The Sims 4’s upcoming Expansion Pack seems to be nearly finished!
EA Careers website has updated their website with some new job listings, and included in those listings are two new job positions looking for Voice Editors to help ship the upcoming expansion pack for The Sims 4!
The listing is looking for a Voice Editor who will be working in a 2 months term to help finalize voices and audio for the next Expansion Pack.
The Maxis Studio of Electronic Arts is seeking a Voice Editor to join the Audio team and help ship an upcoming expansion pack for The Sims 4.
The ideal candidate should have experience delivering final quality audio either from a brief or starting with placeholder sounds in software. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within technical limitations to deliver quality audio are essential. It’s also important that the candidate understands the role of audio in video games; and can create final content to best effect the player experience.
This isn’t the only scenario where a Voice Editor job listing predicted that a new Expansion Pack is close to being announced. Back in July 2019 we’ve posted about the Voice Editor Job Listing and predicted that an Expansion Pack would be coming our way by the end of 2019. Just a few months after in October 2019 – Discover University was announced!
If we could predict the time when The Sims 4’s 9th Expansion Pack could be announced – it would either be sometime during summer or even late spring – at EA Play 2020.
What do you think the next Expansion Pack is all about? Let us know in the comments!
Voting has now begun for the fourth round of the new Community Voted Stuff Pack! This round of voting is all about choosing your favourite Build/Buy Mode items based around the DIY Delight theme.
Not sure what the Community Stuff Pack is all about? You can find out more here.
At this point, we’re well underway in the development process of our upcoming The Sims™ 4 Community Voted arts-and-crafts-themed Stuff Pack. As a community, you’ve picked your favorite gameplay feature (knitting!) and art style (DIY delight!) for the pack. Round three of the voting, though, starts to take us into the particular assets you’ll see with Create A Sim clothing choices.
In the time since the voting ended, we’ve parsed the data, finalized the selections, and gone through an informal internal approval process to ensure the pack’s offerings are well balanced. From the whopping ninety-two pieces of CAS concept art presented, your votes helped narrow it down to the top fifteen pieces you see below. (Some of them are even craftable in-game!)
Without further ado, these are the clothing options that will be included in this upcoming Stuff Pack:
Over the next couple of weeks, our concept artists will be creating more art for the next vote in early March, when you will be able to help us settle on the objects we move forward with. Until then, you can start planning the perfect outfits for your Sims to wear while crafting!
Visit The Sims Forums, catch up with us on Twitter and Instagram, like us on Facebook, subscribe to our YouTube channel, and sign up for The Sims 4 newsletter to stay up to date and speculate about the objects you might get from the next vote.
See you for Round 4 in March!
Let us know what you think of the results in the comments below!
The 20th anniversary of the sims has been a little bit controversial. People expressed their disappointment about the infamous hot tub on forums and on social media. Even the people who stated they did not expect anything special frowned upon that so-called gift. Whether EA / Maxis welcomes it or not, the vocal community of the sims is the best part of this franchise. Such passion, such resolve, such dedication must be rewarded. And it must be rewarded with something greater than a hot tub, as the community stated very clearly.
For this reason, I decided that maybe we should celebrate those who keep rewarding us with their creations without getting paid for it.
I want to thank all modders and CC creators on behalf of the community, for putting so much hard work and effort into enhancing our gameplay experience for two decades by now.
You deserve all the gratitude and praise in the world! I would love to shout out some of them like,
Scumbumbo (RIP), who passed away as I drafted this article, for creating so many mods not only for players but also for mod-makers,
Deaderpool, for MCCC and for the most helpful discord community I have ever been to,
KawaiiStacie, for Slice of Life and many other family-gameplay mods,
roBurky, for Meaningful Stories and teaching our sims how to control their emotions,
LittleMsSam, for numerous mods big and small that fixes many annoyances,
TurboDriver, for the personality and attraction systems of Wicked Whims Mod,
Nraas, for introducing so many gameplay mods like better story progression to the Sims 3 to enhance our experience,
Numenor, for the sims 2 mods like color enabler package, any game starter and many more,
Pescado, for creating many ‘AwesomeMod’s and founding the PMBD, which was a bold move in favor of the community back in days,
Eric, for creating the infamous InSIMenator for the sims 2 back in days when we did not have so many alternatives, and of course for the insimenator forums’ drama,
Warlokk, Marvine & BeosBoxBoy (RIP), for creating custom body meshes for the sims 2 when we didn’t have diverse body shapes and sliders,
All websites like ModtheSimsand TheSimsResource, for giving modders and CC creators a place to upload their work,
And of course, all bloggers like Lana CC Finds and MaxisMatchCCWorld, for reporting and collecting mods and custom content in a user-friendly manner,
Thank you all!
You all are amazing and we are forever in your debt! Not all heroes wear capes after all 🙂
PS: Everyone, let’s pamper them a little bit! Write all the compliments about your favorite Mod/CC creators down in the comments! Let us and them know what you like most about their work! I will also check your comments every now and then to expand the list with the names I consider fit! Thanks for your contribution!
Just a small update this time to address a couple of issues and enable the Maxis Curated filter on console. Not really a lot more to say so… erm… Here we go…

The Sims franchise celebrated its twentieth birthday earlier this week and what an amazing twenty years it has been! For each and every one of us who has ever played any of The Sims games at any time during the games life, we will be able to recall numerous memories from playing. That could be a funny moment while playing, our favourite Sims to play, a build that we loved creating and so much more.
I went ahead and asked the Sims Community Team members to join me in sharing some of their own memories from The Sims franchise over the years.
ThePropertySims
My first encounters with The Sims were when I was very young, and I was somewhat sheltered as a kid. My friend introduced me to it, and also the “Woohoo” feature. To me, it was just a way to get a baby to spawn, but my mom was NOT HAVING IT. I can’t count the number of times I’d look over my shoulder and she’d be there making sure I wasn’t Woohooing too much or inappropriately. The Sims Makin’ Magic holds a really special place in my heart. I played that into the dirt. Bonehilda was, and will always be, my girl! I think I placed her with every family even if it didn’t make sense to. I mean, who wouldn’t want an awesome skeleton maid? Through the years I’ve watched this game evolve, and I’ve grown with it too. Through each stage of my life, The Sims has been there. It’s amazing to reflect back and realize that for 20 years of my life I’ve been enamoured with this game, and have absolutely no intention to ever stop playing it!
Honnahoops
My first memory of The Sims is quite funny to me now, but at the grand age of nine, The Sims 2 was the first Sims game I played. My mum told me that it was too “mature”, so the only time I got to play was at my friend’s house. I’d sneak over after school, pretend we were doing homework, and play together. We’d take it in turns to control the Sims and fight over who got to be the one to press “WooHoo”, not really knowing what it really meant. This takes me onto my next memory (and something I really miss from The Sims 4) is all the spontaneity of The Sims 2, tragic things happened without you knowing it would, your Sims could have a breakdown if their needs got too low, and it was definitely more dramatic if your Sim got turned down at the altar! One time, my Sim had a breakdown, and got left at the altar by scumbag Don Lothario after she caught him cheating on her with Cassandra Goth… she didn’t survive long after that to find out what happened next…

The Sims has been a real influence in my real life for the last 15 years if not 20. I have been playing the Sims since the first incarnation of the game but it actually became an important part of my life when I became a teenager and the Sims 2 got released. The game was revolutionary. It even helped me to choose my real-life profession. I never needed to search for gameplay mods or anything like that, I didn’t even know they were a thing until the Sims 3 when I faced some issues with gameplay. For this reason, the Sims 2 will forever be my top favourite Sims game. It felt like a surreal version of real life, my decisions in the Sims 2 actually had an impact on my Sims’ lives yet the game still maintained its fantasy and hilarious sense of humour. I still remember seeing various elements from the game for the first time, as one of my sims having the first-ever breakdown and seeing the shrink, interacting with social bunny, having to move from a haunted house, summoning a zombie… They were the best! It is a shame that we don’t have that level of depth in the Sims 4. One might assume such features would improve and advance with later incarnations of the game but… at least we have more advanced CAS & BB tools, right? I can’t wait for the outcomes of the latest community survey though, I still have hope!
I wanna close my part with a meme I’ve created from a funny screenshot from the Sims 4. In this picture, the mother witch looks like she is threatening Grim Reaper to bring his son back from death. PS: I wish spellcasters actually had that kind of interaction with the Grim, sims 4 could never though…
Snarky Witch
“I’ve been playing The Sims and telling my stories with them since the original game, but back in the early days of The Sims 3, I started a story blog. My first big story was The Charm Legacy. It was about a spoiled, disagreeable woman named Marylee Charm who had to start her life over from scratch. The story followed the dramatic lives of her and her descendants for the next five generations and the blog did quite well and had a large readership. I still look back and miss it sometimes.”
Krista
A lot of my favourite memories come from the original The Sims game. It was the first game I properly played on PC and when I started I had no idea what I was doing or what I was getting myself into. There was just something about The Sims that grabbed my attention. I would spend hours watching my Dad play and then sneak onto the game when he was at work.
I remember the first time my Sims had a baby and I ended up moving all the necessities into one room so I could keep them in one place until the baby aged up to a child. It worked, it was incredibly cramped but it was the longest two (might have been three) Sim days ever. The same child Sim ended up being sent to Military School a few Sim days later too. Oops! I remember when I ‘accidentally’ drowned my Sim by deleting the Pool Ladder and when I finally had saved up enough Simoleans to move into 2 Sim Lane! Of course, soon after this, I discovered cheat codes, expansion packs (my expansion first pack being The Sims on Holiday) and custom content. My game was never the same again after that point. Little did I know I would be here twenty years later still enjoying the franchise I’ve grown up with!
So come and join us and the community in celebrating The Sims twentieth birthday. Let us know some of your favourite memories and moments in the comments below!
So The Sims is a whole two decades old? And it’s been with me for almost all of that time, I figured to celebrate I’d share some memories with you, it’s been a wild ride.
First Let’s Go Back to 2001
What can I say about The Sims? I’ve been playing for around 18 of its 20 year lifespan, I still remember the day my older brother brought it home, I was six at the time and the second he booted that game up I was obsessed. I asked him a few months ago if he still remembered that night and our first experience with The Sims, he doesn’t but for me I think it’s something I’ll remember forever.
He made our family, my parents and the two of us, he made himself an adult Sim but once he saw the climbing frame and the fact only I (a child Sim) could play on it, we started a new game where he too was a child. We started off by building a house, of course we quickly added everything we could have ever dreamed of as six and thirteen-year-olds, it was a weird house of course nothing matched but to us it couldn’t have been cooler, he gave himself an en-suite bathroom with a window into his bedroom, which quickly became hilarious to us when our dad decided to use the bathroom and we could see him in there through the window, easily entertained, we still are as adults. Another vivid memory of my first evening with The Sims were the fact that our mum and dad wouldn’t sleep in the same bed, we couldn’t understand why, when we checked we discovered that our mum and dad weren’t even friends with each other, let alone married.
An Indoor Spring
The Sims has always been there for me through the trials and tribulations of my young life, when I was nine I was hit by a car on my way home from school, (the first time I ever walked home alone, I lived one street away, how embarrassing). I broke my thigh and was put into a traction, to cheer me up my brother bought me The Sims Bustin’ Out, overall I was bedridden for a little over two months with nothing else to do, pretty boring for a nine-year-old but I had The Sims, I always had The Sims. It was there for me when I wasn’t able to be outside playing with my friends, my bed was situated in the living room so I could still be around my family instead of isolated in my room, I could see all my friends playing in the sun, running, riding their bikes having fun, I was jealous and sad but I could always get lost building a house or causing carnage to those little pixel people. R.I.P to all The Sims that met their end due to my bed ridden boredom.
Ageing Up Into A Teen
By the time I was 12 I’d played The Sims in most of its different editions, Xbox, Game Boy, Nintendo DS but still never PC there was a point when I was 10 and I bought The Sims 2 Happy Holiday Stuff, only to get home and and discover I needed the base game, I was heartbroken.
So fast forwarding back to 12 we got a family laptop (revolutionary to me at the time) and one of my school friends was kind enough to lend me The Sims 2 base game, can you believe the thing I was most excited about was stairs? the console versions of the game lacked them so this was the first time I’d ever been able to have a multiple storey house, INCREDIBLE. You better believe I played that game from the minute I got home from school to the minute I went to bed, it was constant, and I loved it.
Around this time I also discovered Sims machinimas and I pretty much spent all the time I wasn’t playing The sims watching those, I wished I could be a machinima creator, I even tried but alas, I didn’t have patience for it. I still have my favourites, here’s three I like to go back and watch when I’m feeling nostalgic.
Then one day I was in the supermarket with my dad, in the game aisle, I saw a gaming magazine and what was on the cover? The Sims 3! How did I not know it was coming? That Christmas a couple of weeks after I’d turned 14 in December of 2009 I was lucky enough to have gotten my own laptop and a copy of The Sims 3, no more sharing the family laptop, it was all mine, and I loved it. As with the other instalments it kept me occupied and wholehearted interested during its entire life span.
T.S.(4) I Love You
The Sims 4 dropped when I was in my third year of college, and being from the UK it released on the 5th of September unlike the 2nd, let me tell you those were the longest three days of my entire life, but it came. During this time I was suffering pretty badly with my mental health, something I’d struggled with since childhood, at this point it had worsened and I withdrew from my final year of college, I couldn’t handle it anymore, I became a recluse and lost everything I’d worked for thus far, y’know what was there for me? The Sims, during the lowest times of my life The Sims was always something I could turn to and get lost in a world of my own creations, where mental health didn’t exist and my Sims never had to endure the sadness I felt, – thanks testingcheats.
Joining The Community
Still struggling with my mental health but forever inspired by The Sims I decided to join the community, I made a simblr in January of 2017 and I’ve never looked back, I began sharing my screenshots and stories with other Simmers, I was able to make friends with people just like me, I owe everything to The Sims I can honestly say that the friendships that I’ve been able to build up during my three years here are some of the strongest relationships in my entire life. I have friends from all over the world, because of a little simulation game I picked up one evening when I was six, it’s crazy to think about.
The End;
I’m going to wrap this up, because if I don’t stop now I never will, I could write about The Sims forever but I’m sure we all have builds to get back to and Sims to feed. Thank you to The Sims for being here throughout my life, I love you and you are in all the game that means the most to me, I’m so glad to have grown up beside you. Here’s to another 20 years!
And thank you to you for listening to my late night rambles about the game I love so much, I’m grateful for your time, please feel free to share your memories in the comments with me, I genuinely would love to hear them. I hope you’ve enjoyed a little glimpse of mine.
Maxis Studio, the creative masterminds behind the city planning and building brilliance of SimCity among other fan favorites, proudly ushers in two decades of playing life with The Sims. That’s right, players have been creating virtual people, designing their environments, and breathing life into their worlds for twenty years.
So much has happened in the game since its creation. Sims, who have their own language, can also have distinct personalities, memories, and life goals. And, in the latest addition to The Sims’ universe, they can now experience the joys of tiny living! The ecological—and infinitely more cozy—movement focuses on a simpler lifestyle like building homes with a smaller footprint to encourage more time for relationships. The Sims has enriched so many lives—in the game’s world and our own. We were honored to connect with the Maxis and the EA team to learn more about the latest designs in The Sims Artist Shop, find out what’s in store in The Sims’ future, and so much more.

What magical surprises will The Sims experience in their twentieth year of existence?
Oh we’re always looking to surprise and excite The Sims’ community and this year (and beyond) is going to be amazing. First and foremost, anyone playing the game will find a new birthday hot tub waiting for them to help celebrate this momentous anniversary! Let’s party!
We also are really looking forward to the upcoming Community Voted Stuff Pack. The arts and crafts knitting theme that our players have chosen is going to be super fun and provide some compelling new activities to keep your Sims busy!
Since we’ve already released a lot of the “expected” Sims content (i.e. Seasons, Cats & Dogs, etc.), we’re now approaching a point in time where fresh, new ideas can more easily come to the surface. We have some thoughts and interesting ideas for what cool new content to make and directions to go in, but more importantly, the players will let us know what they want! We’ll be listening and poised to make it happen! Their continued involvement in this Simming community is more impactful than ever, and we’re going to continue building upon this game together.
Frankly, our development team is incredibly excited and ready to explore this new chapter in The Sims!
A solid mantra, grab this design on your favorite t-shirt.
After twenty memorable years and so much advancement in The Sims’ world, what are some of the biggest fan favorite features?
So this is truly a subjective exercise. If you asked this same question to 10 Simmers, you’d probably get 15 different answers! It also doesn’t help that The Sims history and content is absolutely massive. It’s mental how big this series is! I could probably just go through the most popular add-ons throughout The Sims storied history and discuss popular features, but let’s have some fun and do it a little different. Let’s look at some of the iconic Sims trends that are much loved and overlap between all kinds of players. I’ll give it a shot anyways!
The Grim Reaper –
There have been many glorious…er, I meant to say sad and touching…ways to die in The Sims over the years, but the collector of souls has always remained consistent (although their visage and outfit has certainly evolved over time). When you hear that death music start to play, you know that it’s too late to save them, and it’s time for final goodbyes. The Reaper is moments away. When the end is near the Reaper is too! We stan (even though we fear).
WooHoo –
Love and death are universal constants, even in The Sims. ESPECIALLY in The Sims. Finding new ways and places to create life has always been an entertaining and favorite pastime in The Sims. Our community is always appreciative of and on the lookout for new wooHoo spots! Personally, I find the outdoor bush in The Sims 4 to be one of the funniest/nastiest places in the game to do this deed. It’s so over-the-top and ridiculous that it never fails to elicit a chuckle. I’ll probably always laugh at it. I know, I know — I’m an eternal child. Sorry not sorry.
Hot Tubs –
Speaking of wooHoo locations, the Hot Tub is an iconic Sims object that finds its way into a LOT of player builds. There’s a certain joie de vivre to the social aspect of multiple Sims in the tub at the same time combined with always entertaining animations and visual effects. Oh those animations! *blushy face* All these things combine to make this object so universally appealing.
Gnomes, Llamas, and Freezer Bunnies –
Why are these things so pervasive across The Sims franchise? That’s a really good question with no perfectly clear answer. One explanation: These things are a little weird, a little mysterious, and a little whimsical. Just like us! These various things are in-jokes that have taken on a life of their own and have grown beyond any individual contributor. They’re just part of Sims culture now.
The Goths –
There are several prominent Sims families and individuals that could have been named here, but most will agree that the Goths are incredibly iconic. They’ve been featured as a key founding family in all four versions of The Sims. Each member of this group has a compelling and recognizable personality and backstory. One could argue that they are essential Sims characters. Despite their popularity and recognizability, there are definitely mysterious elements to this seemingly normal family. Like, WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO BELLA GOTH?!
Okay, okay, I’m monologuing. I could go on forever here. You get the point!

According to the makers and creators, what are the biggest moments in The Sims’ history so far?
Oh jeez, this is another tough question. Hmmm, how do I approach this one? Okay, so if I take a really high-level overview, I’d say the release of each new iteration of the series is a momentous occasion. Each Sims game launch has been a unique and special time in history. The excitement is almost palpable within our team and Simming community alike, and it’s the beginning of a new generation just visible on the horizon — both in terms of the game itself and the new players joining us for their first (of many) Sims’ experiences. I’d, of course, include some of the other Sims titles we’ve had the honor and pleasure of releasing. Titles like the MySims games, The Sims Mobile, various console offerings, The Sims Medieval, and the list goes on.
If we go down a level and look a bit closer at the different expansions and add-ons of these various Sims games, we see each pack represents a unique point in time and all are special in their own way. There have been some amazing, surprising, and very much loved expansions throughout the history of The Sims. They’re our babies, and we love them!
Overall, and this is the most impactful thing to me personally, I am incredibly proud of the inclusive nature of this series and the safe haven it represents to people of every size, shape, color, gender, and background imaginable. So inclusions in the game like expanded gender options and more flexible clothing opportunities are incredibly important. The Sims (to me) represents a better world in which everyone is equal and Sims are only judged by the content of their character. Every person on this planet should feel represented in The Sims, and it’s something we will never stop chasing, improving, and building upon!
In The Sims 4 Tiny Living Stuff Pack, we can dream even bigger and build smaller with cozy, minimalist living. Finally, Sims can enjoy murphy beds and focus their energy on cultivating gardens. What other great tiny-living elements do Sims experience in the latest release?
There is a fantastic three-in-one TV/stereo/bookshelf combo object that can really help you save space, and comes in a couple of fantastic looking options. There are also a few objects that take up less space compared to most of the other similar objects that allow you to minimize more effectively. And, we even added a few Tiny Living surprises that went out to ALL of our Simmers. Namely, we converted all the tiny bookends in the game to be fully functional bookshelves as well as made end tables (finally) able to hold TVs on top!
But honestly, the real power in the Tiny Living Stuff Pack is the three tier challenge mode! While building, you can challenge yourself to create three progressively smaller (and more difficult) living spaces. Can you still fit the essentials into these tiny little play areas? What else can you fit to ensure your Sims not only survive, but actually thrive in their various endeavors?
It’s a special Stuff Pack that’s close to my heart and there’s nothing tiny about the fun and creativity it helps to unlock in Simmers everywhere!
The Sims 4 is here! Grab the latest logo on a regular t-shirt.
What does the process look like for coming up with a new Sims world? How do new features get dreamed up and, ultimately, created?
Production and Design will agree upon a pack’s theme, then they bring in Art Direction to consider style, tone, and a setting for that theme. When thinking about new worlds and features, we look to themes that players have been requesting in conjunction with styles we have never delivered in the past. We always want to support something unique and different with each new pack.
Once there is alignment between all disciplines, Art Direction will begin developing the general ideas with the Art Team. We always start broad and narrow down specifics as we go, so as the Art Team is working on developing the style, the Design Team is fine tuning the various plans for features and gameplay. There are many disciplines meetings along the way, as the ideas become more solidified, more of the team is brought in to lend their expertise to the process. This includes groups like Audio, Animation, Engineering (lots of sub-disciplines within this), Visual Effects, User Experience, Marketing, QA, etc.
Obviously, this is vast simplification of the process we go through (with many steps along the way not discussed here). But hopefully it’s a bite-sized chunk that will give you a slightly better understanding of how Sims development works.

The Sims have captivated audiences for two decades. What does the next decade hold in store for The Sims?
It’s too early to know for sure, except that it will be glorious! We want to stay super adaptable and responsive to ongoing feedback and emergent player trends. I can say, we will continue to remain culturally relevant and always ready to support the new experiences that Simmers demand, and the stories they want to tell.
What advice does The Sims team have for up-and-coming artists?
Do you have a dream? A goal? An end desire? GREAT! That’s step one. Step two is understanding there are lots of ways to get there. Many routes appear to be unexpected detours. Don’t have tunnel vision! Allow yourself to be open to various paths and opportunities. Many incredibly talented artists work on our team that have come from drastically different origins and paths into video game development. The journey may be unexpected, but that’s also half the fun!
Also, don’t worry about learning software right away; that won’t make you a better artist. Software and hardware change. Always be looking to improve your skill sets by drawing from life and observing the world around you. Keeping sketchbooks and experimenting with different mediums is always a plus. We use 2D and 3D software to develop The Sims, but it is never our starting point. We all developed as artists, designers, and drafts people first, then learned the tools necessary to work in various specific roles of game development.
Hey, thank you for this interview and the opportunity to wish The Sims a very happy birthday!
We have a lot to cover today, Simmers, so grab a Salty Llama, hop into your new 20th Birthday Hot Tub*, and raise your glass for a toast!
Twenty years ago, we never could have imagined that The Sims™ would be where it is today. But you made it happen. We’re still here—and thriving—because of you, the community. Your passion for this game drives us to keep creating every day, just as it has for the last two decades. We’re grateful for everything you do, from helping us create a new Stuff Pack to repping your love for The Sims with merch. Be sure to check out our new limited-edition birthday collection from Threadless.
Think about that: for twenty years, Simmers like you have been designing the perfect home, creating unique Sims, and playing with life. Every day, we’re surprised and delighted by the things you share, from your beautiful builds to gladiatorial contests that test what your Sims can (or cannot) survive. Your creativity inspires us and humbles us, and celebrating the birthday of The Sims is really celebrating all of you.
So how are we doing this? Strap in for a heck of a party! To get this thing started, we have a small update going live today with a special free in-game item for everyone. Hint: Sims can use this item while they chat it up, skinny dip, or WooHoo. All you have to do is log on to take advantage of the in-game giveaway of the Birthday Hot Tub on any platform. Find it in the Build catalog under the outdoor activities sort. Then hit the bubbles, relax, and indulge in your favorite memories of The Sims as we take a trip back down memory lane. We’ve gone through quite the glow-up, if we do say so ourselves.
From the beginning, The Sims has been about playing with life, creating and designing a world in which anything can happen. Even back then, The Sims put a lot of emphasis on inclusion and the freedom to play as you like with the capability to romance any Sim, pick any career path, or spend all of your time in Build/Buy mode. It’s changed a lot in the past twenty years, though, as our understanding of those ideas has evolved. More than just reflecting life as it is, The Sims opens up new possibilities and does away with limits. It gives you a space to push boundaries, explore new ideas, and challenge the status quo. There is no wrong way to play The Sims!
As the rest of the month goes on, we’ll continue celebrating this history on our social channels. Follow along on Twitter and Instagram as your fellow Simmers relive all of their favorite moments—inadvertent deaths, hundred-baby challenges, Sims swimming through the ground…. Use the hashtag #PlayWithLifeChallenge to chime in with your own experiences and share your joy (and your memes)! There is so much to appreciate, and we’ve gathered up some fun data reflecting everything you’ve done with The Sims here. Did you know there have been over 1.3 billion WooHoos in the game?
Those are some impressive numbers… and some really busy Sims!
We have so much more in store for you in this new decade, and we can’t wait to share the journey with you. Thank you for all of your creativity, your passion, and your hilarity. You are the best players in the world.

Fixed an issue where Freelancer Career tasks would not complete after Sims would Travel.
Fixed an issue in which the game would jump to Ultra Speed randomly when some Service NPC, specifically Maids, were on the Lot. Talk about speed cleaning!

Specifically Baby Bassinets…
Adding a Sim to an existing household via the Create a Sim Stories feature will no longer subtract Simoleons from the household.

There were a number of confusing situations that arose as a result of Invites your Sims would receive. In some cases these would appear as two invites for the same event, one that was the “hey, I just wanted you to know” invite, and the other would be the real invite.
Some Sims just want you to know that their invite was coming by sending a pre-invite I guess.

The Sims Team has released a brand new Update for The Sims 4 on PC and Mac!
To download the latest version of The Sims 4, simply open your Origin program and if the game doesn’t update automatically, right click on The Sims 4 and select ”Update”.
In case you have Mods or Custom Content, the game will automatically disable them for you after first launching The Sims 4 after the update. To re-enable all your Mods and Custom Content, select the Settings option in the Menu and select Settings. Under the”Other” section you’ll find the ”Enable Custom Content and Mods” option. Check it and restart your game in order for it to take effect!
Twenty years ago, The Sims was released on the 4th of February 2000. As a simulation game, it confused “traditional” gamers because it had no defined end goals and there was no way to “win.” Non-players even described it as “that game where you have to tell your character to use the bathroom.” Even now, two decades later, some people have yet to abandon this mindset, but many of you have been with us from the beginning or joined in the years between, and you understand why The Sims is so much more than just playing house.
Thank you for being here with us through this journey. We have been working on bringing new experiences to our players, such as cross-platform Gallery for our console, PC, and Mac players. And as we continue through our twentieth year, we hope to deliver new excitement to the world of The Sims.
To start the celebrations, we added the Birthday Hot Tub, which you can find in Build Buy as soon as you update your game. Yes, it is for everyone!
We also added new music—we hope you enjoy it!

Welcome to my 20th Anniversary Special! This is also my first article in 2020, I wanted this one to count!
I was being somewhat dissatisfied with the sims 4 the other day, reading several forum threads, watching Simmers’/Youtubers’ nostalgia videos, and then I decided to draft this article! Could there be a better time to talk about lore? Anniversaries are all about nostalgia and memories, right? Well, not in the alternate timeline of the Sims 4, we don’t have memories or meaningful story progression tools in game but…
Let’s get back to our topic. Anniversary, hurray! Wear your party hat, order yourself a glass of juice, blow some confetti and whistle your party horn! We’re going to discuss some lore facts and speculate together!
The Sims Medieval had taken us back in the medieval ages of the SimNation and gave us a lot of insight about the lore. We, players, were simply gods that helped Sims to thrive and advance. And back then sims had more self-consciousness and they also had some awareness about their Watcher. Jacobans and Peterans believed that The Watcher created them, watched them all, and then guided them through their lives and adventures to prevent them from destroying themselves through their own carelessness and greed. Despite the similarly central beliefs, the two branches of Churches had split apart due to different opinions about the Watcher; while the Jacoban Church held that the Watcher was a vengeful and merciless God, the Peteran Church claimed that the Watcher was a loving and forgiving God to everyone.
The question is, at what point in history did they abandon their beliefs and lost their awareness about the Watcher? The Sims 3, presumably presenting the time between the sims medieval and the sims 1, leaves us in the dark.
4) Is The Sims 4 a Dystopian Past?
The last expansion of the Sims 3, Into the Future, brought us a totally new experience in the sims series! Time Travel! Our beloved time-traveler Emit Relevart was from the future afar, meaning that he came from a time even after the Sims 2 takes place! In the game, our experience was built around the present and the far-future. We visited the future to see how our present actions affected it. But doing so, we skipped the events of the Sims 2 and we don’t really know how it affected the cosmos of the universe.
We are told that the Sims 4 is an alternate reality, but what if something went wrong with time-travel and we got stuck in a dystopian past version of the SimNation? (I would call it dystopian since our sims are under the curse of emotions, cannot differ from each other with their personalities and do suffer from amnesia hence they cannot even properly hate. It would also clarify why most of the premade families and sims have no memories, no relationships, no skills and such.) It also begs another question, can time travel connect both realities or fix the problems we face today? Do you think we will ever have time-travel in the sims series again?
3) Are we done with the townie-drama for good?
The Sims series shines with its diverse and unique characters! But the ones we mostly talk about are the ones that we have some unfinished business with. Even if we’re done with them, the new generations the series produced lack the material that keeps us talking. Drama! A lot of people like myself would love to know what happened to some certain sims, what are we supposed to assume for their future.
Could Romeo Monty and Juliette Capp (The Sims 2, Veronaville) overcome the rivalry between their families and have a happy ending?
We know that Bella arrives at Littlehaven (The Sims Social) and dies at Lunar Lakes (The Sims 3) at some point. But does she ever return to Pleasantview before that? Bella we saw in Strangetown, was she a clone? Did Mortimer die alone? Alexander’s fate was also revealed that he marries Cecilia Goth (The Sims 3, Nintendo DS, Beacon Bay) at some point, but what happens to poor Cassandra?
What did Don Lothario do to piss off Caliente sisters after they moved together to Strangetown (The Sims 2 Console) hence he ended up being sent back in time to Riverview (The Sims 3)? Are Caliente sisters time-travelers too? If so, what influence do they have in the lore? Could they be the reason why we’re in the sims 4’s timeline?
Do Landgraabs remain their wealth and power, like, forever, in every possible timeline/reality?
These are just some of the popular questions that came to my mind. Rest assured that there is a ton of questions to ask when you consider how long it has been after we last saw many characters in the progressing timeline.
2) How super is natural selection?
In the past sims games, we had plenty of supernatural sims varying from fairies to zombies, some had very little abilities and some had many abilities to play with. In the alternate reality of the sims 4 however, supernaturals are far less in number, but the ones we have are also far more advanced than their predecessors. If the sims 4 timeline is completely its own thing, maybe it has to deal with natural selection. You know, survival of the fittest. One would wonder how merfolks survived with such lame abilities though, then the question would be “how super is natural selection?”. But if the sims 4 is a conclusion of a time-travel accident as we mentioned above, don’t you think that it is a little bit strange? What mystery would be lying behind their absence and where would you look at for more answers? If EA/Maxis decided to put more lore into the sims 4 regarding missing occults, which places would you look at in the game? Do you think Strangerville should have more than what we’ve seen? Or maybe Vampires of Forgotten Hollow somehow managed to leash and lock all other undead which aren’t spectral entities like ghosts, so they would not rise from their graves? We have seen familiars of Spellcasters that are labeled as fairies and we found sprites in Britechester that resemble a similar nature. Do you think Spellcasters may be more wicked than we think of them? Do you think they may have done something terrible to the fairies of SimNation? Do you think this also may be related to what may have happened to some NPCs like Therapist, Social Bunny and Burglar? Maybe I should take off my party hat which is covered in tin-foil.
1) How professional are the criminals in the Sims 4?
Lore-wise, there are criminals in the sims 4, there is also governmental law-enforcement powers, like detectives and lawyers. But it all happens off-screen. We can never see a theft, a murder or any other horrible crimes in the game, our sims can never become the victim. But on the other hand, we definitely can commit many crimes, silently, slyly… Eg. taking loans and not paying back, being mean to everyone to extreme levels without facing any consequences, moving in with townies without any trust-requirement and robbing them. We can even murder them if we make them laugh hard enough! Don’t you think there is a hidden message here? The Sims 4 definitely has the best (or the worst, depending on your point of view) criminals of the series. They are unseen, they are silent and they succeed without getting caught. Maybe there is a political message behind this, maybe they managed to take over the government of SimNation and they do not even need to rob our houses anymore, maybe we are just giving them our fortune willingly with our bills and more. What we should get from this is that evil is silent and unseen, perhaps? It lies within us, buried deep in our hearts, making us secretly enjoy the sight of Eliza Pancakes drowning. Perhaps!
Let us know your opinions and speculations down in the comments! Do not forget to include your pick of hints from the existing lore!
