New The Sims Project Rene Playtest Blatantly Rips Off “Dress To Impress” From Roblox

Maxis team is taking direct inspiration from Roblox for their next Multiplayer Sims Spin-Off

We’re slowly coming to a realization on why The Sims Mobile is shutting down its doors. All of that pay to play energy is going straight into the next The Sims Project Rene project, with new playtest images that confirm a direct copy of a popular Roblox game.

The Sims Project Rene has been confirmed to be a standalone entry to The Sims series. Described as a “next gen platform” that will ecompass multiplayer features straight into the game’s DNA. Where you’ll be able to build houses and apartments with friends, participate in career challenges and now even participate in fashion challenges. That resemble the popular “Dress to Impress” online game created for Roblox.

New The Sims Project Rene Playtest

The Sims Project Rene is confirmed to be a cross-platform free video game, where players on both HD platforms (Computers and Consoles) along with Mobile devices (Smartphones and iPads) will be able to play the game. We’ve seen a few spin-off Playtests for The Sims Project Rene already, such as the “City Life Game with Friends”, in which players can play together, run a cafe and participate in quick Build Challenges.

Today, a new The Sims Project Rene playtest surfaced online titled “The Sims Labs: Life Together“. In this playtest entry we can see smartphone graphics that are a little bit more polished, changes to the User Interface as well as some new features. Including Sims riding bike scooters and new minigames. Read the full playtest features and see the new screens down below:

Official Screens

One of The Sims Project Rene playtest screens that really stood out in its audacity scale is the one showing off the new Fashion Passion minigame. Which in the universe of Roblox is called “Dress to Impress”. As seen in the screen below, players can throw on an outfit of their choice that best resembles the given theme. In 5 minutes or less they’re encouraged to bring the best look to the runway and give ratings.

Each runway look excluding your own can be rated with 5 hearts. The best looks are promised rewards such as in-game currency.

What I’ve just described above unfortunately already exists in Dress to Impress from Roblox. And it’s been heavily followed by the enjoyers of pop culture, fashion enthusiasts and content creators alike. The game even has celebrity collaborations with pop singers including Lady Gaga and Charli XCX where their exclusive outfits and appearances take the Dress to Impress game and stage.

Now, it looks like Maxis and EA are really getting excited to replicate this formula and make it their own with the “Fashion Passion” game for The Sims Project Rene. And possibly many others that might as well turn into blatant copies of games that are already out there on the market.

The Sims Project Rene is still under development by Maxis Studios. The playtest screens you see above are only a portion of what’s to come from this multiplayer entry to The Sims Series.

I can’t believe EA is going to such lengths to annihilate the value of The Sims IP. It’s upsetting as a player, but even from a business perspective it’s crazy that they’re turning such a distinct, fun and beloved game into a generic, AI-driven mobile brainrot.

Anita

It is all about the profit margin and cash flow. AI is a very cheap way to make apps and analyze other marketing algorithms. And those are made by other ai.

Edson

they’re doing everything but a good LIFE SIMULATION game

Raisin

Lmao this franchise is so dead rip

Darkening Demise

Roblox rips off everyone else, who cares. Also this ‘game’ they’re making needs to be canned in favor of The Sims 5 already. We need a evolution to the series and a true successor to The Sims 3. Since Paralives got delayed, again.

Sherri Small

Sims 3 is my all time favorite game. I think i put about 8000 hours into it. They need to build on the success of THAT game, not make a childish brain rot for 5 year old. I’m so sad to see this happen to the Sims franchise

Roxanne

Omg im genuinely shocked at what project rene actually is this is trash WHAT are they doing??? Why couldn’t they just give us sims 5 wtf is this ipad kid brainrot garbage?

IF this is supposed to be some kind of “The Urbz” sequel game then they’re already missing the point of it BY A LONG SHOT. The Urbz was a style-focused game with RnB elements an incredible influence by music. Most remember it for the artstyle. But also if it wasn’t an Urbz game… seeing this lite-mode Sims 4 2.0 phone game is incredibly jarring because these graphics are really same-y to The mobile game they just shut down… I have no hope for this game and considering 95% of the comments on X(Twitter)…. I doubt many people have any faith in them either….

Honestly I hope the Sims dies because clearly they don’t know what they’re doing. This is a waste.

Gorgoronisko

If you don’t like it, go climb a tree and straighten your bananas. :*

Wires

lol I’ll do both. I’ll straighten my bananas and wish for a quality game that rivals Sims 2

Lisa Flack

My only thought is that it looks very ugly. I have hope for paralives to play when the EA buyout is finished.

rav

gross looking mobile app aesthetics. If I open up the App Store and Project Rene looks like the past 10 years of mobile apps with annoying ads and game mechanics I can already tell you this is a waste of resources, time, money and a stain on the Sims franchise.

milf hunter

after, what, 10 years of mediocrity? this is what they have to show for it? lmao. thank god the sims is circling the drain. i’ve been a sims fan since i was 8 but i’m glad this franchise is on the down-and-out. if you’re still deluded that anything good will come from maxis or EA, i might suggest getting invested in other videogames.

There goes my hope for project Renee. As a sims player I am hoping for a new version of a sandbox game where I as a narrator can tell stories of sim families. What project Renee looks like is a sims online variant where you play one single character, your avatar and are forced to complete daily quests to unlock gameplay.

Ghg

I’ve played apps that had this same concept way before Roblox did dress to impress. You’re getting angry at the weirdest thing.

Good luck competing in that oversaturated market. I already have more than 5 games like it on my mobile devices and on an emulator as well. Some are already fully pc compatible, some can be played via browser or social media. My favorite fashion game at the minute is Shining Nikki. They also just released Infinity Nikki. Then there is Avakin Life, IMVU, RuPaul Drag Race, Covet (also an Electronic Arts acquisition), and various mall fashion shop games (Mall Girl, etc) with fashion contest features. Even full fledged Sims 4 cannot compete with Shining Nikki’s back accessories (cape, backpack, wings for nonoccults), separated jackets and coats, handheld props for photos like bouquets and clutches, separate brooch category, hair accessories, custom dyes, dance animations, and nail salon designs and competitions. Even Covet charges real money for most hair accessories but Nikki games do not.
