Uhm…who could that be?

The upcoming launch of the Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack seems to carry a mysterious new Sims 4 Character that’s yet to be revealed. We’ve seen “a Sim” wrapped in a fishy undercover costume in one of the Extended Key Features for Businesses & Hobbies. And now, there’s a new video teaser released by Electronic Arts.

Feb 13th, 2025 Finding – New Leak

A new finding from @CBXSims confirms the name of the new Sims 4 Character. At least from the in-development files of The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies back in August 2024.

The files reveal the new NPC to be titled as “Shady NPC” – with a set of exclusive buffs and Sim characteristics.

As confirmed by the creator –“He can set you little tasks as past NPCs do. He does not have the autonomy to steal”.

As for Burglars, the Rumors about the mysterious February 25th date still remains. And if they’re now related to Burglars at all…

New Sims 4 Character Teaser

The teasing continued today when The Sims Team published a new video teaser, from what seems to be the similar frame scene from the screen above. Featuring the mysterious new character rummaging through the trash can, before running away to an unknown location.

Check out the five second teaser below:

The Mysterious Character Sim has some odd features underneath their trench coat. See if you can spot anything yourself:

Could it be Burglars?

The main speculation about the new Sims 4 Character coming to the game are Burglars. Which seems to be hinted so much already through the official In-Game Event, promotional material and teasers for extra reveals. Such as the one happening on February 25th, which is believed that’s when The Sims Team will do a surprise reveal of the return of this beloved NPC character. However, nothing is fully 100% confirmed yet – that is just based on community speculation.

The Motherlode Season Roadmap

One of our readers shared an interesting find and a theory from the video teaser itself. It seems that the new Sims 4 Character is actually a bunch of Raccoons stacked one on top of each other from the looks of it. Besides the missing hands on the new NPC, there’s also a Raccoon Tail poking out when the character turns around.

TALKING

I think it’s three raccoons stacked up in a trench coat pretending to be a human. You can see that they have no human hands and there’s a visible raccoon tail. Probably a new type of burglars.

Base Game or Businesses & Hobbies Exclusive

The arrival of this mysterious new Sims 4 Character could be both an exclusive part of the new Expansion Pack, or a free Sims 4 Content Update. No official confirmation has been brought as of yet, but we do have some extra leaks from the game files.

Modders couldn’t find any new references to Burglars in the leaked game files, but they did provide a look into one of the new Raccoon inspired objects in the game.

The same Raccoon motivation can be found in the new Sims 4 Character teaser above. Raccoons love rummaging through trash, but they also love stealing objects when nobody is looking.

if the sims 4 burglar is actually a bunch of racoons in a trench coat, it would instantly become the greatest sims game of all time

I knew raccoons were coming! I saw a suspicious amount of raccoons themed objects on this pack. So excited!

Wow….raccoons….in a trench coat. hue hue hue
I’m not surprised if this is the ‘burglar’. They’d pull something like that instead of giving us what we really wanted. Just like instead of Witches and Warlocks we got Harry Potter hipsters and base game cheat codes for spells for $20.

We see this NPC in the trailer of the new expansion in front of the stores, for me it is not a thief, but a character who offers not very legal business to companies.

I’m sorry, I hate being negative but The Sims 4 is just way too goofy. Sure, The Sims has always been a somewhat quirky franchise, but this is just a cartoon at this point.

Sims 4 is way more realistic and down to earth than Sims 1 and 2 ever were lol I’m so tired of the rose-tinted glasses and nostalgia being used as an attack on Sims 4

This isn’t about rose tinted glasses, it’s about tone and style, and you know nothing about me; I love The Sims 4. Bring up how exactly The Sims 4 is in any way more down to earth than The Sims 1? Everything from animations to climbing into magic-land through trees at launch etc. is way more goofy in The Sims 4. I’m not inherently opposed to things being goofy, again, I love The Sims 4. But I seriously don’t see where you’re coming from.

The Sims 1 and 2 had a lot of goofiness to them but it was always to balance the very mature and depressing topics. The tragic clown is a very clear example: in The Sims 1 it was a mystical being that would come to cheer your sad sims up, but would instead make it worse and have your sims spiral down. It would follow your now depressed sim around the house like a dark thought, and it would be really hard to get rid of. It was a metaphor for clinical depression. In The Sims 4 it is now a goofy Easter Egg, nothing as deep as the original character, it’s just Linda from Human Resources, or any other townie wearing a wig. The franchise has always been goofy and fun but it was meaningful. The Sims 4 has lost the substance and that’s why it feels so childish at times.

“Burglar Racoons” sounds like exactly the kind of absurd workaround a big company would use to sidestep controversy. If burglars were human, people might argue about racial profiling, class stereotypes, or crime glorification. So instead, they go full cartoon logic—three raccoons in a trench coat. It keeps things goofy, sidesteps any serious discussion, and guarantees memes.

Racial stereotypes? The Sims burglar is a randomly-generated person of any race, any gender, in a cartoony striped shirt and a domino mask

It was already goofy

There’s just so much raccoon/burglar iconography in the trailer, there’s no way that isn’t three raccoons in a trench coat

I’m not so sure burglars will be this NPC actually. They teased something big coming to the basegame update on the 25th, and I always thought that the eyes emoji looked like a burglar’s mask. It is indeed also similar to the eyes of the racoon too, but this racoon NPC is clearly tied to the new EP, they used it in the promo and they don’t use basegame features for packs’ promo. I believe these will be two complete different characters, but similar in terms of development for EA. Burglars would come at night on your residential lot as they always did, and this racoon character will be bringing some chaos to your business lot: shoplifting, looking for food in your trash, trying to scam your customers, and overall acting weird and sketchy. It feels like shoplifting will be coming in the pack, and I don’t see how classic burglars could be doing that, walking in your shop dressed as burglars in broad daylight. They knew we wanted burglars, and imo they wouldn’t dare add such a heavily requested basegame feature and hide it behind a paywall. IMO They developed them for us to get for free, and then thought “ugh we have the code for burglars now, let’s milk it and make a new character for the EP that would be similar but different enough, so our next pack doesn’t feel so empty”. I know EA can’t be trusted and we never know but I don’t see how they would hint so hard at classic burglars and let us down like that. I mean they put the classic burglars outfit everywhere lately, even some racoon objects wear it, and this NPC is wearing something completely different. A trenchcoat for stacked racoons make sense because they don’t have to animate anything special, everything is hidden, but it would be a lot of animation to have racoons in the classic outfit break into your house. Bringing burglars back and hinting at them with the black and white t-shirt, for them to be racoons in a trenchcoat would be very weird marketing, even for EA. I want to believe they would learn from their mistake and give us what we actually want.

Haha oh my, what a great idea! I didn’t expect that! I like it right away! I love the lack of seriousness in the sims <3
