Careers are a standard for The Sims and really one of the best ways to earn Simoleons and lead to a better life for your Sims… assuming that’s where your story leads. Careers can be daunting for some, especially in a new The Sims game that tweaks a few things you’re used to. Today we want to give you ten simple tips to hasten your rise from being a nobody to the top of your field!
Some of these are obvious for long-term Simmers, while others you might not know about. Really, it’s a system of layers and finding the right strategy for YOU is part of the fun!
1. Needy: Fulfill your Sims’ Needs before sending them to work! Make sure they have had a shower, a full meal, and aren’t desperately in need of fun! Happy Sims are happy workers.

Inside Mobile Apps Q&A With SimCity BuildIt Dev
Inside Mobile Apps: How much variety will there be in the different kinds of buildings that will be constructed? That is, will we see the same three or four home or commercial building templates repeated over and over again, or will our towns have a larger selection than that?
Jason Willig: There are literally hundreds of building types and variants of each. We will constantly be adding new content to ensure cities look unique.
IMA: Can you explain the game’s new crafting system for us? How will players create objects, and what will they be used for?
JW: Crafting is deep, but also very intuitive: players unlock Factories where they produce “materials” like steel beams, logs, plastic, seeds, etc. Then Commercial buildings are unlocked like the Farmers Market, Hardware Store, Building Supplies Store, Gardening Supplies Store, Donut Shop, etc. Players use the basic materials they “manufacture” in their Factories in certain combinations to create crafted items in their Commercial Buildings. Those crafted items are then used to upgrade Residential Zones, sold to friends or via the Trade Depot or used for Boat Missions to earn Golden Keys (which can be used to purchase City Specialization buildings).
IMA: It looks like SimCity BuildIt will offer a quest system. What sorts of quests can players expect to complete, and what will they receive for doing so?
JW: There is a lot of directed play in SimCity BuildIt, and several quest-like elements, but we really want this game to be about what the player wants to do, not necessarily what we want the player to do. We think that element of open-ended–ness and discovery is really important to making this feel like SimCity. Our goal is to present the user with choices (not just tasks to check off), show them why those choices matter (relative to goals) and support / guide them with teaching and quests along the way.
IMA: Will SimCity BuildIt be updated with seasonal events, limited edition content and other future updates?
JW: Yes!

AppTrigger Q&A with Jason Willig about SimCity BuildIt
The initial announcement revealed precious few details except that it would be built specifically for mobile, would be “bigger and better” thanks to the capabilities of Apple’s latest devices and launch sometime this fall (an Android version is also in the works). Fortunately, Jason Willig, Vice President and Group Manager for EA Mobile, kindly took some time out to answer a few of our questions and give us a clearer idea of what to expect.
App Trigger: From the early screenshots, SimCity BuildIt looks like it takes its visual cues from the most recent SimCity game on PC. Does it owe more to that game, older SimCity games, or a mix of both?
Jason Willig: SimCity BuildIt captures the stunning visuals of the SimCity PC game and incorporates iconic/classic elements from the franchise, but in a completely new, mobile-first design, built from the ground up to engage and delight a new generation of mobile gamers.
AT: Is there an overall story to the game, where you are building your city to complete certain scenarios? Or is it more of sandbox affair where you can build a city in whatever fashion you’d like?
JW: SimCity BuildIt unfolds using what we call a “user-generated narrative,” unique to each player. The game has a mix of directed and open ended play, but no specific, structured scenarios to complete. There are Boat Missions and city Specializations which represent more directed activities, progression and content paths for mid-stage players. There are also Disasters for late-stage players, and there is a lot more coming!
There are certain sandbox elements in the game but they’re decidedly different than the PC version, tailored instead for mobile players in shorter sessions. Players can really design and operate their city how they want, and make important choices but within certain constraints…those aspects are streamlined & balanced with more traditional mobile design elements consistent with shorter session play, etc. Sandbox games can be intimidating (they are to me anyhow) which we want to avoid. There are trade-offs here and we think we found a good balance.

Polygon: Ryan Vaughan talks new features in The Sims 4!
It is a proven fact that people love killing off Sims. From building swimming pools and removing the ladders to finding ways to kill Death itself, players of The Sims games seem to be obsessed with snuffing out their tiny creations.
And according to The Sims 4producer Ryan Vaughan, the developers are very okay with this. In fact, they encourage it.
“The Sims straddles that thin line of being a representation of reality but also an escape for our players,” Vaughan told Polygon. “It’s about giving players the ability to tell the stories they want to tell.”
Vaughan noted that players also now have the ability to play a ghost. So once you’ve effectively killed off your Sim, you can resurrect them from the Netherworld and have them go about their business as usual. Only this time as a glowing, transparent ghost.
Vaughan said that player reaction to a Sims game without pools was so intense that developers knew they had to rectify the situation as soon as possible. This time around, however, Sims have the ability to sit on the side of pools and climb out without use of a ladder, eliminating the fan-favorite way of knocking them off.
