Some of the simmers (including myself) have experienced weird freezing / lagging issues in The Sims 4 since the latest Update. The issue mainly consists of game responding very slowly. For example, it takes me about 10 seconds for the game to react after clicking The Gallery button.
Before I continue with bringing out possible solutions for these issues, please check if any of your mods (considering you have any) are broken!
32bit or 64bit?
It’s possible that, if you’re using the 64bit version of The Sims 4, Origin has reverted it back to 32bit version for The Sims 4. Right click on The Sims 4 game in Origin > Game Properties > Advanced Launch Option and select the 64bit version.
Clear your cache!
It’s important to clear your save game cache every now and then. Go to Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and delete content from folders that we indicated, including the localthumbcache.package file.
Tray Folder
The Tray Folder contains all the downloads and creations you’ve made from The Gallery. By removing the Tray Folder you’ll automatically remove everything you’ve downloaded and created, so if you want to keep your favorite creations and preserve the one’s you’ve made – favorite all the creations you like so you can download them later and upload the creations you like to The Gallery. Removing the Tray Folder fixed all freezing issues for me!
Go Offline
Sometimes being online in The Sims 4 can slow down your gameplay experience. To go offline, go to Origin > Go Offline.
Thanks gonna give it a try
I’ve been doing the offline thing for a while and it does make a big difference for me – less lagging. And my game did revert back to 32 so thank you for that tip. If it’s lagging after this then I will try the additional tips as well.
all yesterday I was updating mods hahaha 90% of mods I had to delete good thing modders made updates of most important mods I was using, great people, but no freezing game now, after clearing old mods my game runs even better 😉
How do you get to where you clear the cache. My game is freezing and I know nothing about computers please help? I have no mods or cc.
Has anyone experienced issues with Create a Sim after the update? Aspirations and traits are acting weird…
For me was the MC command mod that was not updated but now is and a recipe from oh my sims from custom food mod that was borking it. I took it out and it is ok now. I think was the Shrimp Soup or something or the Stu Dish.
The best solution I came up with is just go offline mode. Then, just go online when you need to upload or download something. Be careful downloading though, terrain textures are having bugs atm. Also, if you have a lot of items in Tray folder (i do have an epic number of Tray items), some of them won’t show up unless you search or specify it by ticking between household and lots.
For Mac users, where and how do you find these? I don’t have a cache or an ea folder. I also don’t have an option to change my bit
I’m having the same problem. Do you have a Mac as well?
Yes, I have a Mac as well. Kind of strange that there isn’t an option available for Mac users. Have you managed to solve this some other way?
I’ve changed the bit, repaird game and emptied cashe and it’s still not working. Really don’t know what to do!
How do I know if my game was originally 64 or 32 bit?
The only way for me is to remove the tray folder aout of th game and move it to documents or desktop, anything I put in the tray even 2 files make the game slower 🙁
How do I know if the game originally was 32 or 64 bit? It is set at 32 bit now, but. My computer is 64 bit.
Then no matter what was original, you must use 64 bits (considering than Windows also is 64 bits and your RAM is 4 GB or more)
I need to check the ram. It is running pretty good on 32, but I will change it to 64. Thank you so much for answering!
For those of you that aren’t opposed to using mods, this mod works wonders. http://modthesims.info/d/585420
I have tried all of this. I have tried with the mods folder completely out, tray, saves completely out. I have tried in offline mode, still lags like 1 frame every 5 seconds. I have tried everything that has been mentioned on the web that I can find, including reinstalling the game, but Sims 4 still lags to 15 frames a minute. I can’t figure out why it is lagging, anymore ideas? Do I have to wait for a patch? Am I the only one this is happening to?
Unfortunately the current version of Origin does not seem to have this choice to ‘go offline.’ It also does not show the 32/64 bit choice under advanced launch game properties for Sims 4 either.
When I click on my sims 4 in my origin it only loads until the picture where it says sims 4 with the diamond on the left and then I think it freezes and won’t load the game does anyone know what to do?
The only way to get off the screen is to turn my laptop off completely and then turn it back on by the way
My game is having the exact same issue and I have tried every suggestion on this page and on other pages and nothing will work. I’ve been trying for 3 days now to get it to work.
I don’t even have the option for 32bit or 64bit in my game properties?
I don’t either
I don’t have a lotcachedata folder.
How do you fix the freezing and lagging on ps4
I have this error as well, I was fixed by myself so only thing I need to do is select right video resolution without that all game freeze looks like they won`t recognize my video card so I do it manually and anything works well. Never crushed after it so I prefer to very correctly choice resolution to original Windows.
