SimGuruCopeland and other TS3 Store Gurus are leaving Maxis!

After announcing the last The Sims 3 Store Set (coming this August), SimGuruCopeland decided to make a blog post announcing that he’s leaving The Sims Team! He also mentioned that no one from The Sims 3 Store team will move to The Sims 4 Team.

Recently a friend and I were talking about a segment on NPR where they asked people to define their job in five words or less.  For me it was simply, “Imagine fun and make it”.  That’s what I have gotten to do every day on The Sims 3 Store and it has been amazing. But, after seven incredible years, it’s time for me to move on to the next great thing.

I’ve loved MAXIS games and the dream of a digital dollhouse called The Sims had me from day one.  Like most of the Will Wright’s amazing sandbox games, it wasn’t about “what level you’re on” or “what your high score is”, it was about creative expression.  The Sims and SimCity helped define the type of gamer I am and more importantly the game designer I have become.  They helped infuse my passion for making genuinely entertaining and innovative gaming experiences and for that I’ll be forever thankful.

I’ve had so much fun working on this team and interacting with all of you.  We have an amazing final release coming up in August (that we’ll be teasing until release day!), aptly named “Last Venue of Amore”. I hope you love it as much as we do.

Goodbye

The Sims 4 is rated T for Teen by ESRB!

ESRB_T

The Sims 4 finally receives it’s rating – T for Teen! Although this rating applied for previous The Sims games as well, it’s nice to see that the ESRB team wasn’t so cruel to this game like Russian’s rating system, who gave The Sims 4 18+ rating.

The Sims Russia explained about 2 months ago why was such hard rating given to The Sims 4:

18 + has been assigned in accordance with the law number 436-FZ “On the protection of children from information harmful to their health and development.

DigitalSpy interviews Ryan Vaughan about The Sims 4!

It’s always brought up when you talk about any entry to the Sims series – through its 14-year history, people have taken great joy in… well, murdering their little computer people.

Ryan Vaughan, producer for The Sims 4, is acutely aware of this. “One of the things people always ask for is new ways to kill their Sims,” he laughed.

gaming-the-sims-4-screenshot-10

So that’s just what The Sims 4 introduces. The increased focus on the emotional states of your characters means there are more ways for them to pass away, like laughing themselves to death after a housemate sets a cupcake machine on fire, or getting so angry they pop their clogs on the spot.

“We didn’t just want to make a brand new way [to die]. We wanted to tie it to the core new simulation experience, with emotions and personalities and things like that,” Vaughan told Digital Spy.

“It seemed to fit really well that you could embarrass your Sim to death, or you could have them be so hysterical that they laugh to death. You even have the ability now to push your Sim into such a deep rage that they’ll keel over and die from anger.

The Sims 4 – More info about System Requirements!

SimGuruLyndsay recently said on Twitter that she’s locking down the System Requirements for The Sims 4! This means that the game is in the final stage of testing.

We wanted to make sure that The Sims Team is still standing by their statement that The Sims 4 will run better on Low-End Computers than The Sims 3, so we asked Lyndsay on Twitter. Her answer was quite promising:

The Sims 4 – New Tidbits by SimGuruGrant and SimGuruGraham (20/07)

Most of the Sims at the party panicked and ran out of the house due to the fire 🙂 We wanted our Sims to quickly show off the new emotional deaths during the E3 demo though; normally they’d prioritize the fire in that situation.

Sims Community’s News Recap! (20th of July, 2014)

20thjulyrecap

This week started off fantastically with new info about The Sims 4’s brand new World – Oasis Springs! This world will ship with the Base Game this September.

Have a look at what GamesRadar said about this World:

The Sims 4 will have another environment to compliment the lush Willow Creek neighborhood, and this one’s more on the parched side. The recently unveiled Oasis Springs district is set in the middle of an arid desert, and has the look of suburban Las Vegas. This locale is filled with desert-themed charm, complete with set-pieces like cactuses and shed-sized air conditioners (and is that a Western-motif diner I see in the background?). You can still build lovely homesteads with plenty of modern comforts. You’ll likely have tons of fun in this…wellspring? Fountain? Watering hole? It’s right on the tip of my tongue…

Sims Community’s News Recap! (20th of July, 2014)

Not only that, but they also teased that Alien Abduction is possible in TS4. Not sure how much can we trust the ”Try not to get abducted by Aliens” sentence, but the fact that they went to Redwood Shores to play a non-scripted and newest build of the game may be enough proof.

Later that day, PekeSims managed to extract all 8 versions of all 7 Songs from The Sims 4 CAS Demo! Each Version of each Soundtrack adds up an instrument or two.

The Sims Social Accounts posted a new Concept Art of The Sims 4’s Cowplant to celebrate the Cow Appreciation Day!

SimGuruAzure was also active on Social Network, Twitter, as she revealed 2 skills for Children in The Sims 4 – Violin and Piano Skills!

The next day brought a pleasant surprise as Origin announced that Simmers who registered The Sims 2 on their Origin Account will get The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection for free! They explained that The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection includes all Expansion and Stuff Packs from The Sims 2 Series and that it takes at least 1 The Sims 2 game in order to get this Collection.

Simmers decided to mess around The Sims 4 CAS Demo’s code a little more. SimsDomination managed to extract more than 170 Icons from the CAS Demo!

Rachael Franklin published a blog and explained that Simmers can now register to increase their chances of getting The Sims 4 CAS Demo rather than waiting to be selected randomly. If you’d like to early access this Demo, check out THIS post for more information! They also made THIS tutorial on how to apply for CAS Demo early access!

We were relieved to hear that modding Skin Tones in The Sims 4 CAS is possible. Talented modder Tedw managed to change the color of the Sim below from blue to purple.

With a help from Simfans.de, we managed to break through The Sims 4 CAS Demo code and find more Bonus Traits and Rewards. We also found a list of Relationships that can be edited straight from Create a Sim!

The Sims 3 Store released a new Featured Look called Sandy Shoals Sea Shanty! This new Residental Lot includes some new Wallpapers, along with Store Content from previous Store Sets.

After we got The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection, we’ve decided to make a post and explain what exactly does The Sims 2 UC include, as well as how do you get one. Surprisingly, this Collection did include The Sims 2 Holiday! Stuff Pack.

The Sims 3 Store Sales Page received an update, with more items and Sets being on Sale for a lower discount.

Finally, the long awaited Gameplay Walkthrough of The Sims 4 was released, showing off the adventures of SimGuruRyan and SimGuruGraham in the World of Willow Creek. We managed to take more than 460 High Quality screens (1920×1080) from the Video in case you want to go into detail with this new Walkthrough.

The new Video has shown a Loading Screen between Lots and Neighborhoods, as well as some info about The Sims 4 Premium Memberships. We’re not sure how exactly will they function, but we do assume that you’ll have to pay for your Premium Membership in advance to get DLC content before everyone else who didn’t pay for their Membership.

Thankfully, SimGuruGraham made some statements and clarified some info we saw in the new TS4 Walkthrough Video.

This week ended with a new-old Screen of The Sims 4, although this time it’s really HQ!

SIMS2SEpcSCRNsumFireflyCt

At this time, all Origin customers who had previously registered their copy of The Sims 2 should now have the newly remastered The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection in their Origin My Games library.

We know that there are a lot of fans of The Sims who may not have had their copy of the game registered on Origin, and we want to reward The Sims fans for their incredible loyalty and commitment to the franchise.

As a result, we are developing an easy way for any eligible customer who owns a physical disc copy of The Sims 2 to upgrade easily to the new Ultimate Collection edition. We will update this article on or before Wednesday July 23 at 10am PT, with detailed instructions on what you need to do to get your own copy of The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection.

The Sims 4 – SimGuruGraham clarifies the new Video!

Die Sims 4_ Gameplay Walkthrough-Trailer 319

SimGuruGraham decided to explain some features and facts we saw in The Sims 4’s new Gameplay Video.

The idea of a “chameleon buff” will be much easier to explain and understand with the game running in front of you. I’ll try and give an overview though. The Happy emotion is special in that it can modify other positive emotions. If your Sim only has a +10 Happy moodlet, then they’re Happy. But if they have a +10 Happy moodlet, and a +5 Playful moodlet, then they’re Playful (even though the Happy moodlet is stronger). This is because the Happy emotion acts as a boost to any other positive emotions your Sim is feeling. You can see examples of this throughout the demo – the moodlets with the green plus symbols above them are actually Happy moodlets that were modified to boost another positive emotion. What we’ve changed since then was to make the moodlet’s color a gradient, so the background would look like green fading to purple to show happy -> playful. I know that all sounds complicated and confusing – it was overwhelming when it was first explained to me as well. Once you play with it in-game though it feels totally natural and easy to understand.
