The Sims 4 Burglars: Everything You Need To Know About These Sneaky Sims

Some very suspicious looking Sims have been released into The Sims 4 today as part of the game’s Motherlode Season. What has been teased with the eyes emoji over the past few weeks now finally makes sense. However, we can finally say as a community that the long awaited introduction of The Sims 4 Burglars is here!

The addition of these crafty non-playable Sims and Police Sims come as part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations as well as the 25th February 2025 free game update. This means you don’t need any extra packs for this feature!

The Sims 4 Burglars, Who Are They Really?

These cunning Sims by day would be like any other typical Sim, however in the dead of night they become Robin Banks. A Sim who has planned their mission to come creeping into your household’s home and grab anything of value before hopefully making an escape unnoticed.

How Do I Know if a Burglar Event is happening?

Upon The Sims 4 Burglars event starting, you’ll see the Burglar approach the front of your Sims lot, as well as an orange pop up notification in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Can I Stop Them?

There are a few ways to stop these sneaky The Sims 4 Burglars.

Firstly, install a Burglar alarm by any door that a Burglar could enter through. Secondly, and if your Sim is fast enough, they can call the Police who will come and arrest the Burglar.

However, there is a third way your Sims can take on The Sims 4 Burglars, and that is by dealing with them directly themselves. Of course, more buff Sims will stand a better chance of putting the Burglar in its place.

I Don’t Have an Alarm, Now What?

If you don’t have a Burglar Alarm and a Burglar comes into your home, unless a Sim steps in and confronts them, or they call the police, they will happily take as many objects as they want and can fit into their bag.

Of course, if you don’t confront them or call the police, they will leave the lot with the objects they’ve swiped. You’ll also get a pop-up notification to tell you what they’ve taken.

Just make sure not to call the Police after the event has happened, as they won’t be too happy with you for wasting their time.

Alertz Burglar Alarm

Protecting your home, and deterring these pesky Sims has never been easier thanks to the Alertz Burglar Alarm.

Coming in at $85 Simoleons, this Sims 4 Burglar Alarm comes in three different colours, white, black and grey and is the most effective way to fend of grabbing your Sims attention when trouble strikes.

Now, your Sims can also take it one step further by implementing some upgrades.

  • Police Link Security Upgrade (Requires Level 3 Handiness)
  • Robustify Inner Workings (Requires Level 5 Handiness)
  • Take That! Shock Upgrade (Requires Level 7 Handiness)

Make sure to have plenty of Electronic and Common Upgrade Parts in your Sims’ inventory! These can ordered from your Sims computer or found throughout the worlds.

Note: You can also disable the Police Link Security and Take That! Shock Upgrades by selecting the Burglar Alarm again.

Interacting With A Burglar

Now, when the Burglar Sim is on your Lot, you will be able to interact with them. You’ll have three options to choose from.

  • Confront the Burglar
  • Fight
  • Call Police Station (only available if the Police Link Security Upgrade is not applied to the Burglar Alarm)

Special Interactions & Reactions

As stated in The Sims 4 Burglars feature post on The Sims official website, the team shared some exciting information. This showcased some of the new interactions and reactions particular Sims would experience when a Burglar event was in progress!

CONVERSATION 2
  • Have a dog? They’ll chase the Burglar right out.  (Requires: The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack)
  • Werewolves can intimidate the Burglar into leaving. (Requires: The Sims 4 Werewolves Game Pack )
  • Spellcasters? They’ve got everything from confusion spells to full-on transformations. (Requires: The Sims 4 Realm of Magic Game Pack)
  • Servos can zap the Burglar into place with their defense matrix. (Requires: The Sims 4 Discover University Expansion Pack)
  • Scientists can use the Freeze Ray to immobilize them. (Requires: The Sims 4 Get to Work Expansion Pack)
  • Vampires, of course, might take advantage of the situation for a quick warm-blooded snack before commanding the Burglar to leave. (Requires: The Sims 4 Vampires Game Pack)

The Sims Team also went on to explain how Teenage Sims might suddenly stop and attempt to take a selfie with the Burglar before they make their great escape.

Players would also discover that some of the most iconic characters in the game such as Bonehilda and Agnes Crumplebottom are more than ready to fight if needed. Can you imagine being face to face with Agnes’s handbag in a fight?

The Sims 4 Burglars add a total of 50 new unique reactions across the Base Game alone, with an additional 17 found across different packs. That’s not to mention 37 player-initiated interactions too!

How Often Are Burglar Events?

By default, Burglar events are not going to happen, however if you want to have a little more of a chaotic gameplay experience, you can apply the brand new Heist Havoc Lot Challenge!

This new lot challenge will see your Sims have run-ins with Robin Banks much more frequently, but they’ll also be putting your home security to the test.

Can I Turn Off Burglars?

Yes you can!

Simply head to the Game Options menu and then into Gameplay. You’ll then see an option to turn them off on this page, as shown below.

What Objects Will They Take?

They’ll focus more so on everyday objects such as sofa’s, televisions, computers, you know, all the things that would inconvenience your Sim on a daily basis. They won’t go for things like windows, doors, outdoor plants, lights etc.

Can you imagine, waking up one day and go your Sim goes to work, and you discover that some stealthy Burglar has taken all your windows!

What Else Can Burglars Do?

Well, you can befriend them and have them join your household. If Robin Banks dies, the game will regenerate a new Robin Banks for you. Much like we’ve seen previously with Father Winter.

Forced Burglar Events

If you have the testingcheats true cheat enabled, you will be able to force a Burglar event to happen when it next hits nightfall.

Simply shift+click on the mailbox to bring up the debug menu to trigger the event.

A new Sims 4 patch has landed! Make sure your doors are locked, burglars have snuck their way into The Sims 4! A long-requested feature is finally making a comeback, alongside a host of new bug fixes and more. Whether you’re excited to see these sneaky troublemakers return or just want to know what else has changed, then I’ve got you covered. Today’s patch bought us the return of the beloved burglar NPC – this time in the form of a Sim named Robin Banks. But that’s not all! The new update contains a host of new minor tweaks to the UI, some brand-new swatches, and of course bug fixes.

The Return of Burglars

Fans have long speculated about the return of the much loved (and much feared) Burglar NPC, and today’s update sees them finally added to the game. Over the past month, there have been theories, rumours, and leaks surrounding the re-addition of Burglars and yesterday a teaser was posted on Twitter, however, the wait is finally over. Get ready to meet Robin Banks!

Naturally, with the addition of burglars comes the return of the alarm system available in the Build-Buy catalogue, as well as a new Lot Challenge that increases the likelihood of burglaries. The Alertz Burglar Alarm can be found under the Electronics tab in Buy Mode.

This handy alarm can be upgraded by your Sim to reduce the chance of breaking, automatically call the police, and even give the burglar an electric shock! Sims who have a high enough fitness skill will be able to take the burglar on themselves. If you own various packs you will also be able to apprehend the pesky thief in several new ways. If you have The Sims 4 Get To Work your scientist will be able to use the freeze ray to stop the intruder. Dogs can chase burglars away if you own The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs. And for occult lovers, there are plenty of new options including casting confusion spells if you own Realm of Magic Game Pack, and chasing the burglar off Werewolf style! There is cross-pack compatibility with 17 different packs, each with a host of new interactions for you to explore!

Heist Havoc – Lot Challenge

Alongside the addition of Burglars comes a new Lot Challenge to really up the anti! This lot challenge will increase the rate at which Robin will spawn and your Alertz Burglar Alarm will give you frequent false alarms… or might not even work at all!

There have been several changes to the in-game UI in the recent patch. Your Sim’s portrait will now appear over the lot they are currently visiting and will also appear next to the icon of the world they are currently in. No more losing where they are!

Occult Clubs + New Activities

Players now have the ability to set occult status as a club requirement. This will include any occults from the packs that you own. You can also make your club exclusionary, meaning only non-occult Sims can join.

Alongside the new requirements come new club activities. This includes activities such as drinking tea from the tea set, viewing collectables, drinking nectar, and much more. These will require different packs depending on what you want your club members to do – however, it is nice to have more variety and that the club system is still getting some love 10 years on!

Tattoo Categories

The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack is set to introduce more tattoo options – however, those without the pack will still be able to choose between new categories displayed above the available tattoos. It seems that layering tattoos is a pack exclusive as of now.

The BlandCo Contemporary Counter and Island Counter have been treated to 4 new wood-topped swatches that will match with the new coffee bar in The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack. This comes not long after the swatch update that introduced over 650 new swatches to Base Game items last September.

Bug Fixes

A large number of bugs from the laundry list have been quashed!

  • The missing walls at the Willow Creek Gym bathroom have been restored so your Sims can poop in peace.
  • The Bubble Tea barista role is now fixed and have returned to serving your Sims bubble tea.
  • Toddlers are now less likely to cause a mess on the floor unless their responsibility behaviour has decreased.
  • Male Sims with a feminine frame can now wear certain tops without any spine distortion.

You can read the rest of the patch notes here! Unfortunately, it does not look like the weather inside bug has been fixed, however, it is something the team are actively looking into!

EA accidentally leaks the entire Sims 4 Expansion DLC copy two weeks before release.

It happened. The full release copy of The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies leaks appeared on Steam and is now floating the internet. For obvious reasons we won’t be posting any sources related to this leak download, however we do believe that it’s very important to inform the players on what’s currently happening.

Clarification on the Businesses & Hobbies Leak

Anadius replied to us with some insightful knowledge about the current wave of Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies leaks we’re seeing. Explaining that the version of The Sims 4 EP18 we’re seeing now are still the same as the ones from August 2024. The only thing that’s changed is that players can now play it with the latest Sims 4 Base Game update.

Correction: the files leaked *a month* before the release. But this update made them playable. As far as I know there are no new leaked files. Just those from February 6th. (which is a build from August 2024)

It Seems It’s Not The Final Version

The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies leak that occured today seems to not be the final version of the Expansion Pack. Looking at the game files, there are still world assets that need to be updated and replaced with WIP shells you crrently see below:

The first full copy of The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies that accidentally leaked happened in the beginning of this month. When an in-development build from August 2024 surfaced officially on the Steam listing.

The Sims Team also revealed in the official Sims 4 Release notes for today that they’ll be releasing the upcoming Sims 4 Creator Kits in April. Totally different from three other Kits coming in May!

It’s Xènia here – Designer and longtime Simmer – to talk about why today is a big day for The Sims 4! If you’ve ever missed those suspenseful moments when your Sim’s peaceful night was interrupted by tense music and a sneaky presence, we’ve got great news: the Burglar is back! And the best part? It’s in the base game, so it’s free for everyone with today’s update.

The Burglar is an iconic Sim featured in The Sims, The Sims 2, and The Sims 3 who sneaks into houses, usually at night when Sims are asleep, to steal household items. As a longtime Sims player, I have wanted to bring the Burglar to The Sims 4. You could say I’ve been stealing moments to pitch this idea from the very start! ** Even during my job interview, I asked “What would it take to bring the Burglar back?” Now, The Sims team can proudly say the Burglar is back just in time for our 25th Birthday, shipping alongside The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack. —and trust me, it’s worth the wait.

Everything you need to know about the Burglar

So, how does the Burglar operate in The Sims 4? Here’s what you need to know. The infamous Robin Banks (yep, that’s her name—we couldn’t resist) only strikes at night, sneaking into your Sim’s home while everyone is fast asleep (or even if they are awake!). Before you know it, she’ll be grabbing whatever’s valuable and making her escape.

How to foil that midnight mischief

The Burglar can be arrested by the police if one of your Sims calls promptly. For those who want to play it safe, the Burglar Alarm is back too! Place one in your Sim’s home for extra protection because the only way to guarantee the police get to the crime scene in time is by installing a Burglar Alarm. Handy Sims can upgrade the alarm to do all sorts of useful things: automatically call the police, reduce the chance of it breaking, or even zap the Burglar, forcing her to drop the stolen goods.

The Sims 4 Update 2

Prefer to handle the situation yourself? No problem—your Sims can take action whether it’s waking up to call the cops (who may or may not catch the thief) or getting into a one-on-one fight, your Sims have options. Pro tip: Sims who’ve been hitting the gym have a better chance of winning those fights!

Special Sims can unleash new defenses

Stopping the Burglar will feel unique depending on who’s in the household. Special Sims bring even more exciting possibilities.

  • Have a dog? They’ll chase the Burglar right out.  (Requires: The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack)
  • Werewolves can intimidate the Burglar into leaving. (Requires: The Sims 4 Werewolves Game Pack )
  • Spellcasters? They’ve got everything from confusion spells to full-on transformations. (Requires: The Sims 4 Realm of Magic Game Pack)
  • Servos can zap the Burglar into place with their defense matrix. (Requires: The Sims 4 Discover University Expansion Pack)
  • Scientists can use the Freeze Ray to immobilize them. (Requires: The Sims 4 Get to Work Expansion Pack)
  • Vampires, of course, might take advantage of the situation for a quick warm-blooded snack before commanding the Burglar to leave. (Requires: The Sims 4 Vampires Game Pack)

Even Sims without superpowers have fun reactions. Teenagers might stop to take a selfie with the Burglar before bolting to safety. Talk about stealing the spotlight! 

Iconic characters like Agnes Crumplebottom and Bonehilda won’t run—they’re ready to fight! In total, we’ve included over 50 unique reactions across the base game and 17 different packs, along with 37 player-directed interactions. Who knew a bit of thievery could add so much character to your game? 

Burglar visits are rare because we want those moments to stand out. But for those of you who thrive on chaos, we’ve got you covered with the new Lot Challenge, Heist Havoc. Turn this on, and not only will the Burglar visit more often, but even trusty Alarms might start acting up. You’ve been warned!

Do I need to own Business & Hobbies to get the Burglar in-game?

No, the Burglar update will be available to all Simmers as part of today’s base game update!

Is there anything new with how the Burglar works in The Sims 4?

There are quite a few new updates with how the Burglar works in The Sims 4! First, there will be updated music accompanying the Burglar when they spawn on your lot. In addition, there is the new Heist Havoc Lot Challenge that will spawn the Burglar on your lot at a higher rate.

Similar to before, Burglar Alarms can be installed on Sims’ lots to help keep their belongings safe, but now you can upgrade the alarm to reduce the chance of it breaking, automatically call the police, or even zap the Burglar! In addition, you’ll be able to upgrade your Burglar Alarms so they break less often.

In addition, Sims can now take justice into their own hands, and special Sims can unleash their own defenses, as we’ve outlined in our dev diary!

Are any new items or functionality coming to the base game to support the Burglar? (e.g. Burglar Alarms, Smart Cameras, etc.)

Police Officers will be returning to the game to help tackle those pesky Burglars! You will also be able to install Burglar Alarms on tour Sims’ Residential or Small Business Venue (in the Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack) lots to keep their belongings safe.

Is there anything that the Burglar can’t steal?

Most build objects cannot be stolen – such as outdoor plants that are planted directly in the ground, windows, lights, elevators, etc.

Can you befriend Robin Banks?

Yes, you will be able to interact with and befriend Robin Banks! You can even add Robin Banks to your household. If you do this, another Burglar will generate to take Robin’s place, or a Sim that already exists in the world with the right traits who is unplayed can fulfill the role. New burglars will spawn with the same traits but a random appearance and name.

Can Robin Banks die? If so, will she regenerate? 

Yes, Robin Banks can die, and yes, she will regenerate. Similar to Father Winter there will be a new Burglar with similar traits that will be randomly generated if this happens.

The Sims 4 Burglars Update is HERE! Read the official release notes below.

EA and Maxis have just released The Sims 4 Burglars Update across PC, Mac, Xbox and Playstation supported consoles! This is a huge (and free) feature content update. That brings both new free content to the base game and also helps prepare it for the launch of the upcoming Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack.

The team announced in their last week’s Laundry List that they’ll be fixing numerous bugs and issues for the game. However, players will have to wait a couple more weeks until the issue with The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion gets resolved.

Installing the Latest Sims 4 Update

You can get the latest The Sims 4 Update on the following official launchers and platforms:

  • PC: EA App, Origin, Steam, Epic Games
  • Mac: Origin, Steam
  • Playstation: PS4 and PS5
  • Xbox: Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S

You can download the latest Sims 4 Burglars Update by checking for a Patch through the EA App, Steam or Epic Games launcher for Desktop. If you have Automatic Updates enabled the update will automatically download through your client program. In case your EA App is not working properly ensure you’ve cleared your app cache!

If you play The Sims 4 on Xbox Series X / S and Playstation 4 and 5 you can request a new update by checking for updates under The Sims 4 game in the Main Menu. If you’ve enabled automatic updates the Patch should download right away.

Mods & CC Care

The Sims 4 Burglars Update is a HUGE Feature Content patch drop. Including revamps to the Tattoo System in Create A Sim, Build Mode UI changes and a whole new NPC in Live Mode. Things are definitely bound to break, especially as The Sims 4 Base Game prepares for the Businesses & Hobbies EP launch on March 6th.

All of your Mods & CC will be automatically disabled after installing the latest Update. Make sure you’re up-to-date with all of your favorite Mod and Custom Content creators to ensure their creations are safe for use!

Upgrade them to break less often, summon a Police Officer, or give those Burglars a shocking surprise! Get ready to unleash your inner artist with new Tattoo customization options! Now, you can tweak the Hue, Saturation, Opacity, and Brightness of your tattoo designs using sliders just like the ones for makeup. Your Sims’ ink has never been this vibrant!

You will also find that the tattoo catalog now has new filters for different tattoo locations to make tattoos easier to browse.

  • New icons have been created for Study and Dining Room in Objects by Room.

Mentorship has experienced an overhaul, with more Skills that can be mentored and the ability to offer Mentoring directly from Skill objects such as Mischief Skill at a Computer or a Tablet, or Flower Arranging at the Flower Arranging bench (requires Seasons Expansion Pack). Your Sims will be mastering new Skills in no time. Let the learning begin!

  • This SDX goatee (ymFacialHair_SDX037Goatee) has found its rightful place under the Goatee category. No more hide-and-seek for your Sim’s facial hair! (Was there a memo we missed about a great hide-and-seek event? scratches head)
  • On the contrary, this SDX scarf (yfAcc_NecklaceSDX037Scarf) really wanted to be seen and appeared twice in the catalog. This has been fixed now.

  • Mannequins have gone back to their less-fabulous existence as we fixed eyelashes being added to mannequins when applying Styled Looks.

City Living

  • No more magical floating flowers! Those unanchored blooms have been tidied up during festival events, keeping things grounded.

Get Famous

  • [EA Forums] Whoops! Some Sims were accidentally posing as celebrities right after moving in. While accidental fame (or no fame) is fun, it’s not the best start for new friendships. Sims will earn celebrity Reputation and Fame the honest way now!

Discover University

  • [EA Forums] Academic overachievers rejoice! Teens who graduate from High School early and head to University can now share their skills through Tutoring. Time to share that knowledge!
  • [EA Forums] Sims’ ears now wear Gauges without those pesky jagged edges.

Parenthood

  • [EA Forums] Children were channeling their inner tornadoes and causing messes too often! Now, they’ll only create regular messes if they haven’t learned responsibility yet.

Dream Home Decorator

  • [EA Forums] Interior Decorators were seeing 0 earnings in their results pop-up after completing gigs. Your Sims’ hard-earned Simoleons will display correctly in the notifications and in the results pop-up going forward.
  • In addition, the “Stay on Lot” and “Go Home” buttons will appear and work as expected now after completing a gig.

Nifty Knitting

  • [EA Forums] Sims can now successfully “Resume” or “Frog” their Knitting Projects. The actions will queue properly, ensuring your knitting plans are back on track.
  • [EA Forums] Sims knitting beanies, socks, or plant holders now walk to a seat to resume their projects. No more standing mishaps!
  • [EA Forums] Sims can now switch rocking chairs mid-knit without getting tangled up and losing track.
  • We all love knitting, but now when you cancel a knitting interaction, your Sim stops right away.

Home Chef Hustle

  • [EA Forums] When the “Convince to Buy” interaction is used on other Sims, they will no longer be invited and allowed to walk into your Sim’s house. No more crashing on the couch!

Crystal Creations

  • Crystal Tree enthusiasts, rejoice! Your Notebook entry now appears after Research so you can safely keep track of your sparkling studies.
  • Balance restored! The “Botanical Earrings” icon is now perfectly centered in the interaction queue.

Accidental Inclusion of New Unit Outlines

The Sims Direct Team issued an additional statement, saying that they included a feature from The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies by accident in the new patch. The Sims Team plans to release a new patch before the release of the Expansion Pack to address this, and potentially other bugs. Read the full statement:

Our Base Game update on Feb 25th included a Unit Outlines feature in Build Mode that’s part of the upcoming release of the Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack on March 6th. This feature will not work without the pack & will be removed from the base game in an upcoming patch.

Burglars: A Look Back at One of the Franchise’s Most Iconic NPCs!

How did they get in? In-tru-da-window!

Your Sims are asleep in their beds after a long day of player-driven chaos. You hear an ominous musical sting play. The camera focuses on a masked Sim walking towards your property. And before you know it your hard-earned belongings have been snatched into a swag bag and the criminal has escaped into the night.

Of course, we’re talking about the fan-favourite NPC the Burglar. With a recent teaser released by The Sims on Twitter, it looks like burglars may be making a return to the franchise this week! Because there has been so much rumour and speculation, I thought it best to remind everyone of the wild history these sneaky NPCs have with the franchise.

The Sims (2000)

Burglars have been a staple of the franchise since the very beginning – back in 2000. Labelled in-game as “Some Sneaky Sim”, the burglar would appear by chance as your Sims slept. These burglars would be seen creeping onto your lot in their signature black and white striped top, a black beanie, and a black mask. Players would be alerted to the presence of this criminal with an eerie musical sting, something that I’m sure still haunts players 25 years later. Take a listen below!

If your Sims are lucky enough to have an alarm placed on their lot then the police would arrive and attempt to take down the burglar. If you are caught off guard by the thief’s sudden appearance then you may be out of luck as the burglar may already be running off into the night with your valuables. If the burglar is caught then your Sims will be reimbursed by the insurance company for the stolen items and will also receive a §1000 bonus for the capture of a wanted criminal.

The Sims 2 (2004)

Burglars returned in The Sims 2 with a lot more depth and interactivity. This time each burglar had an individual identity, with many pre-made burglars such as Russ Bear in Pleasentview, and Amin Custer in Strangetown. The Sims 2 also introduced the wants and fears systems, with Sims often finding themselves with the fear of having items stolen. Burglars had a 5% chance of striking every night between 10 pm and 4 am and would steal between 1 and 3 items of high value.

If your Sims encounter the burglar they will run out of the room in panic and react similarly as they would a fire. If you direct your Sim to call the Emergency Services they will do so quickly and will whisper into the handset of the phone. A police officer will arrive and try to fight the burglar, however, there is a chance they will lose and the intruder will escape. Sims will then cry over stolen objects and have a greater chance of developing a fear of repeat incidences. If the burglar is apprehended they will be placed in the back of the police car and your Sims will again be reimbursed the monetary value of objects stolen. If your house is alarmed and nothing is stolen then your household will be rewarded §500 for capturing the criminal.

A unique feature of The Sims 2 is the ability for your Sim to free the burglar from the back of the police car. The police officer will then scold your Sim for their actions. If the player has The Sims 2 Late Night Expansion Pack and their households own a car then a car alarm can be installed to prevent it from being stolen. If a burglar walks near an alarmed car then the car will notify the police and they will immediately arrive.

The Sims 3 (2009)

Similar to the previous two entries in the mainline franchise burglars make their return in The Sims 3 in 2009. This time around burglars will target wealthy households and your Sims can call the police to attend the scene. Again, alarms can be purchased in the Build-Buy catalogue and will sound when a burglar enters the room, so this is best placed by the front and back doors of the property. If the intruder is apprehended the stolen items will be returned to the household inventory rather than the value being returned in simoleons.

If a burglar escapes in their vehicle they can be followed back to their hideout at the criminal career rabbit hole lot. Sims can join the Criminal career and can join the Thief branch to attain the rank of burglar. While this does not allow Sims to break into houses, Sims with the kleptomaniac trait can steal up to three items per day. With The Sims 3 Pets Expansion Pack, you can command cats and dogs to guard the house which will actually raise the chance of a burglar attempting to break in, however, your cat or dog will scare off the intruder. If your Sim has a child with an NPC burglar then there is a chance that the child will have the ability to “Sneak Here” once they become a teenager.

The Sims 4 (2014 – present)

With a recent teaser posted by The Sims over on Twitter, simmers are excited about the imminent addition of burglars. While nothing is confirmed at this point, all signs point to their return to the franchise.

In The Sims 4 Base Game Sims can be given the Kleptomaniac trait which, like The Sims 3, allows Sims to steal objects from other homes and community lots. The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack introduced the break-in feature for the first time in the franchise. Combining these two gameplay elements allows Sims in the current household to become burglars, however, we have yet to see the return of the burglar in The Sims 4.

In 2018 rumours were floating around the community on the lack of burglars being down to it potentially being ‘triggering’ to some players. SimSuruGrant debunked this on Twitter in an exchange with @Iron_Cgull.

Yeah, there was a rumour going around last year that someone within EA (but not someone at Maxis) had information that burglars aren’t coming to the game because they’re too triggering for this generation of players

That is 100% false. While I think it is good and proper for us to consider situations that might trigger folks – seriously, I do – this isn’t why burglars don’t currently exist. Furthermore, we would never implement them in a way that would do so, I hope.

This rumour has continued to resurface lately with recent hints and speculation surrounding the return of Burglars to The Sims 4. Many players also mistook the ‘Shady Sim’ NPC from the upcoming Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack as a replacement for the Burglar NPC, complaining that The Sims 4 is too “family-friendly”. However, from recent leaks and the recent tweet from The Sims, it looks like these two NPCs are separate from one another.

It’s confirmed. The big mystery Sims 4 Patch is releasing February 25th.

There’s no more rumors about the release date for the upcoming Sims 4 Mystery Update release. Reliable modder and everyone’s favorite TurboDriver has confirmed that The Sims 4’s big patch release is slated for February 25th!

The February 25th game patch (1.113.277) is about to come out and this could mean trouble for mods! The expansion pack release on March 6th might require some mods to update again too. Play in offline mode or without mods enabled and stay tuned for mods updates!

The Sims 4 Mystery Update Release Details

The next big Sims 4 Update is set to release across PC, Mac, Playstation and Xbox supported platforms on February 25th, 2025. The assumed release time for this patch is set around 8AM PT / 5PM CET / 4PM GMT. I’ve made this assumption considering that Maxis has to unlock the last week of Blast From The Past Live event just an hour after The Sims 4 Mystery Update Release.

EA teases the next Sims 4 Base Game Update

We’ll get to hear a lot more about the big new Sims 4 Update next week!

The next Sims 4 Base Game Update is so big that it has its own segment during the next official livestream! Last time this happened was for Growing Together and Infants in 2023 when these two major features shared the Livestream spotlight.

Electronic Arts has published an official livestream page for their upcoming Expansion release. The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Livestream is set for February 28th at 10AM PT / 7PM CET / 6PM BT.

There’s been a lot of teasers so far about what the next Sims 4 Base Game Update could entail, so we included all the findings about the next patch so far.

Build Mode UI Update

The Sims 4 Base Game Update seems to cover minor tweaks and improvements to the user interface. Sims player @GrabciiooSims on X tagged us on the change they’ve spotted in the latest Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Gameplay Trailer. Pointing out that the icons for Dining Room and Study have been revamped.

For reference, this is what the current Sims 4 Build Mode Menu UI looks like for Objects By Room category. It seems The Sims Team has done a good job clearing any possible confusion between these two!

Tattoo Updates

The next Sims 4 Base Game Update is also going to include new Tattoo options free of charge! Sure, the extra features that come with Businesses & Hobbies like Custom Paint Mode, Stencils and new Tattoo designs sure look nice. Still, there are going to be extra new designs for Sims 4 Base Game players too. For example, the chin face tattoo that you can see down below:

As shown in the reveal trailer for The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies, there are a couple of new Tattoo designs shown in the User Interface that appear to be Base Game.

The gameplay reveal trailer for the upcoming Sims 4 Expansion Pack has shown the new Tattoo sliders in action. Like transparency, contrast and others you’ve seen for makeup and skin tones in Create A Sim.

The Sims Team hasn’t confirmed this yet, but I’m confident this feature is going to be free of charge for The Sims 4 Base Game players.

New NPC – The Burglar?

We’ve been reporting about the speculation of Burglars returning to The Sims 4 on February 25th. The Sims Team has already teased a big surprise for February 25th, and many theories are leading up to that surprise being Burglars.

There’s currently no official confirmation as of now regarding this. But we’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more!

Sims 4 Update Release Time & Date

February 24th Article Update: We now know the release time of the next Sims 4 Patch! Including a confirmation that the next Update will also include Burglars! Click here to join the countdown until the patch release.

If we look at all the evidence gathered so far, the next Sims 4 Base Game Update could be released either on Tuesday (Feb 25th) or Friday (Feb 28th). Maxis set the date for their next livestream on Friday featuring coverage on the next Sims 4 Base Game Update and Expansion. Although we don’t know yet if the Patch will be released before the stream, during or after. At least not yet!

There is a higher chance for EA to release the update earlier in the week than later considering some additional hotfixes and bug reporting might need to be done. We know that there’s going to be Bug Improvements and Fixes thanks to the latest Sims 4 Laundry List. Now the question remains is when!

This is a good reminder to backup all your Sims 4 save game files. Expect a lot of potential changes behind the scenes in Create A Sim, for which Sims 4 CAS Mods might be most affected. Just in case, make sure all your Mods & CC are disabled when ensuring a healthy Sims 4 Base Game Update process, and stay in loop with your favorite Modders and CC creators for mod updates.

February 20, 2025 Patch Notes: 

The Sims 1 Update Notes

Fixed Issues: 

  • General stability improvements
  • Addressed video player issues
  • Performance improvement with AMD GPUs
  • On some systems, walls, floors and other items might not appear on screen
  • The game could crash when zooming in/out of Calamity Forest
  • Child Sims would sometimes show a “Missing Animation” error when interacting with mail
  • On some computers set to 2k resolution, visual artifacts or tearing could be present on various game screens
  • The blue panel on the bottom of the screen did not properly fill the horizontal space
  • Tiles near pool edges sometimes displayed as empty and grey
  • The Burglar appearing could crash the game

The Sims General Notes: 

  • The game by default adopts the aspect ratio of the monitor it is run on. The aspect ratio can now be specified with the launch option “-maxaspect::” (note that underbars ‘_’ can be used instead of colons). Examples: -maxaspect:16:9, -maxaspect_4_3 or bespoke ones like -maxaspect:16:10
    • Note that the option will only set the aspect of height to width. It will only restrict the maximum width – it can not increase it
    • In windowed mode, the window will run at the aspect ratio; at fullscreen black bars will fill the unused space of the monitor
    • This will mostly be useful in situations where your monitor (virtual or real) is very wide, but you want the game to be a more traditional aspect ratio
    • Note that there are limitations on how extreme a ratio this will accept
  • There are some hardware configurations that we are seeing a disproportionate number of errors on and are actively investigating. 
  • Some players who have experienced problems with getting an error indicating a lack of Vulkan compatible devices have reported that in some cases removing “OpenCL™, OpenGL®, and Vulkan® Compatibility Pack” can resolve the issue
  • We have received reports of “random flies” appearing. This is working as designed

The Sims 2 Update Notes

Fixed Issues: 

  • General Stability improvements
  • In some situations, the game would show an error indicating “too many iterations”
  • Modular staircases could not be deleted and could be a source of infinite money
  • The dog Sim is missing from the household after moving to a lot
  • The Design Tool palette chooser pop-up could go off screen and not be able to be dismissed or interacted with
  • Music tracks by Depeche Mode and Natasha Bedingfield have been restored
  • The mouse pointer, Sim names, and Info Panel tooltips in build/buy were sometimes not properly aligned
  • Beach lots could sometimes have incorrect terrain paint

The Sims 2 General notes: 

  • In some cases, issues that have now been addressed might have corrupted game saves from before they were addressed (e.g. when Sims could disappear, Sims can’t eat cooked food, etc). In these cases, please try starting a fresh save as the game won’t be able to correct the corruption, and working with corrupted saves may lead to unexpected behavior. 
  • While the Alien Abduction scene now works, the scene is still missing the alien baby. We’ll continue working on that. In the meantime, you will have the alien baby in the game once the scene is done. 
  • Some players have tried using Windows shortcut keys to move the full-screen game to another monitor. When in full-screen mode, the game should not be moved to another monitor or this may cause issues.

There may be issues not listed here that are in the process of being addressed as certain issues require an extended investigation on our end. Even though these fixes may be in active review, it’s not a guarantee that we’ll have an immediate fix for it in an upcoming patch.

An official EA Survey about the next Sims 4 Expansion Pack themes surfaces the web!

A brand new The Sims 4 Expansion Packs Survey has surfaced the internet, revealing seven intriguing themes that EA and Maxis are considering for development. To our surprise, there are THREE Sims 4 Expansion Pack themes which revolve around Cars and Mobile Vehicles.

There are Expansion Pack themes like Ocean Exploration and Van Life which we originally reported about back in September 2024. In the mix are also new themes like Reality TV, Community Careers and more.

The images for the newest survey surfaced on X before they got quickly taken down. You won’t be able to parttake in the survey generally as this latest Sims 4 Expansion Packs Survey is close circle only! We’ll make sure to keep you posted if any public surveys surface in the meantime.

Multiple clues about The Sims 4 Burglars Update have accumulated over the last few weeks ever since our first report on the rumors. From in-game teases in the current Sims 4 Live Event to creator reports on the big release next week – here’s everything we know about the current speculation about Burglars coming back to The Sims 4:

Alright, I know I can’t let go of the Milk Carton Theory but it seems that everything’s aligning perfectly in the third week of the Blast From The Past Event. Giving some new contextual clues about the possible Sims 4 Burglars Update.

The name of the Milk Carton is “Some Sneaky Sim, Not A Raccoon”. Giving insight about what The Sims Team teased on their social media last week. Showing a Shady Raccoon NPC with a tail and everything!

It was revealed in the earlier version of The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Game Code that the Shady NPC is a new character with this Expansion Pack.

However, Maxis still wants you to make sure to not get these two mistaken. The Milk Carton Theory worked for The Sims 1 and Sims 2 Rerelease hints, so I won’t be surprised to see the same happen for this potential Sims 4 Burglars Update.

The Laundry List Preparations

EA published a brand new The Sims 4 Laundry List yesterday, detailing a list of bug fixes and issues players should expect to be resolved in the next Sims 4 Update. If we were to look at the pattern of releases between previous Laundry List and Updates, new Sims 4 Updates usually happen a week after the list is published.

Something’s definitely happening exclusively for The Sims 4 on February 25th, 2025, according to the first official Sims 4 Roadmap for 2025. And many believe this date is specifically hinting at the Sims 4 Burglars Update release.

There are also valid theories about the Restoration Workshop Kit being about Sims 4 Cars. And that February 25th is instead a Cars update. Still, we also thought that there would be multiple hobbies in the upcoming Pack rather than just two. SimMattically, who we mentioned numerous times for speculations related to The Sims Rereleases and the Life & Death Pack Theme is back with a new cryptic tweet. This time suggesting that The Sims 4 Burglars Update is happening next week on February 25th.
