So is there any updated graphics or something like that or did they just made the game compatible for win 10/11?

    1. Ashley

      Reply to Van

They might’ve honestly just made it compatible for windows since it’s just a re-release and not a remaster or anything of the sort. Hopefully, I’m wrong though! It’s hard to say until we get an official announcement

its already compatible with windows 11, I have both games. I also have them on a Mac without an intel processor, works normally.

Okay yeah, but not everyone is skilled enough to make that happen and when I had someone who gave me the sims 1 compatible for windows 10, it was constantly bugging out, so this legit way of getting it might prevent that!

I didn’t have to have anyone do anything I just installed the sims 2 to my computer and played it.

  2. lorozona

I’m so exited!! Finally being able to play the old sims’ again will be AMAZING

      Reply to lorozona

      You already can though…

      1. Tatiana

        Reply to Meowingcookie

Saying “you already can” is so stupid and vapid. The sims 2 as is is not optimized at all, i don’t care what idiotic influencer is playing it. I would welcome a rerelease as it will not have all of the various problems i experienced last time i played sims 2. Anyhow I love re-releases of old games. The “new” Crash Bandicoot and Spyro are terrific examples.

We literally have fixes already made. Ea probably won’t even fix most issues. We as a community already have a version that includes fixes to make the game run on windows 8-11.

          1. Anabea

            Reply to Meowingcookie

Where could I find this version to run on windows 11?

there are a tons of videos on yt about optimization, look it up

Download and save it now just in case EA try to stop the creator.

          Reply to Tatiana

Exactly, James Turner just did Sims 1 and the screen was so tiny he could barely see it. Yes you can still play it, but it’s meant for the old school computers, not flat screens.

        3. grgre

          Reply to Tatiana

so mean and for what? ts2 community is better that the ts4’s. there are so many programms and mods to make it more optimized for high-end computers. you’re not educated and dedicated enough to make claims like that, chill

        4. lorozona

          Reply to Tatiana

thats exactly my opinion! im not a fan of downloading pirated stuff and couldnt get the game running properly anyway. Besides that, it’ll just be nice to have propper launcher and the whole feeling

          1. Bagel

            Reply to lorozona

It’s not pirating, at least not right now. Sims 1 & 2 are abandonware and can be legally downloaded for free. That changes when the re-release come out.

        5. Eloka477

          Reply to Tatiana

The starter pack, with lazy duchess fixes literally runs better than the EA version with graphics rules fixes.

I don’t even know why anyone is happy about this. All this could possibly mean is the end of opents2 project, EA are not likely to allow it to continue after they take the game out of abandonment.

@Tatiana I don’t understand why you got so many downvotes? The people are literally ridiculous. Have any of you people even played a lot in Downtown Sims 2? I have a freaking 3070ti and the Dehja Vu museum runs like utter garbage and almost every community lot in vacation is slower than a snail. Get real people. This needed a re-release.

      2. BlessedSimmer

        Reply to Meowingcookie

Not legally, and not optimized. This is blessing. You can get it to run with tlc.Now we don’t need that.

        1. ffff

          Reply to BlessedSimmer

yes completely legally, and it just requires a resolution change, everything else is normal for both 1 and 2. I play Sims 1 on a Mac, did not require anything from my side.

        2. Eloka477

          Reply to BlessedSimmer

Abandonware IS LEGAL to download. And the starter pack with lazy duchess launcher/fixes fixed the majority of issues.

          1. Marty

            Reply to Eloka477

Wrong. Abandonware is not a legal statute. It was made up by people to try to justify their piracy of old software that is no longer being sold.

Unless copyright has officially expired and the software has entered the public domain, or the publisher/current rights holder has given explicit permission (which does happen in some cases), the unofficial redistribution of the software is in fact piracy and not legal.

            1. Lux

              Reply to Marty

Why do you even care about pirating EA? Lol

  4. Ashley

Wait… so they aren’t going to be free re-releases like when they gave away the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection a while back? Tbh not sure how I feel about the possibility of having to pay for these old games that are A) just re-releases, B) have been given away for free once before (ts2) and C) have free starter packs that already makes them compatible with windows 10/11. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see for an official announcement.

    1. Rob1992

      Reply to Ashley

It’s probably just going to be the inclusion of unaccredited mods without any real effort from their part. Like they’ll just take all of lazydutchess’ work and act like they did it

    2. Jayce they/faun

      Reply to Ashley

They only gave away the sims 2 ultimate collection because they didn’t want to renew the licenses. We have to wait and see how what it’ll be like. Kinda hope they do more minor changes to it since the cover art for sims 2 got changes

    3. smh

      Reply to Ashley

EA and free… Ha-ha-ha. Right. Not happening.

  5. duh

unless it’s a remaster, this will only be a thing for lazy people who can’t bother to google their own solutions, because everyone’s been playing these games for years, including plenty of streamers/youtubers

    1. Duh 2.0

It’s crazy right? It’s almost like some people just want to be able to download a game and it work without having to do extra steps…

  6. Nanominyo

So they may be charging people for… Doing what the community has been doing for years?

Both sims 1 & 2 is already compatible to windows 10/11. There’s plenty tutorials on how to update it to fit.

Well EA being greedy is nothing new.

    1. BlessedSimmer

      Reply to Nanominyo

Sort of,you have to use tlc to make it work.

My Sims 1 installation crashes semi-frequently for no clear reason. Also, if you’re playing the way Maxis originally released the games (as opposed to using modifications to get it to work, modifications some places used to ban discussion of (back when they were just used to play the game without discs) because they considered them a legal grey area), The Sims will outright not run on Windows 10 and 11 because they do not include any route for its DRM to function.

They work on 10/11 with a little elbow grease, but I wouldn’t call them “compatible” specifically because you have to apply elbow grease at all.

Entirely possible Sims 1 will not have anything but the DRM thing fixed, though–then we are back to EA being greedy.

  7. Meowingcookie

If they have the audacity to charge for ts2 after giving it away for free for multiple years…

  8. Sara Nuyts

i’m very happy, the old sims games, i can play them again, so happy

  9. Mauricio

I have The Sims 2 Complete Collection on my EA App account. I wonder if it makes sense to buy this version? I can play it smoothly on Windows 11. I’ve patched it with Graphic Rules Maker.

Do you think they will update the „ultimate collection“ that came with the sims 4 release aswell? I am totally down to get ts1 😀

There was no ultimate collection that came with ts4?

      1. Nina

Yes, for a short time after the Release of The Sims 4, they gave us The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection for free in Origin, I still have it =)

        1. Meowingcookie

          Reply to Nina

That’s literally just sims 2 with all the expansions included. It was out before ts4 was even released. It was released as ts2 became end of life and the website shut down. Not because of ts4

        2. Mauricio

    1. ffff

      Reply to Gabriel

both games work on a Mac, I play sims 1 on my M3 MacBook already. Sims 2 I prefer the App Store version.

  19. Nate

I figured they wouldn’t go through the trouble to make them Mac compatible, but it still super bums me out regardless.

  20. Wolf

I just want Sims 3 to be optimized and updated to 64-bit. I am not interested in the first 2 games anymore, although I do have Sims 2 Ultimate.

  21. Emma

i’ve struggled to get the original sims operating through any work arounds on my mac for years. i’m so bummed to hear that there’s no news of these games rereleasing for mac users. is there no possibility these games will be provided through the EA app and be multi-platform??

  22. Lulu

Remember when they said they were going to take the past back I’m thinking that with these rereleases they plan on making other dlc for old sims… let’s wait & see

  23. Lunore

I did own all the sims 2 games and in my opinion would it be only fair if they would give them for free just like they did years ago (and I did miss that opportunity), same for the sims 1 but I only had that 1 for the ps2 (I was very young didn’t know what to do, so many sims did die).
But I would love to see a remaster of cast away

  24. Finnfinn

EA will be like: *slaps compatibility patches* tis will be $80 ur welcome guys i luv u

  25. noname

I still have TS1 running fine from my Complete Collection CDs and The Ultimate Collection also running fine on my PC. I can’t see myself paying again for games I already bought without any kind of upgrade, and these look like the bare minimum has been done to make them more “easily” compatible (even though they work fine already anyway lol).
That being said, if they make these compatible for Mac, I’d consider buying. My Mac is my main computer now, and I’d love to be able to play TS1 or the full TS2 (I have Super Collection but it’s missing 2 expansions and most stuff packs) on here.

  26. Marcus

Where would we go to download them ?

  27. Jessica

this is stupid! there’re going to charge us for old games that we already have on a damn disc!! I’m not even getting into this greedy mess.

  28. Shatterhand2049

No one here should have ever expected these re-releases were going to be free. We’re talking about EA here; you should know better by now.

Yes; you can play the original two games currently, but only after jumping through some technical hoops to make them work on modern PCs. I know; I’ve done it for both games more than once. If you figured out easier ways to make it work, that’s awesome for you.

It may not be the most difficult process in the world, but not everyone has the tech knowledge or the time to screw around with it. If people want to purchase these games, they should be able to do so without getting judgments and snarky comments. Let people enjoy things.

And no, that’s not shilling for EA or supporting a greedy company; that’s common bloody sense. And downvoting me for what I’m saying doesn’t make any of it less true.

  29. Max

I understand people pay for remasters/re-releases, but it’s clear that nostalgia is the price point for both games. That being said, an entire collection of content included in both games could easily excuse EA for getting people to pay $30-40 for each. Remember when the Sims 1 came out, it was listed at $49.99 and subsequent packs at $24.99! That’s $225 for the entirety of the Sims 1 Complete Collection. However, it won’t be nearly as much due to its technological downgrade. Most Sims 1 Complete Collection bundles online are usually between $20-40, so it seems likely that EA won’t be shy to go on the higher price point just because. It’s a difficult trade for lovers of the game to pay more for something they either already have or want to reminisce about. One thing is for certain: if successful, this is the biggest P.R. campaign that EA/Maxis has ever done to bring back its fanbase to their game. Will it work? I guess we’ll all see.

soooo is this on steam or EA’s horrible launcher only?

  31. Ángel

What platform it will be available on PC?

  32. Eloka477

I hope this doesn’t mean the end of the opents2 project, and of the fix pack.

Typical of EA to only do a rerelease after leaving it abandonware for years and not a remaster. Honestly, I’d rather stick with the starter pack, they had better not touch it.

  33. Floor

I have all the Sims2 expansion packs on cd, does this mean you have to pay again for the same game?

  34. Stephanie Imarhia

I can’t wait for the re-release of The Sims 1 and 2 I wish that they can re-release 3 for free.

  35. Zena

Will it release on the EA launcher ?

  36. Karla

Does anyone know if the DLC and expansion packs will be part of a big sims 1/2 rerelease bundle or will they be releasing it all separately and we’ll have to purchase/re-purchase everything?

  37. Spilner14

i know it says for windows 10/11 but do you guys think there will be a workaround for linux operating systems like steam OS (for steamdeck)?

    1. Tremortusk

You can already install windows .exes on steam deck through other programs available on there, like lutris. It’s laughably easy.

  38. Ant23

I will check it as soon got ready to test it for 7 days. Test it doesn’t violate EAGAMES EULA. Check it out!

  39. Hannah Hays

Hold up, will I be able to play on my MACBOOK AIR?!! Please I was so looking forward to playing the OG sims again

  40. Familythatsims

I wonder with the new release of sims 2 if you will be able to reset the neighborhood by deleting the save file like how you can in sims 4. Sims to you would have to go into your program files in your computer and have to complete multiple steps.

  41. Carlyle

    Any word on prices?

  42. Tracey

I have Sims2 on my pc but I want to buy both so they are all on my account (EA App)that way if my eldest son wants to play his favourite Sims 1, I can just play the Sims 2 I have on my pc.

  43. RUBIANA

BOOM DIA, SOU NOVA NA AREA DO THE SIMS, EM QUAL SITE ESTARA DISPONIVEL PARA BAIXAR? SITE DA ELETRONIC ARTS É ISSO?

  44. Mikaela

I hope its not gonna cost too much i would love play the sims 2 was my childhood

  45. Stephanie

FINALLY I can play with a purpose. Freeplay on TS4 gets boring sometimes

  46. Domi

As long as they don’t add anything unfavorable and the price isn’t astronomical, I’m for it (in fact, these games could have been released a long time ago and officially supported on new systems).

  47. Michelle

do we know if it will only be released on the EA app? I’ve got all my sims 4 stuff on steam. I’d understand it if they only put it on EA app, but I’d love for it to be on steam too
