LEGO Skylines: New City Builder Revealed at Gamescom

Here at Sims Community, we love exploring the world of The Sims as well as many other life simulation games. However, there’s one more genre that has helped pave the way for many of those games from the very start. Those are city-building games. Today we want to introduce you to the recently announced city builder called LEGO Skylines. Yes, that’s right, a LEGO-themed city builder!

If you’ve been a long-time Sims Community reader, you may have seen us touch upon the likes of Cities Skylines and SimCity over the years. Plus, the Lego Skylines entry is being developed by the same publisher (Paradox Interactive) that tried to bring us a new life simulation - Life By You. Although Life By You was taken care of Paradox Tectonic, a small subdivision within Paradox that closed off with Life By You.

What is LEGO Skylines?

As part of this year’s Gamescom Opening Night Live, LEGO Skylines was revealed to the world with its first-ever trailer. With a simple click (pun intended) the trailer showcased perfectly what the game is about. To simply put it, imagine Cities Skylines and the world of LEGO combined into one game.

What we know so far

In LEGO Skylines, players can expect to manage and build the basics, such as electricity, food and water. From there, places for your LEGO citizens to live, work, study and play. Drop in a doughnut shop on almost every street corner, place a park, or have a cafe in the most random of places. Manage garbage disposal, city healthcare, farms that provide wheat for the doughnut shops and more. There’s so much that is needed to make a city well, click!

Grab your hard hat and hi-vis jacket, play around with basic ideas or let your imagination run wild. Tweak and test new ideas for some weird and wonderful gameplay experiences or find the perfect home for each and every brick.

LEGO Skylines is described as a cosy, customisable city builder where your choices help bring a thriving metropolis to life. Go big or focus on the details, no instructions needed. The only rule is to make it yours!

The game currently has no confirmed release date, but we do know that the game has been developed by Iceflake Studios (Cities Skylines II) and will be published by the Cities Skylines franchise publisher, Paradox Interactive. LEGO Skylines is a standalone game and is not a DLC for either of the Cities Skylines games.

It is also important to note that post-release, there are plans for additional downloadable content. More information will be shared by the team at a later date.

At release, the game will be launching on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

Even from such a short trailer, you can already get an idea as to what LEGO Skylines will be like. Cosy, chaotic and full of endless possibilities! It's even got the classic LEGO video game moments with the screaming fish during the opening of the trailer as well as the fireman casually eating a hotdog amongst the chaos.

Closing Thoughts

LEGO Skylines is already shaping up to be an absolute blast! A game that will be for LEGO fans young and old. One that draws on the nostalgia of early LEGO games (yes, we are talking about LEGO Loco, Island and more) as well as inspiration from more recent city-building games.
