Jarrett thought he had the perfect life. A kind, loving wife whom he completely adored to heaven and back, three beautiful, healthy daughters, a nice home in the suburbs with a white picket fence, and a writing career that was just starting to take off after years of hard work thanks to his wife’s unwavering belief in him. Then Irene started to get sick…

Suddenly, life became very different. Jarrett watched helplessly as the love of his life slipped away from him a little more each day. He spent more time at the hospital than at home and their children spent more time with babysitters than their parents. When Irene’s illness inevitably claimed her, Jarrett was left a widower and a single father of three young girls who were grieving for their mother.

Holly, the oldest, was affected the most. She became withdrawn and resentful of people, demanding to be left alone and flying into fits of rage when her request was ignored. She started having strange dreams she was convinced were prophecies and drawing confusing images of gargoyles and monsters but her therapist insisted it was just a child’s grief-driven delusion.

He tried his best to push his own grief aside to be the parent his children needed but he struggled to keep everything together on his own. His career that had been ready to take off was suffering now; between taking care of his sick wife and now trying to be with his daughters, he had little time to write. Nothing being published meant no money coming in. Jarrett was still trying to pay off his late wife’s mountain of medical bills, pay the mortgage, and make car payments. In a matter of months, the bank had repossessed both the house and car. Jarrett had a limited number of days before he and his children were homeless.

That was when Jarrett received a peculiar letter in the mail from an estate lawyer for his deceased wife. That was strange… Jarrett knew nothing about this estate lawyer. The letter informed him that Irene had been in possession of a large, historic manor in Forgotten Hollow that had been in her family for many generations. Now that she had sadly passed on, the house was his. Jarrett had his reasons for being suspicious, of course, but desperation makes people do crazy things. He packed up what he could and moved the girls to Forgotten Hollow to make this old estate their new home.

But once they arrived, it became clear the house was in bad shape. It was very outdated and would need a lot of work to be restored to its former glory. It would be a while before Jarrett had the money to do any major renovations. Still, it was a fully paid off home and they had nowhere else to go, so Jarrett decided to make the best of it for now.

However, not long after moving in, weird things started happening. Holly’s dreams became night terrors that she’d wake up screaming from almost every night, Autumn would talk to some kind of imaginary friend she called “the shadow man,” and Jarrett would find bizarre things in April’s crib, like piles of dirt and old coins from the 1700s that Holly swore up and down she never put there. But the scariest thing? The prophetic dreams Holly had before they moved here? They’d all been about this house! The gargoyles and monsters she’d been drawing? They were statues from this house!

Did Holly have some kind of supernatural ability? Was the house trying to speak to her? Whatever was in this house long before they arrived here, was it friendly or did it want to do harm to them? And if Holly was sensitive to the supernatural, was she in the most danger out of all of them?

Jarrett knows something isn’t right at 13 Deadend Drive, but he’s stuck there. He has no choice but to make peace with whatever inhabits his new home… or drive it out.
