Hello Simmers!

We have a small but important update for you to address a couple of critical issues. As well as a “Coming Soon” feature announcement that you can find in The Gallery! We hope you will join in on the fun as we get closer to the 17th! Check out the Gallery for more details!

Happy Simming,
SimGuruGnome Ft. SimGuruRusskii

And now onto the fixes:

Sims 4

  • Fixed an issue with cycling swatch options while using the Numpad + and – keys.
  • Fixed an issue which caused Error 122:324a2e8e to occur.
  • Fixed an issue which caused Error 134:b378c837 to occur.
    • Hello Error 134, was it me you were looking for? I don’t wonder where you are (now) and I don’t wonder what you do (now), I hope you don’t get lonely…
  • Fixed an issue in which when two Households were on Vacation (or one of them were), the messages for Vacation Ending were ambiguous or incorrect.
  • Fixed an issue for Consoles in which the Main Menu became unresponsive when disconnected from The Gallery.
  • Fixed an issue in which if Simmers were offline and they clicked on The Gallery tab or their Profile tab resulted in their contents in My Library would disappear.
    • We turned it off and on again.
  • Made some updates to some of the icons for Off-The-Grid related Moodlets.
  • Fixed an issue in which some floor textures were disappearing if Stilts were put over terrain tiles. Kinda groovy but we had to fix that.
  • Create a Sim asset yfBody_EF18SportStriped_SolidBlueTurquoise has been fixed to avoid clipping with all types of shoes. In the same vein, we fixed a clipping issue when top yfTop_EP03JacketTie_SolidBlueDkBlue is paired with bottom yfBottom_EP02SkirtAsym_Blue (for those who own Get Together and City Living).

Get Together

  • Corrected Residential Lot status of “The Summer Home” Lot in Winderburg. Against all previous evidence, it is actually NOT an Incomplete Lot.

Discover University

  • Fixed an issue in which the game froze when moving to dorms in University of Britechester when giving control to another Sim.
  • The University of Britechester and The Foxbury Institute have now associated some of their Degrees with Freelancer Maker and Civil Designer careers! See you next term Simmers!

Eco Lifestyle

  • Fixed an issue in which the Fabrication sound effect continued playing even after Fabricator had completed its task. Had the Fabricator become sentient… self aware?
  • Sims will now actually receive their inheritance after Marrying within the 7 days as instructed. Marry for love or Simoleons? <insert Telenovela Music>
    Next on Pasión de Simoleones.

    • -”Roberto Alejandro del Valle de la Mancha – I love you, I’m glad we are finally together after numerous Sim days and nights… even at Super Speed 3… it felt like an eternity not being able to tell you about my feelings…”
    • -”Catalina Josefina Martínez Ochoa de la Trinidad, I loved you since you got that phone message saying you had an inheritance coming… my love will be with you always… or at least until my Motherlode cheat stops working and those Simoleons run out…” <looks away>
    • -”Oh Roberto Alejandro… <dramatic embrace>

    Don’t miss our next episode…
    Somebody please stop Russkii.

  • Fixed an issue in which while playing in Low Medium Graphic Settings, doors and windows would not display in Pinecrest Apartments. Where did they go? What secrets have they unveiled?
  • Corrected some terminology related to policies in the Bills and Utilities interface.
  • Fixed an issue in which when zooming in Pinecrest Apartments, you could sometimes see a hole in the ground without textures. Nothing ominous, no… right?

Tiny Living

  • The ‘All Included!’ Lamp With Storage is no more, it has become the ‘Not All Included!’ Lamp Without Storage as our text writer was deceived and the Lamp does not allow a deco slot. Shenanigans!

Everything you need to know about The Sims 4 on Steam

The Sims Team has just expanded their audience onto another new platform – Steam!

For those who don’t know, Steam is a gaming platform for PC / Mac (very similar to Origin) that lets you purchase and keep track of various video games from various developers. From GTA V to new EA titles being transferred over to Steam as well – it’s almost all there! It also serves a purpose of bringing together a community of video game fans with their forums, achievements, trading cards and more.

With the release of The Sims 4 on Steam there have been a few questions floating. I’m going to try to sum up all of the frequently asked questions and answer them below:

What is Steam?

Best described by Wikipedia, Steam is:

…a video game digital distribution service by Valve. It was launched as a standalone software client in September 2003 as a way for Valve to provide automatic updates for their games, and expanded to include games from third-party publishers. Steam has also expanded into an online web-based and mobile digital storefront. Steam offers digital rights management (DRM), server hosting, video streaming, and social networking services. It also provides the user with installation and automatic updating of games, and community features such as friends lists and groups, cloud storage, and in-game voice and chat functionality.

How does this affect current The Sims 4 players on Origin?

The expansion of The Sims 4’s collection over on Steam doesn’t have a single affect on your current preferred platform.

What benefits are there to The Sims 4 arriving on Steam?

There are many gamers out there who prefer playing video games exclusively through the Steam platform. Some even like showcasing their entire video game collection that they have over there considering the vast majority of titles available on that platform.

Steam has a unique way of bringing their community together with user reviews, achievements, trading cards and forums. All of that is now open for The Sims 4 players as well!

Everything you need to know about The Sims 4 on Steam

Which Sims games can I get on Steam?

Right now you can get The Sims 4 and all of it’s Expansion Packs, Game Packs and Stuff Packs, as well as The Sims 3 and all of its Packs as well. There’s also a sale that lasts until July 9th, 2020 where you can get The Sims 4 Base Game for 50% off, Expansions and Game Packs for 30% off and Stuff Packs for 20% off!

Click here to be taken to The Sims 4’s collection page on Steam!

Do I still need Origin / EA Account to play The Sims 4?

Yes. One of the main features of The Sims 4 is the Online Gallery where you can download creations made by other players. Considering that the feature has been built on Origin’s infrastructure and servers, you’ll be needing to create an EA Account and have Origin installed on your computer in order to play.

When launching The Sims 4 via Steam the game will run through Origin (if you’ve already signed in) and Origin’s client will run quietly in the background while you play the game.

But I already have The Sims 4 and all / some of the Packs on Origin…

There’s really no need nor benefits of having The Sims 4 and its Packs purchased on both Steam and Origin. This is once again only a benefit for players who prefer to have their games on Steam.

You won’t be able to transfer over your collection from Origin to Steam. However, if you have The Sims 4 Base Game purchased on Steam and already own Packs via Origin, you’ll be able to have those exact Packs when launching The Sims 4 via Steam.

Got more questions regarding The Sims 4 on Steam? Check out EA’s Troubleshooting EA Games on Steam page!

The Sims 4 and All Packs are Now Available on Steam!

Big news! The Sims 4 and all of its add-on packs are officially available to purchase on Steam!

Having The Sims 4 available on Steam has been highly requested by players since its launch back in 2014, so this is bound to be welcomed news for a large number of Simmers.

Not only that, but the base game and almost all packs are currently on sale on Steam! The base game is 50% off until July 9th, 2020. Expansions and game packs are 30% off; however, Eco Lifestyle is not included in the sale. Stuff packs are 20% off.

If you’ve been on the fence about completing your collection, now might be a good time to do so.

The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting Stuff to bring new Baby Onesies

24

In yesterday’s Deep Dive Blog Post for the upcoming Sims 4 Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack, The Sims Team has revealed that the pack will also come with some new onesies for babies!

We want Sims to be able to knit something for their whole family. Not only will Sims be able to knit Toddler Onesies, but Baby Onesies as well. So put your little grubworm in a handmade knitted outfit. I’m sure they’d thank us if they could! (And if they didn’t like it I’m sure they’d be polite about it.)

The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting Stuff to bring new Baby Onesies

Considering that clothing for the Babies Life State was never something you were able to choose before in The Sims 4, many were wondering if this was leading up to some other improvements for this life stage. However, SimGuruSarah was quick to confirm that we shouldn’t expect the pre-Stuff Pack Base Game Update to include any Baby Overhauls or improvements to the table, saying:

Hey guys, I just want to set expectations here – there are no updates for babies in BG coming with the SP Patch. The only new addition is being able to knit onesies and change the babies into them if you have the Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack. We have more than a dozen baby onesies and they are super cute! Hopefully we can share some screenshots of them in game soon.

Nonetheless, The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack seems to bring already so much to the table with new gameplay and objects, especially considering that this pack will be valued at only 10USD.

Our latest free base game update* in The Sims™ 4 highlights new Sims makeup looks from an iconic brand that shares our values of self-expression and representation for all. Now more than ever, it’s important for us to partner with brands like M·A·C whose inclusive ethos mirrors our own. We worked to develop twelve stunning new looks with the help of M·A·C Director of Makeup Artistry Romero Jennings. If you haven’t already, start experimenting with M·A·C Cosmetics makeup in The Sims 4 today! Find out how to go glam ahead so you can play with style—and play with life.

Official Blog Post: M.A.C x The Sims Collbaboration

Find M·A·C in CAS

Brighten your Sim’s life with colorful makeup. From electrifying eye shadow splatters to two-toned lipstick, explore twelve Sim-sational new looks. The new styles include four eye shadows, two eyeliners, two blushes, and four lipsticks in a multitude of M·A·C-inspired hues. To give your Sim a M·A·C-over, simply go into the makeup category in Create-A-Sim mode. Each look will have the M·A·C logo on it, but to see all of them at once, you can also simply filter by Style —> M·A·C Cosmetics. Ta-da!

Why M·A·C?

Makeup gives people (and Sims) the opportunity to express themselves and be creative. It can transform you into whoever you want to be, or give you the freedom to try something new. Whoever you are—whether you use makeup as a tool for your art or a way to connect with your truth—it inspires playfulness and experimentation. So why not give your Sims the same options?

“We found that our brand identities meshed really well together, and that was reflected in our partnership. It was an absolute joy to collaborate with Romero and the M·A·C team, and for us to figure out how we can best represent M·A·C’s aesthetic within The Sims,” says producer Dana Peterson (aka SimGuruDana), who was the lead on the Maxis side of the project. “I’m so excited to share these fantastic looks with our players and see the Sims they create!”

Romero and the Maxis team developed twelve unique makeup styles for The Sims 4, including a futuristic disc liner look and vivid eye shadow splatter. “I love the art of makeup and allowing myself to self-inspire as I choose colors to mix and customize looks,” Romero said. “There is an emotional connection that occurs once makeup is involved.”

That connection is one of the reasons The Sims and M·A·C first expressed interest in collaborating with each other. “M·A·C and The Sims both empower our communities to be themselves and express themselves however they wish,” Romero pointed out. “M·A·C’s product portfolio and brand ethos is based off of All Ages, All Races, All Genders, and encourages powerful use of your imagination. Self-expression in makeup is huge, and customization through The Sims is just as major.”

See what else Romero has to say ahead!

What inspired you to partner up with The Sims?

“M·A·C is a welcoming home for everyone, and the world of The Sims is just the same. Up until now, The Sims 4 has never partnered with a makeup brand in-game, so it’s an honor for M·A·C to be the very first. When the idea was born, it was kind of perfect for both of our brands!

“We know The Sims players love creating makeup looks, and M·A·C consumers love entering fantastical worlds where they can express themselves. It was a no-brainer! Just as Sims players can create their Sim to fit their mood or suit their personality, we look at makeup the same way. It’s a creative forum that everyone can be a part of, and we are ecstatic to join forces in this way.”

How did you come up with the makeup looks for The Sims?

“As an artist, my inspiration can come from pop culture, street style, fashion week, social media, international travels, nature… just about everything! The looks for The Sims 4 were no different. With the help of our amazing friends on The Sims team, we were able to develop these new looks that you have never seen in-game before.

“It was so exciting to create twelve designs from scratch with focuses that span across natural wearable makeup, desirable trends, bold and vibrant looks, playful exotic designs, looks for the risk-takers, and of course the iconic, timeless beauty that M·A·C is known for. Looks are divided between eyeliner, eye shadow, lips, and cheeks. With each look, players can choose from a variety of colors and, ultimately, mix and match the designs to create their favorite look. There are millions of look possibilities and I can’t wait to see yours!”

How often do you play The Sims?

“Admittedly, I hadn’t played The Sims before I began working on this project, but I of course had known about the game. Confident to say, I am now hooked! I enjoy living and gardening in The Sims world. It’s like I am now trying to catch up on all the years that I missed out on playing The Sims.”

What’s your favorite thing about The Sims?

“I love the incredible variety of options that The Sims provides, from creating your look to interacting in The Sims world. After my experience with the Maxis team, I have such admiration for the way the game and features are created, developed, and brought to life. Everything is so thought out and it’s very visible in the execution of The Sims.”

What advice (about makeup or life, or both!) would you give to players of The Sims?

“My advice would be to play, create, and discover. I see how young children dream and constantly create, which keeps them inspired and gives them the ability to grow. I think many people lose that as they grow up. It’s easy to get stuck in your ways, but I find it so important to keep challenging yourself and continue to make use of your creative outlet. Sims can do that. Makeup can do that. It has the power to transform your look, mood, and confidence.”

Now more than ever, it’s important to remember that while Pride is a time for celebration, it’s also a moment for reflection and solidarity. All of us are facing difficult, emotional challenges in real life right now. The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting: Knitting Deep Dive Blog Post

24

SimGuruConor has released another behind the scenes deep dive blog post that looks at the knitting feature as a whole. Take a look at the blog post in full below.

via The Sims Forums

Welcome back to our latest – and last! – Deep Dive into the gameplay of The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack. I’ve really enjoyed sharing the designs and development of this pack with you, and I hope to continue doing these sorts of posts in the future. It’s been a super cool experience, and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading these!

In today’s post I’ll talk about the feature that is core to everything in this pack, Knitting! Once again, I have to remind you that we’re still in active development on the pack and so some things may change between now and the final game.

Now, let’s talk about some nifty knits!

In order to start knitting, you’ll need to purchase a Yarn Basket from the Build/Buy catalog. You probably remember voting on these baskets a while back. This was the winning design, presented to you now in all its colorful glory! Don’t like color? That’s okay, because we included a solid black and white variant.

The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting: Knitting Deep Dive Blog Post

We have one more knitting basket coming too! Remember this one?

The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting: Knitting Deep Dive Blog PostThe basket acts as the crafting catalyst(neat term, huh?) similar to the Easel or Woodworking Bench in The Sims 4 base game. But unlike those examples, the Yarn Basket is meant to live in a Sim’s inventory so that they can take their knitting anywhere they want to go. Knitting itself is relatively straightforward: click on the Yarn Basket in your inventory, OR, with the basket in your inventory, click on the chair you want to sit in while knitting (perhaps a rocking chair?) and select the Knit interaction.

Your projects are saved to your Sim, so you can pause your progress at any time and resume later, and even juggle multiple projects at once. Starting a project costs a small amount of Simoleons for the cost of yarn, but nothing too outrageous.

vnh4uc8ceiup

(Children can knit too!)

As a Sim levels up their knitting skill they’ll have access to new patterns. They’ll start with knitting socks and beanies, but as they grow more skilled they can tackle more challenging projects like sweaters and toys for kids. But if you only want to specialize in one thing – perhaps knitted mailbox cozies? – that’s fine too! Just keep knitting anything and everything, and you’ll be level 10 before you know it.

Speaking of knitting skill, sometimes your skill is reflected in your knitted work, or rather your lack of skill. Knitting projects can fail, and when they fail they can get weird. But it’s all subjective, and maybe you’ll end up accidentally knitting the cutest derpy companion, or the perfectly itchy sweater. No mistakes, only happy accidents!

The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting: Knitting Deep Dive Blog Post

(Just own it.)

One of the niftiest parts of the knitting skill is unlocking the ability to Teach to Knit, where Sims sit down together and have a knitting pow-wow. We wanted this to feel special, so we got a really sweet animation for it (Thanks Haeju!). Now that you can infect other Sims with the knitting bug, no yarn ball will be safe!

The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting: Knitting Deep Dive Blog Post

(The knitting needles aren’t finished on the Teach To Knit interaction yet, but trust me it’s SUPER CUTE.)

So, what can you do with all these knitting projects? Lots of stuff!

Not only can knitted objects be listed on Plopsy, but you can also Donate them to charity. If you want to surprise a loved one, try Gifting a knitted object too. If you want to destroy all traces of your knitted failures, you can Frog the object and start again! If it’s a particularly nice Sweater that you made, consider Adding it to Wardrobe to make it available in Create-A-Sim to all family members.

The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting: Knitting Deep Dive Blog Post

(Everyone appreciates a nice gift!)

The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting: Knitting Deep Dive Blog Post

(Here’s a sneak peek at some of the concept art for new clothing for the littlest of Sims!)

It also felt like a good idea to add an Aspiration to tie this passion for knitting all together. So if you want to master the fuzzy art of knitting, consider signing your Sim up for the Lord(or Lady) of the Knits Aspiration. With yarn running through your veins, there will be no knitting mountain too hard to conquer! Master the Aspiration and you’ll be rewarded with the Sacred Knitting Knowledge trait. What does it do? Lots of stuff! What does it unlock? Something special! Am I being vague? I am! Come on guys, I can’t share all the secrets quite yet.

The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting: Knitting Deep Dive Blog Post
As I’ve mentioned previously, we’re trying to get as much cross-pack functionality for knitting as we can. Cats can play with Yarn Baskets and Yarn Balls, there will be new Club rules for Knitting, new class electives at University, and knitting counts for Emotional Control, just to name a few. I’m hoping Knitting feels nice and snug alongside our other gameplay systems.

Now let’s have a chat with our lead Object Modeler, Beth Mohler!

Conor: Can you tell us a little bit about what an Object Modeler does on The Sims 4?

Beth: As an object modeler I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to make objects work in The Sims 4. This is actually a very involved process, and somewhat different from the wonderful work our environment team does. We work with designers, concept artists, engineers, animators, vfx artists (basically everyone!) to make sure that Sims can use an object properly in an animation, or that all of our objects will work with each other. Once we understand the design for a new object, we will create a rig, a block model (a very generic version of the object used to help us make more of the same object in the future), and a footprint (tells us where the object can go and how Sims move around it). Once those are tested by animators and other disciplines we can model the final version, create UVs, and add textures. We also hook up and test everything in the game to make sure it all looks good. There is a lot to think about when it comes to making objects because we know players can find so many interesting ways to place and use them in game. That makes it a very fun challenge to make them work with everything else we’ve built before.

Conor: What feature are you most excited to work on in Nifty Knitting Stuff?

Beth: I’d say I am most excited to work on the rocking chairs! I love that we are bringing them to the game and can’t wait to see them in some cozy living rooms or on porches.

Conor: What are some of the challenges you are facing working on this pack?

Beth: One of the biggest challenges is ensuring that the knitting itself looks good and is fun to watch! This is a challenge given that it needs to work for everything you can create. Figuring this out takes a lot of iteration between modeling, animation, engineering, design, and art direction so that we come to a conclusion that will work the best given our time and technical constraints.

Another interesting “challenge” is the fact that I crochet as a hobby myself! When you are knowledgeable about something (yarn!) in real life, working on it in the game it can sometimes be hard to separate the things you know and may expect in reality from what is possible or best within a video game. I have to make sure to keep a balance and to conceptualize how we can best convert the knitting experience into The Sims 4. As someone who also generally enjoys interior design and architecture, this is actually one of my favorite challenges and one of the things I love about working on objects in The Sims 4.

Conor: What is your favorite feature you have ever worked on in The Sims 4?

Beth: I think it has to be a tie between the mini fridge or the robotics table in Discover University. That pack was the first time I got to really take an entire feature from start to finish. I’ve been with Maxis for a while, but I’m relatively new to The Sims 4. Both of these objects had some complex features we wanted that required a lot of iteration. I learned a ton about the technical aspects of our game during the process as well. I’ve also worked on a few very cool things between then and now, but those can’t be shared yet ; )

As a fan of The Sims since the very beginning I am so happy to be able to share a little about what I do on a daily basis on The Sims 4 with you! I haven’t been on The Sims 4 for quite as long overall, but some of you may also recognize me from my time on Sims Mobile where I shared some of our workflows on Twitter for making a juice bar. Thanks!

Conor: You shared a screenshot of the In-Progress Rocking Chair in our Rocking Chair Deep Dive. Can you share an updated screenshot now that the Rocking Chair is further along?

Beth: I would love to! I hope everyone has been enjoying seeing the progress on this object so far! Here it is a little further along. This program allows us to set the rules for the object materials, footprint size and rig it should use, as well as all the color variants and swatch colors you see in the catalog.

Thanks Beth! By the way, Beth is on Twitter @SimGuruBeth, so be sure to Follow her!

And thanks to all of you Simmers for following this pack’s development, this has been a really fun project in a very crazy time. A big thank you to my Stuff Pack teammates, and especially SimGuruSarah who edited my inane ramblings and wrangled the miscellaneous bits for these posts.

While this concludes my design Deep Dives, we still have more forum posts with development insights on the way! Keep checking the Community Stuff Pack forum and we’ll have more fun stuff to show off in the weeks to come.

Until next time,

The Harris Household

Household Description

“Cletus and Faye found this heritage home in Grims Quarry for dirt cheap. Nothing seems wrong with it, and the Harris’ weren’t about to question a good deal. Cletus’ free-spirited mother soon joined them, completing the big, happy family. Mysteriously, their eldest son always wears a shameful bag on his head. Also, it doesn’t seem like any of them other than Faye has a job, but the house is well furnished. What is going on here?”

The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle: All About Community Spaces

Presented by EA Game Changers

The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle comes with a brand new lot type in the form of Community Spaces. In Evergreen Harbor, you will find one in each of the three neighbourhoods but you can also create your own in the other worlds in The Sims 4.

Types of Community Spaces

You will find four different types of Community Spaces in the game. While the default Community Space is a very basic lot type which has one or two objects for your Sims to use it doesn’t offer a great deal at the moment. However, the Community Garden, Maker Space and Marketplace are tailored more towards the needs of your Sims and their respective neighbourhoods.

Community Space – A space full of possibility for use by the local community. Work together as community desires change to make the space fit what the residents want!

Community Garden – Looking for a place to practice growing and cultivating? The Community Garden is the perfect place for neighbours to plant together!

The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle: All About Community Spaces

Maker Space – A community space for making all kinds, where neighbours can gather to craft and recycle goods, or dabble in activities like candle-making, juice fizzing, fabricate, or painting!

Marketplace – A community market where crafters and makers can sell their wares and shoppers can browse them.

Voting for Community Space Projects

The way you decide on which Community Space Project your neighbourhood has is done the same way as you would when you vote for a Neighbourhood Action Plan.

The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle: All About Community Spaces

Simply make your way over to the Community Board and select Check Community Space Projects. You will then be presented with a pop-up that will allow you and others to vote on which community space you would like to see.

The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle: All About Community Spaces

Voting starts at 8 am on Friday and ends at 6 pm on Monday. Once voting ends, your Community Space will then update to the winning one. If you want to vote to change the Community Space, you will have to wait until the next voting period to do so.

Creating Your Own Community Space

Creating your own Community Space is easy and follows the same process as if you were to build any other community lot. When you first chose to build your own Community Space it will automatically select the basic type of Community Space. You will then be able to choose the particular type you want to build as well as adding any Lot Traits you may want.

To complete the Community Space Lot overall, you will need to build something for each aspect of the four different Community Space types.

The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle: All About Community Spaces

You will still have a list of required objects you need to play as well as optional ones that are recommended. Of course, you can add any objects you like to make your Community Space unique and work within the neighbourhood you build it in.

The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle: All About Community Spaces

When creating your own Community Spaces, make sure you place a Voting Board down on the Lot for each of the different Community Space types. This will allow Sims in that neighbourhood to cast their vote. It is advised that you create each different Community Space so that the lot type shows as complete rather than having aspects missing. Of course, you can start with just placing the required items for now and return to a specific Community Space at a later time.

The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle: All About Community Spaces

Community Spaces are a great place for your Sims to hang out, socialise and also build their skills at the same time. Whether you are fabricating items in Evergreen Harbor or selling your creations in Brindleton Bay, a Community Space really helps your neighbourhood come alive!
