The Sims Team Needs Your Input on The Sims 4 Autonomy & Sim Behavior Improvements

A new feedback session for existing Sims 4 features has been opened by the EA Community Manager!

It’s time for another EA Feedback session, this time all about The Sims 4 autonomy & sim behavior. Just two weeks ago we’ve had an open discussion feedback started by EA on The Sims 4 Infants and Toddlers, and today there’s a brand new one directed more towards general adult Sim behavior!

EA Community Manager “Mindy” shared a new discussion over on the official Sims Discord and Reddit to gather feedback on out of place autonomous behaviors and preferred animations.

CONVERSATION 2

Hi! I’m back to gather more feedback from you all, this time to inform future updates and improvements to Sim behavior and autonomy.

Before you jump in, check out the Laundry List to see what’s already on the roadmap to be fixed and no need to share anything about infant/toddler autonomy suggestions, as we got so much great input on that last time!

Here’s what we’d love to hear from you:

  1. What Sim or game behavior pulls you out of the experience, storytelling, or roleplaying the most?
  2. What Sim behavior is the most frustrating to you?
  3. What tasks do you want your Sims to complete that they fail at most often (because of bugs or autonomy)?
  4. Is there any silly or wacky autonomy behavior that doesn’t make sense, but you’d hate to see fixed because you enjoy it? (We want to make sure we aren’t removing quirks the community loves.)
  5. Is there an interaction that isn’t currently autonomous that you’d like to see become autonomous? If so, in what situations would you want it to happen?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Changes to Sim autonomy are already taking place with the next Sims 4 Update set for March 17th. Including resolution of excessive flirting, sims socializing with strangers and using certain objects obsessively. Keep in mind these notes when sending your feedback to The Sims Team!

“Sim autonomy” is one of our key focus areas based on community feedback,  and this update delivers on 3 of our top autonomy issues : Sims socializing with strangers, excessive flirting, and Sims using certain objects obsessively.

[EA Forums] We’ve implemented a notable change to how Sims determine who they speak with on a lot. Now, Sims will generally prefer speaking with familiar Sims they already have a good rapport with, and Sims are less likely to engage with strangers spontaneously.

[EA Forums] We’ve addressed the issue where Sims were excessively flirting with each other.

[EA Forums] We’ve heard your feedback and wanted to address Sims using Computers and Phones too often. We’ve added a few new preferences to the Base Game including: Likes Phones, Likes Computers, Dislikes Phones, and Dislikes Computers. If you don’t want your Sims to autonomously use these objects, please give them the “Dislikes Phones” or “Dislikes Computers” Preferences. If you want them to be obsessed… you know what to do.

[EA Forums] If a Sim autonomously uses the Computer, they will receive a cooldown on wanting to do this autonomously again for half of a Sim day. This cooldown does not exist for non-active Household Sims, for Sims who are Geeks, Sims who Like Computers, or when it is a preferred interaction for Getaways, Clubs, Small Businesses, or Dynasties. Sims who Dislike Computers (a new Preference we added) will never use them autonomously anymore.

What do you plan to send to The Sims Team for General Autonomy & Sim Behavior improvements for The Sims 4? Let us know in the comments down below and stay tuned for the latest Sims 4 News and feedback sessions!

Before we fix autonomy can we fix obedience? There is no ‘tasks I want my Sims to complete that they fail at most often’ because it is literally all of them. I cannot go two minute without several dropped actions. I’ve stopped playing this game entirely because it straight up doesn’t work.

For me, it’s the autonomous lighting of fireplaces, especially for non-household members like the ranch hand! Leave it alloooooooone!!!!

I get really frustrated with Sim interactions with toddler and infant items like high chairs and them not wanting to take the child out when they’re finished eating or the child is tired. I’d also love if we could set preference for meals, like for babies to try new food or give favorite food. For toddlers, to give quick meal (essentially kid-friendly foods), or grab a serving from a family meal.

I’d love it if Sims autonomy veered not only to pursuing their needs and preferences, but also working towards their aspirations, something it seems I have to actively pursue for them to achieve in most cases.

I’d also love if I could set their schedules and habits, such as having a daily habit of completing homework on weeknights, or brushing their teeth first thing in the morning. Setting schedules for what days they will practice their instruments or work out. Then of course, these can deviate as needed, just like you can take a vacation or sick day from work or school or have a holiday.

Maybe we can make some more animation mods and making new packs to have more sims outfits

Please prioritise player instructions. If I want my sim to ignore a toddler it should etc. Also all Sims seem to love cross stitch for some reason. Can it be more of a personality sensitive activity?

Britt

I hate when I try to make my sims take care of their toddlers or infants and they refuse to or they will pick them up and put them outside.

1. My sims flirting even though I turned off the attraction settings and stuff. Lighting the fireplace constantly (household and non household members),

2. When I tell them to go do something. Cook, clean, work, school, etc. Takes them half hour or longer before they actually move to do that thing. Or they move right away then cancel my thing to light the fireplace, play the computer.

3. Laundry is really difficult. The washers and dryers constantly malfunction and break, even though I upgraded them completely.

4. N/A

5. If I don’t click on the options for work, it should just be automatic go to work. Same with college. Sometimes I get to busy with another Sim to focus on the other going to work/school options. I would also like to be able to set a schedule. Like homework at this time, bedtime at this time. Something to be able to control a bit better. Because sims drop the task I choose so much or it takes such a long time for the sims to move. I can click cook dinner at 6 and they won’t be done until 10pm.

Sim often freeze while doing anything you want them to do

They also need more skills and personality traits
and fix the crashes in the game it’s hard to play when it crashes constantly

Im with the others about schedules. Its done in getaways. It would be awesome to be able to do the same at home. Also would like to see them actively want to do the things that carry out their aspirations and bucket lists. It would be nice if they did not obsess over the clay so much. That’s the big one mine often cancel my commands to go do. (I can’t even give it to my kids, the parents take it away). As always, the strength of the franchise to my eyes has always been options. The more each game is unique the better. Always make big changes optional. I wish that there was a middle ground between likes and dislikes. IE if I don’t want my Sim to obsess over computers nor be unhappy to study on one, be able to leave it neutral. That range on more things could individualize the game a lot. Hope my 2 cents helps.
