Two successful parents. One misunderstood teen. A recipe for unraveling.
For this month’s The Sims 4 Story Starter Kit, we’re bringing you a well-educated, successful middle-aged couple and their withdrawn, moody son. Both are pressuring him to pursue higher education after high school and follow in their footsteps, but Curtis just wants the freedom to create and forge his own path.

The Sims 4 Story Starter Kit: Unraveled Success
Rosa and Ross met while studying at Foxbury Institute. They’re the epitome of that couple that did everything exactly right in exactly the right order. They studied hard in high school, got good grades, and went to a prestigious university. They dated through university, prioritizing their studies and got married after graduation. Then they spent several years building their careers and their savings before planning to grow their family. That’s when their son, Curtis, came into the picture!
As highly educated, successful people, Rosa and Ross placed a lot of expectations on their only child. They always encouraged him to study hard and get good grades so he could get into a good university like they did. They even settled in Britechester before Curtis was born to ensure he’d have access to the finest post-secondary education possible. They took every measure to make sure their child grew up to be as successful as them one day.
But Ross and Rosa quickly learned that children are not always carbon copies of their parents. Sometimes, they have their own personalities and interests that diverge greatly from what their parents expected of them. And sometimes, they aren’t good at the things their parents are good at. Curtis was not the bright academic that Ross and Rosa imagined he would be when he was born. He struggled in most subjects at school except art, where his teachers always praised him for his skill in fibre arts, in particular.
Rosa and Ross weren’t against their son having hobbies, but that’s all they saw his artistic talent as; a silly little hobby. Not a future career. When Curtis developed a passion for knitting and expressed to his parents that he was considering starting a Plopsy shop to sell the clothes he knits instead of going to university, it felt like all of Ross and Rosa’s hopes and dreams for their only child were falling apart at their feet. Where had they gone so hopelessly wrong with their little boy?!
Ross and Rosa had different methods of persuading their son to see sense (in their eyes). Ross took the “You’re going to university whether you like it or not, even if I have to drag you there kicking and screaming!” route. As one might expect, it was not very effective. His distressed mother tried a softer approach; she actually understood where Curtis was coming from because she herself had been in his shoes at one point.
She sat him down and explained to him that majoring in Psychology and becoming a university professor was not her first choice for her life. It was always her dream to be a novelist but her parents refused to allow her to study literature. They said it was a waste of time. Ultimately, her parents convinced her to give up on her ridiculous notions of being a writer and pursue a more steady, respectable career in education.
At the time, she was heartbroken and angry with her parents but now, she’s glad she listened to them. She has a good job, financial stability, a nice house, and a beautiful family, none of which was guaranteed if she had chased her dream.
But his mother’s personal story didn’t make Curtis agree with his mother. He just felt sorry for her and told her as much. She of all people should be on his side if she understood how he was feeling like she claimed! It only made him more hurt and angry that someone who had every reason to empathize with him was still trying to make him miserable, instead.
The conflict over Curtis’ future has gotten so unbearable that Ross is considering sending his son to a boot camp to straighten him out. Rosa’s been talking about sending him to live with her parents for a while. If they could make her see sense, surely they could do the same for their grandson.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to his parents, Curtis has been saving up money from his Plopsy shop to run away. No one’s going to be in charge of his destiny but him! If he has to sneak away from the life he knows to claim that freedom, then so be it.
But maybe it’s not too late to prevent all of this? Is there some kind of compromise that can be made so everyone is happy? Or will someone have to give in to demands? And which one will it be?
