The Sims 4 City Living: Neighborhoods, New Objects and More! (Livestream Facts)
SimGuruJill and SimGuruRomeo hosted the latest Sims 4 City Living Stream giving us a whole host of new information! Below is the breakdown of the content we learned about in the stream:
Neighbourhoods
Note: Not all of the things below are exclusive to the areas listed under it’s just where best to use or find them!
Arts Quarter:
Home to the Humour and Hijinks Festival, the bohemian Arts Quarter is beloved by musicians, artists and all manner of creative types.
- The Arts Quarter has an overall Moroccan influence and was inspired by San Francisco. With visually striking structures and colours.
- Includes a New Venue Type, the Arts Centre. The Arts Centre is different from a museum as you can create art there using a painters station, clay, woodworking station and a music centre. An appreciation of the arts area, as such.
- A good place to paint murals, these can be placed on the ground and on the walls as long on a buildable lot or street. They can also be resized using the size up/down cheat. Increases the painting skill. These can also help in the Politics Carrer if you want to leave your mark in the world.
- A perfect place to sell art using the new object Street Gallary. You carry the street gallery in your inventory and take it anywhere to set up shop and sell your pictures and paintings!
- Craft Sales Table, another new object. Same as the street gallery, you can sell objects on the street. If the item can go into your sims inventory, you can sell it on the table. For example frogs, wood worked items and children can sell lemonade!
- Street performer. The Living statue is one of the street performers you can meet on the streets of San Myshuno. To watch them just click on the performer and select the option to watch. From there you can Wave, Scare, Tease and Tip the performer! A little fun thing is that when you tip the statue they will gift you with a golden street performer outfit plus, once you equip, can earn tips yourself! The outfit comes in an astronaut and a cowboy design.
Myshuno Meadows:
While not directly a neighbourhood, this is the new park included in San Myshuno. I gave it a mention because it works like the bluffs and ruins in Windenburg, so a special venue/lot type. It’s a 64×64 lot so gives builders lots of space. It comes with a wedding venue built in, while not a new venue type it’s more the park dressed ready for a wedding to take place. Also, here we got to see a new object which is Fireworks! Fireworks can be timed to go off when a certain event occurs say, for example, if in the vicinity of a wedding when the couple kisses fireworks will shoot up!
Spice Market:
A family neighbourhood famous for its Spice Festivals, Flea Market and dockland views.
- Cheapest place to live
- Seatle inspired
- Includes the New Basketball Object. The footprint and the hoop itself are separate objects so you can have a hoop inside an apartment.
- Has New Object the Performance Base. Can be used to busk if you have either a Guitar or a Violin in your inventory and are around level 3 or 4.
- Also has a Karaoke Venue.
- Flea Market: You can sell items which you no longer want. Also, they pop up randomly and you can buy cheap but maybe not so good quality items.
Fashion District:
Popular with young and trendy Sims, the Fashion District is also home to the Romance Festival and GeekCon.
- Not too expensive
- Tokyo-inspired deco, with a Zen garden
- Home to the New Karaoke Venue. Here you can work on your singing skill and have a fun time out with friends!
Uptown
The luxurious heart of the City, Uptown is home to the rich, powerful… and slightly odd.
- Has a Gym Venue
- Where you can find the New Speech Podium. Any Sim can make a speech!
- Floating above San Myshuno
- Most expensive place to live
Objects
Food Carts: Now these carts aren’t a permanent item. They disappear and re-appear randomly. The types of carts we know so far are Chinese, Mexican, Sushi, Ramen, Indian, American Food, Tea and Hot Drinks, Filipino, Vietnamese. Also, located Uptown, we have Uptown Food Stall, Uptown Japanese Food Stall and Uptown Cupcake Stall (Item Description: Uptown Sims get a stall that serves cupcakes. Of course they do). Also, you can hire NPCs to staff them.
Memorial / History Plagues: They contain historical information about the area your Sim is in. There are 6, and once you read all 6 you get an achievement.
Snow Globes / Posters: Each festival has one, in boxes around the streets. They are collectables like elements or my sims statues.
Dynamic Sign: How to get notifications on the festivals currently going on! It glows to let you know.
Chair: The first plastic folding chair!
One Tile Desk: Perfect for those small homes.
Art: Lots of new paintings and wall decorations.
Sim Options
New Death: There is a new way to die in City living and that’s through food poisoning. More specifically, when you eat a puffer fish dish. When your Sim consumes a puffer fish dish they have a chance to be hit with a status effect and then die.
Sim Interactions: Your Sim can learn a little more about the area they in by clicking on the Sim and selecting the option ‘Read Guide Book About…..’ They can also ‘Practice Singing’ and ‘Sing Song’.
New Aspiration: Catagory – Location. ‘City Native: This Sim is all about the city life.’ This guides you through the new content, painting murals, criticising things and going to festivals!
New Traits: Vegetarian, with this one if your sim eats meat they will become uncomfortable. Also the Unflirty trait, a throwback to The Sims 3.
New Careers: Art Critic – Go around and critic art at festivals, centres and museums. Political Career. Giving Speeches and work your way up to rule the world.
Strange Sims: 2-6 am in game time, all the strange sims come out. The Racoon picks fights, you’ll see old people in pj’s and a guy in a wrestling mask running around.
New Radio Station: Cultural Station, Japanese style music.
New recipes: To learn you need to eat the food at stalls and festivals. There are 25 or so in all.
Basketball: Win 73 basketball games and you win a trophy

The Sims Blog: 9 Cool Things You’ll Find Exploring the City of San Myshuno
Via TheSims.com!
San Myshuno isn’t just a neighborhood or a place for your Sims to live in The Sims 4 City Living* Expansion Pack (coming November 1st!) – it’s an entire character by itself. We wanted San Myshuno to have as much character as our favorite cities in the world, so that when Sims go there, you can say “wow, that is new!” Let’s talk about some of the cool, weird things you’ll find exploring the city of San Myshuno!
Hit the Festivals! You may or may not know that San Myshuno is a city with festivals! Festivals are like venues that come and go, bringing with them new game-play, new stories, and new contests for your Sims. Festivals are perfect for foodies, lovers, geeks, and even those who love hunting for a good deal. Every neighborhood has a different festival, so send your Sims outside to join in the fun before they close!
Try new foods. We wanted to make San Myshuno a diverse city with interesting cultures, and the most delicious part of culture is food! San Myshuno introduces food stands with dozens of new recipes. Plus, to make it a little easier, your Sims can learn the recipes just by sampling, which pairs perfectly with our new City Native Aspiration. Your Sim can really get out there and sample the world’s delicious cuisine!
Grab some swag. Festivals are fun, but what is the point in going if you can’t take something awesome home? Don’t worry, we got you covered. Festivals all have Swag stalls to sell t-shirts, unique spices, special fireworks, and more to your Sims. Bring a few extra Simoleons and send them home with something that says “I was there!”
Collect snow globes! People throw junk out all the time in the cities, but one Sim’s junk is another Sim’s treasure! Keep your eyes peeled for cardboard boxes on the streets. Your Sims might find snow globes to complete the new collection.
Shoot some Hoops. We’ve wanted to add the basketball hoop for a long time, and San Myshuno is the perfect setting for this object. Your Sims can head to the court in the Spice District, or build one in their penthouse high rise, to shoot the hoops with friends after work. Basketball is the perfect way to burn a few calories gained eating samosas from the food cart, and to make new friends!
Meet interesting new Sims. San Myshuno is filled with fascinating people. There are buskers hoping your Sims will spare a few Simoleons in tips. There are living statues who may, or may not, be convincing. There are tourists bumbling about. You might meet the next Sim that’ll be your Sim’s next roommate, or even soulmate. Or, perhaps you’ll encounter a bizarre…trash panda? We’ve said too much. Let’s just say that San Myshuno is full of interesting Sims!
Try out Graffiti. We always want to give Sims a way to express themselves and affect the world around them, which made murals a perfect addition to San Myshuno. Sims who love to paint can shake their spray can to add graffiti, a beautiful community mural, or even deface something that a rival painted. Don’t settle for bland concrete when there are all the possibilities of a mural at your Sims’ finger tips!
Master Karaoke. We’re introducing the Singing Skill in The Sims 4 City Living, which means you may hear Sims singing joyfully, or badly, out on the street corner. Send your Sims to join with the sing along, or send them to the nearby Planet Sing-Pop Karaoke bar. Either way, music is in the air…. even if it’s sometimes off-key.
Stand for a cause. Your Sims can try out three new careers in San Myshuno, including the Political career, which is perfect for Sims with a cause in their hearts and a sign in their hands. Sims can protest on the streets of San Myshuno, or if they move up in the career, they can give speeches to the crowd from their podium. Spread the good word and make the citizens of San Myshuno more conscious.
San Myshuno is a vibrant urban environment and the crown jewel of The Sims 4 City Living. We cannot wait until your Sims move into the city and hit the sidewalks to learn about all the content we’ve jam packed on the pavement, on November 1st 2016.

OPINION: The Sims 4 City Living Goes Against The Sims’ Philosophy
City Living is the most glaringly problematic pack thus far in The Sims 4
If you were to ask any simmer why they love The Sims, they would most likely tell you because of the freedom it allows them to do whatever they want. Whether it’s creating sims, building lots, or living out their sim’s lives. It’s the freedom, the creative abilities, the customization. This has always been the philosophy of the Sims series and why players have always come back, series after series, game after game.
That is, until Sims 4 City Living came along. The initial announcement showed off impressive apartments, cultural events, many returning activities from past games in the series, it seems like a really promising expansion in terms of deep gameplay, something Sims 4 has sorely been missing since its release two years ago. Then came the finer details of the pack through tweets and forum posts by the Gurus. One tweet the fans hard. This tweet right here:

As if that wasn’t a big enough shock to the playerbase. Enough of a kick to the shins to builders. Enough of a warning sign for players to head for the hills. We were then double whammied with this follow up tweet:
So not only are players barred from building their own apartments, but they’re also barred from adding apartments to any of the other worlds in the game, past or future. I’ve played Sims since the very beginning. I own every game released. Never have I seen something so against the philosophy of the Sims than this. All throughout the life of the Sims series we’ve always been able to create every single type of lot introduced. Even when shells were introduced in Sims 3 we were still able to create our own innards of them. We could make our own apartments in Sims 3 Late Night. We could build our own performance venues in Sims 3 Showtime. We could build our own interactive classrooms in Sims 3 University Life.
No matter what they introduced, they always found a way to do it in such a way that they stuck to their vision, but also allowed us to create our vision as well. City Living goes completely against this. The Sims Team stuck to their vision all right, but they removed any and all chances that we could stick to ours as well. They tried to merely write it off as a worthwhile decision because they’re so unique and fun and they “look better this way.” I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather be able to build my own apartments and put them in whatever world I want rather than have “pretty shells.”
The fact of the matter is, no matter how fun this new apartment system may be, it will get boring quickly. It’ll get repetitive. It’ll get stale. No matter how fun they are, the apartments in City Living are minimal. We’re only going to get a handful because each world in Sims 4 never has many lots available. And what we get is it for the entirety of Sims 4. We can’t make them ourselves. We can’t download player made ones from the gallery. None will ever come in future packs as it’s an expansion-exclusive feature. So while they may be fun and exciting when the game first comes out, just know that they’re all we’re going to get, forever. So once you get bored of the available apartments, that’s it. Forever.
After watching the latest livestream for City Living, I’m even more confused as to why we can’t build our own apartments, or what they even mean by that phrase now. Penthouses are literally regular lots of any type (residential, club, park, etc.) on top of a giant world object no different than if they were placed on any other world lot. We can build anything on them, and we can download lots from the gallery to place on them. So clearly these don’t function as apartments, they’re just houses really high in the world.
The brownstone they showed off looked like it functioned exactly like the apartments in Sims 2. By that, I mean it had legitimate apartments and families you could visit, albeit after going through a loading screen instead of random sims popping out after knocking on the door like Sims 3. If an expansion from 2008, made for a base game made in 2004, could give us legit apartments that we could build ourselves, how is it that an expansion in 2016 for a base game made in 2014 can’t? It’s nonsense. I’d really like to see the inner workings of these lots so I can understand why exactly we can’t build our own because they look exactly like normal lots in Sims 4 and normal apartment lots in Sims 2, that we could build. I have so many questions after that livestream.
This is an extremely problematic sign for things to come. The team clearly has no regard for the philosophy of the Sims series. They have no regard for the freedom of the player. They’re going to continue making the game however they want, no matter how much it limits the player. We saw warning signs of this in Get Together when we couldn’t change the lot type of the Von Haunte Estate, then again in Dine Out when our sims were only allowed to hire employees, they couldn’t cook and wait tables themselves. But the apartment system in City Living is the most glaring example of this lack of freedom thus far in Sims 4, and it doesn’t bode well for the future of the game. At all.
So no matter how fun the apartments may be, it wasn’t worth it.

The Sims 4: How to get Sugar Skulls for the Day of the Dead Event!
In the new update published Tuesday 27th September, Sugar Skulls have been added as a collectable to The Sims 4! There are 10 to collect and this is how you get them.
First, you’ll need a grave. This can be any sims. (Note: you can only do this during the night) Then you can click on the grave and select the option ‘Leave Sugar Skull Offering’.

This might take a few tries (And it has a cool down) however when it succeeds the grave will glow and your sim will cheer. After that you’ll get a notification announcing ‘the ancestors have heard your call and sent a Day of the Dead celebrator to roam the neighborhood’

It might take a couple of minutes to find them, but somewhere in your current neighbourhood will be a sim wearing Day of the Dead face paint and clothes. Also, if you hover your mouse over the sim, they have a title saying ‘Day of the Dead celebrator’.
It doesn’t seem like this job is given to one sim, it might be any pre-made sim within the world. (For example, here Max is given the job. But in your neighbourhood it might be someone else)
One you have found the celebrator, simply click on them and ‘Ask for Sugar Skull’.
After a small conversation, your sim will automatically get a skull in their inventory.

The command does have a cool down so make sure to come back later for more skulls! (This applies even if you have more than 1 member in your household, only 1 sim may ask for a skull then you have to wait for the cool down)!
