SimGuruDrake talks Weekly Livestreams + More

Many of us didn’t expect that The Sims 4 News Drought would continue after The Sims Team’s ‘Upcoming Content Announcement‘, but it happened.

SimGuruDrake clarified their 15-second Teaser Trailer and also talked about Livestreams, which should be coming soon™.

I’ve seen some questions about a few things in here so I hope I can clarify some of it:

Livestreams, where did they go? Well I am happy you asked! They will be returning soon (I know I’ve been saying that for a while but things do take time.) I wanted to expand them to be more than just streams tied to pack releases, I want to provide you with a way to engage with different members of the team to chat with you and play The Sims and I’m excited for the new streams (I’m shooting for weekly ones –so get ready for that!)

Information on future content I’m going to sound like a broken record here as I’ve talked about this several times before but we cannot provide more information about future content until we are ready to (yes that includes free content.) I often see people confusing what “future content” means so I’d like to clarify: If it is not currently in the game it is considered future and cannot be talked about until we are able.

What about the monthly content? While some have interpreted this as relating only to paid content this actually related to all content – free and paid – we provide monthly updates that include bug fixes, free content (NPCs, items, etc), and have also been doing fun monthly challenges.

All we got was that 15 second video, I want more information than that I’ve gone over this one a couple times now in different threads. This teaser video is not meant to be a big break down to give you all the information you will ever want about a pack way before it’s released. This teaser is meant to fill three things: Tell you what type of pack it is, what the theme of the pack is, and around when you will learn more information about it. It also provides a hint at free content coming within that season/quarter but it will not show you every little thing that will be in the packs. It will not replace our normal announce schedule for each type of content, its to show you a look ahead so you know whether or not you are interested in learning more about the content coming up. If not, then no worries, you know that there will be another video at the start of the next season/quarter that may show content that is of interest to you.

The Sims FreePlay: Day Spa Community Update Walkthrough

The Sims FreePlay team has introduced a new Community Event with their latest Day Spa Update that ends on May 14th.

The main goal of this Update is to unlock a series of objects by collecting different gems which will lead to unlocking the main prize – the Spa Resort House Template!

Event Items

Day Spa Update comes with 5 Event Items that’ll help you progress through your quest:

Coin Flower Patch
Quartz Deposit
Garnet Deposit
Moonstone Deposit
Jade Deposit

As you can see in the image below, the Coin Flower Patch is free while the Gem Deposits cost Simoleons and have a limit when it comes to how many deposits can you place in your Town.

The Quest

Unlike with most of the previous Game Updates, Day Spa doesn’t come with an ordinary quest. You’ll get a small Tutorial Quest that’ll help you set up the Coin Flower Patch and the Quartz Deposit. After that, you’re on your own to collect Gems and unlock new Objects!

Daily Goals

Daily Goals track the progress you’ve made in the last 24h and reset each day. With each goal completed, you’ll unlock new prizes!

The Goals are:

Use a Spin Plant (+1 Constructor Point)
Win 10 Coins from a Coin Flower Patch (+400 Quartz)
Complete All Daily Goals (+25 Constructor Points)
Free Quartz (doesn’t require you to do anything) (+100 Quartz)
Free Constructor Coins (doesn’t require you to do anything) (+1 Constructor Point)
Collect any Gem (+1 Constructor Point)
Collect 1,000 Gems (+1,000 Constructor Points)
Claim or Buy a Prize (+5 Constructor Points)
- When you unlock an object when collecting Gems, unlock/buy that object in the Personal Progress section.

Personal Progress

Personal Progress is where you keep track of your unlocked Items and your Gem Inventory. Each Item needs a certain amount of Gems in your inventory, so make sure you put your Sims to work!

Global Community Progress

The Sims FreePlay is tracking progress of how active our Sims are. The more they’re active in collecting Gems, the more we’re contributing to unlocking new Items.

This is a feature that functions on a global scale, so make sure you keep your Sims busy with collecting Gems!

Coin Flower Patch

The Coin Flower Patch is a free object that can be purchased from the Event Items section. It functions similarly to the Simoleon Sprout, except the Coin Flower Patch converts Quartz to Constructor Points that are needed to unlock some certain Items.

There are 2 types of Coin Flower Patches:

Spin Plant, which requires 400 Quartz and promises a decent amount of Constructor Points per spin.
Mega Spin Plant, which requires 20 Social Points and promises more Constructor Points per spin.

Quartz Deposit

Quartz Deposit (and any other Deposit) can be bought in the Event Items section. The more deposits you own the more they cost. You can only own 4 Quartz Deposits.

When starting your Event, the first Quartz Deposit is free.

The Sims FreePlay Designer talks working on the game

There are so many different opportunities to work in gaming all over the world.

Meet Brian Parker, Designer for The Sims FreePlay.

When you love something, you find a way to make time for it. For Brian Parker, that something has always been video games.

Before joining the industry, the designer for The Sims FreePlay used to stay up late making Flash games for fun.

“I’ve always loved puzzles, and viewed the mix of design and scripting as a new challenge,” he says. “It was pure joy to see all the pieces come together.”

Parker’s first role in gaming included a lot of questions and plenty of learning, but over time he began to lead teams tasked with focusing on specific features.

“The game industry is very fluid,” says Parker. “On some projects you may lead, then on others you may support.”

Today on The Sims FreePlay, Parker mostly handles the design of specific features which fit into a larger vision for the game. Parker has been working on the title since November 2014.

“As part of the design team, we all wear many hats,” he says. “The team is lucky to have an active community that are both passionate and creative – this motivates and challenges us to continue to deliver the experiences that our players will enjoy.”

For the team’s latest content update, players can create a new beautiful sanctuary, complete with everything a Sim needs to soothe their senses. Sims can now get massages and manicures, meditate by the water, sit in the sauna, or hang out by the hot springs.

The team worked for approximately four months on the Day Spa update. “Our goal was to deliver an experience that players will enjoy by themselves, but also as a community as they strive to win new prizes together,” he says.

Parker’s team at the Firemonkeys studio in Australia includes people from all over the world.

“The team is perhaps the most diverse that I have worked with so far,” says Parker. There are a handful of Americans and also professionals from Asia, Europe, South America, India, Canada and more.

To make sure that players were happy with the content in the Day Spa community update, the global team focused on feedback. “The relationship between video game developers and their players has evolved tremendously over the last decade,” says Parker.

For a mobile title that has been alive for four years, the challenge for the team is to keep evolving the experience in The Sims FreePlay.

“We are constantly thinking about the player and how we can improve their experience, and this is always a welcomed challenge,” says Parker. “We want every update to be better than the last!”

Looks like The Sims 4’s Upcoming Content video has more teasers than they meet the eye!

Our friends at DOTsim have pointed out a significant hint from the video. During the presentation of The Sims 4 Restaurants Game Pack, there is a female Sim sitting with a Tragic Clown that’s rocking a male-only hairstyle.

This isn’t the first teaser for Unisex CAS assets though. Just yesterday, SimGuruSarah posted (and then quickly deleted) a screenshot of a male Sim with a female hairstyle and a female-only necklace.

Thanks to @tazreentasnim for the screencap!

When asked how is it possible for male and female sims to wear each other’s assets, she responded with: We can modify existing hairs to work on different ages/genders.We did it in TS3 too.

Sorry SimGuruSarah, but whatever appeared on that Teaser Video can now be counted as a possible feature!

SimGuruTrev tried to tell us that there’s more to the Teaser Video than just a Tragic Clown and GP/SP features, and it looks like he was talking about the Unisex CAS feature.

SimGuruDrake confirmed days ago that the Teaser Video contains hints for patches that will release between April-June. We already got Tragic Clowns that they teased, and now it’s time to upgrade our CAS!

Almost 10 years ago, The Sims 2 Pets was released in stores for PC as an expansion for The Sims 2 and a stand alone game for consoles. Hilary Duff, most known for playing Lizzie on the Disney show Lizzie McGuire, did promotional work for the game and in the console editions of the game she is an NPC along with her chihuahua Lola.

SimGuruNinja may have leaked a Game Pack 3 feature by accident.

When asked about if sims can call in sick for work, he showed off the feature along with the Buy a Restaurant option that fits The Sims 4 Game Pack 3‘s theme.

Improving the Resolution

When opening The Sims 2 (Ultimate Collection being the latest version), the first thing you’ll notice is the small 800×600 resolution being spread all over your monitor. Going to the Graphic Options menu won’t fix the issue as the only resolution listed will be the 800×600 one.

Don’t worry though – there’s an easy way to fix this!

Go to the directory where you installed your The Sims 2 game and then The Sims 2 > TSData > Res > Config (for Ultimate Collection it’s The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection > Fun With Pets > SP9 > TSData > Res > Config).
Find the Graphic Rules.sgr file and open it.
Search for option ScreenModeResolution and under settings $Low, change maxresWidth and maxResHeight to the current resolution of your monitor (1920×1080 resolution used for this article).

Save your Graphic Rules.sgr file and open The Sims 2.
You will now be able to select multiple screen resolutions, including the one that you’ve set up as the highest resolution.

Playing in Windowed Mode

Although you cannot set up the windowed mode in Graphics Options, you can use this small little cheat to force this mode whenever you open the game from your Desktop.

Find The Sims 2 shortcut on your desktop. If you can’t find the shortcut, find the Sims2EP9.exe file in The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection > Fun with Pets > SP9 > TSBin, right click and create shortcut.
Right click on the shortcut and select properties.
Under the Target section of the Shortcut Tab, add -w.
Press Apply and select OK.

Whenever you want to play The Sims 2 in Windowed Mode, use the shortcut that you edited using these steps.

Enabling Smooth Edges

For some reason, the Smooth Edges feature is always greyed out and cannot be set up.

This problem is often found in The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection version, but don’t worry, it can be solved with these tips:

Go to the directory where you installed your The Sims 2 game and then The Sims 2 > TSData > Res > Config (for Ultimate Collection it’s The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection > Fun With Pets > SP9 > TSData > Res > Config).
Find the Graphic Rules.sgr file and open it.
Search for enumerateMultisampleLevels and wherever it says false next to it, correct it with true. There are multiple lines with the enumerateMultisampleLevels so keep changing to true until there are no more results.

Save the file and close it.
You are now able to adjust the Smooth Edges!

Black Sim Shadows

Inside Lots, Sims will cast dark black shadows underneath them that may look like this:

There are 3 ways to fix this:

If you don’t mind mods, then download the Sim Shadow Fix Mod by Nopke. It will remove the black boxes + keep the Sim Shadows.

To install, download the Mod and extract the zip content in your save game folder (EA Games > The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection > Downloads – if you don’t have the Downloads folder, simply create it).

If you don’t like using mods, the second way is to simply set Shadows to Medium in the Graphics Settings.

The third way will save high Shadow quality but will remove Sim shadows.

Go to the directory where you installed your The Sims 2 game and then The Sims 2 > TSData > Res > Config (for Ultimate Collection it’s The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection > Fun With Pets > SP9 > TSData > Res > Config).
Find the Graphic Rules.sgr file and open it.
Search for option Shadows and under setting $high, change simShadows from true to false.

The Sims 4’s latest Game Update brings Tragic Clowns to the table! Unlike other NPCs (Non-Playable Characters), Tragic Clowns can both be played and found roaming around Neighborhoods.

To make your Sim a Tragic Clown which will give him/her Tragic characteristics, you need to dress up your Sim with the following (new!) CAS assets:

Tragic Hairstyle
Tragic Face Paint (3 Swatches)
Tragic Outfit (2 Swatches)
Tragic Shoes (2 Swatches)

Once you’re in the game, you’ll notice that your Sim now has some new interactions and moodlets!

Playing as a Tragic Clown

Tears of a Clown Moodlet

This is a Sad moodlet that will be entitled to your Sim once you dress him/her in Tragic clothing. As long as you’re wearing Tragic clothing, your Sim will have this +3 Sad moodlet – which, if you don’t have moodlets for different emotional states that are stronger, will put you in a Very Sad emotional state.

Juggle Interaction

Your Tragic Sim can Juggle! Click on your Sim, select Juggle and watch him/her fail. The results will always be, well, very tragic.

Tragically Try to Cheer Up Interaction

As a Tragic Sim, your Sim can Tragically Try to Cheer Up other Sims that are sad!

Other Moodlets

Such Tragedy! (+2 Sad Moodlet) – This Moodlet is given to Sims that are near to the Tragic Clown.
Misery Loves Company (+1 Happy Moodlet) – This Moodlet is given to Tragic Clowns who are found near other ‘Regular’ Sims.

Summoning the Tragic Clown

It’s very easy to summon a Tragic Clown. Simply buy the Tragic Clown painting in Build Mode for 200 Simoleons and select ‘View Tragic Clown’ until the Clown appears in your Room. Be cautious as the Clown will give your Sim the Such Tragedy! moodlet that will only disappear when you leave the Room where the Tragic Clown is.
