EA Might Take A Break From Sims 4 Expansion Packs After Adventure Awaits

sims 4 expansion packs break

It Has Been Hinted That The Studio Will Focus On Fixing The Sims 4.

With the announcement of The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits, many are asking the age-old question: What’s next for Sims 4 Expansion Packs? Rumours suggest that this could be the last Expansion Pack release for a while, with the team behind Adventure Awaits shifting focus to a long-overdue Base Game update, including quality of life improvements, system requirement changes, and fixing corruption. Adding weight to this theory, known community member Anadius recently pointed out that the pack version numbers hint that there will be five DLC releases to come before the next Expansion Pack. If the recent roadmap leak is to be believed, these releases will come in the form of Kits.

The Sims 4 Expansion Pack Number Hints

In a recent post on Twitter, Anadius highlighted that there will be 5 DLC releases between EP20 (Adventure Awaits) and EP21, according to version numbers (1.102 and 1.108, respectively). That gap between version numbers lines up neatly with the leaked roadmap, which lists the Autumn Apparel Kit in October, two Creator Kits slated for November, and two more Kits coming in December. Anadius notes that the order is subject to change and should be taken as an estimate.

Is The Base Game Getting Overhauled?

In a recent tweet, user SimMattically described Adventure Awaits as “a bit of a curtain call”, suggesting we may not see another major release for a while. When another user (@_trasherFP) replied, hoping that Maxis would use this downtime to “fix the game”, Simattically responded with a winking emoji, a hint that behind-the-scenes efforts might indeed be shifting towards long-requested and long-overdue Base Game updates.

This theory lines up with reports that Maxis has assembled a dedicated team to address bugs, performance issues, and quality-of-life updates. After the Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack was discovered to be exacerbating already existing corruption issues, many players have been vocal about wanting the game to be “fixed” and modernised, rather than more content layered onto an already fragile foundation. If true, this break from Expansion Pack releases could give The Sims 4 the refresh many feel it desperately needs.

What Is Planned For The Base Game?

The August 19th Patch for The Sims 4 quietly introduced a “Memory Boost Mode”. A new executable file called ‘TS4_x64_fpb’ was added to the The Sims 4 directory, and could be launched by typing ‘-fpb’ in the launch options via the EA App or Steam. While initially players didn’t understand exactly what this mode does, a comment by Thurask on our article revealed that the new version reduces lag, frees up memory, and helps prevent crashes. Another comment pointed out that when running in memory boost mode, other lots that would appear as their Maxis defaults are now appearing as they should if they have been replaced by custom builds.

the sims 4 neighboring issues

With the addition of a 64-bit version of The Sims 4 in 2015, and updates to indoor lighting and effects, perhaps more performance improvements are on their way. The DirectX 11 update in 2024 increased the overall experience for many players on better systems, with improved rendering capabilities. Perhaps focus is shifting internally to address player concerns about the fragility of the Base Game and the longevity of the game if Expansion Packs continue to be released.

If this is true then nothing of value will be lost. Nothing would be better than them taking time to fix the game and improve things.

I don’t see anything abnormal, this roadmap goes until December 2025. Knowing that an extension always comes out around February/March, logically the next one will be in 2026, we will therefore have to wait for the January 2026 roadmap to see if this is confirmed, one thing is sure, the game cannot remain in this state, it is only getting worse and it is becoming almost unbearable for many, and the complaints are at their maximum at the moment, I have never read so many comments from players asking for a break, some have also clearly said that they will not buy this extension until the game has a massive repair.

It would be nice if this meant they were going to actually work on fixing the game. I’m going to be a pessimist and say the wording of ‘big release’ means we’ll see a glut of kits, maybe some stuff packs, and the occasional lacklustre patch that fixes a small problem. Then if they surprise me I get to be glad for being wrong.

I’m doubtful that they’ll do much, if I’m being honest. I think they’ve heard the rumbling from the fanbase, so they need a cooling-off period to at least give the appearance that they’re going to fix things. Too bad this isn’t actually a “curtain call” for Sims 4 because they show has been over for quite some time.

Both very exciting AND very risky. Could see the game being both fixed and “destroyed” at the same time, so better get our backups in time! Also hope that it’s something major, but that it won’t complicate things too much for mod creators.

They’re getting tons of backlash on FB and Instagram and deleting comments so maybe they’re finally listening?

Stop buying Sims 4 packs. It will break the game.

i doubt that they will take time to fix sims. thats not what EA wants. EA wants more money faster.
Why does Simmatically know about them fixing the game first before expanding the game?

Sims 4 is dead. If we continue to buy more packs they will keep producing more updates and patch the game until its unplayble. It will only get worse
Its better to not buy more stuff so the Sims-team wont invest into sims 4 anymore. We have a complete sims experience already.
Even insiders and interns are boycotting the game already.

I love Sims 4 so much I dont want them to ruin it more and more.
Spread the word to every other Simmer that loves Sims: Stop buying Packs <3

Never had an issue on my computer then again have a $4,000 MSI helps with great memory and GForce helps with the graphics. You dont have to stop buying the game its the mods and cc scripts that mess up the game. You eben see players saying ” I took the mods and ccs off and it works” so this has nothing to do with not buying the game. Nobody understands that concept. It’s the mods that break the game.

More like they fix the game, console players that can’t use mods have save corruption, but “mods break the game”.

Players who don’t play with mods have complained about bugs and save corruptions, it’s not just a cc issue.

it needs more than fixing, some of the systems in the game are extremely outdated, it NEEDS several overhauls in order to continue to be a viable life simulator for the next 10 years (cause we won’t have a sims 5), specially when you compare it to life simulators that are coming out nowadays like Paralives and inZOI, so yeah, they need to focus on the core foundation of the sims 4 and it needs more than just bug fixes, i do sincerely hope they focus 100% on modernizing the game and giving it more depth.

although the new pack looks pretty cool i agree. we need more gameplay just for inside of households rather than making all the excitement about traveling outside of it.

I agree with most. I’m so frustrated because I feel like we took so many steps back, with the loading screens and nit having an open world and cars. The excuse was when sims 4 came out some things needed to be sacrificed fir the better graphics. Well it’s been well long enough, and I would love if they just opened the worlds up, and give us cars. It was a great way to establish motivation for my sim to have more. Sure a big house is nice, but when they walk everywhere it’s so unrealistic and frustrating. Just wanted to get that out

Stop getting my hopes up. I would buy For Rent if I knew it wasn’t super buggy. Most days I just play The Sims 3 and weep that Island Paradise is so broken. But The Sims 3 is the height of the series and I have very little hope of them ever making anything that fun again.

Y’all are dreaming. EA is a business, it will be a short break. Just watch. I’m not mad at EA for releasing DLCs. Too many of y’all are getting your panties in a bunch when that’s what businesses are supposed to be doing. However EA, and their way to make money is just odd. They don’t have to release 3 EPs a year. 2 or 1 a year would be enough. Enough to at least let those EP breathe, so we can take time to know and enjoy them (but then again, sometimes those EPs are shallow and modder are filling the gaps of what missing). And how will they make money? I’m sure they will have to release kits or even stuff packs (I wouldn’t mind it) the outrage for the amount they released early this year was ridiculous btw but then again, those kits are what you can get for free. I don’t understand why they haven’t done a kit set to sell worlds or template worlds with builds to edit the world to our liking yet. That would be worth buying as a kit. And this is how they should run the sims 4 from now on:

– 1 yearly EP
– Bring back Game packs
– A Stuff packs
– then a series of kits

Let me translate that one: they released 3 expansion packs in the same year, and as the money rolls in, they make the next few expansion packs.

Also, I can’t stand that so-called influencer. Cryptic messaging is for lazy weak cowards with an agenda. I hate weak men.
