SimCity Cities of Tomorrow Review

3

Hello! Previously I showed you how other futuristic cities can affect your city. Now it’s time to build a futuristic city by myself!  😀

After you successfully registered SimCity Cities of Tomorrow on Origin, this Expansion Pack will activate by itself and it won’t require any further installation.

SimCity 2013-11-14 10-22-06-86

I loaded my old region and I was immediately greeted with helpful tips for Cities of Tomorrow. They will only appear once every time you load a server for the first time.

SimCity 2013-11-14 10-24-10-04 SimCity 2013-11-14 10-24-51-53 SimCity 2013-11-14 10-24-48-14 SimCity 2013-11-14 10-24-45-03 SimCity 2013-11-14 10-24-42-55 SimCity 2013-11-14 10-24-39-66 SimCity 2013-11-14 10-24-36-97 SimCity 2013-11-14 10-24-26-64 SimCity 2013-11-14 10-24-23-48 SimCity 2013-11-14 10-24-17-40 SimCity 2013-11-14 10-24-13-61

I wanted to start from scrath, so I made a new region.

SimCity 2013-11-16 12-28-00-83 SimCity 2013-11-16 12-41-26-39

I started playing in 2 towns. 1 was for OmegaCo production and the other one was all about High Wealth and Tourism.

I started badly in my OmegaCo city. I already managed to get my profits in minus. The only reason I selected this City area is because it’s full of Ore and Oil. In order to produce OmegaCo, you need those 2 resources. You can import them, but it pays off better if you extract them by yourself. It was time to build a new city in order to help out this one.

OmegaCo helps your Residental,(MegaTowers too) Commercial and Industrial Zones to boost up their profit. No one knows what does OmegaCo look like, but it does help you make a lot of money.

SimCity 2013-11-16 12-33-50-94

I zoned some Commercial and Residental Zones in my new Town.

SimCity 2013-11-16 12-41-58-61 SimCity 2013-11-16 12-46-22-10

After some time, my Town grew.

It was time for me to plop The Academy.

SimCity 2013-11-16 12-55-13-64 SimCity 2013-11-16 13-02-36-02

With The Academy, you can research Futuristic Buildings so that, after you finish the research, they get unlocked.

Those buildings also provide ControlNet, which is needed for buildings that are researched by The Academy.

1 Sim can help to provide 50 ControlNet. There are maximum 350 Sims who can work in The Academy: 50 Low Wealth, 100 Medium Wealth and 200 High Wealth.

Upgrading The Academy will boost up ControlNet productivity. There are 3 Upgrades available. Each Upgrade brings 25% more ControlNet.

SimCity 2013-11-14 10-27-48-45

After finishing the Maglev Research, I’m able to build Maglev Stations and rails.

Each Maglev Station requires 50 ControlNet.

SimCity 2013-11-16 14-11-29-97

That will surely help my Sims transport throughout the town.

Still, I needed more Sims in my City. The best way to get a huge number of Sims in 1 small area is to build a MegaTower.

MegaTowers are leveled buildings that can be stacked one by one. Each MegaTower can have 8 levels + a Crown.

You can build maximum 8 MegaTowers in 1 City.

This is the Elite MegaTower. You can only place Medium and High Wealth levels in there.

SimCity 2013-11-16 14-33-13-17 SimCity 2013-11-16 17-54-57-99 SimCity 2013-11-16 17-55-02-71 SimCity 2013-11-16 18-06-20-72

I needed more tourists, so I plopped the Launch Arcology. The Launch Arcology comes with the Limited Edition of Cities of Tomorrow.

It launches 10,000 Sims into Space. Most of them are tourists, but some of them are also Prisoners and Homeless Sims.

Tourists will pay you to go to space, which is a great way to earn money.

SimCity 2013-11-17 14-50-33-75

You can launch the Arcology after more than 5,000 are prepared for the launch, but I’ll till the Launch Arcology is full.  🙂

All 10,000 Sims were ready to go to space! It was time to push the big, red, ”Launch Now” button! After pushing that button, you will initiate the 1 hour countdown.

Farewell dear tourists and thank you for giving me so much money!

Spark_2013-11-17_15-47-45 SimCity 2013-11-17 15-15-56-42

Oh noes, looks like they were captured by hostile Aliens! Oh well, it’s not my fault.  :smug:

SimCity 2013-11-17 15-49-26-49

Luckily, that won’t stop me from plopping another Launch Arcology. This time, it only costs 200,000 Simoleons!

SimCity 2013-11-17 16-14-06-56

I plopped a lot of MegaTowers in my region, and thanks to the finished Academy Research, I can now build Skybridges between them.

SimCity 2013-11-17 14-57-22-05 SimCity 2013-11-17 16-59-51-35

I reached the max by building all 8 MegaTowers. All of them have crowns. Most of them are Advertising Crowns that boost profit to Office and Mall Levels. The more Crowns you have, the bigger bonus boost you get. For each crown in the region you get 20% boost. You can only boost 1 crown to 100%.

Spark_2013-11-17_16-49-41

Ooops, I totally forgot about my first City!

I sent all money I earned from MegaTowers to invest in OmegaCo production. Sadly, that didn’t work out well since there were a lot of Low Wealth Sims, causing a huge traffic jam. That gave me a huge minus in profits, so I decided to build some regular MegaTowers.

Regular MegaTowers are for Low-Medium Wealth Sims only. They can accomodate a lot of Sims.

Spark_2013-11-18_09-59-06 Spark_2013-11-18_10-05-43

I don’t like my Low-Wealth city so much. First of all, I don’t earn enough money. Then there’s a huge traffic jam causing all Sims to stop.  🙁

I advise you to play it safe and build Elite MegaTowers. They can bring you up to 40K Simoleons per Hour + Sims are much happier when they are surrounded by High-Wealth Buildings.

The good:

This Expansion Pack is full of new ways to expand your city and earn quick money. There are a lot of cool new features that make the base game much more enjoyable and playable. From new Transportation system to new ways to produce Energy, this Expansion Pack helps your Sims of today prepare for better tomorrow.

Money income from MegaTowers is very stabile, but you need to have a good strategy of leveling your MegaTower in order to get your MegaTower profits even bigger.

I really love futurized SimCity tunes included in this Expansion Pack!

THE BAD:

This Expansion Pack doesn’t include flying cars!  :-(( (joking) Still, OmegaCo causes a huge complication in your City, which is why I’m not a fan of this feature.

GRADE:

9.4/10

SimCity Cities of Tomorrow is a great way to introduce new players to the SimCity franchise.

Thanks for reading my review!

If you like this Expansion Pack, why not PURCHASE IT?

For the end of this review, please enjoy some of Cities of Tomorrow screens that didn’t make the cut.

Origin: Which game drops to 1€ on Black Friday?

0

If you don’t know what Black Friday is, it’s a day when all prices of any product go super low. Black Friday starts on 28th of November.

Origin is supporting this cause by dropping prices of their games. They made a poll where you get to choose which game drops to 1€ on Black Friday.

Even if you don’t have The Sims 3 Pets, be sure to vote for it so that other people who can’t afford it now, they probably will on Black Friday.

Ultimate Career Mod Now Available

Talented Zerbu made a mod that allows you to see and control your Sims in a Career Rabbit Hole.

The end of career rabbitholes is here! With Ultimate Careers, instead of going into a rabbithole to work, Sims will spend the work day at a community lot, doing work-related interactions – or slacking off. A “Perform Job” menu has been added to certain objects, with options for “Work Normal” and “Work Hard”. Using these interactions will increase a Sim’s performance faster than normal, though it will drain their Fun need.

The Sims 4 System Requirements are STILL unknown!

1

For those of you who’ve been reading a lot of articles about The Sims 4 System Requirements, I just want to point out that some of them contain false or misunderstood info about The Sims 4 System Requirements. There is no way that requirements can be set for a game that’s still in pre-alpha!

SimGuruGraham gave more info about The Sims 4 Requirements back in October:

Ah, Sims 4 system requirements… unfortunately I don’t have any I can share other than saying we’re aiming at having Sims 4 run smoothly across a wide variety of systems. Optimizing is one of the last things that happens during game development; until that occurs we won’t nail down our final minimum/suggested requirements.

With that being said, we can expect info about The Sims 4 System Requirements in Q2 of 2014.

Until then, don’t forget that we still have lots of great things coming for The Sims 3!  😀

The first ever Sims game I actually played was The Sims 2. I tried to work it out, but it was really tricky to get the hang of. My dad, whom I’d watched playing The Sims, helped me work it out (build/buy, at least) and I was off building houses that’d be six storeys high, and then I’d get confused and wonder why I couldn’t put a roof on the top. Soon after, I discovered expansion packs and live mode. I then went on to buy every expansion pack – but, mind you, I didn’t care much for stuff packs. I had no idea about The Sims 3 until my neighbour let me borrow his copy whilst he was away on a trip. I fell in love instantly; and I had a much deeper connection with my Sims on that game than I had on The Sims 2. I have every expansion and stuff pack to date for The Sims 3 now, and I still play the game whenever I can.
I’m currently still in school so that takes up a lot of time. I’m actually very social, so I’m often out doing something with friends. When I’m not busy with my mates or doing homework, I’ll play The Sims or SimCity (I got that game in August). It was also in August that I had the idea for SMAGAZINE, a magazine that would showcase design in The Sims 3 – something that hadn’t really been done before. I didn’t realise what a huge undertaking it would be when I first started, because I didn’t try and recruit a team – I was a one-man show. I managed to finish the issue eventually, and shared it. It didn’t really gain that much popularity, but the fact I’m still writing new issues and getting together more features such as interviews show that I mean business with this magazine. I want this magazine to be something people can look to for inspiration when they see that daunting empty 64×64 lot staring at them from their computer screen. In the future, I hope to build up a team of writers, editors and builders for SMAGAZINE so I can release issues on a more regular basis. I want to see what I can do with this, and I want to see what will happen to SMAGAZINE.
On the topic of the future – I can’t wait for The Sims 4. I respect and support what EA is trying to do with The Sims 4, and I’ve really liked what I’ve seen from the game so far. The Sims with emotions looks so exciting, and the continuous timeline of actions (similar to what we’ve seen from Into the Future) is a nice touch. I’m also loving the look of the new creative tools, especially Create-a-Sim. I don’t tend to try that hard when I make my Sims, so hopefully that’ll encourage me to get more hands-on. The quick building tools look nice too, and hopefully they’ll let us build a really nice-looking house for our Sims in the fraction of the time it’d take to do so on The Sims 3.
Finally, if you’d like to check out the official magazine website, visit smagazine.tk but go to http://issuu.com/smagazineofficial/docs/smagazine_issue_1 to check out the first issue.

Nothing new about The Sims 4 in the next few Months!

2

The Sims 4 was announced 5 months ago (7th of May, 2013), and it’s first look was shown 3 months ago (20th of August, 2013). Since then, all major info about The Sims 4 we got is a more specified release date (Autumn/Fall 2014).

Rachel Franklin replied to a Tweet, saying that we won’t be getting new info for The Sims 4 in the new few Months. I hope that the wait will be worth it!  🙂

Until The Sims 4 releases, we’ll at least have 1 new The Sims 3 Store World, new Premium Store Content, new Store Sets, and who knows: maybe Into the Future isn’t the last Expansion Pack in The Sims 3 Series!  ?:-)
