8 Things You Might Have Missed in The Sims 4 Star Wars Pack Reveal!

In case you missed it, The Sims 4 has announced the next game pack making its way to the series and, suffice it to say, we didn’t see this one coming. The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu promises to be a wild space adventure completely immersed in the theme of the hugely popular Star Wars franchise.

There’s no question that Star Wars fans are going to find lots to love in the reveal trailer, but having next to no knowledge of Star Wars, myself, I wanted to take a deeper look into the trailer to see what this new game pack might be able to offer to Simmers who might not be familiar with the plot, setting, and characters from the Star Wars films.

So without any further delay, let’s dive deeper into the reveal trailer for The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu!

A New World

8 Things You Might Have Missed in The Sims 4 Star Wars Pack Reveal!

Okay, okay, so the new world of Batuu was pretty hard to miss. Most of the trailer shows scenes of Sims in the world of Batuu, after all, but after examining the landscape and scenery found within the world, it looks like we’ll be getting a new desert-themed world. Currently, The Sims 4 only has two desert worlds; Oasis Springs and StrangerVille and we don’t yet have any desert worlds as vacation destinations. Offering a third option for more arid climates will surely appeal to plenty of Simmers whether or not they’re Star Wars fanatics.

New Occult Sims???

8 Things You Might Have Missed in The Sims 4 Star Wars Pack Reveal!

Okay, so we’re not totally certain there will be new occult types coming in Journey to Batuu, but there is no mistaking the number of Sims in the trailer who look well… not human. Are they new types of “supernatural” Sims or are these simply some fun new costumes? Only time will tell, but this Star Wars newb is dearly hoping for some new occult gameplay.

New Face Details?!

8 Things You Might Have Missed in The Sims 4 Star Wars Pack Reveal!

Who loves new tattoos? WE DO! In the trailer, a Sim can be seen with some kind of marking on his cheek, just under his eye. If this is indeed a tattoo and not face paint, this would be the first add-on pack for The Sims 4 to add facial tattoos to the game.

Robot Companions

8 Things You Might Have Missed in The Sims 4 Star Wars Pack Reveal!

Many Sims in the trailer can be seen with little robots resembling the beloved Star Wars character, R2D2, trailing behind them. Simmers who own Discover University might compare them to the Utili-Bots our Sims can build, but R2D2 is no housemaid! Perhaps these new robots on Batuu will act more like companions than a free cleaning and repair service?

A Story Mode?

8 Things You Might Have Missed in The Sims 4 Star Wars Pack Reveal!

The Sims 4: StrangerVille was the first game pack for The Sims 4 to have a linear story for your Sims to play through. In the reveal trailer for Journey to Batuu, we can see R2D2 electrocuting a storm trooper to help his Sim companion access some kind of forbidden area on Batuu. It certainly seems like it would fit the theme of Star Wars to have our Sims embark on quests and adventures while in the world of Batuu.

New Drinks

8 Things You Might Have Missed in The Sims 4 Star Wars Pack Reveal!

At the bar on Batuu, we can see some new and interesting beverages being served up and enjoyed among the patrons. Some of them have interesting effects like smoke rising up from the glass.

New Collectibles

8 Things You Might Have Missed in The Sims 4 Star Wars Pack Reveal!

Throughout the trailer, we spotted several small objects that look like they could be part of a new collection. Avid collectors in the game might find Journey of Batuu worth their while to go hunting for new treasures and trinkets to display around their Sims’ homes.

Cars! Er… Flying Cars???

8 Things You Might Have Missed in The Sims 4 Star Wars Pack Reveal!

Simmers have been begging The Sims Team for cars since the game’s initial release back in 2014 and while we still don’t have cars, we might be getting vehicles of the flying variety? This spacecraft (which I’m told is called the Millennium Falcon; thank you, Star Wars fandom) was featured prominently in the reveal trailer and it looks like the Sim in the trailer has accepted some kind of mission to gain possession of this craft. Will it play a part in a larger storyline? Will our Sims actually be able to drive it? Stay tuned to find out!

Did you spot anything else in the trailer that got you excited? Tell us all about it here in the comments or come chat with us on social media!

The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu comes to PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 8th, 2020.

In a galaxy far, far away, deep into the Outer Rim, the world of Batuu spins under its three suns, host to both the brave Resistance and nefarious First Order, with roguish scoundrels taking advantage of the chaos. How things unfold, though, is up to your Sims in The Sims™ 4 Star Wars™: Journey to Batuu Game Pack*, available on September 8!

Experience the Edge of the Galaxy

From the moment Sims arrive on Batuu, they’ll be surrounded by the sights, sounds, and smells of Star Wars™. Majestic petrified trees rise high over the settlements and ships pass overhead, engines whining. Black Spire Outpost hums with activity as alien locals and busy droids go about their days. Vendors serve up Ronto Wraps and Fried Endorian Tip-Yip to hungry Niktos and Rodians. Curious Abednedos, Mirialans, and Twi’leks browse the wares at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. Sims might recognize a certain infamous ship, the Millennium Falcon™, or hope to escape the notice of patrolling stormtroopers. But once they arrive, they’ll never want to leave.

Earn a Reputation

The tension between the factions on Batuu is evident. Stormtroopers patrol the streets, searching for evidence of the hidden Resistance, and rebels carry out secret plans from their mysterious bunker. Even the smugglers operate a lucrative business, staying neutral to take advantage of both the Resistance and the First Order. So, which will your Sim join?

DJ R-3X, the droid in charge of the music at Oga’s Cantina, is the best point of contact for learning about the different factions. At first, missions will be simple, sending your Sim off to rifle through supply crates or chase rumors about the growing Resistance presence. As a result of completing a mission, Sims collect rewards—and earn reputation points with the associated faction. Increase your Sim’s reputation to rise through the ranks, from sympathizer or supporter to sergeant of the Resistance or First Order. If galactic credits motivate your Sim more than ideals, the scoundrels are always looking for assistance—that’s just good business.

As your Sim’s reputation grows, it also affects the way locals react to them. A Sim highly regarded by the First Order will find it difficult to chat with Resistance supporters. Climbing the chain of command by completing missions also begins to introduce new faction contacts. Depending on the choice your Sim makes, they might encounter Vi Moradi running a mission, Rey practicing with her lightsaber, Kylo Ren losing his temper, or Hondo Ohnaka cheating at a game of sabacc.

Official Blog Post: Plot A Course to Batuu!Acquire Artifacts and Treasures

It wouldn’t be Star Wars™ without lightsabers and droids. On Batuu, Sims can find parts for their own lightsabers! Take a trip to Savi’s Workshop to see a few of the hilt and kyber crystal options, or complete missions to earn rare pieces as rewards. Try different crystals until you find the one that is right, and once it’s done, start training! Practicing with a lightsaber or sparring with other Sims builds the Fitness skill, too.

Need a friend on Batuu? Why not a droid?! Just collect scrap metal from scrap piles around Batuu and earn enough galactic credits, then purchase a droid from the Droid Depot, where they offer both R- and BB-series astromech droids. Once Sims have customized their droid, give it a name and watch it go! Your Sim’s new buddy will follow them everywhere on Batuu. Plus, droids are helpful on missions. They can use their scanners and electro-prods to assist Sims by searching crates, scrambling control panels, or distracting rival faction members. These are the droids you’re looking for!

Bring It Home

When your Sim returns from Batuu, they won’t be coming back empty-handed. Enjoy Star Wars™ inspired updates in decor, home design, and even recipes. Whether Sims display the antiquities they collected on Batuu or revamp their style completely to imitate the dwellings of Black Spire Outpost, they don’t have to leave their Star Wars™ adventure behind. Invite neighbors over for a game of sabacc or a lightsaber sparring session whenever you like.

Plus, any droids ordered on Batuu return to the Sims world as well! Sure, droids might not go around zapping people in Willow Creek, but Sims can still build relationships with them and have fun driving them around with a datapad!

Origin Access and EA Access have a new name – EA Play

6

EA has announced that they’ve made a name change for their subscription service known as EA Access (for Xbox One and PS4) and Origin Access (for PC). The new name for their subscription is now called EA Play and EA Play Pro.

Everything else remains pretty much the same in terms of the subscription pricing and offers you get with this service. Also, don’t get confused with their official gaming event which now has a slightly different name – EA Play Live.

The change that EA has been recently doing could be because of their rebranding and the upcoming changes coming to Origin, which you can check out HERE!

eaplay preannounce featured image

The EA Access and Origin Access subscription game services will be getting a fresh new name and look starting August 18. EA Access and Origin Access Basic will become EA Play*, and Origin Access Premier will change to EA Play Pro. All the great benefits you love (access to a library of top titles, early game trials, and your 10% membership discount) aren’t going anywhere. In fact, we’re adding even more in the coming months, starting with exclusive in-game challenges and monthly reward drops for members on select titles.

Why EA Play?

EA Play puts you at the center of the experience. Moving all the benefits to a single brand is an important step in streamlining our services to ensure that being an EA Play member is the best way to play.

What Do I Get with EA Play?

As we mentioned earlier, members will be able to access exclusive in-game challenges and rewards, unlock special member-only content, play early trials of brand-new titles, get instant access to a collection of our best-loved series and top titles, and save 10% on EA digital purchases, from full games to DLC. But what do we mean by exclusive challenges, rewards, and content?

That will vary from title to title, but we’re talking things like early access challenges and rewards like Ultimate Team Packs, exclusive vanity items and cosmetics, and more. Make sure your EA Account email preferences are switched on so you’ll be the first to know what’s available with your membership on your favorite upcoming titles like Madden NFL 21, FIFA 21, and Star Wars™: Squadrons. You can also visit our game websites and the EA.com News page for updates.

What About the Annual EA Play Event?

You may be familiar with the annual live event previously called EA Play, which also has a new name, EA Play Live.  It’s a showcase dedicated to sharing the latest EA news and game updates with our global community. EA Play Live includes a multitude of experiences from world premieres and game updates, to fun ways for players and community to interact with EA’s hit games.

Update 8/18/2020
PC: 1.65.77.1020 / Mac: 1.65.77.1220
Console: Version 1.30

Spark’d Season One has come to an end, Spark’d Wedding Destination Challenge submissions have closed and you have picked your favorites, and we released the community voted pack – Nifty Knitting. Now we find ourselves here with a small update to tackle some issues including those that you reported to us after Nifty Knitting released.

SimGuruRusskii

Now onto the fixes:

Sims 4

  • We have once again vanquished yet another villainous version of Error Code 134. This time it is Error Code 134:64b8a94a, distant cousin of the original Error Code 134.
  • What is Error 134? Baby don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me… no more.
  • Fixed an issue related to curvature points on Roofs. They should work better now.
  • Controller layout screens have been updated to reflect the additional controls used in the Spark’d Challenges tabs in The Gallery. So many buttons, so much to see and do.
  • Fixed an issue that generated an error message when submitting an item to Spark’d Challenges from Player’s catalog.

Cats & Dogs

  • Retrained our good Doggos and Cattos so that they can eat also not on command. So they will no longer eat only when they are told. Give them all the treats anyway – they are such good bois and girls!

Eco Lifestyle

  • Fixed an issue where NPC Sims would continuously steal objects from Lots without having the Kleptomaniac Trait. They were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.
  • Fixed an issue in ‘Green’ Lots that did not allow Aurora Borealis and other phenomena to display. I’m glad we fixed this, now enjoy what nature has to offer.

Dine Out

  • Fixed an issue that made some drinks and food options be duplicated, or go missing, on restaurants’ menus. I’m all for more of everything, but this seemed a bit extreme, though double coffees… mmm coffee…

Nifty Knitting

  • Fixed an issue that prevented PlayStation 4 and macOS players from applying the unlockbytag SP17 successfully. All the knits belong to you.
  • Sims will no longer constantly knit autonomously. Ok now, we know knitting is wonderful, but there IS a thing like too much knitting. *distant chants of ‘That’s right!’*

Xbox One

  • If you subscribe to EA Access you may notice the logo displayed on the pack information screens is now displayed as EA Play as part of a rebrand of EA’s subscription.

Origin is getting a New Look soon

3

EA has announced that their Origin platform will be getting a brand new look soon!

In an announcement post that they’ve made they revealed that they’re rolling out a Closed Beta program for the brand new version of the Origin client. I’ve signed up for the beta but according to the site, registration is open only for Origin Access members.

For a sneak peek of the new design as well as what the new Origin update will bring, check out the official announcement below:

Origin Players,

You’ve spent countless hours playing inside of Origin over the years; thank you. You’ve also given us a ton of feedback on what players like you want – a fast, reliable platform that enables you to jump into the games you love easily, connect with friends and find games and content that suit your playstyle.

This feedback has inspired us to enhance the Origin experience to power a faster, smarter, more connected desktop app.

We’ll be inviting some of you to join the Origin Closed Beta where we’ll be rolling out improvements. If you receive an invite, we hope you’ll download and check it out.

Of course, as with any beta, it’s a work-in-progress and your feedback is really important. We hope you’ll share what you like, what you don’t, and everything in between so we can build a PC gaming platform that you’ll love.

Origin will also remain live, so you’ll be free to toggle back and forth between the apps to continue playing the games you love in either experience.

We look forward to sharing more updates soon.

Happy gaming,

The Origin team

The Sims Team promises to improve Skin Tones in The Sims 4

49

The Sims Community has been very vocal regarding the lack of skin tones options and blotchy and bugged variants that there are in the game ever since…well…the release of The Sims 4. In the recent weeks the community have pointed out numerous issues and problems that players are experiencing with the lack of proper skin tone representation in the game.

Today, Lyndsay Pearson, General Manager for The Sims Franchise has released an official statement regarding their plans to improve Skin Tones by fixing the existing ones and adding new ones. There aren’t too many details shared except for the fact that it’s currently among their top priority and that they’ll deliver these improvements to The Sims 4 this Fall.

Check out the full statement (and video) down below:

Hi Simmers,

First of all, I hope you are healthy and I hope you are safe.

I want to address a topic that is very near and dear to The Sims. Inclusivity is at the core of The Sims franchise. From the beginning, we set out to let you build Sims that look like you, or people you know. And we understand it doesn’t feel like we’re truly living up to that promise.

We hear you and recognize that we have not done enough to address the variety of skin tones and hair styles that you expect to find in The Sims 4. While we have made additions and improvements and fixes in the past, there is much more for us to do. We are making it a priority to release more options this year, as well as to address the visual issues with current skin tones- specifically, to improve the blotchy artifacts and ashy tones. We’ve iterated on these before, but we are doing a deep dive into our full pipeline to trace our assets through every step and compare the before and afters to assess any loss in quality.

As we have demonstrated, The Sims is committed not only to inclusion, but to authentic and respectful inclusion, which means we don’t do this work alone. We take feedback from a number of places that inform the work and hold us accountable in our execution. And part of that accountability is communicating to you; we will strive to keep you as up to date and informed as possible. So, as a start, we’re promising to fix the visual artifacts with existing skin tones and increase the number of tones available in The Sims 4 this Fall.

Our community is bigger and stronger than it has ever been, and we will continue to make sure our players are heard, feel represented and are able to create without boundaries. We are blown away by the incredible craftsmanship our mod community and what they bring to the game, and the ways in which they have expanded on the Sims 4 experience. There is no question that their contributions make the world of The Sims better. However, we know that this does not absolve us from continuing to grow and improve as well.

We realize there isn’t one single fix for representation. We are dedicating people to ongoing commitments to continue improvement over the long term. Thank you for caring so much about each other and caring about your experiences in The Sims 4 and thank you for being part of our continued evolution.
