With The Sims 4 Royalty and Legacy expansion pack that released a little while ago, throne rooms have transformed from decorative afterthoughts into the beating heart of regal storytelling. These spaces hold more than just ornate chairs and polished floors, they hold tension, triumph, whispered alliances, and the quiet weight of a crown passed down through generations.

What makes these throne rooms truly special is the way they invite you to build not just a room, but a presence. Rich velvets and silk drape across towering windows, and gilded details catch the light just enough to remind you that nothing here is accidental. Whether you lean into the opulence of gold-lined walls and dramatic chandeliers or prefer a more restrained, old-world stone hall with flickering sconces, each throne room becomes a reflection of the ruler who sits within it.

Some feel warm, almost inviting, a place where subjects might approach without fear, while others are cold, imposing, and heavy with unspoken rules. And then there are the hidden details like elevated platforms that quite literally place your monarch above the rest, and carefully placed décor that tells stories long before your Sims ever speak.

This throne room has such a soft, romantic take on royalty, swapping darker regal colors for pale greens, creams and delicate florals. Rather than feeling imposing, the room has the atmosphere of a beautiful royal ceremony, with rows of chairs leading towards the raised throne and two matching seats for other members of the royal household. The draped curtains behind the throne create a suitably grand focal point, while chandeliers, ornate columns and those gorgeous floral walls make the whole space feel almost like a palace conservatory.

I particularly love the little aisle lined with flowers. You can just imagine Sims gathering here for an important announcement, an audience with the monarch or perhaps even a royal wedding. Although knowing Sims, someone will probably wander down the aisle carrying a dirty plate at the crucial moment.

The creator has actually shared the room across three Gallery uploads, so you will need all three pieces if you want to recreate the complete space shown here. Once together, there are some lovely extra details beyond the throne itself. A grand piano gives your royal Sims a spot for a little live entertainment, while the podium feels perfect for speeches and official proclamations.

There is a buffet/serving station tucked to one side, because apparently ruling a kingdom works up an appetite! As well as a radiogram for when the piano feels too much or the conversation feels too average. With its abundance of flowers, elegant seating and wonderfully light color palette, this is a lovely choice if you want your royal residence to feel graceful and welcoming while still giving your monarch a throne worthy of the title.

This Throne Room goes all in on traditional royal grandeur, with a beautiful white and gold color scheme that immediately makes the space feel fit for a monarch. The throne takes pride of place beneath an enormous draped canopy, framed by golden curtains, tall columns and glowing candelabras. I love how the creator has positioned suits of armor around the room too.

They look like royal guards standing watch over proceedings, which adds so much character without needing an army of actual Sims loitering around. Not that Sims won't do that, they most probably will but hey. Rows of elegant armchairs face the throne with a long runner leading straight towards it, making this a brilliant setup for holding court, receiving important visitors or gathering the kingdom together for a particularly dramatic royal announcement.

There are some lovely storytelling details tucked around the throne too, including a podium ready for speeches and a smaller ornate chair beside the monarch. Even the paintings and chandeliers continue that extravagant palace feel, while the huge windows prevent all that white and gold from becoming too heavy. And depending where you place this build the views out these windows could be sublime!

The creator describes this as a room for Sims who have reached the top of the Nobility career, and it certainly looks the part. This is a wonderfully straightforward Gallery addition if your royal residence happens to be missing somewhere suitably grand for its ruler to sit, wave regally and quietly judge everyone who has been summoned before them.

Garden Throne (Green) - Ningualote

If you like your royal builds with rich color and plenty of ceremony, this is certainly going to catch your eye. Deep emerald green and gold run throughout the room, from the enormous canopy framing the throne to the rugs, curtains and banners. The throne itself sits between two smaller chairs for the monarch’s spouse and heir, while suits of armor stand guard nearby. There is even space for 18 seated guests of the court, according to the creator, making this feel like a throne room designed for actual royal gatherings rather than simply somewhere pretty to place a crown wearing Sim.

Despite all that grandeur, there is a lovely garden influence running through the room too. Tall floral arrangements, potted trees and leafy wall designs soften the columns and armor, creating an interesting balance between formal palace interiors and an elegant palace garden. Turn around from the throne and you will find the guest seating arranged around a central aisle, with portraits, chandeliers and more heavy green curtains completing the space.

There is also a podium beside the throne, perfect for addressing the court, announcing a new heir or revealing whichever scandal has inevitably rocked the royal family this week. With its dramatic emerald palette and generous seating, this would be a fantastic room for players who really lean into the storytelling side of royal gameplay.

Turret Throne Room - growinglungs

If you are working with a smaller castle and wondering where on earth you are supposed to squeeze in a throne room, this one has a clever solution. Designed specifically to fit inside a turret, this compact room still manages to feel wonderfully regal thanks to its emerald green and gold color scheme. The throne sits proudly at the end of a green runner, framed by tall golden lights and rich curtains, while matching ornate chairs create two neat rows for members of the court.

It is a much more intimate setup than some of the larger throne rooms we have seen, but that could be perfect for a smaller royal household or a monarch who prefers keeping their court meetings a little more exclusive.

There are some thoughtful additions around the edges too, including a podium for addressing assembled Sims and a writing desk tucked beneath one of the windows, giving your ruler somewhere to deal with all that terribly important royal paperwork. Not that they can sit there and write, but storytelling purposes you know? Large floral arrangements soften the pale stone walls, while the green curtains and upholstery bring plenty of color without overwhelming the relatively small space.

I especially like that the creator has embraced the limitations of a turret rather than fighting against them. It shows that your Sims do not need an enormous palace hall to enjoy a convincing throne room. Sometimes all you really need is a throne, a captive audience and enough gold furniture to make absolutely certain everyone knows who is in charge.

Ancestry Throne - cartermade86

Now for something with a completely different royal flavour! This throne room trades the European palace aesthetic for a vibrant room filled with warm reds, natural greenery and African inspired decorative details. The carved wooden throne is raised proudly at the center, backed by a dramatic red canopy and bold patterned wall hanging, with two coordinating chairs placed on either side. Palms wrapped in lights and masses of flowers surround the throne, while the red and cream patterned flooring and central runner draw your eye straight towards the ruler. It feels celebratory and personal rather than overly formal, which makes it stand out beautifully among more traditional throne room designs.

The real storytelling here comes from the room's focus on ancestry. Large framed portraits hang prominently on either side of the throne, and the creator describes your Sim's ancestors as being there to "protect and guide" their dynasty. That opens up some wonderful possibilities for a long running royal legacy save, especially if you replace the artwork with portraits of previous generations as your own dynasty grows.

Decorative pottery, candles, books, flowers and colorful wall hangings add even more personality, making this feel like a room shaped by the history of the family sitting on the throne. After all, ruling a kingdom is one thing, but doing it while generations of your ancestors stare down from the walls? No pressure whatsoever!

This Throne Room certainly understands the assignment when it comes to gold! The creator has gone for a beautifully coordinated cream, champagne and gold palette, giving the room a wonderfully traditional palace feel. At the far end, the throne sits beneath an enormous draped canopy, with twisted columns on either side helping to frame the monarch and make sure there is absolutely no confusion over who everyone has come to see.

A long patterned runner leads towards the throne, while rows upon rows of ornate chairs turn the rest of the room into a proper royal court. There is enough seating here for everything from a coronation to a particularly well attended royal announcement, so this could be a great choice if you enjoy gathering the extended family and assorted nobles together for your storytelling. Again though, a Sim with a dirty plate is bound to appear...

Decorative columns help divide the large space, while floral arrangements introduce just a little greenery and pink to break up all that gold. The framed paintings beside the throne and shields along the walls are lovely additions too, giving you plenty of opportunities to imagine portraits of important figures from your own dynasty hanging here instead. It is grand, formal and unapologetically regal, exactly the sort of room where your Sim can sit upon the throne looking terribly important while everyone else gets the slightly less exciting job of sitting quietly in one of the many chairs.

Throne Room - LucianRM

With its long ceremonial layout and gorgeous emerald green, ivory and gold color palette this is a stand out room. The throne sits proudly at the far end against a rich green feature wall, creating a dramatic focal point that can be seen all the way down the room. A matching green runner forms a path towards it, while classical statues stand between the columns like silent members of the royal family.

I really like the symmetry here, especially with the little pedestals of yellow roses lining the central walkway. It gives the whole space that very formal, carefully arranged feeling you would expect from a palace where every royal entrance is supposed to be an event! I can hear the trumpets!

Stained glass windows bring touches of green, pink and gold into the otherwise creamy walls, while enormous decorative urns, ferns and ornate wall lights help fill the long space without making it feel cluttered. Near the throne, several emerald and gold armchairs create seating for close members of the royal household or especially important guests, with a podium ready for speeches, proclamations and whatever other serious royal business your Sims have planned.

The statues are probably my favorite feature though, as their repetition down the hall makes the room feel almost like a grand palace gallery leading into the throne chamber itself. It is elegant, extravagant and wonderfully ceremonial, with just enough greenery to soften all that marble and gold. There are mirrors on either side of the throne too so your royal Sim can admire themselves out the corner of their eye.

A surprisingly fun thing to note? There is a pink and a blue version of this room on the Gallery too if you are feeling adventurous with your color palette!

In the end, a throne room in The Sims 4 Royalty and Legacy is never just about the throne. It’s about the atmosphere you create the moment your Sim steps inside, the echo of footsteps on marble floors, the way the light falls across the crown, the pause before a decision is made. These are the spaces where legacies are solidified, where drama quietly unfolds, and where your storytelling reaches its most cinematic heights.
