Instead, expect a multiplayer experience and new enhanced ways of playing The Sims 4.
According to an exclusive press interview, EA doesn’t plan to halt the production of The Sims 4 and get ready for the next title and new generation of DLC. The EA vice president and general manager for The Sims Franchise Kate Gorman revealed to variety today about the future they have for The Sims 5. And how they exactly define the next Sims game actually transforming and enhancing from the already existing Sims 4 games into new experiences.
EA stated that with Project Rene and the next experiences for The Sims, they plan to expand the way you play The Sims 4 but never replace it. Nor the DLC progress and all the possibilities you’ve explored so far in your save games. Instead, the next experiences will add on top of The Sims 4 experience and be possible to be their own standalone experience.
EA’s vice president and general manager of “The Sims” franchise Kate Gorman told Variety the main reason behind this decision to not publish a 5th edition of the game was the concern players (there are more than 80 million worldwide, per EA) would have to start all over again after a decade’s worth of gameplay in the existing “Sims 4.”
“The way to think about it is, historically, ‘The Sims’ franchise started with ‘Sims 1’ and then ‘Sims 2,’ ‘3’ and ‘4.’ And they were seen as replacements for the previous products,” Gorman said. “What we’re really working with our community on is this a new era of ‘The Sims.’ We are not going to be working on replacements of previous projects; we’re only going to be adding to our universe. With that, you’ll see there are more ways to experience ‘The Sims’ on different platforms, different ways to play, transmedia, and lots of great offerings within this universe. So absolutely, we’re still continuing to support ‘TS4’ more than ever. Still continue to deliver expansion packs and updates and fixes. But what this is to say is, the way we’re going to do things going forward is a little different. And it’s really exciting and it’s really the most expansive iteration of ‘The Sims’ yet.”
For clarity, when asked specifically if there will not be a “Sims 5,” Gorman added, “it’s not ‘Sims 5’ as a replacement for ‘4.’”
“What this means is that we will continue to bring HD simulation experience and what people would want from a ‘5’ — but it doesn’t mean that we’re going to start you over, reset all your progress, and really feel like you’re going to lose all of that amazing play you put into ‘4,’” Gorman said. “I think as we think about the future of it, we want you to continue all of those families and generations. Those creations are your progress, your attachment. We don’t want to reset your progress. And so it’s not about as much of what the numbers are in the games, but know that the future of the franchise looks more like keeping your progress, keeping things across titles, and really having an ongoing experience, and not a start-and-stop experience between products.”
What’s being considered for The Sims 4
The Future of The Sims Franchise preview from today gave a glimpse at the new social features expected to arrive for The Sims 4 sometime soon. It seems that The Sims 4 is being built upon and enhanced throughout the next few months, and we’ll have to wait and see how EA delivers it to the players.

First rounds of leaks confirm the updated arrival of this cult classic for Nintendo Switch!
The Sims Franchise is expanding beyond The Sims 4 to bring back a classic to Nintendo Switch platforms. MySims, which dominated mostly Nintendo Wii platforms back around 2007 is coming back better and with a Switch twist, according to the journalists.
First MySims 2024 Leaks on Retail Sites
MySims for Nintendo Switch has started leaking on several retail online website stores. Including world of games which still has MySims (Nintendo Switch) listing up on their website.
The rumored release date, according to the leak, is November 19th, 2024. Available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch platform.
This leak has further been confirmed by Kotaku, saying that their inside anonymous source has confirmed that a new MySims game will definitely be coming later this year.
While Kotaku can’t confirm those specifics, the Switch port of MySims is real and coming soon, according to a source familiar with the plans. EA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The official EA.com web page for their Nintendo Switch games seems to include MySims. When clicked on the game page it just directs to The Sims 4 page, but it could mean that this addition has been made recently and that an announcement is coming soon.
What to Expect
MySims was an official Sims spin-off developed by EA and Maxis, first launched in 2007. The game also came with plenty of mini-game variants of spinoffs with the MySims title, including MySims Agents, MySims Kingdom and more.
This game was sold for console platforms first including Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, with the base game experience of MySims launching later for PC. All until a few years after EA officially cancelled the MySims PC servers and the franchise altogether.
The rumors seem to be real and it’ll be interesting to see what’s been improved and added in the newest port, and whether or not they plan to add more to the game rather than just polished and improved graphics!

[AHQ] A Sim who was met on a Blind Date and then canceled on (rude!) now can be asked to Create a Date. Previously, the interface was blank.

Paradox Interactive’s attempt at a Life Simulation game cost them a lot of money.
A few weeks ago we reported about Life By You, an upcoming life simulation game by Paradox Tectonic being permanently being cancelled. Shortly after the announcement the entire development studio shut down as well, with its employees looking for new job opportunities after almost 4 years of working on the game.
Publisher Paradox Interactive announced in their earnings call about how much this decision cost them. Revealing that close to $20 Million USD were lost to the now failed development of Life By You.
Reported by Game Watcher, the news came from Paradox’s latest earnings call for the second quarter of FY2024. Revealing in the financial report that their operating profit has been decreased by 90% over the last 3 month period.
Paradox is housed in Sweden, so all financial reports are issued in its local currency, Swedish Krona. Operating profit amounted to MSEK 28.9 (MSEK 292.9), a decrease by 90 %. Write-downs of MSEK 208.0 (MSEK 0.0) are included in the operating profit.
The CEO of Paradox Interactive shared his sentiment in the earnings call about the cancellation of Life By You. Stating that even though they’ve managed to somewhat stay afloat with their core business operations, they’re still ending the quarter with “mixed feelings”. Mixed feelings being 20 million US dollars loss in revenue.
We end the second quarter of the year with mixed feelings. On the one hand, our core business has performed very well, but on the other hand, we made the difficult decision to cancel the release of Life by You, as the game would not be able to meet our expectations.
Looking at the quarter’s results, we’ve released several strong expansions with good quality to our core games, which has a positive impact on the top line and provides a good cash flow from operating activities. The bottom line is sadly weighed down by the write-down of Life by You. It is painful but gives us a strong motivation to further improve our operations.
The development of Life By You took place in Berkeley, California which housed several Life by You developers at the time who worked on the project for 4 years total. It’s not known what exactly caused Paradox to lose so much money other than having to manage a team of more than a dozen developers in a state with bigger cost of living. Either way, the report seemingly confirms just how much this project was grossly mismanaged.
Paradox Interactive is currently focusing their strengths on their current video game titles, such as Cities Skylines 2. There are only a handful life simulation game competitors to The Sims left to be released. Including Paralives, which is set to release in Early Access in 2025. And InZOI, which looking at the previews will need a NASA super computer to be ran properly.
Stay tuned on Sims Community for more updates on upcoming life simulation games!
A new Category for Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs has been brought by a modder!
It’s only been a couple of hours since the latest Expansion Pack came out, and modders are already deep in exploring new Sims 4 Lovestruck Mod options and how they can deepen the existing gameplay.
I was personally excited to hear about the return of the Attraction system with the new Pack. However, as someone who’s been playing the game since The Sims 2 days I was left a bit disappointed to know that there aren’t any Physical Features included in the Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs menu.
Turn-Ons & Offs in The Sims 2 / Image: The Sims Wiki
Some might argue that these attraction features haven’t been included in The Sims 4 due to the sensitive nature of superficial attraction these turn-ons bring. Still, what if I wanted to create superficial Sims myself?
The same sentiment was shared by a modder who brought these attraction values to life with a new Sims 4 Lovestruck Mod. Giving more variety in storytelling and gameplay for your dating Sim experience.
The Sims 4 Physical Features Attraction Mod
Created by modder and creator Down in Simsland, The Sims 4 Physical Features Attraction Mod covers new turn-ons and turn-offs that depend on your Sim’s physical attributes. Those include body hair, weight, piercings, makeup, eye color and tattoos.
The Physical Features attraction category replaces the Outfit Color preferences – meaning that you’ll have to sacrifice the latter in order to enjoy these new turn-ons and turn-offs. There’s some complexity to this Mod that I was surprised to see – such as facial hair not accounting just any from mentioned category. Five o’clock stubble won’t catch another Sim’s attention unless they decide to have a fuller facial hair look!
Here’s what the creator of this Mod had to share about how this Sims 4 Lovestruck Mod functions:
As this can be a rather sensitive topic, I fully understand why it wasn’t included by default with the pack, and I think it was the right decision. But since I like to create characters with a wide range of personalities, I needed them for narrative reasons (e.g. for more superficial characters who would have those kinds of preferences).
I replaced the Outfit Color preferences, as I know many of you won’t use them, to create those traits:
Body Types: 4 preferences that correspond to a different combinations of the two fitness sliders
Facial Hair: the facial hair that are categorized ad length 1 (out of 3) are not considered for this one. If your sim has only a few hairs on the chin, it’s out of the scope
Body Hair: all levels of back hair, level 2 & 3 of chest hair, level 3 of arm of leg hair only. Only one item required.
Make-Up: two items of make-up at least (I didn’t include eyelashes, as I know it will be used idependently of make-up)
Eye Color: blue, green or brown eyes. Unnatural eye colors are not included.
Tattoos & Piercings: one item required, of course, earrings don’t count as piercings in this case.
At the moment, everything is translated in english, french, spanish and portugese. If you can help me with other translations, feel free to contact me, I can include that in a next release!
How to Install this Sims 4 Lovestruck Mod
The Sims 4 Physical Features Attraction Mod can be installed only on PC / Mac platforms. Simply paste the linked mod that we’ve included in the button below in the save game files (Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods folder). I’ve tested this Mod with the latest version of The Sims 4 Base Game currently available and it works like a charm!
You can try the Mod yourself and add it in your game by clicking the download button below. The SimFileShare link is included at the bottom of the linked page.
