After quite a while, The Sims 3 Games are finally on Sale on Origin!

4

It’s been a hot minute since The Sims 3 Games have ever gotten a chance to get a special promotion deal over on Origin. The game would usually be on sale every few months or so on Steam but almost never on EA’s own platform.

Now, the time has finally come for you to update your The Sims 3 collection at a special price!

The Sims 3 Expansion Packs are a part of Origin’s special Player’s Delight Sale promotion. From today until March 26th at 10AM Pacific Time you’ll be able to get all of the Expansion Packs for The Sims 3 at 50% off! That means all of the Expansion Packs are priced at 20USD each!

The Sims 3 Base Game isn’t included in this offer but you can get The Sims 3 Starter Pack for 40USD which includes The Sims 3 Late Night Expansion Pack and The Sims 3 High-End Loft Stuff pack.

Unfortunately none of the Stuff Packs, World Packs or SimPoints are included in this sale. It’s sort of weird considering during this Sale period Stuff Packs and Expansion Packs both cost 20USD each. But hey, at least the better part of the catalogue is on sale!

The Sims 4 Bust the Dust Kit Mod: Tweaks for Dust and Dust Bunnies

The Sims Team acknowledged that their new “Dust System” that came with The Sims 4 Bust the Dust Kit needs a few tweaks. They promised that the update that will fix the rapid dust accumulation is planned for release later this month, however PC / Mac players already have a quick solution thanks to the talented modding community!

Modder simmytime came up with a Mod solution that will significantly slow down the dust accumulation period, changing it from a few hours to a few days:

Much slower dust accumulation
The EA default is ridiculous. Within 5 hours my Sim living alone had a dirty house! So with this mod, dust will collect much more slowly – the time they take to accumulate has been more than halved. Dust starts to gather at around 3-4 days, which I think is much more realistic. It would also take a good week and a half for your home to become filthy: again, much more realistic.

There’s another small mod included in the linked page below which completely gets rid of dust bunnies and their spawning!

To install these mods simply extract the .zip files to Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods folder and ensure you have Mods / CC enabled in your game options!

The Sims 5 is planned to have “Story” and “Narrative” Features

6

New information about Maxis developing a brand new Sims Game (or The Sims 5 as we call it) keeps on surfacing!

We’ve already done a few reports about The Sims 5 and what it might include, such as:

All of this information came directly from plenty of new job listings that have been posted on the official Maxis Careers website. Today, there’s a brand new job opportunity listed on the website searching for a Senior Narrative Designer to develop prototypes and final versions of, what appears to be, a Story Mode for the next Sims game.

Before I dive deeper into the interesting information that was listed in the new job opportunity please note that this is almost certain information regarding the next Sims game. Career opportunities listed on Maxis Careers that are meant for The Sims 4 are marked as such while the opportunities for the next Sims game are marked just as “The Sims” and mention information such as creating a whole new game, prototyping, new software development tools that are outside The Sims 4’s software scope and more. It’s also worth mentioning that none of the talks about the next Sims Game will impact the current development and content release for The Sims 4 considering that Maxis has different teams working on different projects within the studio. It was also confirmed that Packs will continue to be released regularly as before, along with the new Kits that will have a more frequent release schedule compared to Packs.

Now that we have all the disclaimers out of the way let’s talk about what was mentioned in the Senior Narrative Designer opportunity!

The introduction to the Senior Narrative Designer job opportunity briefly explained what the role is all about, mentioning:

As a Senior Narrative Designer on The Sims, you’ll report to the Creative Director and work with a team of enthusiastic industry craftspeople from all walks of life. You will use your passion and knowledge to lead the development of the narrative experience from initial prototypes through final design.

You will work with your engineering, design, XD, UXR and Production partners, along with using feedback and research insights to create experiences that surprise, delight, and invite millions of gamers around the world to Play with Life.

This vaguely confirms that the next Sims game will have a “narrative experience” and that the future Senior Narrative Designer will have to help develop this new experience from initial prototypes through final design. However, this just scratches the surface of what Maxis is planning for this game. The responsibilities of a Senior Narrative Designer talk a lot about the game having a “narrative vision” within a “non-linear simulation experience”. Some of the other key responsibilites have been highlighted below:

Responsibilities

Guide the delivery of the following:

  • Define and and maintain the narrative vision of the project.
  • Explore new ways to bring characters to life and create emotional experiences in a non-linear simulation experience.
  • Work with multiple disciplines to direct and implement the characters, settings, goals, and conflicts from drafts in game.
  • Work with the tools team to improve workflow and processes.
  • Create design documentation to support prototyping efforts.
  • Partner with Development Directors to track tasks, identify risk, and clarify changes in work.
  • Partner with UX to design, research, and implement features, particularly for introducing narrative elements and decisions.
  • Aid team leadership in gathering presentation materials.
  • Playtest, attend UXR sessions, and participate in organizing feedback/insights.
  • Document findings for future use in Sims development.

Still, that’s not all. The qualifications section of this job opportunity have revealed which knowledge and qualifications should the future Senior Narrative Designer have.

Qualifications

  • Significant Narrative Game Genre design experience, especially in the area of creating the production pipeline to integrate story with the gameplay.
  • Significant experience writing fictional stories, ideally interactive experiences.
  • Capability to lead cross-discipline prototyping and idea iteration, actively participating in the development of a feature from start to finish.
  • Experience with young adult fiction, pop-culture stories, in particular romantic narratives.
  • Hands-on implementation for an interactive experience or mod.
  • Excited by and helping define new business and distribution models like live services through the lens of narrative elements.
  • Knowledge of popular interactive story machinima or mod communities a plus (ex: The Sims, Episode, Grand Theft Auto Online).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills required.

All of these qualifications hint heavily at the possibility of the next Sims game having a story-based feature that’s more than just pre-made household lore that we’ve been met with in the past, especially The Sims 2 and The Sims 3.

Considering that they’ve mentioned decision making, interactive narrative experience all within different story types that are popular today could mean that the game will have a whole Story-driven gameplay – something similar to what we’ve had in The Sims Stories spin-off era.

The Sims 5 is planned to have “Story” and “Narrative” Features

Be aware that none of this is 100% certain on what the final game could turn out to be considering that the new team at Maxis is still prototyping various features. EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed that the game will stay true to its core while also exploring new ways to play The Sims.

Considering that so far we’ve had clues and information about the next Sims Game including…

  • “The game will stay true to its core”
  • It’s being prototyped in a massive, Unreal Engine software used by major game developers
  • Will have competitive, online and “subscription-based” features
  • …and now is planned to have a non-linear Simluation, Narrative, Story-driven experience

…It’s almost certain that the next Sims game will be more than just one thing.

There’s a lot we don’t know about for The Sims 5 and the game is still early in development but it’s definitely interesting to see what Maxis is planning for the game.

UPDATE: SimGuruNick has released a few more bugs and issues that The Sims Team is currently actively investigating!

The Sims Team has published their first ever Laundry List for The Sims 4 – addressing the most important bugs and issues in the game that the team has prioritized to fix in time for the next game update. Check out the official post below!

Hi Simmers!

Welcome to the first publication of the Laundry List where we’ll share a list of the top community concerns that we’re currently investigating and hope to have resolved in the upcoming patch.

These concerns were reported by players who help us continue our work of improving the user experience on a regular basis.

Please note that some topics can be tricky and require an extended investigation on our end, so even though we are actively investigating it’s not a guarantee that we’ll have an immediate fix for it in the upcoming patch.

Also note that this is just a list of the “top” concerns. There are more topics that we saw reported by players that are not listed and being worked on.

So, without further ado, here is a list of the top community concerns we’re currently investigating:

Thanks for all your patience and valuable help! Please continue telling us about any issues you’re experiencing on Answers HQ, we’ll continue to work on improving our transparency, and together we can make this game the best that it can be. Happy Simming!

The Sims 5 might have a Competitive Mode

15

More news regarding the development of the next Sims Game, or as we call The Sims 5, have surfaced on the official website for Maxis Careers.

3 new job positions have opened up in EA Redwood, EA Austin and EA Canada all looking for a Backend Software Enginner who will help develop features and prototypes for an upcoming Sims game. In the listing they’ve stated that they’re looking for software engineers who are capable of developing massively scalable and reliable web services that will support millions of players, as well as other responsibilites during the game’s development.

In the listing they’ve mentioned a particularly interesting task regarding web services and “cheating prevention”:

  • Develop responsive, resilient, massively scalable, and globally available web services that support millions of players
  • Creatively blend security best practices and original techniques to keep user data secure and prevent cheating

In case you’re out of the loop in regards of other competitive video games, cheating is something that video game companies are battling with in their competitive, multiplayer and online video game franchises. There are plenty of 3rd party tools out there that illegally allow players to advance and “cheat” in their game and developers are always looking for new solutions and updates that will prevent players from doing so.

This isn’t the first time that “competitive” features have been mentioned for the next Sims game. Andrew Wilson, EA’s CEO has stated in the beginnning of 2020 that they’re actively thinking about bringing competition features to the next Sims game, inspired by the features of The Sims Online that was present in early 2000s.

As Maxis continues to think about The Sims for a new generation – cross-platforms and a cloud of a neighborhood world, you should imagine while we will always stay true to our inspiration, escape, creation, self-improvement, motivations – that this notion of social interactions and competition like the kind of things that were actually present in The Sims Online many many years ago – that they will start to become a part of The Sims experience in the years to come.

We are very excited. This is a game that really doesn’t have any competition in its category for delivering and fulfilling these motivations for players and we think of the tremendous growth opportunities for us for many many years to come.

There’s plenty of more clues and information regarding the development of the next Sims Game. You can catch up on that information in our The Sims 5 News Category!

You will report to a Development Director for the backend services team and the bulk of your work will be done in Java and Kotlin, using the Spring Boot framework, deployed to Kubernetes in the Google Cloud Platform.

The Sims 4 Bust the Dust Kit will receive a Tuning Fix

0

The Sims 4’s latest Gameplay Kit – Bust the Dust comes with new vacuums and a “Dust System” that lets any residental home get dusty and dirty over time. However, many have reported that the dust system is being too agressive on their residental lots with dust and dirt accumulating way too quickly on each story of a home.

There’s also a gameplay mechanic within the game where befriended dust bunnies make it way too easy for your Sims to get rich by finding Simoleons in every corner of your house.

These type of issues should all be resolved this month according to The Sims on Twitter. The update that should fix these problems with this Kit is scheduled for release “later this month”.

The Sims 4 Kits purchases are disappearing from Origin

5

UPDATE: The issue seems to be completely resolved for all of the 3 Kits according to SimQARobo on EA Answers!

The Sims 4 Kits aren’t having the best launch at the moment. Beside the tuning issues and glitches that keep occuring with The Sims 4 Bust the Dust Kit, people have also started reporting that their purchased The Sims 4 Kits are disappearing altogether from their Origin Game Library.

Many community members have reported that their The Sims 4 Kits have simply “vanished” from their Game Library even though that they’ve made a valid purchase through Origin a few days ago.

The Sims 4 Kits purchases are disappearing from Origin

The issue has occured to many users and the same scenario keeps happening for all of the 3 Kits. It’s especially problematic because the Origin client keeps “forgetting” that the purchase for a certain Kit was made – asking the player to make another purchase of the Kit even though they’ve already done so.

EA Help has released an official reply acknowledging the issue, saying:

Thank you for reaching out to us. I know how frustrating it is to suddenly have content you’ve purchased go missing like this, and you’re not alone! There is an issue going on with Origin causing these kits to show up as unowned, and this is being investigated by our games team now. There’s nothing wrong with the purchase itself or with your account, and the kits should show back up like normal once the issue is resolved. I’d recommend keeping an eye out both here on Twitter and on our forums (  ) for updates and feel free to check back with us too, as we’ll be happy to share any new details we have.

Hopefully the issue gets resolved quick! We’ll make sure to update you as soon as it gets resolved.

Indigo_Builds – Gardener’s Mobile Home

Sims Community Share: The Sims 4 Builds of the week!

Why I Love This Build

I mean… what’s not to love? I am a sucker for any build with a trillion plants, but this build has such a unique shape and look that just really sang to me. I love mobile home builds, but this one was definitely a little bit different to those that I have seen before. I love the little garden with the tree stumps, I adore the general colour scheme and honestly, I just want to live there in the sims and in real life. When can I move in?

Myshunosun – Senbamachi Square

Why I Love This Build

I literally fell in love with this little square as soon as the lovely Myshunosun tagged me in their beautiful creation on Twitter. The first thing I noticed about this build was the stunning, warm colour palette, it’s so inviting. I also really love the little seating area gazebo they’ve created outside.

The inside of each little building is just as gorgeous as the outside too. The attention to detail is amazing and I can’t wait to include this build into my game.

Why I Love This Build

Ahhhhh this townhouse is adorable! If you have a University save then this build will fit in just perfectly. Every time I look at this build closely, I notice something different that I just love. From the beautiful colours they’ve chosen to the inspired driveway and not to mention the attention to detail on the outside wall foliage.

Each of these little townhouses also has the cutest of back gardens for the ultimate University parties. I can’t wait to move my University sims in!

Why I Love This Build

The angles… do I need to say more? This build is an absolute master class in building in my opinion! I love everything about this build – The clean lines and colours, the simplicity, it’s just perfection. I really appreciate the window indents they have created for this, and the simple but effective use of the platform tool for the steps leading up to the front door.

The inside of this build is just as beautiful as the outside… make sure you check out the really cool fireplace and corner sofa they have made. It’s safe to say I am SUPER jealous of the sim that gets to live here.

Why I Love This Build

I really love seeing how Simmers can create beautiful starter builds… and this one is utter perfection. The outside has a beautifully clean design, whilst the inside is cosy, fresh, charming and incredibly homely all at the same time. Eco lifestyle is one of my favourite packs, so I really like the use of its items in the build.

Finished off with the cutest, loveliest landscaping, a brand new sim will be incredibly lucky to have this as their starter home.

Let’s talk about The Sims 4 Kits

A few days ago, The Sims team released the first of three new Kits. Kits are smaller bite sized pieces of additional content that offer even more variety and options to The Sims 4.  The first three Kits that were released are Bust The Dust, Country Kitchen and the Throwback Fit Kits. Even though the reveal of the Kits didn’t quite go to plan with the information being discovered after the most recent update, an official announcement, livestream and release followed on 2nd March.

From the moment that the new Kits were discovered, the news was met with very mixed reactions. While some members of the community were curious to find out more about the first three Kits, there were many who shared their concerns. There was a number of questions popping up about Kits; whether they had an impact on future content, why are Kits now a new type of pack and more. The Sims team proceeded to answer some of the communities burning questions in a forum post.

Let’s talk about The Sims 4 Kits

Now, this isn’t the first time that The Sims team have tried something a little different. Back in March 2018 we saw the release of The Sims 4 My First Pet Stuff. This was the fourteenth Stuff Pack released for The Sims 4, except to be able to utilize all aspects of the stuff pack, you needed to also own The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs expansion pack. From the start, this pack’s release received mixed feedback, although it was met with more negative than positive feedback. Even now, nearly three years since its release, the pack is still subjected to mixed opinions and we haven’t seen another release like this since.

It is a bit of a surprise to suddenly see a new type of pack nearly seven years into The Sims 4’s lifetime and it does raise some questions. Is there a need for them? Will this be something we will continue to see released during the rest of  The Sims 4’s life? Are they worth it? There are numerous questions that come to mind the more you think about the Kits.

I spent a lot of time reading through various tweets over the past few days both prior to the official announcement of Kits and the few days after. There was a lot to take in and there was a variety of positive and negative feedback. Yesterday I made my own tweet asking the community how they felt about the new Kits.

Firstly, I was blown away by the response I got to this tweet. Over 200 replies and still counting now as I write this. As I read through each of the replies, there were several concerns that clearly stood out and were consistent from many of the replies I received.

  • The cost of the Kits and how that varies depending on which country you are in.

  • The themes should be covered in either a Stuff Pack, Game Pack, Expansion Pack or Game Update

    • They should be part of the base game or free/ there isn’t a clear need for more additional content options.

  • While these are all valid points, I hope over time The Sims Team could potentially address these and many more of the community’s concerns about Kits. However, the feedback wasn’t all negative. There are many players who shared positive feedback about the Kits.

  • Like the option to have smaller Kits that can cater for more niche themes that don’t necessarily fit in a normal pack.

  • Great for Console players who don’t have the option to use Custom Content.

  • Love the smaller kits and the variety instead of being tied to a pack

Overall, the feedback hasn’t seemed more one-sided than the other; there was a good mixture of varying feedback from both sides. Even players who were undecided about the Kits, whether because of the pricing or the current themes, seemed to be optimistic that it was something they may consider in the future. There was also a number of players who spoke about seeing The Sims Team collaborate with custom content creators for future Kits.

It’s somewhat important to remember that The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 both had their own online stores. These offered you the opportunity to purchase smaller pieces of content. Could this be The Sims 4’s version of the store?

Personally, I’m still undecided on Kits and I feel that it’s too early to truly tell how I feel about them. I think that it was a good idea to release these three together as they targeted three different areas of the game with gameplay, Create A Sim and Build mode content. It gives you an idea as to how flexible Kits can be and how they can target different areas of the game. I do wish they had considered bundling them together or offered a discount if you were buying them individually. I would like to hope The Sims team also address the concerns about the pricing of Kits.

Going forward, I’m going to stay optimistic and curious about the future of Kits. I doubt it will be long before we find out more about the next Kits and when they are due to be released. It is reassuring though that they won’t have any impact on future stuff, game of expansion packs. The fact they are so small does give the team scope to explore many themes that wouldn’t really work as well maybe in a pack on its own.  I’ve seen some great ideas popping up on Twitter which could potentially work well in a Kits format, some of which tied into hobbies, sports specific and even world Kits. Providing they are done in the right way, I think Kits could work really well, especially for console players!

What are your thoughts on the new The Sims 4 Kits, and what are some themes you’d love to see covered by them in the future?
