The Sims 4 Prairie Dreams Kit Review: Stagecoach Chic

A Little Kit on the Prairie

The Sims 4 Prairie Dreams Kit is finally here! Releasing today, December 11th, and initially revealed in the patch notes of the latest update, we’re going to go over the contents of the newest CAS kit made in collaboration with CC creator @miiko_CC. This new kit adds 25 new assets, so hopefully, this cottagecore-inspired kit will provide a plethora of new looks for your Sims to turn as they sustainably grow their own produce and tend to their flock of chickens.

The Prairie Dreams Kit – Description at a Glance

The sims 4 prairie dreams kit

We’re able to divine the general vibe of the pack from the official EA description.

Embrace the prairie life – Send your Sims outdoors with rustic outfits that balance practicality and charm. Dress for work in the garden with short overalls, check pattern fabrics and leather boots.

Style your Sims for timeless romance – Whether it’s a romantic date or a carefree afternoon under the sun, celebrate love and leisure with vintage outfits, floral patterns and dreamy details.

This kit adds 25 new assets exclusively for Teen to Elder Sims, with an emphasis on clothing items and some accessories. There is a relatively even divide of items for both the Masculine and the Feminine body types, though, as always, Feminine-framed Sims are given slightly more.

In total, feminine-framed Sims get three tops, three bottoms, three full-body outfits, three accessories (an earring, a choker, and a necklace), two pairs of socks, and a pair of stockings.

Masculine-framed Sims get three tops, one bottom, and three full-body outfits.

The hat and shoes included in the pack are unisex and morph perfectly between the two frames.

Sims 4 Refined Living Room Kit Review

Our Review of The Sims 4 Prairie Dreams Kit

In my opinion, the Prairie Dreams Kit is a bit of a mixed bag in terms of execution. On the one hand? The texturing of the assets is exquisite. The feminine frame assets all have a level of daintiness that is a theme in @miiko_CC‘s wonderful content…which is sad to say, because this paid kit doesn’t hold a candle to what you can get from this creator for free.

Overall…it all feels a bit…plain? Basic, I feel, would be a better word. Not in its informal day-to-day use, but in that this pack is full of good, plain, basic items you can integrate into your Sim’s fit rotations. Everything is well-textured and looks quite nice, but it just doesn’t pop. The masculine framed items also feel very phoned in. A ribbed tank top? Really? Those overalls??

I’m baffled. Honestly.

“Prairie Dreams” brings about the idea of something more ethereal and whimsical. Something that would play with the obvious cottagecore vibes that the pack’s assets and promotional materials display, but it all feels very safe. Too manicured. Everything is quite solid, but it’s a solid C+, as there isn’t an asset in this kit that screams “hero item” that would rip the fiver (and tax) out of the hand of the average Simmer. Maybe I’m a maximalist, but I want more (all capital letters, bold, italicized) when I purchase a kit. The Sims 4 is now past its 100th piece of downloadable content, and that content needs to be worth my dollar. I fear The Sims 4 Prairie Dreams Kit doesn’t qualify unless you’re console-locked, and the only way you’re able to acquire these items is through this kit.

Also, and this may be a nitpick (but I get paid to nitpick, so, teehee, I’ll mention it anyway), I noticed adverse morphing on one of the dresses for fuller-busted Sims.

This, along with Feminine-framed Sim having very poor morphing on their bodies in Masculine-framed clothing, as well as some iffy morphing with Masculine-framed Sims in Feminine clothing, is somewhat frustrating. Maybe it would be forgivable in an expansion with a dozen other features that needed to be prioritized…but this pack is primarily just the clothing assets.

And they look like this out of the box?

I know some Simmers will grumble about this point in particular, but your gameplay is not the only gameplay that should exist, and fixing this? It’s very simple to do. It is not difficult to make sure the clothing assets snap onto both available Body Frames. This isn’t even speaking exclusively in terms of gender inclusivity (which is very important, and top priority), but also—

CHINOS

Feminine Sim’s can’t have these chinos fit correctly on their body? Really? It would double the usage of the pack if either frame presentation could wear whatever…But I digress.

If you’re looking for more light and feminine clothing in your game, this is the pack. It’s whimsical in a very corporate way, but the beauty of the texturing can’t be denied. Now that I own it, I can definitely see myself using the items a time or two. I think it would pair wonderfully with the CAS assets from The Sims 4 Cottage Living. The full-body feminine frame dresses could also work as nightgowns, and the masculine frame peasant blouse could also become a literal peasant blouse if you want your Sims to look a bit more medieval.

Finally, I will, again, recommend downloading the many amazing pieces of custom content created by @miiko_CC. Not only does her content have a bit more oomph, but it’s completely free! Always be sure to support members of the community when/if you’re able. Even if you don’t create content, your support is always invaluable.

I totally agree with your article, I found all of this bland, basic, lacking originality, with strange textures. There are so many higher quality kits out there, even Cottage Living ones are better than all of this. As soon as I saw all the elements, I thought, there’s nothing good about it, nothing to highlight, nothing that justifies $5 (€4.99 in my country). I’m sorry to be so critical, I love clothing kits, but for me, it’s just inconceivable to buy this.

I don’t use CC, but I’ve seen reviews of this kit pointing out that many free CCs are of better quality than this paid kit.

I feel sorry for the creator of this kit.

Well I disagree. I am in love with this kit, and usually cas kits are never my thing. Everything is gorgeous and high quality and I will be using it a lot.

SimBot85

Another money grabber! It’s sad that the developers ignore players and their needs. Once again, I ask, when will the Castle Estate Kit be updated? Instead of releasing more crap, polish what’s already out. You’re disrespecting us.

Lueur

What’s wrong with the Castle Estate Kit? Are there missing swatches or bugs?

=Shadow=

O que há de errado com esse kit?

If this had been released back in January, I’d be 5 bucks short. I am such a basic b
Instead, as per usual, I will be waiting for conversions to the other games, though cas doesn’t come out as fast. The fem flare bottoms and little jumper, and masc full set outfit look really, especially.
I wonder if people will call this one out for resold meshes, too. I see some familiar stuff, I think.

Bruceleroy98

Yo who asked for these stupid kits the last 14 days? SpongeBob and Little house on the Prairie??? Not buying this crap cuz its not needed. EA is about to lose money AGAIN!

Tommy

The kits have the advantage of not being essential, and there are so many of them, varied and comprehensive, that everyone can find one that suits them. It’s subjective; no one is forcing you to buy them. EA explained that the money from kit sales is used to fund game updates.

StoogeCat

It’s kits like this that make me appreciate how spoiled I am by cc creators. My ‘Mods’ file is filled with dozens of items of clothing a 100 times more creative and attractive then this indifferently thrown together batch of blah. And all for free. A huge thank you to all those creators whose time and efforts have made my Sims look so amazing!

Anna

FINALLY, someone is being honest about creator kits. So many of them are incredible, but others (including this one) are subpar in both texture (have you seen the bow on the hat in some of the swatches?) and content. It seems like the community is giving a blind eye to the cc created kits, but is full-on bashing the Maxis team for whatever they do. If I could reclaim my money for this kit, I would.

NoCC All The Time

I personally love both the feminine and masculine items, but I agree the morphing should have been fixed. Unfortunately they never fix kits AFAIK so we’re stuck with this.

One thing I’m curious about: does anyone know how original these designs are? I’ve been wary of CAS kits ever since that creator tried to sell recolors of existing game content in the Sweet Allure kit.

val

is the sim on the cover photo for this article on the gallery? she’s so pretty and i would love to have her in my game 🙂

Fairy Enjoyer

I think this is honestly one of their best kits, and it will fit perfectly with Enchanted by Nature and Cottage Living, which are my most two used EPs.

A remarkably vile article considering these creators work for free and under tight deadlines. It’s easy to be a critic when you don’t have to do the work yourself. I’d bet the author couldn’t even tell you what a specular map is, let alone build a kit from scratch.
