The Sims Blog: 6 Things you should try out as a Business Owner

Via TheSims.com!

Get Ready for Your Grand Opening

The Sims 4 Get to Work* has been out for almost a week now, meaning many of you have already tried your hand at some of the new features of the expansion pack. You’ve messed with your neighbours as the Scientist, saved lives as the Doctor, and cracked cases as the Detective.

But today, I want to focus on the part of the expansion I’m most excited about: retail stores. Granted, I might be a little biased since it’s the part I worked on, but seriously – you can open your own shop! You can sell almost anything! That’s super cool.

I pulled together six things you should try out while you’re making your own shop.

TS4_480_RETAIL_BLOG_01_001

Mess with your employees. Being able to hire employees opens up plenty of opportunities to business-owners. Some are useful, while others are more devious. For instance, you can hire a highly skilled employee and demote them to the bottom pay level. Their job satisfaction will take a huge hit, but if you sweet talk them enough (and have the Mega Manager business perk), you might get plenty of bang for your buck. You could also create a special uniform for your employee of the month… or alternatively dress up an employee who’s doing poorly in an embarrassing clown outfit (or a hotdog, my own personal favourite).

Create a store within a store. On the outside, Drake’s clothing store was fairly typical and ordinary. It sold shirts, pants, hats, and even some sleepwear. But in the back room, he had a… something else. Wander back there if you want to buy the secret stuff: the slickest Gnomes money can buy.

Create the perfect side business. You can make your retail business your main job. Create a store, open it every day, and work until your Sim is nearly falling asleep on the floor. But if you want, your store can be supplemental to your main career. Writers can sell their books, or – if you’re looking to double up on The Sims 4 Get to Work’s new features – you can have your Scientist run an Elixir shop as a side money-making venture.

Run a specialty store. Nearly everything in The Sims 4 can be sold in your retail store, meaning you can theme your shop in any way you want. Obviously you can run a Bakery or a Photo Studio, but if you want to get more specific and creative, you can do some really cool things. You can open a Seafood Market by catching fish and selling them from cold display cases, or even a Wedding Shop. You can sell wedding arches, wedding gowns, wedding cakes, wedding flowers, wedding furniture… even a grand piano. Everything a bride-to-be needs!

TS4_477_BUSINESS_01_002

Take advantage of advertising. Creating a shop is only half of your job as a store-owner – you also need to make sure you’re successful. One way to do so is by advertising, but you can manage your ads even closer if you really want to maximize profit. Purchase an Advertising Campaign on the web to create a rush of customers to your store, and hire extra employees to deal with the extra customers. Once the effectiveness of the advertising starts to wear off, send the excess employees home for the day so their hourly wages don’t eat into your profits.

Play with your customers (and employees) emotions. Sims in The Sims 4 can be very emotional, and you can take advantage of that if you’re running a retail store. Sims that are in a good mood are easier to talk to, and employees that are inspired are better at schmoozing. If you put items around your store to manipulate these emotions, it’ll be easier for your customers to have positive social interactions, making them more likely to buy.

The Sims 4 Get To Work CC: MFS Store

This Retail Lot filled with Custom Content has been brought to you by missfortunesims!

And here is it, the mfs shop where your sims can buy and wear my clothes in a fashionable and realistic atmosphere 🙂 The store is a 20×20 lot with 5 mannequins and several corners with buyable accessories, bags and perfumes. I also created three dressing rooms, like the ones you see in a real clothing shop!

All the cc I used is included in the download, I also added two .doc files for the credits, with all the links to the cc from other creators and the meshes I recolored. A special thanks to ensimique who helped me to make some recolors for the store!

Installation instructions

  • Put all the cc in your Mods folder

  • Move the blueprints and bpi files in your Tray folder.

  • In game, chose a empty lot, go in build mode and select the store from your gallery. Make sure you selected the “include custom content” option from the gallery filters to see the store. Don’t place the store directly from the scenery or all the cc will be removed!

  • Remember to dress the mannequins with my clothes ;P

Keeping Get to Work Fresh

banner

How many times have you anxiously awaited the release of an expansion pack only to blow through everything it had to offer in a few day’s worth of hardcore play sessions? Where you focus all your attention on the new content and burn out faster than a couch potato sim on a treadmill. Here are some tips for keeping the Get to Work content fresh longer so the wait until the next game release won’t feel as long.

Mix It Up

Trust me, I know exactly how excited you are to see everything each profession has to offer. But you need to take it slow because once you reach the end, that’s it. Much like every other aspect of Sims, you can only do the same things so many times before you tire of it. How many crime scenes can you really investigate in a row before they start to feel repetitive? How many patients can you diagnose and treat before the déjà vu sets in?

selfie

You’ve gotta mix it up. Don’t follow your sim to work every day. I know it’s tempting because, “oh my gosh it’s so new and exciting and I just need to see it all,” but you’re only going to feel that way for so long. So make it last. Your sim will survive at work without you there every day, and so will you. Besides, the rest of the family needs your attention too. You can’t forget about their lives just because a member of the family got a shiny new job.

(Don’t) Go for Gold

You’re going to think I’m crazy for saying this, but hear me out before you judge: Don’t put too much focus on the daily goals. Crazy right? It all goes back to the “mix it up” idea from earlier. You can only take too much of something before you become bored, and those daily goals will burn you out just as fast as if you were actually at work. Instead, focus on what you want your sim to do that day. Because no matter what people say, Sims 4 is still a sandbox game, and you can still play it however you want.

Don’t feel like heading out to the crime scene today? Stay at the station and schmooze the chief. Sick of dealing with the… umm… sick? Crack some jokes with the nurse over a nice pre-made lunch in the break room. Haven’t had an inspired ‘eureka’ moment for a while? Make some previously discovered serums to wreak havoc on that annoying lab technician you can’t stand the sight of.

04-05-15_7-31 PM

Build up your skills. Socialize with townies. Beat your coworkers at a game of chess. Fulfill your needs. Or your whims. Slack off as much as you want, whenever you want. Just because you have daily goals doesn’t mean you need to do them all daily. That’s the best part about following your sims to work, they can slack off more than you can at your job.

Explore Your Surroundings

Don’t let the pre-release information fool you, Magnolia Promenade isn’t the only new neighborhood in Get to Work. And no, I’m not talking about the hidden lot Sixam either. Two new neighborhoods have been added to house the new workplace buildings. These can only be accessed when your sim is working in the required profession, so make sure you take a break from the daily grind every so often to have a look around.

04-05-15_7-23 PM

The Willow Creek neighborhood houses both the police station and the hospital. Located around the two buildings are waterfront walkways perfect for a midday jog, scenic gardens, and a relaxing fountain quad. The Oasis Springs lot, that holds the science lab, is actually quite a large space full of places to scrounge for minerals and aliens amongst other collectables. There’s even a picnic area located outside the entrance to the lab where you can meet some local residents.

Now that you’re armed with these tips on keeping Get to Work fresh, get back to work. Just don’t overdo it.

The Sims 4 Get to Work: Prevent Alien Abductions

Are Aliens bugging you?

Like, do they try to abduct and impregnate your Sim every night? Don’t worry, there’s an easy way to solve this…

04-04-15_3-59 PM-2

There are two ways to solve this issue and both include a Satellite Dish which can be created by a scientist. The first way is to create it without cheating.

Your Scientist Sim will need to live his/her 7th Eureka in order to create the Satellite Dish. Your Sim will also need 3 any Common Metals and 3 any Common Crystals.

After you took care of that, click on the Invention Constructor and select Invent Device > Satellite Dish.

TS4 2015-04-06 04-13-07-45 04-06-15_4-13 AM 04-06-15_4-14 AM

You can drag the built Satellite Dish into your Inventory and then place it on your Household Lot. Click on it and select Prevent Abductions to be safe from any random Alien Abductions in the next 24 hours. After those 24h have passed, you’ll have to use the Prevent Abductions on the Satellite Dish again in order to make your Lot Abduction-free!

TS4 2015-04-06 04-15-01-53 04-06-15_4-15 AM

There’s another way of getting the Satellite Dish, and that’s by activating the Buy Debug Cheat.

In Build Mode, type in the bb.showhiddenobjects cheat and search for the Satellite Dish in the Search Area.
