At gamescom, we revealed The Sims 4 Get Together Expansion Pack*, coming this November. It adds the new European-inspired World of Windenburg, fun group activities, new Skills, and a brand new feature called Clubs that allows Sims to totally break the rules of the game.
Sims have autonomy in The Sims 4, which is a fancy way of saying they do their own thing when you let them. First, they’ll try to do whatever they physically need (like eating or sleeping), then, they’ll do what their Traits tell them to do (like being Flirty or Mischievous). Clubs allow you to create new rules for Sims that supersede the logic they typically follow.
Getting Together
When you create a Club in The Sims 4 Get Together, you can pick their preferred hangout location, choose what they wear when they get together, and decide who is allowed into your Club. However, Clubs are much more than just groups of Sims – they’re groups that will follow a set of guidelines set by you, which works extremely well with a simulation-driven game.
Should the Fitness Crew meet at the Gym, or work out in the middle of the town square? Should Sims in the Child life stage be allowed in? Should only children be allowed in? What about their outfits? Typical workout attire, or formal wear? You can encourage them to be mean to the Romance Club, or get romantic with the Misfit Club.
But here’s where it gets really cool: once your Sims are together with their Club (or what we refer to internally as a Club Gathering), they can act against the things they’d typically do if the rules of the Club dictate it. Characteristically peaceful Sims might start a brawl if they’re in a Fight Club, and shy Sims could end up being amorous if their Flirty Club encourages it.
These rules will only supercede behavior when your Sim is in a Club Gathering. When we first started out, we wanted the Club rules to apply all the time. We quickly realized that if this was the case, Sims’ lives would be overrun by Clubs and the Sims normal behaviors would never shine through. They’d also run into problems with rules from different Clubs if they clashed, keeping them in a constant state of conflict. What if my Sim is in one club that loves to watch TV and another club that hates it?
Besides spending time on making sure the rules worked, we also burned out a lot of markers doodling on the whiteboard to make sure you were able to quickly figure out who around you was in a Club. The result is fairly simple, and lets you hover over Sims to learn their name and which Clubs they’re members of, and quickly scan an area to see which Clubs are having a gathering, and who is the leader of the different Clubs.
Taking Control
On that same note, we wanted to make sure those different Clubs were just that: different. We aspired to let players do anything and everything with Clubs, which actually led to a potential problem… how the heck do we even display all those choices? We have hundreds of interactions in the game, and sorting through all of them would be overwhelming. When we hit moments such as this, we fall back on our instincts as Sim players, gamers, and storytellers. We began creating hypothetical groups, normal and strange, and realized that we could group many of the choices into these different buckets and let the Sims dynamically choose specific items within that category.
For example, instead of saying “This Club likes to Kiss, Flirt, and use Pick Up Lines,” players will instead say that the “Club likes to Flirt,” which encompasses all those things. You can still get more specific, choosing targets for your rules if you’d like. Want to make a Club that likes to Fight and be Mean, but only to members of a specific other Club? You can do that!
Your Clubs can have 10 rules total (5 encouraged rules and 5 discouraged). We’re still tinkering with that number, but we think we found the sweet spot. If your Sim had 20 things they were trying to do, you wouldn’t be able to tell that they had a unique behavior. At that point, they just look like… normal Sims. This number lets you create unique Clubs that’ll lead to Sims doing things that will stand out and read as different and interesting.
Your Clubs, Your Rules
We want players to create Clubs for anything and everything they love doing in the game. From making a creative club that enjoys painting or music, to a Service Club that hilariously comes over to your home to fix and clean things. Players will be able to create any Club that fits their play style, and play any way they like – we think that the way these Clubs change the day-to-day gameplay of The Sims 4 creates incredible possibilities.
Thanks for letting us share a little more information on Clubs, and we look forward to telling you even more about them when we get closer to the release of The Sims 4 Get Together Expansion Pack in November!

Great news for all Simmers who like to post their gameplay videos of The Sims on YouTube!
Google is preparing to launch one of their biggest projects tomorrow, called YouTube Gaming.
According to Gamespot, YouTube Gaming will focus on gamers who like to create content that’s, of course, related to video game videos, let’s plays and such. It’s important to note that The Sims 4, among other 25,000+ video games will have it’s own YouTube Gaming page.
Google is preparing to launch YouTube Gaming, a service focusing exclusively on gaming content. YouTube Gaming contains over 25,000 dedicated game pages, supports videos as well as live streams, and will be available tomorrow, August 26, on the web and as an app.
Users can add specific games to a collection to stay up-to-date with the latest content or subscribe to a particular channel or user to receive notifications when a live-stream starts. A beta of the live streaming tools can be accessed on site.
YouTube Gaming automatically pulls gaming-related content so that user searches can be more relevant. For example, typing ‘call’ into the search bar will show ‘Call of Duty’ as opposed to ‘Call Me Maybe.’
Please note that this is a speculation post and infos mentioned down below are NOT confirmed by Electronic Arts!
Also note that the Spooky Stuff the localization tester was mentioning might not be a Stuff Pack at all, but something else!
UPDATE #2: Zerbu was able to find some interesting lines of codes under the ”tag” tuning XML inside the game files. The following code lines were added on November 2014, when The Sims 4 introduced Pools within their new update.
It’s not known yet, but there may have been plans to add Costume Parties and Costumes mentioned down below for Halloween of 2014. Either they didn’t have time to finish this pack or they wanted to introduce it in 2015.
[spoiler title=’SPOILER’ style=’default’ collapse_link=’true’]
UPDATE: Marcos removed The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff from his EA projects list!
Marcos de Lima, one of the localisation testers in Madrid for the latest projects and games from EA has listed that he’s been working on many EA projects, including The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff.
It’s unknown when will this pack be announced / released, but I guess it should be expected sometime around Halloween.
This isn’t the first time spooky content for The Sims 4 were mentioned though! Back in July 2014, a screen was leaked during The Sims 4’s Producer Walkthrough video, where among other content ideas, ”a spooky costume party” was also mentioned.

The Sims has posted a tutorial on how to build the perfect bathroom. Read a snippet below and then follow the link to read the Full Article.
Don’t Forget the Towels!
If you’ve opened up The Gallery, you’ve likely seen some amazing creations, from absurd mansions to mind-bending homes. And we often see the same question: how do they do that?! Which is why we started Builder Tips, which gives members of the community a chance to teach you how they build the amazing things you can find on The Gallery.
Today, we wanted to start with one of the most important rooms in the house: the bathroom! We invited popular builder Zita1966 to write up some tips on creating an amazing bathroom in The Sims 4. Below is her guide!
Thank you for the invite, I am truly honored. Even though I do consider myself as a very versatile builder, I do like to build my bathrooms to be easy accessible and playable. Most of all, they need to look realistic, like in a real life house.
I created the above bathroom in these easy five steps:
One of the most popular SimGurus, due to his cherished appearances in live streams, SimGuru Graham, aka Graham Nardone, was kind enough to take time from his busy schedule and answer a few questions Sims Community had regarding Stuff Packs and their development. Find out some interesting things you might not know about the latest one, Cool Kitchen; how the team comes up with the animations; and the way the interaction with fans is integrated into the process.

Sims Community: Sims can now make ice cream. There are 30 flavours and a variety of toppings and garnishes. It seems some combinations can yield unexpected results. Could you give us one example?
Graham Nardone: The hidden combinations are the result of pairing a particular trait with certain toppings and garnishes. For example, Foodie Sims enjoy something a little more exotic like edible flowers and raspberry sauce on their ice cream. One unique combination is for Sims with the insane trait though. If you happen to combine the nuts topping with nuts as a garnish… well, it has a tendency to get them pretty excited!
Sims Community: Sims can have brain freezes and even drop their ice cream cones. The animations are hilarious. Are they based on films and cartoons or do you act them out and observe each other?
Graham Nardone: We have hours of internal footage of team members acting out the various interactions that Sims ultimately perform in-game. Picture if you will some of the exaggerated expressions and awkward situations that Sims can find themselves in… You can imagine the importance of assuring the generous volunteers who help provide reference that the resulting video will never leave the hands of our animation team. Any violations of this strict code of ethics – such as taking still frame captures and sharing them to the office spam email list – are very much encouraged discouraged.
Sims Community: Delving a bit further into the development process, something new to The Sims 4 Stuff Packs is that they contain objects featuring additional game play, like the buffet tables, the drinking fountain, hot tubs and the ice cream maker. Does the team settle on the premium items and then build the theme around them? Or is it the other way around, choosing the theme first and then coming up with new game play objects that fit?
Graham Nardone: Interesting question, because the answer is actually yes to both! As you noted, we’ve taken a new approach to Stuff Packs in The Sims 4, which meant re-examining how we develop them compared to past entries in the franchise. Over the course of this first year, we’ve built upon our plans to support The Sims 4 after the base game was released. Initially that meant selecting the style further in advance and getting started on building all the “stuff” that goes into each pack. That’s easier to plan in advance as it only impacts our artists, and we have a clear frame of reference for how long each object or piece of clothing will take. Now that we’re about a year into The Sims 4 that process has been streamlined, as we’ve learned what works, as well as what we can do even better. We’re at the point where fans have given feedback on multiple packs, and have clear suggestions about what they want more of from a Stuff Pack. Now that we’ve refined our development process and have an established Stuff Pack team, we’ve started to define what new game play we want to introduce upfront. Only then will we select great “stuff” that complements the experience we want to create. I’m really looking forward to seeing how that change impacts Stuff Packs in year two!
Sims Community: You are very active on social media, answering questions and taking suggestions. How important is this exchange to what you do? Does it influence the development process of Packs?
Graham Nardone: Interacting with Sims fans is my favorite part about working here at The Sims Studio. I have lots of interesting discussions about the philosophy of design behind our features, or detailing the nitty-gritty about how a feature was implemented and how it’s driving a Sim’s behavior. I’m someone who loves games and is passionate about his job, so I really appreciate hearing from those with shared interests who care about what we do with The Sims. It helps reinforce that the development decisions we’re making each day have a discernible impact on players. I think when you have a franchise with such a strong community, that their voice is very important in helping inform what we’re building. I enjoy taking that feedback back to the team and challenging design perceptions so that we learn and improve. Many of the things being discussed in the community get brought up when designing new features, and their messages frequently help shape our ongoing game updates.

The Sims 4 Cool Kitchen Stuff* released this week, and brought with it a variety of items made to upgrade and outfit your Sim’s kitchen. It also includes new gameplay by way of the Ice Cream Machine – a perfect treat for any foodie Sims looking to create decadent desserts.
There are 30 different flavors to create, many of which you’re likely familiar with. Vanilla? Yeah, it’s in there. Chocolate? You’d better believe it. Orange Sorbet, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Rainbow Sherbet? Obviously. But besides the flavors you’d expect to find at your nearest freezer, there are some that are a little more… outstanding.
Dragon’s Breath proves that ice cream doesn’t have to be cold! Well, that’s not entirely true – it’s still cold, it’s also just a little… hot. Like, make your Sim’s mouth burn hot. Like, they might mistakenly catch on fire if they eat it hot.
Haunted Mint is the spookiest of the ice cream flavors in the stuff pack. Yes, you read that right: spooky. As the name suggests, Haunted Mint is indeed a ghostly treat. Sims that eat it not only get a buff, but they might be visited by an apparition after they finish their snack. Boooooo!
Twin Roses is so full of flavor, your Sims might just get Flirty after they eat it. Well, that’s how older Sims react, at least. Children that try Twin Roses end up Happy, instead, proving that the ice cream is the perfect treat for everyone.
Plant Matter is one of those fancy schmancy ice creams made from “natural” ingredients. Sims that eat it will have a desire to relax in the water – plants need water, after all. Also, ever hear the term “you are what you eat?” That applies here, too, so… uh… watch out for leaves.
Chilling Mocha might not actually give your Sim a brain freeze, but it’ll do the next best thing: let your Sim give others a freeze. After chowing down on the Chilling Mocha, your Sim might get a special one-time-use Interaction called Chilling Touch which does just what it sounds like. (Warning: There’s also a chance your Sim will turn blue after eating it. Just FYI!)
There are other weird flavors to make and try in The Sims 4 Cool Kitchen Stuff Pack – have you tried any yet? If not, your Sims are missing out on some truly sweet treats!
Still deciding on whether you should get the latest Sims 4 Stuff Pack? Well, you’re in luck!
Down below you’ll find The Sims 4 Cool Kitchen Reviews and Overviews by some of your favorite Simmers!
Welcome back to another Design Guide! With Cool Kitchen Stuff released today, I thought doing a kitchen room guide would be helpful for you guys. This is a modern room build I did a while back, and one of my favourites. Kitchens are the heart of any home, and so deserve significant time and effort in making them suitable for your home.
For a modern kitchen you want to make sure your walls and flooring are suitable for a kitchen. Tile or laminate are best for kitchen floors in case any food or liquid is dropped. Also, kitchens get a lot of foot traffic and so tile or laminate flooring can withstand longer wear and tear. Choose either light or dark flooring to complement your colour scheme.
Walls should be tile or brick, especially behind the stove and sink for backsplash of food or liquid. I like to combine tile or brick with painted walls to make the room feel wider and have some texture contrast.
I love red in my kitchens and dining rooms. Apparently the colour red also promotes hunger, or a feeling of wanting to eat. Your kitchen can be any colour you want! Make it all orange, all bright green. For modern kitchens, colours are your friends. For classic kitchens or country style kitchens, light or pale colours are more suitable.
Don’t forget cupboards and counters. The Sims 4 is great for the flexibility in cupboard and counter styles and shapes. Experiment with the different sizes and facings to figure out what suits your kitchen best.
Finally make sure the lighting in your kitchen is bright. Lights and lots of windows will keep the kitchen a bright and inviting area for your Sims, and for you!
Hope you enjoyed this kitchen room guide! Be sure to share your creations with us at Sims Community! Happy Simming! <3
