Origin announced that starting 4th of April, people will no longer have an opportunity to Order games in Physical way.
Simmer strawberrikhunnie got an interesting e-mail from EA. Not just that Simmers who Pre-Ordered The Sims 4 Physical on Origin will get a refund, but they will also get a free copy of The Sims 4 Digital Deluxe!
I hardly check my e-mail, but when I do, good things happen and I get things for FREE.
So I pre-ordered the disc version of The Sims 4 because I wasn’t feeling the whole digital download thing. I like physical copies. Physicaaaaal. Haha, anyway, I check my e-mail today and I got an e-mail from Origin saying that my Sims 4 pre-order was successfully cancelled and I’m just sitting there like … . I mean cool, money for groceries but I didn’t cancel it … . and then I get a second e-mail.
Full of AWESOME.

Thanks Shante for the tip!
SimGuruCopeland and SimGuruTatertot shared some fun news about the upcoming Store Venue – Deliciously Indulgent Bakery. Here’s what they have to say about it:
I’m so glad we can start talking about the Deliciously Indulgent Bakery that’s coming in April! I must have added ten pounds just designing this venue. But now that SimGuruTaterTot has posted this exciting new image, let’s grab a cupcake and chat a bit about what all you’re seeing in this picture.
First of all, this is our first look at some of our exciting new Premium Content items, called the Baker’s Bazaar Collection! This includes the Delightful Dessert Display, the Rustic Bakery Rack, the Baker’s Sales Rugs (not pictured) and Sweet Nothing Simoleon Register.
These items allow you to display any food that your Sims can make and sell them similar to the Savvy Seller’s Collection but with a few notable exceptions. To begin with, the Savvy Seller’s Collection restocked items so that Midnight Hollow always had full shelves for your Sims to shop. But with the Bakery it’s your Sims job to create all of the delicious desserts to keep your customers happy. Note that this particular change means that bakeries that aren’t owned by your Sim tend to sell out after a day or so, but that should cut down on too many rival bakers.
Since you don’t want all of that food going bad, the displays are all refrigerated (or in stasis, or using preservatives or whatever helps you feel better about how your food isn’t rotting after a few hours.)
While this venue is a bakery, you can actually sell any food available in the Sims. So if you want to open a Sims Deli, you can make that dream come true!
Making all that food is going to be pretty time consuming, so if you want to hire someone to tend register, you can get that extra help. (FYI: You may notice that we eliminated the notices of Cashiers not being able to make it to work.)
We also have a couple of new rugs that work just like the displays. So you can slide the rugs under counters, tables, etc. and any food placed on top of that item will have all of the sales functionality. This way you can make your bakery your way.
And then there’s the FOOD! Did you see all of that cool new stuff in there? And read all of the Tweets where SimsGuruTaterTot is talking about new recipes that tie directly into the harvestables that shipped with Bohemian Garden? Yeah… we definitely need to grab another cupcake sometime and chat about all of the new food coming with this set. AND the rest of the Premium Content. ‘Cause you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
SimsObjekt and SimTimes are reporting that SimCity FreePlay is on it’s way to Android and Apple App Stores.
We’ll make sure to update you once we find out the release date!
Translated from Deutsch:
This new SimCity mobile game features a system for resource management in which you establish different materials such as wood, stone, concrete, etc., to build buildings or to improve.
In this new SimCity game, you have certain tasks such as the production of resources do to make new buildings and expand areas of the city. The more a building, for example, value (which depends on the income from layer), the longer construction times.
The new SimCity game is offered free of charge. The application also provides the ability to purchase items such as game currency in the game. The in-game currency you can use in different ways. You can use it to shorten the construction time and buy missing resource that you need for the construction and expansion of the areas.
The game builds on the foundation of authentic SimCity brand and has been optimized for mobile phones. This genuine city-building simulation allows you to control your city, manage, edit strategically and tinker it – and the whole thing with a groundbreaking graphics in 3-D quality.
The only 3-D city-building simulation for mobile phones in which it is possible is, your thumb and index finger to zoom in and zoom out and see a 360 degree view. Enjoy the experience, with a tap on the phone to pull up entire buildings. Wherever you are on the go: You decide yourself how long you play.
Starting 4th of April, Origin will no longer provide Physical Copies from the Origin Store. Here’s what they have to say about this:
Starting April 4th Origin will be going all digital. This means the entire Origin game store will be entirely digital downloads for PC and Mac.
What does this mean for you? If you’re among 99% of our users, absolutely nothing. Your shopping experience hasn’t changed one single bit.
But if you’re that 1% who still desires a physical collection, we want to let you know that Origin won’t be able to fulfill that need beginning April 4th. We’ll still be here when you transition your gaming habits to the wonders of digital downloads.
Digital is fast and convenient. Origin’s focus is to give gamers the best experience, and going all-digital will make that possible.
Origin has decided to be very generous to their users. They’re deciding to giveaway 1 game/expansion pack every once in while!
Right now, they’re giving away Dead Space. Click Here to claim it while the offer lasts (due 8th of May).

About ‘On the House’
Free?! What’s the catch?
There’s no catch. Grab full games, expansions and more at absolutely no cost. Just make sure to act fast because On the House specials can appear and disappear at any time.
You mean a trial or demo, right?
Nope. You’re getting a full version of the real game — for free!
How long will I own the game?
Once you’ve claimed your game, it’s yours to keep!
Why is Origin doing this?
We’re gamers, too. We appreciate you making Origin your gaming home … and besides, who doesn’t like free stuff?

Hello again, Mayors – I’m Guillaume Pierre, the Lead Gameplay Scripter and a designer on SimCity. You may have read the recently published SimCity Modding Policy postedhere and have wondered how to make Mods yourself.
Today I’m going to talk about a few Mods I’ve been working on. I hope this helps you make your own. Please note, these Mods are to be used strictly at your own risk, as they don’t go through a testing process like an official game update would. As you may already know, there is no official SimCity Mod tool set, so I’ve used a third-party service,Oppie’s SimCityPak tool*.
The Extended Worker Data Mod
Have you ever wondered how many jobs of each wealth level a work building supports? This Mod adds three bars to the civic, commercial and industrial buildings rollovers that gives you just that information. It will also help you make informed decisions in regards to zoning for residential buildings.
In order to make this Mod, I created a new piece of UI with a matching data binding function. Fortunately, there was already an example similar to what I wanted to do in the MegaTower Office level rollover, so my first task was to copy the layout with the three bars into a new file.
I then looked up how the worker data was fed into the bars in the rollover, and copied that piece of JavaScript into another file. Because of the way the UI is packed in the game, I had to find a JavaScript file that is packed by itself rather than add the function to the main (and very long) UI file. To do this, I opened the Mayor Rating UI file and pasted the code at the bottom of it. I renamed the original “kSkyTowerLevelOfficePopulation” function to “kWorkers” and encoded it to “0xe15027f1”.
Finally, I went through all the units in the game that have workers (I actually looked for the code for “kMaintenance” and combed through the results) and added the new rollover item’s ID to their list of extended rollover data.

The Closer Road Guides Mod
This Mod tightens the distance tuning for road guides, so streets and avenues get placed closer to each other when using guides. As a result, there is very little empty space in the back of each building, so you can get more houses into your city.
You may not want to use this Mod if you turn off guides for curved roads though, as you might not get as many buildings developing.
In order to make this Mod I opened the SimCity game package file and exported a few files, including the global road template which is used by the avenues, and the narrow street definition files. Then I lowered the value of the guide distance (property ID: 0x0ec367af) and saved the files as a new package.

The Purple Line in Industrial Tech Map Mod
This Mod takes the pink and purple lines that go from colleges and universities and directs them to factories and certain power plants that appear in the Industrial Tech Map. This is helpful to predict which factories are going to get skill first, and which ones are going to upgrade next.
In the code, these type of lines are called “pipe overlays”, as they are a visualization definition for agents that use the “pipe” handler. Adding the line that goes from the college to medium tech factories, and the line from the university to high tech factories was straightforward. I added a new property array listing them in the data map file and that took care of it.
The other lines were a little more complex to get working. First I had to create new pipe overlay files for the lines coming from the college and university to the lower tech factories, and to power plants by copying the original pipe overlay files. Then I made these new overlay files point to their correct pipe sinks. Finally, I added references to the new files in the same array as the original overlay files in the data map file so they all show up in game and provide context as designed.

That’s it for this time! I can’t wait to see what kind of amazing Mods you’re going to create. As always, I’m available to answer questions regarding this blog in the comments section below, on Twitter at @MaxisGuillaume, and in the Community-Generated Content section of our forums (http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/forums/show/4227.page).
The last TS4 Game Developer Conference Session is here, bringing some helpful tips on how The Sims 4 is built.

One part of the presentation talks about Cutscenes in The Sims 4. Does this mean that the long awaited cutscenes from The Sims 2 will make their return?

Rebecca Fernandez, Game Developer Conference attendee, posted a screen from the ”Multi-Actor Behavior Sequencing in The Sims 4” presentation. We should expect more screens and info from that presentation next week on gdcvault.com. Until then, enjoy this screen 🙂
Yeah, Sims 4 programming talk. #GDC2014

A sim’s ability to perform more than one task at any given time helps make the character feel more natural, according to software engineer Peter Ingebretson during a recent Game Developers Conference 2014 panel.
In “Concurrent Interactions in The Sims 4,” Ingebretson explained that Maxis’ goal with the upcoming game was to make it “the most natural iteration” of the series. Part of this required implementing one of the series’ most frequently requested features: multitasking.
“When we looked at the sims and tried to decide what would make them feel more natural and more believable, one thing that we realized is that in the real world, people do things at the same time all the time,” Ingebretson said. “For instance, people stand around in a bar drinking drinks, sitting down. Sometimes people will stand and sit and talk to each other. It seems very natural when characters in a game can multitask.”
According to the software engineer, multitasking gives the illusion of doing several things at the same time. It requires less complex demands than actually doingseparate, simultaneous behaviors.
“It also turns out that it’s in some ways realistic,” Ingebretson said. “In the real world, people’s brains work this way. There’s a lot of psychological research that shows people multitask by switching between different things.”
Multitasking, however, can be inhibited by several technical of the game, such as how the sim is positioned or what they’re doing with their hands — this could keep a sim from drinking a soda, for example, or change their options when sitting or standing.
The Sims 4 is expected to launch this fall worldwide for Mac and Windows PC.
