisko

@Krysta Holy truth… Down with the whiners!!!

mitariki

Down with consumers with broken products across multiple platforms eh
You guys are funny. Got my popcorn out for all this

Gorgoronisko

Royalty and Africa, haha, good. “xD”
I’d prefer something like “Into the Future” at the end.
While I generally prefer fantasy to sci-fi, in The Sims I prefer the future over the past. If someone wants the Middle Ages, there’s already a game for that in the Sims world. 😛
It’s a shame it’s over… it had to come eventually, sooner or later, but there’s still some sadness about it.

Olivia-Kelly

actually kind of wanted bands…

saab

Yeah… my dream would have been bands in South Korea and hotels in North Africa 🙁

Tillinghast

Goodbye, hopes for zombies.

August

You misspell “separate” many times throughout the article. Would it kill you to run spell check?

Noname

Did you mean that “separate” is the correct spelling or the wrong one? I’ve seen many articles on this site use the incorrect – “seperate” – spelling

Fairy Enjoyer

I hope after they do more bug fixes they come back and continue updating S4 with additonal packs.

I feel like atm the potential pause in Development it due to the uncertainty of the Buyout.

But if Renee is the ONLY supported/new feature game, and it’s watered down from S4….which a lot of ppl feel like 4 was a water down of 2 and 3. PLUS the DLC doesn’t carry over then the Sims Franchise is dead.

Buyout or not, it won’t be profitable, no one is a fan of these new graphics and they won’t want to spend money on watered down gameplay.

Not to mention we JUST got Fairies and they’re gonna end it…..like what?!?!

Goody

Well, if this is true, then it breaks my heart. There are still packs and things I wanted for Sims 4. I really wanted Bands! (>.<) And there are still no spiral staircases. And I know people wanted a real hotels/vacation pack.

Evie

Personally disappointed that it won’t end with bands or hotels as those are actually requested items. I don’t know that royalty is up there.

Anon

I understand but this kinda sucks. Not all of us are lucky, unfortunately some of us cannot afford the higher end computer that will be needed to be able to run the new game.

Van

So if he’s a leaker, why can’t he talk about the dlcs in Project X? He has nothing to lose and shouldn’t tease us. So i guess he probably just don’t know.

Don Nano

I don’t think the end of TS4 is anywhere near. At the very least, the game will continue receiving content for the next couple of years. The buyout has already proven to be a profitable move, so it wouldn’t make sense for EA to just throw that investment away.

EA has already teased several interesting DLC concepts, such as cars, suburban life, and other features that players have been asking for. On top of that, there’s still a huge amount of content missing from previous games: zombies, mummies, bass and drums, car restoration, lawn mowing, lemonade stands, blacksmithing, sewing, glassblowing, axe throwing, pool tables, butter churning, mechanical bulls, and hotels, just to name a few and of couse, a LOT of clutter/utilities kits to improve and decore houses. They could even expand gameplay further by adding pre-teens, middle-aged adults life stages, a elementary school pack or one focused on elderly Sims.

Do people really think Project Rene will launch as soon as the rumored Royalty Expansion Pack comes out? The project doesn’t even have an official name yet, and some fans are already acting as if TS4 is at the end of its life cycle.

As I’ve said before, TS4 is very likely to stay alive with new DLCs for at least two more years.

Redouane

“but higher ups at EA prefer culturally ambiguous worlds as they sell better”

Said who? I largely prefer consistent worlds based on one culture like Mt Komorebi or Cuidad Enamorada than weird mismatched mixs.
As for EPs ending, that’s really sad if it means there wont be additional new worlds. Gameplay can be improved with mods, but the only way to obtain new worlds is through EPs. And there are so many more worlds we need….

Choko

I want bands before this game ends

honey

bruh project x/rene look SO bad. like a dumb mobile game

royalty sounds cool tho. sims medieval at home? i liked it when satch played sims medieval

ima make my medieval game GAME OF THRONES style i guess
