EA and The Sims Team caused quite a stir with yesterday’s The Sims 4 Update, breaking many CC & Mods that shouldn’t have been broken with the patch.
As promised by The Sims Direct Team, the latest Sims 4 Hotfix Update is out now, and you can see what’s been improved in the short & sweet release notes below. Please note that this Hotfix Update is only released on PC and Mac platforms, meaning that Console shouldn’t be affected as players still await The Marketplace launch in the coming months.

Installing the Latest Sims 4 Update
You can get the latest The Sims 4 Update on the following official launchers and platforms:
- PC: EA App, Origin, Steam, Epic Games
- Mac: Origin, Steam
- Playstation: PS4 and PS5
- Xbox: Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S
You can download the latest Sims 4 Update by checking for a Patch through the EA App, Steam or Epic Games launcher for Desktop. If you have Automatic Updates enabled the update will automatically download through your client program. In case your EA App is not working properly ensure you’ve cleared your app cache!
If you play The Sims 4 on Xbox Series X / S and Playstation 4 and 5 you can request a new update by checking for updates under The Sims 4 game in the Main Menu. If you’ve enabled automatic updates the Patch should download right away.

Here is a small but important fix to custom content that was affected yesterday. All CC should now load and behave as expected. Thank you for your patience as this was sorted out.

Bug Fixes
- Resolved an issue where pack-specific custom content would not fully load and triggered other CC to not load as well.
Note from The Sims Direct: Some mods and custom content might still be incompatible and need to be updated to run properly in-game. Please be patient as custom content creators and modders work to resolve errors that might occur.
The update is around 144MB on Mac.

i cant launch my game now at all. im trying see if repair game work. my birthday cant get anymore worse. it pops up an error message on your end that as failed to launch

Now my sims are crashing too, after I added more than 300 cc but with the cc I had added yesterday it worked.

Yesterday as I was updating I read from others it wasn’t working so I quickly stopped the process, that’s the only thing that saved me! I asked them for a refund prior and of course it wasn’t possible. So done and don’t even want to think about all the money I’ve wasted on it.
it went well made turkey stroganoff with rice and rose wine and cake.not to bad. im just fed up with sims 4.wish will wright came back to bring more packs for sims 2.

i know.they messed everything up in begin. that money we waste on buying the packs and kits. you would think they sort it all out not just adding more packs. that’s not really fixing anything. then they do this on us more money to get out of us.am so angry. i feel like its all been a waste of my life and my money

Mine is like that too, I already fixed it and it didn’t help at all. They ended the game overnight
its a bad nightmare. wish they would do a big fix on everything thats happened not just fix one hotfix to mess another thing to start breaking the mod folder and the launchings.they havent really thought about other bits they have missed

spent my day removing scripts mod now only got noir left in with clothes shoes hair acchair. i still won’t launch
just let you guys know i started a fresh game and new save. here what i have mods. ww,mcc controller carls no spawning,no random spawning and noir. just keep testing from your saved mods. as well if you can remember what name stuff like mods clothing etc you can google the even image search if you have pictures. i hope the best for you all.dont give yet. good luck
I have the same issue. But if I go offline and try to open the game it opens just fine.
it doesn’t like sleep in and sleep all night mod,xml mod and lot51 mod. if it works that’s ok but you need to make some cut back on mods its very tight on the above i only have four mods and male clothes not much its frustrating

I’ve been doing the 50/50 check with my mods and just can’t get the game to launch correctly with any. It’s very frustrating and hopefully it gets fixed.
i would put in mods that are updated to 18th or is compatible with latest game hotfix. if you have ww there is one animation that doesn’t work. my game wont let me go over a 1000 even with cc i have 3 mods in my mod folder that’s how crazy this is
i have same issue as well, game working even WORSE than before this hotfix…. screen is just black and nothing is happening and had to force quit the game cuz nothing happened..
It’s because of a mod u have in your game
it’s not because of a mod because updates disable mods
I had a similar issue, to get past the black Home Screen I had to move any screen overrides I had out of the mod folder.
That is a mod related issue, there’s an outdated mod causing this, you need to make sure your mods are all up to date.
I removed my mods and cc, repaired my game, cleared cache both in EA app and in files and still nada… “Failed to launch game” still pops up…
if you have better build buy or ui cheats update them cause they usually mess stuff up every update
UI cheats <– was the only mod giving me issues. saved me so much time combing through mods bro thank you

This is so frustrating. I’ve updated and repaired the game and it got worse after this update!
My Sim and her home look fine in game now but on the Home Screen she is fully un-CC’d. Also had to move my screen overrides out of the Mods folder because the Home Screen was black and Resume Game would not work after applying the hot fix.

My work even open now, it keeps saying there is an issue on EA’s end. I can’t get to the menu or homepage or anything. Ive tried all the normal fixes for it. This update hasn’t fixed anything unfortunately
I spent hours buildng a base and last time it just deleted like two things but now my entire house is filled with blue carpets that delete everything! 🙁
Everyone in the comments here right now saying their game isn’t opening needs to make sure they’ve actually updated all of their outdated mods because that is likely your issue. Yes the game itself does have issues but some of you really need to learn about how mods work and can cause issues with the game if you don’t update them.
None of the mods have updates. The game should not have broken in the first place – especially to this extent. Mine doesn’t work even with all of the mods and cc removed, thumbcashe files deleted and the game repaired…. Most creators do not have updates yet and the major mod makers have not released anything to catch up with a major game break. So not as simple as updating “outdated mods,” trust me, people know how this works but this major overhaul is screwing people left right and center. Pointless comment…
Broken mods doesn’t mean there’s updates immediately available. It means it can affect your game because it’s broken. I normally wait a few days to let mod creators catch up. Just remove any mods until you know they’re fixed or compatible.
Honestly don’t know why you are being downvoted because you are giving valid info. There are people here that seriously just want to blame something other than themselves when issues still occur in the game. Yesterdays hotfix did in fact work as it should have done, confirmed but numerous Simmers including Youtubers with heavy CC/Mod usage and even they had to remove the majority of their mods because yes a wide range of mods did break. Especially UI related mods. It is one of those UI mods causing the game to not load and it has literally been mentioned by multiple Simmers.
Thank god I removed all my mods from my folders before installing the hotfix, definetly don’t download it. It’s broken completely. It’s a complete sh*tload. Game won’t launch, and when it does it’s just a blank screen.
The update failed to start, and now my game won’t update at all. My game won’t launch either. I want my money back!!! It’s insane that I’ve spent money on this game just for it to be unplayable after EVERY update.
Yeah so the game wont even open, I tried 4 times, three times it wouldnt even launch and one time it launched but crashed at the homepage. EA needs to get it together or Im requesting a refund for the game and all the packs I own
I get a black screen. Cant launch the game. I have removed mods / included mods / removed any scripts, etc. Just a black screen.
Did you remove the cache files? Sometimes they corrupt, it could be the issue. They’re in TS4’s folder, not the mod folder.
all my cc that went missing yesterday still wont appear along with all my scripted mods
I even didn’t get the update. I have cleared EA App cache, but I still do not have the update
I learned from yesterday and I copied my entire ea folder to a flash drive. So far everything looks good. But was the game that bad the day before yesterday?
That’s why Steam is winning.
EA is ruining the gaming experience for all users with these updates designed to enable microtransactions and add even more of them. You wanted to stop users from using CC and mods, didn’t you? Well, that backfired on you.
Personally, I’ll request a refund the moment I can no longer play with mods, and I certainly won’t be playing The Sims anymore.
Still not working 19 hours in… just purchased $70 worth of packs too… What a rip-off!

It’s completely broken
for me it launches my game but at the part where the expansion packs pop up telling u that u should buy its replaced by a black screen which i cant x out of making the game unplayable
My game wont load at all now. First, it was a black screen and then I went through my mods folder, all 5000 of them and found the one causing the screen, then i took the one mod out and put the rest back and now my game won’t launch at all. Tried to sort the mods again, removing them until I found the one causing it to not work. I spent three hours doing this until it was opening again, and then went to put the safe mods back in and all of a sudden it won’t launch. WTF is going on? I’ve played The Sims for years and the last few months have just completely abolished any love I’ve had for the game. Every update you have to spend an hour sorting through mods, and now they’re updating the game every two days to fix the issues caused by the last update. If I don’t use mods, the game is basically unplayable and boring as hell. EA has run this amazing franchise with a loyal fanbase into the ground.
My game is able to be launched, but the same result as yesterday. None of my mods work. EA is genuinely one of the greediest corporations, driving this game into the ground faster every single day. 🙁 I’m so upset. I have spent so much money on this game, and I can’t even play it the way I want to…

Are we just ignoring the fact that there’s this error lauching the game now? So we get this ‘fix’ but can’t launch the game…. What’s the point would be nice to know if there’s any hope left or it’s time to say goodbye to the sims world
It’s a mod causing this. Try taking out all of your mods, clearing the cache and test loading your game without any mods in.
Imo yall (ea) did that on purpose because they didn’t want us to have any cc so wed buy from that stupid market place
Which no offence to the market place creators but 99% of the stuff on there is over priced and doesnt even match the other stuff already in the game some have no descriptions and its predatory …anyway.. I will be playing offline forever. I do not trust ea anymore .
I am convinced this is intentional (though perhaps we weren’t necessarily meant to know about it – that part might have been a slip) that it’s a ‘soft test’ of a dev feature that will gradually be implemented to make non-Maxis marketed mods an impossible thing of the past. That update was so specific in knocking out any CC / script mods, but it didn’t touch any of the in-game items, it was able to distinguish one from the other. Which means there is secretly some differing code that separates the two and will lead to a means in which Maxis can block the content altogether. Slowly I can see us being conditioned towards surrendering the mods that are freely distributed and being forced to use marketplace purchases with this micro-transaction system. I hope I am wrong, as it means the destruction of the very foundation The Sims is built upon. But if so, then this will be the end of the line for me and this franchise.
I feel the same way. They’ve become so greedy and incompetent that they don’t realize mods and custom content are now an integral part of The Sims gaming experience.

Removed my cc and mods and still no launch. Repaired game – nothing. Cleared Cache – nothing!

same. Grrrr Home page is black no graphics other than new and load game options. It has an update symbol with an exclamation point in red and it won’t let me click into anything or even close it without going to my PC task manager. waiting for the fix peeps.
I wrote software for 30+ year. I would have been fired if my releases crashed like EA. Do they even test anything.

I can’t launch my game even with a single piece of working CC. This game is pathetic.
Still missing a bunch of cc and what came back looks like its textured after the Playstation 1 graphics. I’ve gone through 8 support agents all of whom pretend they have no idea what I’m talking about with the update issue. They say they’ll escalate it to a “dedicated team.” Then they immediately close the ticket and mark it as fix unavailable. There had better be a fix. It worked fine before the update. I didn’t break the game. I don’t even use script mods.
