The game, which allows a player to customize his or her character’s destiny, has evolved into a cultural phenomenon extending beyond merely ‘play’; Sociologists have written papers on the Sims and it has become fodder for writers, journalists and bloggers to explore cultural trends.
In this newest iteration of the franchise, Sims 4 packs in new features, including the ability to allow characters to embody a wider range of emotional states beyond just sad or happy. The emotion component now affects not only how your Sim character executes tasks, but also how you as a player manage him or her.
Spanish Twitter account for The Sims posted a render of a Grim Reaper and some other gang sitting on the couch. Simmers are saying that this might be a reference to The Game of Thrones, a popular TV Series.
We’ll let you know once this render is available in HQ!
Update: DOTSim provided the new render in higher quality and with transparent background!

Out of all the presentations I attended at E3 2014, The Sims 4‘s was my favorite. While I don’t necessarily mean it’s the best game I saw at the show, the game has so much entertainment value that it made for a great demonstration. The presentation perfectly encapsulated all that The Sims 4stands for: fun simulation with more options than you can imagine.
The Sims 4‘s core focus is on the sims that inhabit its virtual world. As such, the first thing shown off was Create A Sim, the tool that allows you to make characters that populate your game world. This part of the game is demonstrative of how much work has gone into making The Sims 4 the best simulation experience of the franchise. It has options that extend from editing of the face, to being able to tug and pull on certain parts of the body to sculpt them. As a result, the presenters were able to show us themselves recreated in the game world which almost perfectly emulated their real selves. Their virtual characters were shockingly similar, and I’d go as far as to say it’s the most elaborate character creation tool I’ve ever seen.

The Sims DE Magazine wrote a small article about genetics in The Sims 4. Thanks Crinrict for providing the translation of this article!
Since the Sims characters is now driven by DNA, CAS now has a new feature (our favorite): The family genetics. When creating a new Sim you can do that like you always did and start at the beginning or use the new functionality and randomize children of two existing Sims – finally hair color isn’t the only thing that kids inherit from their parents. They actually resemble them. In the same way you can create parents and siblings. Your family actually looks like certain physical features are passed on.
Speaking with EA’s Charlie Sinhaseni, we asked him what some of the consequences would be from a non-fully open world in The Sims 4 (thanks for the question Max, iLoveBacons).
“I don’t know if you look at it as consequences,” he said. “I think we look at it as a lot of benefits — density of interactions, density of environments, density of sims.
“The player is going to win in every respect here because there’s more to do and more to see and more going on around you at all times. And on top of that, some of the load times have been improved. We chopped down on a lot of them,” he said. “I think that’s beneficial to the player in every respect.”
The more frequent, but shortened load times have allowed Maxis to go for density with the game’s environments. “
In Magnolia Blossom Park, it’s a very large open area, but with lots of sims,” Sinhaseni pointed out. “When we got to the gym, what did you see? Lots of sims already in there working out. I think it’s one of those things that when you see it you understand that we’ve done a lot of work and tuning that these areas feel right and alive.”
Mushilda created 2 excellent illustrations on how The Sims 4 Worlds will function!
Please note that pictures below are just an illustration of Willow Creek to show how Worlds and Neighborhoods function, meaning that the map of Willow Creek probably doesn’t look like it’s shown below.
Important:
Each World (in this situation, Wilow Creek) has up to 5 neighborhoods. Each neighborhood can contain up to 5 lots (both Community and Residental).
Public space of each neighborhood can contain various objects that are either decorative or interactive.
There is loading between: Worlds, Neighborhoods and Lots. There can only be 1 active lot + public space of a single neighborhood.

Angellulu: When you say we have a loading screen between lots, does it mean that when I would travel my Sim from home to lot that is included in the same neighborhood, he/she still has to go through a loading screen? What about the lively streets, can we be part of it, or is it out of reach? I’d like my Sims to walk on street outside as well, even if it is out of bounds from other lots. Will this happen? I wouldn’t want to be confined in a single lot, watching every other Sim have fun outdoors…
SimGuruGraham: There is never a load screen when you walk off a lot into those public spaces in the neighborhood that you’re in. By all means, have your Sim run out there and have fun! Every Sim you see at any time when you’re playing can be reached and interacted with without any loading whatsoever.
You will need to load when you walk onto a different lot in the same neighborhood than the one that is currently your active lot. When you arrive there, that lot will become the active/loaded lot with Sims on it doing stuff, and all of the Sims who were in those public spaces in the neighborhood will still be there doing the same thing they were doing before you switched lots. Because time continues to pass while you’re off in different neighborhoods, and Sims continue to simulate even when they aren’t loaded, when you travel to a completely different neighborhood and then return to the first neighborhood, the Sims who were there previously will have changed.

Let me help explain aging options a bit more clearly.
First, you can globally set the lifespans of Sims to be short, normal, or long. This applies to all Sims, no matter if you’ve played them or not.
Second, you can choose if unplayed Sims (any Sim that you’ve never taken control over) automatically ages or not.
Third, for Sim families you have played as (for rotational gameplay), you can enable or disable automatic aging and it will apply that setting to all of those families simultaneously. You do also have a third choice for played households to set it so that only the family you’re currently playing automatically ages, and all your other played households will pause their aging until you’re currently playing them again.
Further, in Live Mode, you can use a birthday cake to age up not only your own Sims, but you can use it to age up other unplayed Sims without having to play them, at the time of your choosing.
Someday I would love to expand the aging options so that they can be set per household, but we’re already shipping robust options in the base game that give you a variety of approaches to how you play.

With the release of new issue of The Sims DE Magazine, Sims Creations posted screens of The Sims 4 article that includes various concept arts of rooms and object designs.

Two producers created themselves for the demo: one was a women and the other a man. Magnolia Blossom Park was an area first demoed and had the male producer in a foul mood. Moods, or emotional states, are going to give players advantages and disadvantages. Angry, as in real life, will make it harder for a Sim to socialize. An advantage to anger lets them work out more effectively. When a Sim is super pissed, they can do “peeved push ups” and “sit ups of fury”
The female producer’s Sim was energized and had a “bro” personality trait. If she interact with someone who also has a “bro” personality, they will get along very easily.
A party in the park demoed how Sims play around with each other. There was fishing by a pond, BBQs, children in playgrounds and chess players.
Hi everyone, I’m glad you’re enjoying the interview and the new details!
I wanted to take a minute to further clarify something that it appears is still causing some debate.
The Sims 4 doesn’t have “districts”. We have a world (Willow Creek), and within that world is five distinct neighborhoods that all have a different feel to them… think of Los Angeles for example, the neighborhood of Bel Air is uniquely different than Hollywood, but they’re both part of LA. Within each of those neighborhoods are up to five lots, which can be a residential or a community venue. Via the use of Manage Worlds (which replaces Edit Town), you can freely change any of the lots in any neighborhood to be either residential or community.
(Semi-confusing side note…) We do in fact actually have a sixth neighborhood in Willow Creek, we just don’t refer to it as a “neighborhood” when we’re talking about the game because it has a single large lot in it. You’re free to visit or modify it as you would any other neighborhood, but it was built specifically to be a gorgeous park for Sims to enjoy in the great outdoors.
The unique difference in The Sims 4 is that there is a lot of game play in what we’re calling the public spaces of these neighborhoods. Public spaces are the areas that are not part of a lot, and now in The Sims 4 we can place all of our interactive objects out into these public spaces. When Sims are on their lot, they will still consider autonomously using objects that are out in these public spaces – they are no longer confined to their artificial intelligence only thinking about what is on their currently active lot. Consequently, more Sims will want to be out in these public spaces; it makes the neighborhoods come alive with interesting Sims to watch or go out and interact with. It’s a fantastic change that helps our Sims feel more intelligent and lessens the impact of a lot edge as an artificial boundary.
The end result of all of this is that we can pack way more game play into these public spaces than you would have seen in the worlds of The Sims 3. They have lots of interactive elements, they’re beautifully decorated and landscaped, and they’re always lively with your neighbors and other various Sims going about their daily lives. It gives us the added benefit of not always needing a lot to fill a particular Sim’s desire… for example, some of the neighborhoods have typical park objects, children’s playground equipment, and bathrooms out in these public spaces for all Sims to enjoy. We do still use community venue lots for certain things (like the Gym for example), because Build Mode tools have to be used on a lot.
Now, when you’re traveling between a world, a neighborhood, or a lot, you will incur a short load. There is only one lot that’s “active” at any single time, meaning if you want to use another lot you will travel there. This allows us to have 20 Sims actively running their full simulation at any time in the neighborhood – that area includes both the public space and your active/loaded lot. When you travel between lots in the same neighborhood, everything that was occurring in those public spaces persists… after the load all of the same Sims will still be where they were, doing what they were doing before you started loading. It’s all feels quite natural when moving around the neighborhood rather than being a disruptive experience.
Counting the number of lots in a single world is a rather arbitrary number in The Sims 4 though, as you can freely travel, move, work, visit, etc, any world, neighborhood, or lot while still retaining the information about who your Sim is, their belongings, their relationships, their family, etc.
I hope that helps everyone better understand how the game functions!catloverplayer wrote: It worries me that sims you download join your household. He said you can kick them out but I’m wondering if this means we don’t have a library anymore so we can transfer our sims to any future worlds.
Hi Cat;
When he said that about downloading the sim and it went into your household that you were playing, I immediately thought about whether or not we could download while in the management section of the game? Like that way you can get what you want and put them where you want and not have to deal with having the new sim in your household if that’s not what you want. I hope that’s how it will work.
This is an excellent point – thanks for mentioning it as I forgot to bring that up during the interview; I was specifically thinking about what you can do in Live Mode. Yes, you can access the Gallery while in Manage Worlds mode and bring in Sims/Households there so that you can directly add them to a new home, merge them with an existing household, or even add them as a townie who doesn’t live in the world.
There is also a personal “My Library” where you can store Sims, homes, and individual rooms to be accessed while offline, or simply to keep them to yourself if you don’t want to upload them to the Gallery.
