The Sims Team has officially announced the next game pack coming to the game. The Sims 4 Dream Home Decorator will have your Sims embark on an exciting new active career in interior design. Visit clients’ homes, listen to what they want, then make their dreams come true in Build/Buy! We got to see exactly what this new game pack entails in the reveal trailer today and noticed quite a few new objects that are sure to please Simmers with a passion for design!
We are dearly hoping this toaster oven is not just a reskinned microwave or a decor piece but our hopes remain high that this is a functional new appliance considering it slots into a corner counter the same way small appliances do and there is also a microwave pictured in this screenshot. Having two microwaves in your kitchen would be redundant, right?
You can spot the counter cooktop in the first screenshot but we get a much better look at it here. Counter cooktops are something players have been asking for for a long time but up until now, only custom content creators have made it happen. It’s exciting to see these come to the official game for both console and PC players to enjoy. We just hope the cooktop is a separate piece that can be placed on any counter and is not attached to that specific counter.
If we’re getting a stovetop-sans-oven, it only makes sense that we would also get an oven-sans-stovetop. You can see an oven slotted underneath a counter in this kitchen setup with the new toaster oven placed on top. This is going to offer players a lot more versatility in their kitchen builds and we’re excited for it!
It was pretty hard to miss the new sectional seating featured in the trailer. Sectional couches have been something players have been screaming about for years and it sounds like The Sims Team has finally heard our shouts and pleas for this popular item. All we can say about it is… It’s about time!
Although the trailer focused primarily on redecorating people’s homes, we did also see this lounge featured in the trailer. We’re pretty sure it’s a public venue since it’s on the karaoke bar lot in San Myshuno’s Fashion District and there’s a menu hanging on the wall out front. Maybe our interior designer Sims will be able to get jobs for commercial venues as well?
Who could fail to notice this adorable play tent?! Not us! It looks tall enough for both toddlers and children to use and we can see Bob Pancakes interacting with the tent from the outside as well, playing with his son, Iggy. Family players are sure to love having a new toy for their little ones to play with and a new way for adults to play with their kids at home.
Bunk beds are a relatively new addition to the base game but it’s no surprise that new styles of bunks and lofts are being added in DLC packs. We are loving the cool pattern on the bed to the left and the charming rustic style of the bed to the right. You can never have too many bunk and loft beds.
Players have been creating entertainment units using kitchen cabinets, counters, and shelving for years now but sometimes it could look a bit strange having cabinets with dishes and spices in them in the living room next to the TV. It looks like these particular shelving units have been designed with this purpose in mind, however, because these pieces of shelving seem to fit perfectly around this TV and don’t look out of place in a living room setting.
Another common house feature players have been creating for years now but always struggled with a bit was walk-in closets. Most player-created walk-in closets were purely decor and didn’t serve any in-game purpose beyond looking nice. If players wanted their walk-in closets to be functional, they had to place a dresser in the closet, which kind of defeated the purpose of having a closet. The spacious closets added in Get Together provided some functional new gameplay but didn’t offer much customization options. These new walk-in closet pieces look very versatile and will no doubt help players create the walk-in closets of their dreams more easily.
Missed the trailer? No problem! You can watch the full reveal right here!
We’ve got a little bit of a taste of sectional sofas in the reveal trailer for The Sims 4 Dream Home Decorator as you can see below:
Still, many were left wondering if the Sectional Sofas are customizable and not just one-piece objects that you place down from build mode.
In a new screenshot from SimGuruHouts we can definitely see how customizable the new sectional sofas are. In the preview screenshot below you can see that the entire word SOFA was spelled out!
Are sectional sofas a new free update for The Sims 4 Base Game or will they be exclusive to the new Dream Home Decorator Game Pack? Stay tuned to Sims Community to be the first to know!

Say hello to another development team working on The Sims 4 – Maxis Europe!
A few days ago EA Careers website posted a job listing for a Senior Development Director for a brand new studio called Maxis Europe. The locations listed in the job opportunity includes all the Electronic Arts office spaces that are currently located in Europe, including Germany, United Kingdom, Spain, Finland and many more listed below!
The role for a Senior Development Director in Maxis Europe hasn’t been very clear until another job opportunity got listed today with EA’s clear goals and intentions – to expand The Sims 4’s development team and apparently add more workforce to the game!
In the description for the Technical Lead Job Opportunity, EA states that they’re looking to establish a new distributed development team based in the EU region to complement the already existing development team in Maxis Redwood Shores, USA.
The Sims 4 is looking to expand on providing a world-class experience for our players. As part of an initiative to provide broader coverage, we are looking to establish a distributed development team based in the EU region to complement our team in Redwood Shores CA, USA. We are looking for a strong Technical Lead to oversee tech planning and implementation of features/tools and to lead a team of cross-functional engineers.
This wouldn’t be the first time that a Sims Game had two seperate development studios. After the release of The Sims 3 Pets on both Consoles and PC, EA expanded its Salt Lake Studio to work on upcoming Expansion Packs for The Sims 3 including Showtime, Supernatural, University Life and Into the Future. With two different EA studios The Sims 3 was able to push out up to 3 Expansion Packs per year!
Although the definite goal of opening up a Maxis Studio in Europe isn’t know, we can possibly expect a lot more content for The Sims 4 to be pushed out with two development studios working on the game simultaneously – both Free Updates and DLC.
At the moment there are mentions of three seperate Maxis Studios from the job opportunities that were listed over the last couple of months:
It might take a bit for EA to officially announce new developers and gurus joining The Sims 4 Team considering that only leading development roles have been listed. Stay tuned to Sims Community for more information as it develops further!
During the Inside Maxis Livestream The Sims Team shared the news that Bunk Beds will be getting new features in the upcoming free update for The Sims 4!
In the Livestream GrimSuruDoi has showcased all the different possibilities and features that will be unlocked for bunk beds, including:
In the stream The Sims Team has also shown that Sims will once again be able to scoot between different bed slots on a double bed – a feature that was quietly removed a while back.
All of these features are expected to come to The Sims 4 in the next update so stay tuned!
Over the last couple of years The Sims 4 had a good streak of free content updates that are inspired by various cultures. In today’s Inside Maxis Livestream the team confirmed that they’re definitely not stopping with new free cultural content in the game.
The team showed a sneak peek of one of their Work in Progress designs that should be added in one of the upcoming patches for The Sims 4 this year. They’ve also confirmed that representation and free cultural content will be constantly added to the world of The Sims 4. Check out the preview!
I do want to share some concept art for our current Work in Progress design that we are looking to add into the game at a later patch. As you can see we are pretty inspired by Morocco right now and while we don’t have a firm date of release for this item, we are super excited to support for the representation in the Base Game this year and beyond.
– GrimSuruDoi
It’s no secret that the simming community has been very passionate about wanting to add pronouns options to The Sims 4. After several weeks, petitions, comments and more from the community The Sims Team finally addressed the possibility of adding Pronouns to The Sims 4 in their latest Inside Maxis Livestream.
Although they cannot for certain say that Pronouns will be added to The Sims 4, they did confirm that the team has been evaluating new ways of adding gender neutral language and pronoun options in the game while also having the game fully accessible for all 18 supported languages.
You can check out the full transcript from GrimSuruDoi’s statement from Inside Maxis down below:
This is a question that’s certainly been on the minds of the community. I think to start off as an entire team I’d say that when it comes to representation – it’s not a destination. It’s a journey that we’re all continuously working towards across the board. We’ve seen and read your comments regarding pronouns and their availabilty in the game and we hear you.
At this time we can’t confirm anything in regards to timing. What we can say that for a long time our time has been evaluating ways to add gender neutral language while considering how complex it would be to do so. Currently we’ve been investigating changes needed considering not only the size of our game but the possibilities of all 18 supported languages to make sure that we do this work in the best way possible.
This is super important to all of us which means we want to make sure that when we do it – we do it right.
I want to thank you for your continuous support for a truly representative environment in game. We are hopeful for the future. We look forward to sharing progress when we are able to as well as on our future plans for this aspect, and others across the game as well.
The Sims 4 Courtyard Oasis Kit has just been fully released on all platforms – including PC and Consoles!
