Developers Share New Info On Adventure Awaits In The Imaginary Friends Q&A
The latest Expansion Pack, The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits, launches in just under a month on October 2nd. In the lead-up, developers are hosting several Q&A sessions on the pack's biggest features over on The Sims' official Discord server.

There are two more Q&As planned for the coming weeks:

Imaginary Friends Q&A
Developer Molly (SimGuruNova) has answered a number of questions submitted by Simmers. Take a look at the answers below!
At what age can we make the Imaginary Friend real?
Once your Child Sim that made an Imaginary Friend ages up to a Teen, if they were good enough friends with their IF, they can offer to make Real on the doll, which allows them to turn their IF into a real Teen Sim. So it's good incentive not to neglect or be mean to them as a kid.
Once turned real Sims, will other Sims be able to see the Imaginary Friend and interact with them?
Yes! They become fully real.
Will imaginary friends, when made real, always retain their consistent look (as seen in the trailer), or will it be randomised?
Each of the four have a unique "Made Real" look that's consistent, based on their original Child (Imaginary) form. i.e. if you make Pretty Pegacorn real, she will always look like this at first. But once made real as a Teen, you can take them into CAS and customize if you wish, just like any other Sim!
How does one make them real, just by clicking on them, or do you need to create a potion or something?
Befriend them as a child, then age up into a Teen, and run Offer to Make Real on the doll!
Are there any unique moodlets/interactions between the sim who can see the imaginary friend with those who can’t?
Yes! Children will get a variety of different buffs/interactions unique to their Imaginary Friend. Other Sims will just see them talking to no one (like a Sim with the erratic trait).
Okay, this is a sort of out-of-the-box question but: considering that there are giant teddy bears in The Sims 4, and child Sims can develop relationships with them, can we offer to turn those teddy bears into Imaginary Friends with the new pack?
Not at the moment. Imaginary Friends can be made from 1 of the 4 ImagineMe! dolls coming with Adventure Awaits! They've been custom-made for arriving from Imaginary Land.
Are the different personality types you can get tied to specific dolls? I’d love to mix and match them.
By default, the IFs have the following personalities:
Lil Monster: Goofball
Pretty Pegacorn: Evil
Krafty Kid: Creative
Wild Child: Competitive
Is the Imagine-Me Doll a build/buy object or does your child get them when they're a kid like in TS3
Build Mode! yes, no limitations, just simoleons haha.
Are adults in the household able to parent the imaginary friend just like any other kid when they become real?
When you turn them into a real Teen Sim, they join the household, but as a roommate. You CAN adopt them into the family if you wish! It's up to you. They will have a randomized name (for a fresh start as a real Sim) but that's something you can always change in CAS to your heart's desire.
Basically like any other Sim.
Is there any way a Sim other than the child who has the IF can see them?
Nope, they are invisible - other Sims will still see the doll sitting on the ground. The Sim who has the IF? The doll disappears when they spawn in their IF, and the actual IF is walking around, interactable, etc.
Will there be any limitations on what they can do once turned real?
Nope, they are a full-fledged real Sim!
My question too. Do you receive it as a gift, can an adult craft them, or can you buy them?
Build Mode! Buy the doll.
I just want to know if they're like Patchy, and if you can have children with them?
When they become real? Sure! They're a real Sim. Just, you know, they have to become an Adult first lol.
In response to the last answer: The baby has a special trait or some powers?
Since the made real Sim isn't an occult, they are just living as a normal Sim. No special trait passed down - It's their chance to finally get a chance to be real Sim after eons of being Imaginary! They're just happy to taste food and touch things for real.
How does each personality impact the child Sims?
The personality will shape their entire set of interactions with the child!
IFs will recommend different activities to do together based on personality - Creative IF will recommend arts and crafts, Competitive might recommend active activities or competitive ones like video games, Evil ones will recommend mischief and other bad behavior!
Also, if you have an Evil IF, the Child can practice Mean interactions on them, strengthening their relationship! The Evil IF will love it, and encourage it. Then, eventually, if the Child heeds the advice of the Evil IF enough, they will gain the Budding Evil Persona trait, which might allow them to discover the Evil trait when they age up to Teen, If they so choose...
Can imaginary friends remain with the Sims once he gets into a Young Adult-Elder stages?
If turned into a real Sim! Otherwise, keeping the doll around has the option of Seeking Comfort from an Old Friend (or Frienemy!), giving mood bonuses based on their relationship with the IF as a child.
Are the IFS customisable in CAS?
Only when turned real. The Child IFs (actual Imaginary Forms) are set based on the doll purchased in Build Mode.
Hi Molly, it's good to see you here! My question is, how autonomous are Imaginary Friends?
They'll suggest things to do together, but will mostly hang around their attached Child! They're there to befriend them, and be there for them, so they'll stick to their person.
Are all their human-form cas pieces available in CAS, even if they're only special unlocks that, for regular buy-mode purposes, would need to be used via cheats? Krafty Kid's entire outfit is adorable.
Their human form outfits are unlockable in CAS if made real (or by cheating! but you didn't hear me say that)
Can you have more than one imaginary friend at the same time?
Not at the same time. One IF per child, and one IF per doll at a time. So, if you are unhappy with your IF - the Child always has the option to Say Goodbye Forever, and you can purchase a new doll to switch it up! (But, how could you!!)
Update From SimGuruNova
For those of you asking about requirements to actually Imagine Up the imaginary friend as a Child (i.e. turn the doll into the IF)
Here's the full process of Build Mode to IF: Buy the doll from Build Mode. The Child then can play with the doll as normal! Tell it secrets, pour their heart out, carry it around, etc. There is a requirement to make them into an IF:
Reach Creativity Level 3,
Befriend the doll (as you play with it or talk to it, you will gain relationship! visible in the rel panel),
Or, be suffering from loneliness, so much so that the Child needs a friend now.
Then, they can turn the doll into their IF.
Oh and also - Evil IFs can teach children how to set fires.
Oh and one thing to note: Personality and names can be personalized on the dolls UNTIL you make them into an Imaginary Friend. Once the friend is imagined up, they are locked into that name and personality. But, you can always change things around once they age up to Teen, if made real!
Are those 4 IF designs the only designs? I mean those 4 designs do not have recolours?
Four designs, no recolors this time. We wanted to give a variety of options compared to the single model offered for TS3 imaginary friends - they're reflective of their default personalities and the diverse stories you'd wish to tell with them!
Can you order one as a gift from the phone or computer for your child? Not a fan of buying direct from build mode, but I can always make a retail store if not.
You could tell that story with a retail store!
Can adults with the goofball trait use the IF?
Just Children can imagine up IFs, or see their own IFs. They are invisible to anyone else.
Do the IFs attend high school if made real and added to the household?
These are their teen forms. The Krafty Kid and Wild Child forms haven't been shared yet. Stay tuned!
Will random sims have autonomy to have imaginary friends + make them real or is it just tied to actions YOU do?
Fully player driven. There will not be random IFs running around rampant.
Wait, you can make them real to be actual children, not just teens? A win is a win!
No, when made real, it can only be done with the Child who imaginaed them ages up. And then they become real as a Teen.
Are there any cross-pack features involving IF?
Tons! They will recommend oodles and oodles of activities from across all packs, based on their personality. For example, Creative IFs might suggest cross-stitiching if you own Cottage Living! Or Knitting for Nifty Knitting, etc.
Is there any compatibility with childish Sims? I.e can they maybe have IFs or see them?
Only Children can make IFs, and only the Child that imagines them up can see them!
Closing Statements
Alrighty folks, we've hit the time limit unfortunately!! This went by super super fast. Thank you all for your amazing questions - keep an eye out for the wrapup summary + I will try to provide questions to the answers we didn't quite get to yet for that, if possible.
Wrap up summary coming soon! Stay tuned!

Childish Sims not being able to have a IF is indeed a bit of an oversight and sucks. Otherwise its a step up from Sims 3 Generations that’s for sure.

It would have been cool. And if made real, they could have been their (teen) child, or younger brother/sister. Might have been cute, hah.

On one hand I love that there are different options with different personalities, but on the other hand in a way they seem more basic than TS3. It’s really easy to simify them, and they don’t have any special options once real, unlike 3’s doll form. I also wish they didn’t try so hard to go against the assumption of which doll would be which personality. I just want an evil creepy looking doll.
Oo.
If the Imaginary Friends are ‘invisible to anyone else’, why CAN’T NPC Sims be able to have their own? It’s not like we’ll see the IFs running rampant, they’re not ours so, we can’t see them!
