SimGurus Talk News Drought and Upcoming Content

1

After SimGuruDrake’s announcement of months of Upcoming Content being announced next week (ain’t that a tongue twister?!), she and SimGuruGraham took time to answer some questions about the News Drought and what could the Content Announcement be about.

simguru1

  • She talked about why they aren’t able to announce things right away and also mentioned the new communication strategy.

simguru2

  • SimGuruGraham explained how paid content and free content release in a different way. Considering the fact that EA’s new fiscal quarter has started this month, that means there’s a high chance that next week’s announcement will include some free content.

The Sims 4 Screenshot Tips: How to Take Better Pictures of Your Sims

0

Via The Sims Blog

It’s a Snap!

Have you ever taken a screenshot while playing The Sims 4? Did it come out as good as you wanted? It’s fine if it didn’t! Taking good screenshots is a lot harder than hitting “Print Screen” and moving on. When we take the screenshots of The Sims 4 you see on our website, we put a lot of time into them, and consider everything from the storytelling to the composition and lighting.

TS4_ScreenshotTips_Image_01b

If you want to take your The Sims 4 screens to the next level, we’ve put together some tips you can follow along with!

Decide on a subject. What is the focus of your screenshot? What story are you trying to tell? Whether it’s your hilarious Sim or a really fun animation, give yourself a direction to help focus the design of your shot around that particular subject. For this exercise, I want to show my Sim cooking.

QUICK TIP: If a Building or Lot is your subject, build out neighboring Lots and fill with Sims to give it some life.

TS4_ScreenshotTips_Image_02a

Find the moment. This may be the most important tip. Find the exact frame you want to capture and build your shot around that. Play through the interaction a few times to get a sense of the animation. Pause the game to look at various frames in more detail and from multiple angles. Repeat until you find… The moment. Bingo!

TS4_ScreenshotTips_Image_03b
Position your Camera. You’re going to need to get your camera into the perfect position. Luckily, there are a bunch of hotkeys for Camera Controls that might make that easier. Here are some to get started:
  • [tab] key = “Free Camera Mode”
  • [w, a, s, d, q, e] = Moves your camera
  • [z & x] = Zoom
  • [ctrl] + [5, 6, 7, 8, or 9] = Saves your camera positions
  • [5, 6, 7, 8, or 9] = Recalls your saved positions
  • [c] = captures and saves a screenshot

QUICK TIP: Search “Photography Composition Rules” online for some good techniques.

TS4_ScreenshotTips_Image_05_day

Consider time of day. Whether you’re outside or in a room with no windows, the time of day doesn’t just affect the lighting of your shot. A shadow can provide texture to an open area off lot. Earlier morning sunlight can drape over the carpet of your living room. Most importantly, it adds context to your story.

dark

Toss in clutter items. It’s all about the details. Clutter items can help make a set feel lived in and give your Sims some ownership to the space.

QUICK TIP: Every wall is an opportunity, not a Garage Sale. Simplify your shot to keep the viewer focused on your subject.

TS4_ScreenshotTips_Image_06

Light your Sims. Have your scene set? All filled with the right objects? Sim in the right pose? Cool, now you can start lighting. The focus of my screenshot is my Sim. So I want to start lighting him before I light the rest of the scene. Try not to think of lighting a room, but rather where you want to draw the eye of the viewer. With too many lights, a scene loses depth and begins looking evenly lit and flat.QUICK TIP: The “Lamp Named Claudine” is great for lighting Sims without completely affecting the rest of your scene.

TS4_ScreenshotTips_Image_07

Add final polish. Minor adjustments to lighting, color and object placement. Consider using thought balloons to show what your Sim is thinking. The community has a collection online.QUICK TIP: Keep walls up when taking screenshots.

TS4_ScreenshotTips_Image_08c

And that’s it! Follow these tips, and you’re well on your way to taking better screenshots of your Sims.

RUMOR: The Sims 4 Latin America Gives HUGE Teasers About Upcoming Content

4

UPDATE #3: SimGuruLyndsay gave an official statement about the current leaks, neither confirming or denying them:

I am here and watching. When there’s anything official to announce or confirm I’ll be the first to tell you! I know you’re eager for news.

UPDATE #2: They leaked new info about Stuff Packs and Game Packs (thanks @SimsWorld for info) , confirming that Stuff Packs have been delayed over a Game Pack release that will happen soon!

What happened is that some stuff packs were delayed but now comes a new game pack. We still cannot tell you much, but I recommend you go to refine your culinary skills.

UPDATE: The Sims Latina America answered a question by @TurkiiToni about if we’re getting an EP03 announcement in June, where they only confirmed that a new Stuff Pack will happen and that it will come out soon!

Cf3SRKgWQAEu7SB

Twitter users @TurkkiToni and @KaitoLen1 have reported that the official account of The Sims Latin America has been answering to some of their messages over their Facebook Page.

In the first image, user @KaitoLen1 has asked what are they plans for the future. They replied with:

Cf20NIPVIAAIWsj

We still can not say much. But, we’re fine tuning our culinary skills. Regards!

After asking are they working on restaurants, they replied with ”Shhhhh 😉 ”

In the second image,  @TurkkiToni asked about upcoming content as well, to which they replied:

Cf26LN_UEAAdnDh

For now there are no plans to make expansions or stuff packs that include Pets or Toddlers if that’s what you mean, but I can assure you that new Game Play will arrive that has never been seen in other Sims games. Stay tuned 😀

Please note that for now this counts as a rumor as we don’t know who exactly represented the official account behind The Sims Latin America, but what we do now is that the Restaurants hints from SimGuruNinja match with the statement from The Sims Latin America!

The Sims 4: Around The World Houses

We all have a bit of wanderlust and we want to travel the world but the problem is that not all of us can do it. But worry not, because you can live (or at least your Sims) all around the world thanks to DutchSims4Master!
DutchSims4Master has a series on his Youtube Channel where he creates, ones in a while, houses that are inspired from a different country each time. Here’re few examples to make you go wow.

New York Town Houses:

..For when you want to live the dream in the city of lights. Added bonus: You won’t have neither crazy amounts of traffic nor an upsetting amount of constant noise and pollution!  The combination between modern and industrial on the interior will surprise you.

New_York_Town_House

Parisian Town Houses:

..For when you want to live in the city of love but you don’t want to deal with crazy number of people and the crazy metro lines. The only disadvantage is that you won’t have the Eiffel Tower or stroll along Sequana river. But the compact yet still elegant interior of the apartment will make you happy again.

Parisian_Town_House

Swedish House:

If you’re remotely like me and you love nature but then again you hate the bugs that come with it then you and your Sim probably need to pay a visit to this little cottage next time you’ll go on vacation at Granite Falls. You can even smell the fresh and clean air from your screen! The rusty / hand-crafted felling of the interior makes you momentarily to forget about how blazing hot is outside currently!

Swedish_House

Japanese House:

I left for the last my favourite the Japanese one. The cherry blossoms, the wood, the little pond, everything is placed so well to create the perfect zen feeling that you wouldn’t want to leave this house for grocery shopping. Added bonus: you won’t have to rake leaves during Autumn, that would take centuries! The combination of wood and bamboos on the interior of the house, are completing this already perfect house.

Here’s the playlist, where you can check all of his builds and his Origin ID (DutchSimsMaster) where you’d be crazy not to download them!

Simmer Q&A: Five Minutes with Rory Plays The Sims

Welcome to another Simmer Q&A where we take five minutes to get to know another member of our community and share some of their aweSIM content with you. This week we are joined by the fabulous Rory who hosts YouTube channel Rory Plays The Sims! We have been so excited to chat with her and absolutely love her Lets Plays! We asked her all about her simming journey and what started it all.

Q1.) OK so first things first we have to know what got started playing The Sims and which version did you begin with?

I was in college when the first Sims game released and I wanted to take a break from studying so I bought the game and took it home. Hours passed before I realized I hadn’t studied a thing for a test the next day. It was then I realized how much fun and how amazing The Sims is! It’s been amazing to watch this game evolve for 16 years!

Q2.) It sure has! Now we noticed you have a fantastic selection of videos on your YouTube channel featuring a range of awesome challenges, which series has been your favorite to record so far?

My favorite Challenge that I have recorded would have to be The Disney Princess Bachelor Challenge as it was my first ever Let’s Play. It holds a special place in my heart.
Disney-Princess-Bachelor-ChallengeCROP
Q3.) It’s one of our favorites too! Now we also noticed you have covered a few TS4 content reviews, what would you consider to be your favorite expansion/game/stuff pack so far?

By far my favorite Stuff Pack would have to be the Movie Hangout Stuff! I love the bright bohemian furniture and the movies that came with the pack are awesome! Have you seen the one with the pink chainsaw bunny?! Cracks me up every time!

Q4.) Hehe! So I am sure you will agree we have had some fantastic content within The Sims 4 so far but we want to know if you have anything you would like to see, anything you are wishing for?

I’ve really enjoyed the content that EA has released so far for The Sims! I would love to see a Vacation Themed Pack. Tropical beaches… Oh… Wait! Seasons! I miss the Festivals and the weather! I really do miss the perspective of time passing as the seasons change.

Q5.) Fingers crossed we see seasons soon! Now in the latest patch update we saw a new challenge added – The Growfruit Challenge, have you been growing some delicious growfruit and collecting those eggs? Let us know if you have managed to unlock any goodies too!

I have been having so much fun with the Spring Challenge! I did a live stream on Twitch where we found all of the eggs, (including rare ones) we grew gorgeous Growfuit trees, and unlocked some fancy new planters! I loved seeing the Growfuit trees at night! So beautiful!

Q6.) They really are stunning at night! Finally we would like to know if you have any upcoming sims adventures, do you have any new challenges lined up? Your channel looks fantastic so far and we are always keen to hear about upcoming content from our simmers!

I have so many fun adventures lined up; I’m really excited to get started! Upcoming Challenges include, The Runaway Teen Challenge, The Drifter Challenge, and a few surprise Challenges! Indie gaming will always be a feature on my Channel and I’m also excited to announce that console gaming will be coming to my Channel!

We really enjoyed getting to know Rory and can’t wait to see her future simming adventures, we also have a taster video below from her fantastic Asylum Challenge! Be sure to check out Rory’s channel and twitter, we will leave the links at the end of this interview:

Rory’s Quick Fire Questions
Summer or Winter – Winter! I love rainy days cuddled with a good book and a cat!
DVD or Cinema – Twitch and YouTube! I rarely watch movies.
Facebook or Twitter – Twitter!
Morning or Night – Night! I love to be curled up with a good book and a cat! (I’m seeing a theme here!)
Ice Cream or Chocolate – White Chocolate! Yum!

The Sims 4: ‘NoBlu’ Lighting Improvement Mod

LumiaLover Sims and ArenSims have come up with a brilliant Mod for The Sims 4!

Their latest Mod called NoBlu Mod will remove the blue tint that shows up in rooms, usually at night. This Mod also spruces up some other lighting components:

This mod made by myself and the talented modder @arensims, aims to fix this and provide a much better lighting experience. We have replaced the blue tint with a dark grey to come as close to real darkness as it can without compromising clarity. We also increased the overall brightness of lights by 40% to make up for the dim, shallow lighting that most lights in game produce.

Just drop the package file in your mods folder and you should be good to go. We hope you enjoy using this mod as much as we do!

The Sims Blog: SimGuru Spotlight – SimGuruJill

0

Via TheSims.com!

Meet Jill!

Want to know more about the fine people working on The Sims 4? Good news! We’re starting up a new series: SimGuru Spotlights, where we talk to a different member of The Sims Studio and ask them to answer questions about their life, their passions, and, most importantly, their favorite ice cream flavor.

Let’s chat with SimGuruJill!

JJ_LessDimples-1

Can you give a brief introduction to yourself?
My name’s Jill Johnson or you might know me as SimGuruJill. I’ll also respond to “Johnson”, “Tronson”, “Bubby”, “Jilly”, “Jillary”, or even “Jillian” (which is my actual real name). I’m a Producer on The Sims 4 and have been a lucky member of The Sims family for almost 10 years now. I started out by working all three MySims games before The Sims Medieval and then ultimately joining The Sims 4 team to help build up our new Create-a-Sim. Most recently I had the pleasure of Producing the lovely world of Windenburg for The Sims 4 Get Together Expansion Pack!

What do you do on The Sims 4?
One of the coolest things about being a producer is just how many different people and disciplines I get to engage with in just a single day. While about half of the time it might be conversations about open questions or bugs or status updates yadda yaddda, it’s most amazing when I get called over to see a quick animation playblast, sneak a peek at a fabulous new concept sketch, or I get to see a feature starting to come together and work at someone’s desk for the first time. It’s cool to see firsthand what a labor of love The Sims is, and watch it evolve from a concept on a piece of paper to a full-on experience.

What’s the best thing about being a SimGuru?
Hands down, my favorite thing about being a SimGuru is when I get to meet our players. You’re all such a refreshing breath of air and I love the energy and the feedback we get from friends that love this game just as much as we do!

vlcsnap-2015-12-09-06h28m55s252

What do you love most about The Sims franchise?
I can’t stop falling in love with my little people in the game, all day every day. Whether I’m playing for fun or just doing my standard day-to-day testing, I always need to click randomize a few times in Create-A-Sim before I leave – just to make sure I’ve got someone new that makes me laugh and makes me happy. Sometimes when I find they’ve been running around and doing things without me (like when I come sit back down and my guy is absolutely miserable and soaking in pee with a burning stove because I left him alone on a lot with no toilet), I’ll start yelling things at my screen like “oh no, I’m sorry I’m sorry don’t die!” while I quickly try and save him. I want to take care of my little virtual buddies.

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
Can I pick three? I’m torn between rose ice cream, garlic ice cream, and black pepper ice cream. I love the unexpected flavors that make you go hmmm at first but then are surprisingly tasty.

Simmer Q&A: Five Minutes with Luke The Plumbob

0

It’s back! Here at The Sims Community we really enjoyed our Simmer Q&As and we love connecting with you and hearing all about your simming journey. This week we are featuring the fantastic Luke owner of YouTube channel Luke The Plumbob, it’s packed with simsational content including Let’s Plays, Reviews and Speed Builds and we wanted to get to know more about Luke and his simming story:

Q1.) First things first we want to know what got you started on your sims journey and how long have you been “simming through the universe and beyond”? – we love that tagline by the way!

Thanks! My Sims journey started back in the Sims 2 days, so about 12 years ago! My family were very big fans of Sims City, back in the day, and I’ve probably been hooked since birth! I originally started playing The Sims 2 base game and then the My Sims Games- I guess that’s where my addiction started!

Q2.) Great! Now you host a fantastic channel which currently has just over 700 subscribers! What inspired you to begin recording your sim stories and how do you feel about the channel today?

In The Sims 3 days, I used to watch loads of other people’s Sims Stories on YouTube, many people like Quxxn. I really looked up to them and wanted to also share my adventures with my Sims as well as just generally sharing about the wonders of The Sims! I still remember watching The English Simmer and Rachybop in their early days! I’m so pleased with how my channel has now grown, I would of never thought it would be where it is now. When The Sims Team followed me on Twitter and EA/Sims UK shared some of my videos, I was overjoyed to see that my work was being appreciated and it just motivated me more to create more content. My channel has also enabled me to create some amazing friendships, attend fantastic Sims events (like the Simmers Meetup) and much more.

Simmers Meetup Luke

Q3.) That’s fantastic Luke! OK so you have such an awesome range of simsational videos including Lets Plays, Speed Builds and Reviews, which do you enjoy creating the most?

I love making every type of video I make! Having to choose one is like having to choose a favourite child! If I had to choose, I would say I enjoy making reviews the most. I love making Reviews because you guys get to see my first overall impressions of everything new for The Sims, most of which includes me being really excited. I also love to help other Simmers out to see if new content is ideal for them. It’s amazing when people comment saying thank you!

Q4.) We also get pretty excited here at SC! So we have seen a wide range of content released by The Sims for TS4 so far, which would you say has been your favourite Expansion/Game/Stuff pack?

Favourite expansion so far would have to be Get To Work, the main reason because of The new careers and ALIENS! Favourite Game Pack so far would have to be Outdoor Retreat because of the beautiful Granite Falls and BEARS! My favourite stuff pack would have to be either be Perfect Patio Stuff or Spooky Stuff.

Q5.) Is there anything you would personally like to see included in The Sims 4 and if you have played TS2 or TS3 did you have a favourite pack from them too?

I really would like Pets, University and Supernatural equivalents to come to The Sims 4 very soon! I loved being a Vampire with a Dalmatian, attending University in The Sims 3, although the Zombie attacks at full moons were annoying!!!

Q6.) Hehe! A vampire with a pet dalmation, we love it! Finally tell us if you have any goals for your superb channel, do you also have any plans for upcoming content?

This summer, I hope to keep my channel to a schedule and have a constant stream of content weekly. As well as of course releasing more Let’s plays, Reviews, etc… I really want to try out some Collabs and create some of my own challenges! A massive goal would be to reach 5k Subscribers by this year, that would be truly amazing!

Luke’s Quick Fire Questions

Coffee or Tea – Coffee
Cake or Chocolate – Cake (Nomnomnom)!
Netflix or Cinema – Netflix (I don’t think I could live without some of my favourite TV Shows!)
Day or Night – Night
Book or Magazine – Book

We really enjoyed our Q&A with Luke and hope he reaches his 5K Subscribers goal soon! If you would like to check out Luke’s Channel or contact him via social media we have all the links you need below:
