Lyndsay Pearson, General Manager for The Sims has written up an insightful blog post on TheSims.com talking about what are some of the things we should expect for The Sims 4 this year. In the blog post she revealed that we’ll be getting a new Expansion Pack, Game Pack and a Stuff Pack in the next six months for The Sims 4 as well as regular free updates for the game.
See what she has to say:
Hello, Simmers!
As you may have noticed, we like to try new things around here once in a while. It’s important to us to continue to surprise and delight you with updates we know you’ll love, themes you maybe haven’t seen yet, or ideas you never even expected. We also always strive to be as open with you as possible, sharing what we can, when we can.
There’s a lot happening over the next year in The Sims™, including our 5th Anniversary for The Sims 4 and our 20th Anniversary for The Sims! So, in celebration of this milestone year, we want to try something new and let you know, far ahead, what types of experiences you can expect to see from The Sims 4.
I know you want to know, but I cannot share details about themes, features, content, or specific dates. I also don’t want to spoil everything, because it’s fun to be a little surprised. With that in mind, here’s the plan for new paid packs we are working on for The Sims 4 PC. Over the next six months, we’ll be bringing you a new expansion pack, game pack, and stuff pack! We will also continue to release updates to the base game.
This list, as with anything in game development, is subject to change. We’ll continue to do our best to share changes as we make them. As we move forward, you’ll begin to see these new paid packs release on console closer to the dates they release for PC/Mac, though not at the same time.
Thank you for continuing to play The Sims and sharing your passion with us. We can’t overstate how much we appreciate each and every one of you.
Lyndsay Pearson

“Insightful”.
I wish we had a like button so I could like this comment. lol
I know right! Sounds so exciting
Very vague but it leaves wiggle room if plans change. I didn’t really expect them to be more concrete about what was coming up (main theme etc) since they’ve been consistent in stating they can’t release that based on how things primarily work with ea or how it would turn into a drama in the community if an early announced item is pushed back. We typically get some sort of unofficial tip by hidden objects/object descriptions (chef station for toddlers, kiddie book about weather, etc) or sometimes codings/walkstyles are unlocked through sims4studio (creepy vampire walkstyle). Quite a few people hope or assume university is the next ep so it makes me wonder even though a few months before a guru said university wasn’t being worked on. Hopefully cars come first.
@Rene, you make some good observations! 🙂 I also remember when we got Cats & Dogs, that pack came with some additional rainboots for kids, even though we had some from the Base Game. That was also like a little hint that we would be getting Seasons. 😉
One thing I’d really like to see in an upcoming patch is a return of the auto-roof feature. I loved building in the previous versions of Sims but I hate trying to fight with the roof tool in Sims 4, so I’ve completely lost interest in building. It’s too frustrating, and yes, I’ve tried tutorials. I end up screaming profanities at my game and trashing my build, which totally takes the fun out of it for me. So please bring back auto-roof…pretty please even!
@Ivalynn Pollock, even though I find it fairly easy to use the Sims 4 roof tool (maybe I have low standards!?! 😀 ), I would still like Autoroofs because sometimes I’m impatient, or other times I just don’t want to make roofs the same way all the time! It is always nice to have options in the game! 😉
While I’m not surprised at the announcement of a new EP and SP in the next 6 months, I am surprised that we will get a new GP within 6 months since last year we only saw one GP, and we have already had one this year! 😀 (Also, some people thought that they might have done away with SPs and so they are really surprised we still getting one. ) So even though this info was vague, it still was worth mentioning.
I’m pretty sure the next EP will be travel themed. I’m expecting something like Sims 2: Bon Voyage which basically means it will be a ‘you can take a chill vacation’ EP.
@Gok But isn’t there already travel themed packs? I mean correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like outdoor retreat and jungle adventure wasn’t just random garden stuff.
I wouldn’t expect them to release anything bon voyage related, when they are releasing the travel destinations individually, so they can both charge more as well as put everything they can into it without having to focus on other travel destinations.
Really makes you wonder if they are all going to be “related”. Really looked forward to it!
What about xbox one x?
