So is there any updated graphics or something like that or did they just made the game compatible for win 10/11?

They might’ve honestly just made it compatible for windows since it’s just a re-release and not a remaster or anything of the sort. Hopefully, I’m wrong though! It’s hard to say until we get an official announcement

Okay yeah, but not everyone is skilled enough to make that happen and when I had someone who gave me the sims 1 compatible for windows 10, it was constantly bugging out, so this legit way of getting it might prevent that!

Im talking about the sims 1, I do have the sims 2 digital edition which they gave out briefly back in 2014 if you could prove you had the disk versions, that one does run with EA app indeed but it does make my screen significantly smaller/square but runs, decently, not optimal tho lol

Saying “you already can” is so stupid and vapid. The sims 2 as is is not optimized at all, i don’t care what idiotic influencer is playing it. I would welcome a rerelease as it will not have all of the various problems i experienced last time i played sims 2. Anyhow I love re-releases of old games. The “new” Crash Bandicoot and Spyro are terrific examples.

We literally have fixes already made. Ea probably won’t even fix most issues. We as a community already have a version that includes fixes to make the game run on windows 8-11.

Exactly, James Turner just did Sims 1 and the screen was so tiny he could barely see it. Yes you can still play it, but it’s meant for the old school computers, not flat screens.

It’s not pirating, at least not right now. Sims 1 & 2 are abandonware and can be legally downloaded for free. That changes when the re-release come out.

The starter pack, with lazy duchess fixes literally runs better than the EA version with graphics rules fixes.

I don’t even know why anyone is happy about this. All this could possibly mean is the end of opents2 project, EA are not likely to allow it to continue after they take the game out of abandonment.

@Tatiana I don’t understand why you got so many downvotes? The people are literally ridiculous. Have any of you people even played a lot in Downtown Sims 2? I have a freaking 3070ti and the Dehja Vu museum runs like utter garbage and almost every community lot in vacation is slower than a snail. Get real people. This needed a re-release.

Ana

the problem is that its got a re-release but EA is not going to FIX IT and they’re charging for it — its one thing to charge and it actually works but its no point in saying re-released for windows 10/11 and then not optimize to actually work on said system — sims 2 is nightmare to get working so to have people spend money on it and then still not work, its a money grab — it will only be worth it if its truly been optimized and fixed for newer systems

yes completely legally, and it just requires a resolution change, everything else is normal for both 1 and 2. I play Sims 1 on a Mac, did not require anything from my side.

Abandonware IS LEGAL to download. And the starter pack with lazy duchess launcher/fixes fixed the majority of issues.

Marty

Wrong. Abandonware is not a legal statute. It was made up by people to try to justify their piracy of old software that is no longer being sold.

Unless copyright has officially expired and the software has entered the public domain, or the publisher/current rights holder has given explicit permission (which does happen in some cases), the unofficial redistribution of the software is in fact piracy and not legal.

Wait… so they aren’t going to be free re-releases like when they gave away the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection a while back? Tbh not sure how I feel about the possibility of having to pay for these old games that are A) just re-releases, B) have been given away for free once before (ts2) and C) have free starter packs that already makes them compatible with windows 10/11. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see for an official announcement.

My Sims 1 installation crashes semi-frequently for no clear reason. Also, if you’re playing the way Maxis originally released the games (as opposed to using modifications to get it to work, modifications some places used to ban discussion of (back when they were just used to play the game without discs) because they considered them a legal grey area), The Sims will outright not run on Windows 10 and 11 because they do not include any route for its DRM to function.

They work on 10/11 with a little elbow grease, but I wouldn’t call them “compatible” specifically because you have to apply elbow grease at all.

Entirely possible Sims 1 will not have anything but the DRM thing fixed, though–then we are back to EA being greedy.

I did own all the sims 2 games and in my opinion would it be only fair if they would give them for free just like they did years ago (and I did miss that opportunity), same for the sims 1 but I only had that 1 for the ps2 (I was very young didn’t know what to do, so many sims did die).
But I would love to see a remaster of cast away

I still have TS1 running fine from my Complete Collection CDs and The Ultimate Collection also running fine on my PC. I can’t see myself paying again for games I already bought without any kind of upgrade, and these look like the bare minimum has been done to make them more “easily” compatible (even though they work fine already anyway lol).
That being said, if they make these compatible for Mac, I’d consider buying. My Mac is my main computer now, and I’d love to be able to play TS1 or the full TS2 (I have Super Collection but it’s missing 2 expansions and most stuff packs) on here.

No one here should have ever expected these re-releases were going to be free. We’re talking about EA here; you should know better by now.

Yes; you can play the original two games currently, but only after jumping through some technical hoops to make them work on modern PCs. I know; I’ve done it for both games more than once. If you figured out easier ways to make it work, that’s awesome for you.

It may not be the most difficult process in the world, but not everyone has the tech knowledge or the time to screw around with it. If people want to purchase these games, they should be able to do so without getting judgments and snarky comments. Let people enjoy things.

And no, that’s not shilling for EA or supporting a greedy company; that’s common bloody sense. And downvoting me for what I’m saying doesn’t make any of it less true.

I understand people pay for remasters/re-releases, but it’s clear that nostalgia is the price point for both games. That being said, an entire collection of content included in both games could easily excuse EA for getting people to pay $30-40 for each. Remember when the Sims 1 came out, it was listed at $49.99 and subsequent packs at $24.99! That’s $225 for the entirety of the Sims 1 Complete Collection. However, it won’t be nearly as much due to its technological downgrade. Most Sims 1 Complete Collection bundles online are usually between $20-40, so it seems likely that EA won’t be shy to go on the higher price point just because. It’s a difficult trade for lovers of the game to pay more for something they either already have or want to reminisce about. One thing is for certain: if successful, this is the biggest P.R. campaign that EA/Maxis has ever done to bring back its fanbase to their game. Will it work? I guess we’ll all see.
