Kate Flack, who’s currently working as a Systems Designer on The Sims 4, has mentioned on her profile how she did research and ideation of new features for The Sims 4 to support a rolling 3 year content/live service plan.
As this is a rolling plan, it’s very likely that the team has extended / will extend the original plan.
This means that for at least next 2 years, The Sims 4 Team will be releasing The Sims 4 Expansion Packs, Game Packs, Stuff Packs and Updates.
Please note that this plan has probably been extended!
Brainstorming, research and ideation of new features to support a rolling 3 year content/live service plan.
Only if you ignore the word “rolling”. A “rolling” plan’s 3-year end point moved forward every day. The plan doesn’t cover fewer days with each day that passes: it rolls ahead with the calendar. Nothing about end of support is suggested by a “rolling” plan at all.
Exactly! A rolling 3 year plan means they’re always looking 3 years forward at the product roadmap. AKA standard product planning timelines… Not sure what the “news” is in this post…
We have updated the post 🙂
Only way they would actually sell games if they gave people enough notice to buy. Im in my late 20s. Buy sims as soon as something new is released because i HAVE the money. I feel sorry for Youngsters that play Sims 4. They give literally days notice for new stuff. Parents are not exactly going to give the kids that much money in one go??? We had plenty of notice since Sims 1. Sim 2 games was advertised in advance, same as sims 3, Heck sims 3 games ads was everywhere. Tv Ads online ads, Sims 4 marketing is Hush hush. I remember from when i was a kid seeing a new sims game advertised to come out soon, I nagged all my family for chores to save up all the money in time for the next new Sims game. Now “Lets give people 2 days notice for sims 4 new content”EA Marketing teams says and chuckles. Marketing is very very poor. Very bad way to go. And for this next game pack we are supposed to be getting. I guess we will have 2 days notice or something before it comes out the way they are going this month. I dont see The Sims 4 advertisement outside the internet. My mates didn’t even know sims 4 was out til i bought mine. They never see anything about it. Apart from one tv ad once every blue moon. So they dont bother with Sim 4. I Love the Sims franchise and i hope its around for many many years to come but the way they’re marketing sims 4 it wont last that long. Lets hope Sims 5 will be very different. Some people say …..”Live and Learn” Lets hope they can turn things around. BTW im not bitchin sims 4 I’m addicted to the game. Sims is my life! I couldn’t live without it. I just hate the marketing they are doing Thats all. Love the gurus, love the sims players and even more LOVE THE SIMS 4.
Sorry for the long rant in previous message i posted people. I didn’t realize til i posted I’m sorry.
I am shocked to learn this news I would think that as many creators and professional people that are involved with tthis there would not be a limit on any projects. Everyone loves the Sims no matter which one you have. If everyone is not as fortunate to gave all the packs there is does not say that there should be limitations put in anything. I love the Sims was everyone else does. I am thankful for all people involved with the cold projects and how I hope it never ends
Yay 2+ more years of cash grabs. Atrocious.
It’s not atrocious moron.
They’re not forcing you to buy them and there’s no “cash grab” because by definition a cash grab is when unnecessary and poor quality products are released and The Sims’ expansions are meant to broaden gameplay so players are able to create, mix and match the stories they want to tell.
EA’s doing what any company does, release products that consumers will eventually buy.
Also why the hell do you care, if you don’t want new expansions then don’t buy them. Stop bitching and move on with your life.
“…there’s no “cash grab” because by definition a cash grab is when unnecessary and poor quality products are released…”
have you seen the DLC for sims 4 recently? We’ve had 2 actual DLC (which were ok), a few “gameplay” packs (which are quite underwhelming) and a few stuff packs (which are cash grabs, by every meaning of the phrase)
“…The Sims’ expansions are meant to broaden gameplay…”
Yes, but their also meant to work perfectly with each other with no bugs, glitches or problems. Doesn’t mean that they’re going to.
“EA’s doing what any company does…”
Working on a lot of content for 1 big DLC and satisfying fans, rather than making a few items based around a theme and releasing it with a $20 price tag, making people question the point of buying the DLC for the game? Oh yeah, EA has that covered…
“Also why the hell do you care?”
Because he, like me, enjoys playing the sims 4 and would like to give money to EA in exchange for a lot of content within 1 DLC every so often to enrich the game. Because EA keeps releasing full priced DLC every bloody month that is both lacking in content and adds nothing really interesting gameplay-wise, he has realized that EA is just realeasing the content in order to make money, rather than satisfy fans.
I love how EA hasn’t realized yet that by making the game more accessible to modders, they’ve destroyed a huge chunk of their profit margin. Don’t get me wrong, people are downloading them, it’s just that their downloading them either for free through pirate sites, for free under the guises of mod packs, or for $5 from a former employee’s site who worked on sims 2. And the few who do pay full price for them because they want to be “official” and everything are either fan boys/girls or young kids.
