Pop culture and capitalism meet again!
The Sims 4 is galloping towards becoming a new vessel for advertising. Not just for Sims products, but now apparently for celebrities who have no relations to the franchise whatsoever. All through the form of Main Menu popup ads, like starting up The Sims 4 doesn't have enough popups and advertisements. If our recent article discussing the opening of an in-game advertising department at EA didn't show this change enough, the recent promotion of The Sims 4 Packs using the recent Taylor Swift wedding to Travis Kelce may do it.
EA Promotes The Sims 4 Packs Through the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Wedding
To shout out the upcoming nuptials of two celebrities who are entirely unrelated to The Sims franchise, The Sims official social media accounts posted a recreation of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift getting married in The Sims 4, featuring a custom pose for the image.

And of course, this isn't the only thing they did. Unlike their recent Euphora Shoutout to commemorate the finale of the HBO Show that did not result in anything being added to The Sims 4, EA took the opportunity to throw some advertising in there. Shocking, I know.

If you've loaded your game recently and after the recent update, you likely got a new popup that advertises pre-existing DLC for The Sims 4, including Expansions, a Game Pack, Stuff Packs, and Kits, that will help you "Tie the knot like the celebs". A primary focus is on My Wedding Stories, Lovestruck, and Get Famous, which are all to be expected. However, two other included Expansion Packs are City Living and High School years... My only guess is that San Myshuno is the closest thing The Sims 4 has to a city like New York City, and High School Years... adds football? Totally worth $40 MSRP!
The full list of recommended DLC include...
- My Wedding Stories (Game Pack)
- Lovestruck (Expansion Pack)
- Get Famous (Expansion Pack)
- High School Years (Expansion Pack)
- City Living (Expansion Pack)
- Luxury Party (Stuff Pack)
- Romantic Garden (Stuff Pack)
- Essential Glam Kit (Creator Kit)
- Party Essentials Kit (Kit)
After the reveal of The Sims 4 Stack & Save recently, it seems like we'll be seeing a lot more examples of EA & The Sims Team pushing sales and purchasing of large amounts of packs to "complete your collection" or to recreate something currently popular while players wait for bug fixes and new actual content, while not actually adding new content to the game.

Don’t be pushing Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce down our throats. Most of us don’t care about celebrities, just the quality of the game (which is why we give feedback).
