The rumors about The Sims’ brand new Base Game and era might be real!
The rumors of a last Sims 4 Expansion Pack releasing in 2026 before another rumored release of a brand new Base Game called The Sims Project X might be now more true than ever before.
We originally reported about insider information of a last Sims 4 Expansion Pack being royalty themed and it being the last big gameplay release for The Sims 4 Series until the release of a new Sims Base Game. Internally titled as The Sims Project X. Which is expected to be a single player version of a new Sims entry alongside The Sims Project Rene, which is a multiplayer Sims experience.
It wasn’t known to the community until now that a new EA Job listing surfaced on EA Maxis official careers page. Mentioning specifically the rumored “Project X” video game in the Maxis studio.
The name of “Project X” has been redacted throughout the entire job listing itself, but the full Project X job title name can still be visible in the job page url:

The new EA job listing, which mentions the AI Engineer job role, is looking for a person who’s going to feed the machine with their knowledge as part of a hybrid office role. Technologies such as Generative AI and diffusion models have also been mentioned in the listing. For which features is Gen AI going to be used in features of a new Sims Base Game besides what we were already shown during The Sims Hub presentation in 2024? It’s still not known.

2025 Resolutions?
It appears that the official release date of The Sims Project X isn’t that far off ahead. Considering that all things are subject to change, the team is “determined to have it out [The Sims Project X] by the end of the year”. Per the report of @Simmatically.

Are we going to be in the dark for those next 12 months of information and previews of a new Sims Base Game entry or is the team planning to get the news out rolling for 2026’s game lineup? We’re interested to see how this all pans out in the end officially!
EA responded to The Sims Project X and last Sims 4 Expansion Pack rumors as “a lot of misinformation going around”. But we’re starting to believe that they’re just waiting for the right opportunity and timing to get ready for public relations and formally announce the new Sims Base game and chapter.
Our question still remains though – do you believe these rumors and would you be willing to jump to a new Sims Base Game experience? What if it had Open Neighborhoods? Let us know in the unofficial community poll below!

i just hope they don’t rush the development of the game, and when it’s ready, i think it’ll be inteligent for them to call it The Sims 5 for people to not get confused as to why there’s two base games, if 4 is the last numbered release, casual people are gonna think it’s the last and most recent game in the franchise, if they call this new game Sims 5, people are automatically gonna look at it and think it’s the latest entry, if the rumours are true and we can transfer our DLCs from 4 to this new game, it would be an even better marketing tool for them to use and make Sims 4 players transfer their DLCs to 5.
Rockstar has GTA V Enhanced and GTA V Legacy. Nobody has problem with it
Rockstar is releasing a GTA 6
GTA VI exists. You’re wrong.
so let me get this straight:
– project rene is the shit mobile multiplayer game that’s been circulating, basically similar to the sims social?
– project x is supposedly a remaster of the sims 4 with improved graphics, like the prototype they showcased a few years ago?
at this point, they should just call it the sims 5 instead of remasters or remakes.
true, don’t know why they’re making it so confusing for all of us, i’m a hardcore gamer and i struggle to understand what is their vision for the future, now imagine a casual player trying to understand it, it doesn’t surprise me a lot of people are extremely confused about the direction of the franchise. i mean, numbered sequences are everywhere in the gaming landscape, it has always been a thing and a way for players to identify what games are more recent, the rumours are that this new game is simply gonna be called “the sims”, but i think it’s a mistake, The Sims (OG from 2000) already exists and has been re-released recently…
they should just call it
The Sims 5 (Project X)
The Sims Online (Project Rene)
two completely separate experiences for different tastes
for sake of sanity for all of us.
Online, yes. But for PC and extension for mobile
Project Rene is a content platform so this Project X is rolled into that with everything else. There was the fashion show minigame we saw from a play test not too long ago, think of that as “Project W”. Like the multiplayer end of this thing they are making is not going to be a separate game app. I also don’t think Project X is a remaster of Sims 4, I think it is just a very basic single player mode, which is why they aren’t calling it Sims 5.
Project x is a single player version of rene.
Borh mobile companions to sims 4.
No, not a remaster. It’s a completely new game, AKA The Sims 5
Can’t we just move to an entire new Sims 5 instead? The Sims 4 foundation is a mess, why would you wanna go furher on that same messy foundation? I just can’t understand that… also, using the same foundation of that game using for a ‘new’ or improved version better not mean you have to re-buy all kinds of DLC again cause that would be diabolical.
it’s a nightmare to understand the future of this franchise, so confusing… they want to complicate things so much… just call it Sims 5, enhance the gameplay, enhance the graphics, enhance the features and call it a day.
I think it is time for a new sims series we have done everything possible for sims 4 and many players are getting bored with the game time for a new generation of gaming
I don’t think we have everything possible for Sims 4, there are still highly requested packs/content that hasn’t been added, but I understand what you mean about moving forward.
No, it’s time to stop here, we’re not going to end up with 200 expansions, the game is already dying, we need to move on to a new game, this one will be 12 years old soon, and the engine is dead.
problem is: the engine from The Sims 4 is a very old engine, this game started development in 2008, 2 decades ago, it cannot handle anymore packs without significantly breaking and bugging, that’s why moving to a new engine like Unreal Engine 5 will solve most of the issues… what they need to do is make the transition be easy and fast, make us able to transfer our DLCs for example (i don’t care about saves tho)
I understand this but, some of us will be disappointed because we wanted highly requested content for Sims 4 that we never got. If it ends it will feel incomplete, and that breaks my heart. The game went on for so many years and we invested so much time and money into this game, and it feels incomplete.
However, I do understand what you guys mean and that the game is very old now.
I honestly wanted music bands for 10 years now and a real vacation pack with hotels, along with spiral stairs and car/garages and other things.
For me, I really care about my saves, but I hope you are right Damian about transferring our DLC, because that would make the transition easier like you said.
The Sims 2 doesn’t have a fame theme pack and still is the most loved game of The Sims franchise.
No way will I be moving to a new base game, if the rumors are true and it’s a dumbed down version of Sims 4, especially if I can’t use my previously purchased packs, specifically the occults with it.
Now if it was just buy Sims 4’s base game again, like a Enhanced BG and that just ported my stuff over, I’d gladly shell out some money for that.
This isn’t a new game that lets you transfer your current expansions; that was never the plan. This is a completely new game, built from the ground up. Any outdated content from your current game will be retained, but you won’t be able to play it in the new one. This isn’t a sequel to The Sims 4; you won’t be able to continue your current game in the new Project X. The new game will be simpler, with a new interface, and generally different. The new engine will offer new possibilities, including open-world neighborhoods with weather. You’ll still be able to play even if EA stops production of the game, even if you decide not to play Project X.
spill the tea, what more do you know? will we have more expansions in Project X?
The coding will probably be a mess. It wont be properly tested. Most of the packs will probably be expensive, base and add ons. And if the road keeps going the way it is, its set up will be even worse than it was. EA still hasnt gotten over their money greed, so I highly doubt this new game is going to be worth it.
This confirms what I was saying: one last expansion, then the announcement of the end of The Sims 4 and the release of the new game at the end of 2026. It’s about time. It will be a completely new game, not a sequel to The Sims 4; it will therefore be different. After more than 100 expansions, it’s finally time to move on. For the current game, even if its production stops, you will be able to continue playing it, even after its end, just like with The Sims 2 and The Sims 3. It’s simply the end of one chapter, and the launch of a different game, which will no longer resemble what we know. That era is over; it’s the evolution of the video game world and also of modernity. The Sims 4 is obsolete, so EA is taking a new direction with modern resources. It’s up to each player to decide what they will do with the new game. I’m not worried about the Sims 4 community; it’s been dead for several months now with everything that’s happened. You could say that nothing will ever be the same again, but everything comes to an end.
what i don’t understand is: why don’t they just call this Project X game Sims 5? it’s so confusing… if its the successor to 4, why are they refusing to completely embrace what’s next in a way that is more understandable for both casual and hardcore audiences?
I assume they still want to keep making money from all the DLC they created for Sims 4, for all those who are starting in the future with it. If they would announce this other game as Sims 5, less people would invest into Sims 4 packs anymore, as it is the “not current” game then. This way they keep making money with 2 games, as long as they don’t announce it dead and keep releasing some kits and base game updates here and there.
It’s important to remember that “Project X” at EA is a code name, not the final game title, just like Olympus was the code name for the prototype that later became The Sims 4.
Calling the game “The Sims 5” might suggest it’s a continuation of The Sims 4, with a base game and major expansions, but that won’t be the case. EA has moved beyond that model; this game will be different.
but how? i hear people saying they’ll move beyond current model but never explain how the new model will function, will it be similar to The Sims 3 Store and they’ll focus more on cosmetic items and very small packs? if so… then what about the big expansions? will they just be free updates for everyone? like the hability of having a band a lot of people ask for, for example… will they give bands for free and then sell for example packs for rock star clothing, pop star clothing, hairstyles, different instruments etc? i don’t understand the vision honestly and the more leakers and Maxis themselfs try to explain, the more it gets confusing.
EA will make the announcements in due course; we just need to forget about the major expansions we’ve always known. I completely understand that it’s frustrating for you not to understand how this game, simpler than a major franchise, is being marketed, but you have to be patient and wait for EA’s official announcement.
ok, i mean, it’s just confusing cause every leak says one thing… the leak from ATRL says expansions will transfer to Project X, the leak from ex firemonkeys employee says some aspects of 4 will transfer… just trying to understan what is what
Expansions will not be included; some elements may be, but their selection is yet to be determined.
The developers will also take survey responses into account, allowing them to study requests regarding content, including cars and other suggested additions, that could be integrated into this new game.
When I said :
Expansions will not be include, except for the seasons
i understood, this Project X will be its own package with a brand new open world game + seasons with a lot of next gen features, what i struggle to understand is how they’ll monetize the game if not through expansions, also, i’ve heard this Project X game will not be free to play like Sims 4, so it indicates a switch in the model of monetization, that’s exactly why i’m struggling to understand what this model will be, like… free updates, cosmetic item storefront inside the game, smaller packs for clothing, activities etc…
Currently in The Sims 4, you have $40 EPs, this is what you will no longer have, there are still several ways to add paid content, it just won’t be in $40 EPs.
ok, so we will start from scratch? not bad for me since i’ve been playing since Sims 2 and been starting over everytime, but then… if there’s no longer going to be expansion packs, are we stuck with a game that only has seasons in it and that’s it? or they’ll update the game regularly at no additional cost? similar to GAAs games like Helldivers 2 that you buy once and receive free updates and then there’s an internal storefront for cosmetics and that’s how they make money? cause like… i can’t see how they’ll monetize the game if there’s no longer expansion packs. how will they make money with this game?
Currently in The Sims 4, you have $40 EPs, this is what you will no longer have, there are still several ways to add paid content, it just won’t be in $40 EPs.
so making it simple to understand: they’ll take what used to be in a $40 DLC, split into smaller packs and sell each one for $5, $10, $15, $20 depending on the category for the content, and probably in an internal storefront similar to Fortnite, where you buy V-Bucks (SimPoints/SimBucks) and you purchase these smaller pieces of content there directly inside the game instantly, that’s the vision i can see them heading when it comes to monetization, a more modernized approach, Expansions no longer existing, just content split into various sets, exactly like in The Sims 3 Store where they would sell you venues, neighborhoods, clothing sets, hairstyle sets, Build/Buy sets, and when it comes to major content they’ll probably update the game for free so that everyone will have the broadest shared systems and they can further monetize on these systems, for example, pets in the base game, but infinite monetization for cosmetic sets for pets, every month they can release a set for clothing, locations, activities, toys and etc for pets. i can se them doing that, what do you think?
What do you mean by completely different?Without giving away too much information, since you probably have an NDA.
Just forget about the base game + $40 expansions model. The AAA model is over; EA won’t release this game using that model, so it will be different.
how different? how will they monetize the game?
The idea of what’s “technically” a new game that is more polished, has systems not possible with The Sims 4, and is built for many more possibilities in the future while also letting you carry over your homes and characters sounds like a very good idea.
At the same time, I don’t know that it could ever feel new enough to not just feel like The Sims 4… I love The Sims 4, but some things have to come to an end, and I think a completely fresh start would be more appealing. So I’m not sure I’d move on instead of just seeing it as a good point to “call it a day.”
They are just hiring? So there’s no chance to be 2026 the last year of TS4 if EA is listing jobs for a AAA game?
There’s A LOT of features missing in TS4: bands, cars and other stuff that would require at least 2 years of content between EP, GP, SP and Kits.
The offer is for project x, it won’t be a AAA game, it’s over, EA won’t make any more.
how? Project Rene and Project X are in development since 2019, it’s 6 years of development, how can that not be considered AAA?
We’re talking about a base game which usually takes 5 years to produce, what you don’t understand is that the Project X game, which went into production much later than Rene, will be much simpler and less ambitious in the long term than The Sims 4, there won’t be any very large expansions for example, it’s really much simpler than all that.
i understand it’ll be simpler, all i’m questioning is how they’ll monetize the game, if there’s no large expansions, it indicates they’ll probably sell smaller packs like mentioned by lindsay pearson back in 2023 with mini packs based on weather activities for example, so it’ll have basic weather in the base game and packs for winter activities, summer activities etc
Your reasoning is partially correct, but only partially; there are several ways to add paid content and gameplay other than through $40 expansions.
Are they going to add world building tools?
It’s a mobile game that’s getting a higher resolution PC version and a single player mode. We don’t know if the single player mode applies to mobile but if it does then it’s going to be very basic.
That odaphii guy is going too get problems if this is worng. And Him and is fellows, like lunar are not a good team. Do you people know that he is bipolar, and odaphii is not talking about it out. (Yes they have that kinda friendship. ) there is no wrong whit being it, just how they co-op together, and are friends from this or because this.
I will just wait for the official EA announcement. All we actually know so far is that they hire some more people for Project X. If that game is later called Sims 4 Remaster, Sims 5 or whatever is something we don’t even know that. Maybe it will be Sims 5, maybe not. Everything is based on leaks and they even don’t answer everything. It’s time to wait and see.
It won’t be The Sims 5, but Project X is a working title. This name will help differentiate the new game from the first four installments.
The Sims 5, bitches! Yay.
i just hope they go all in and don’t rush this Project X, this is a crucial moment for this franchise, a period of transition that is very important, they need to nail it, i really hope they announce it in 2026, but give it an extra year and release it at the end of 2027 so that they have at least 2 more years to make it right, they can continue to release kits for Sims 4 and make money meanwhile. just don’t like the idea of a rushed product and it gives me Project Olympus PTSD
Yeah, I get what you mean
Call me crazy, but I would rather stay with zombie Sims 4 than to discover how EA can make Sims 5 even worse.
On the other side, no more patches will mean mod makers can finally start creating some deeper stuff without worry of EA messing it up.
I’m not sure I wanna move games I’ve spent years on my suns 4 and own most of the expansions
Didn’t they say they would be running the games side by side so surely they wouldn’t just dump Sims 4 right ?
