The Sims 4 Creative Construction: Roof Balcony DIY

the sims 4 building, the sims 4 build, the sims 4 build tutorial, tutorial, roof balcony, sims building, the sims buildingHello Simmers!

Welcome to the second instalment of a series that I’m going to call ‘Creative Construction’ while building in The Sims 4.

Custom content exists and is a huge part of the way some people play the game, which help to add specific objects not available in The Sims 4 to date. That’s great, but what about people who don’t want to mod in new meshes and want to keep their game strictly vanilla? Well, you’ve come to the right place! Each post in this series is a mini-tutorial which will show you how to combine items and create something not available in the game!

Roof Balcony

Disclaimer: This balcony is pretty, but non-functional.
I love to combine objects together for the Sims to enjoy, however there are times where I make something which is purely aesthetic and not necessarily useful. Thus, my roof balcony was formed.

This is a pretty easy tutorial, especially for those who don’t want a lot of steps. It mostly emerged from me feeling like this build needed something extra up top, so I thought I should share how it’s done with the community!

Make sure to have the bb.moveobjects cheat enabled!

Colour the sides to match your existing house. Since we cannot add a floor, we can impose a bottom into the area to look like one.
In the pool section, grab the ‘Lap Guides’ and nudge them up in place. Do this by selecting the item and using the ( 9 ) key on your keyboard. This is a technique I learned from The Sim Supply.

Resize using the keys ( [ ) and ( ] ) on your keyboard. Two fit great for my build, slightly overlapped in the middle.

Add some furniture, plants, or whatever you want with the ( 9 ) and ( 0 ) keys to place them in place. Your sim won’t be able to come up here, so don’t add anything crucial!

The Sims 4 Mod: Social Media Career For Teens

4

Popular The Sims 4 modder TwistedMexi is back again with a new mod which allows teen Sims be a part of the Social Media career which was added as part of the City Living expansion. Of course you might be thinking “how does that work if Teens have school?” Don’t worry it’s all covered! All you have to do is select the ‘work from home option’ and you won’t miss school. Just make sure you complete your homework as normal as that also helps with your reputation.

Top 5 The Sims 4 Pack Theme Speculations that lasted the longest

In the light of the recent events concerning The Sims 4 Pets and all the glorious code that started leaking since January 2017 I thought it would be a fun idea to make a Top 5 list of The Sims 4 Pack Themes / Names that leaked waaaaay before the original planned announcement. The Packs will be ordered by the most number of days we knew about that pack before the original announcement by The Sims Team.

5) The Sims 4 Get to Work

Cause of the leak: Game Code

How long did it take EA to confirm the pack: 29 days

It all started with the “Active Careers” term found in the game code 1 month before the game update and the Police scenario being mentioned in the game code. Honestly, we would’ve known about this pack theme in December 2014 as that’s when the game was updated with this code but this paragraph was hidden deep in the game code.

4) The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff

Cause of the leak: EA Employee slip-up

How long did it take EA to confirm the pack: 30 days

This pack beats The Sims 4 Get to Work by just one day. It all happened when a brave localization tester mentioned the fact that he worked on The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff. Right after our post he removed the Spooky Stuff line, but the damage was already done. Luckily he’s still working as a QA tester so we’re glad that mistake didn’t affect his career.

3) The Sims 4 Vampires

Cause of the leak: Game Code

How long did it take EA to confirm the pack: 37 days

Probably one of the biggest game code leaks in the history of The Sims Franchise. We knew plenty of information before EA’s actual announcement such as the new world, new death, new CAS parts and more.

2) The Sims 4 Dine Out

Cause of the leak: SimGuru

How long did it take EA to confirm the pack: 64 days

Probably one of the most far-fetched pack speculations that turned out to be true. We really hope SimGuruNinja still has a few of hints in his sleeve for upcoming TS4 packs!

Capture 7

1) The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs

Cause of the leak: Game Code

How long did it take EA to confirm the pack: 221 DAYS!

Yes, it’s been almost half a year since the game code for The Sims 4 Pets was leaked in the toddlers update and EA still did not announce the pack. Considering that there is so much mention of Cats and Dogs in the game code and that the structure of some game files has changed to adapt for this pack only confirms that this pack is bound to happen one day. Even SimGurus are not denying it and say that “some things are just unavoidable”.

The Sims 4 Pets: New Animation Codes for Cats and Dogs!

54

Modder TwistedMexi uncovered some interesting information regarding Cats and Dogs in The Sims 4 game files. According to his finding, these pets will be able to walk on the following objects:

  • Counters
  • Bars
  • Fridge
  • Tables
  • Beds

He did not find any more pet-supported surfaces that your Pets will be able to walk on but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any more in the upcoming Pets pack.

Here’s a small excerpt from the code which only mentions Cats and Dogs. The more code about Pets get leaked the more evidence we have that this Pack will primarily focus on Cats and Dogs:

Creating Floating Lots in San Myshuno

Hi I’m Jason Sterling. I like to use everything in a way that’s not intended. In this case I wanted to turn the high rise lots in San Myshuno into transparent, floating lots high above the city. This provides a great new vehicle for story telling.  As you can see below,  I use them as a platform for my steampunk airship the RM Cascadian.

Creating Floating Lots in San Myshuno

YOU WILL NEED CHEATS AND A MOD TO CREATE THESE LOTS:

  • TestingCheats True This cheat in conjunction with the MC Command Mod is what will allow you to delete the skyscraper shell.
  • bb.MoveObjects  (MOO) Allows build/buy items to be freely moved around within the build and activates the height slider that raises objects up and down in the air and on the walls using the number 9 for up and the number 0 for going back down.

If you are new to the Sims 4 or just new to building in the Sims 4, press CTRL/SHIFT/C to open the command box within your game and enter each of the cheats above should you wish to access their features.

STEP ONE – Download and Install MC Command Center from Deaderpool found here: https://deaderpoolmc.tumblr.com/

It’s relatively easy to install this mod on a Windows PC. Your mods folder is located within your Sims 4 folder, within the Electronic Arts folder, within your documents folder (Grid Picture 1). Create a new folder named “MC Command Center” in the Mods folder. Then place the MC Command Zip file into this folder (Grid Picture 2). You’ll need an extraction program for the next step. I use 7-Zip. You can find it for free here: http://www.7-zip.org/  Right click on the Zip file, select open with 7-Zip, and then select “Extract Here” to extract the files into the folder. (Grid Picture 3)

Lastly, if this is your first mod, go into Options while in game. Look under the “Other Options” tab and insure that the “script mods allowed” box and the “enable custom content and mods” box are checked (Grid Picture 4). Then you need to shut down and restart your game. When you next open your game MC Command Center will be installed.

Creating Floating Lots in San MyshunoSTEP TWO Delete the building

While you are in “live mode”, hover your cursor over the shell, press shift and click. A small menu will appear. Chose “Delete This Object”. Click it and the building will disappear.

Creating Floating Lots in San MyshunoSTEP THREE  Build your structure

The thing to know here is, if you are planning to erase the lot as detailed in step four, don’t build directly on the lot surface. Start your build on level two. Build a blank room on level one and build your structure on top of that. You can delete the blank room at the end of your build. (Grid Picture 1) When you erase the lot the floor of the structure on level one will disappear as well. (Grid Picture 2) I learned this the hard way while doing this build. It does not affect the flooring on the other levels.

Creating Floating Lots in San Myshuno

STEP FOUR – Erase the Lot

You can effectively erase the lot by using the “Shake and Shimmy Dance Floor Grande” from Get Together.  Align the dance floor near the corner of the lot. Leave at least one tile between it edge. Before placing it, hold down the “]” button to increase it’s size. (Grid Picture 1) Keep holding “]” to continue growing the floor. (Grid Picture 2) Eventually you’ll no longer see the floor itself.  You will still see the residual haze from the floor on the nearby buildings and the horizon. CONTINUE HOLDING THE “]” BUTTON! It takes a bit but you’ll see the haze dropping down the sides of nearby buildings first. (Grid Picture 3) The near buildings will clear, followed by the more distant buildings and then the horizon. You can click the dance floor into place once the horizon has cleared. The lot will then effectively disappear. (Grid Picture 4)

Creating Floating Lots in San MyshunoThe Caveat- I really enjoy this particular trick. It’s gives a cool feeling of truly floating over the city. However, travel between the plaza and the lot by elevator is not possible once the shell is erased. Instead you must hold shift and click on the plaza below. Then select “Teleport Here” to travel to the surface. You do the same to return to the lot above. You can travel to and return from anywhere else by phone or the elevator in the same manner as always.

Lastly, downloading and installing mods can seen daunting and even a little scary to the novice. If you have any questions about installing the above mod please don’t hesitate to ask below. I’m not an expert myself, lol but this mod is by a well known and trusted creator. It’s comprehensive in it’s options but very easy to use. I think most people will enjoy having it in game.

Still Building Strong – A Sims 1 Builder

The Sims franchise has been a continuous operation for over seventeen years. Many of us have been with the franchise that entire time. Even if you haven’t it can still be endearing and nostalgic to look back at the original Sims 1. As a builder I find a great way of doing that is by watching other builders via Youtube. To that end I’d like to introduce a Sims 1 builder I happened upon earlier this year who is still creating new Youtube content: Simzo. I’ve taken screen shots from her videos to illustrate a few quick points below but you should check out her builds fully via the link at the bottom. You’ll truly get a feel for what was the groundbreaking game of it’s time.

Still Building Strong – A Sims 1 BuilderIt was a new concept that you could take a completely blank space and create your own game surroundings in 2000. It was one of the things that attracted me to the game. The build engine compared favorably in my opinion to actual floor plan software that was on the market at the time.  In fact it crashed far less often then the software I had been using previously as a hobbyist builder. One thing I had forgotten about the original game were the shadow windows shown below. There was just an outline of the window to allow you to see unobstructed into the room while still knowing where you had placed them.

Still Building Strong – A Sims 1 BuilderThat has changed but many things have remained remarkably the same over the years. For instance we still have hedge “fencing” that’s not too different from the original. While the curved pool slide isn’t in the current game it has been present up through the Sims 3 in essentially the same design. Those upper kitchen cabinets probably look familiar to many of you as well.

Still Building Strong – A Sims 1 BuilderI love modern builds and Simzo has constructed a great Sims 1 version here. It, again, shows that as things change they stay the same. We still use 1×1 tile rooms as heavy, modern, support columns and half walls as balcony railings. How about the 1×1 tile floral plantings, yet another comfortable reminder that as much as the game changes it remains the same.

Still Building Strong – A Sims 1 BuilderThese are just a few quick observations. There’s so much more to see as you watch this excellent builder. Maybe even a few inspirational ideas from the past to spur your current building. I hope you’ll take a moment to check out Simzo for a view of where The Sims all started. You’ll find her complete channel line up here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvJmUIN3aknyHWsi6_Grgjw

Do you still build with the original Sims or know someone that does? Please feel free to post pictures or links below showcasing their work. You can also comment on what you remember about your first builds in the first game.

Thank-you for viewing this article. My next article will be back on the Sims 4. I’ll be focusing on the a novelty build trick using the new terrain pack created by TwistedMexi over on ModTheSims.
