The Sims 4 Fixer Upper: Café Challenge Showcase

Add new Cafés to your worlds

Welcome to our first Fixer Upper Showcase for this year!

The task was for this challenge was to renovate this rather run down and forgotten about Café. We left the theme for the Café for the community to chose and there have been some incredible cafés created!

You can read the full details about the Café Fixer Upper Challenge here!

Here are some of our favourite Cafés from this month’s challenge!

Maanondore

The Sims 4 Fixer Upper: Café Challenge Showcase

I loved Maanodore’s version of our café. It was nice and simple, and I liked how they used of the large windows that would let the lower flower of the Café be filled with lots of natural light. The added car parking area was a brilliant use of the extra space at the back of the lot, too!

NessaLuca

The Sims 4 Fixer Upper: Café Challenge Showcase

The Jungle theme for NessaLuca’s Café really grabbed my attention, and it really brought the café to life! The use of the plants both in and outdoors is perfect and the outdoor decked area will be lovely for Sims to hang out and catch up with, especially during the sunnier weather.

LamammaForever

The Sims 4 Fixer Upper: Café Challenge Showcase

If you were ever looking for a Beach inspired Café for Sulani then definitely check out this Café renovation by LamammaForever! The colour combinations are perfect, and I can’t wait to have my Sims enjoy a nice coffee here while looking over the ocean!

Everything about this renovation is completely adorable! I love the outdoor area, the little seating area at the front of the café, the colours, everything!

Thank you to everyone who shared their creations for the February Fixer Upper Challenge! We loved each and every single one, and don’t forget, you can find all the creations for this challenge under the #SCCafe hashtag!

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: Celebrate Carnaval

The recent SDX drop dumped a tonne of neat goodies into our games, including two new scenarios! The new scenarios are Celebrate Carnaval and Power Couple. Power Couple is a permanent scenario that’s here to stay forever but Celebrate Carnaval is a limited-time scenario.

Here’s how our Celebrate Carnaval scenario playthrough went!

Starting the Scenario

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: Celebrate Carnaval
As usual, we selected the New Scenario option on the main menu and selected the Celebrate Carnaval scenario to see all of the info on it. It’s a limited-time scenario. Players who wish to play this scenario will have to start the scenario before March 8, 2022. This gives players almost a full month to experience this scenario which is double the length of time of previous limited-time scenarios, which were typically two weeks long.

The description states that teen or older Sims in the household will start with some Cooking skill to help them prepare some of the dishes for the scenario but there are no household requirements for this scenario.

There are three possible outcomes. In other words, three different ways to complete the scenario. You only have to do one of the tasks to complete the scenario, not all three.

  • Cook Acarajé, Pão de Queijo, or Brigadiero together with at least one other Sim
  • Have a Sim listen to Carnaval Beats and dance to it
  • Host a party. Costumes are strongly encouraged

Needless to say, we were pretty underwhelmed looking at these potential outcomes. All three seemed like something you could finish pretty much immediately after pressing the play button.

But this is Sims Community and it’s our job to cover everything new in The Sims, so let’s go!

Not The Life of the Party…

We just went with the first random Sim the game spit out at us and used cheats to get her set up in a big party mansion in Del Sol Valley. Out of three disappointing options, we figured throwing a party was the most “challenging” of the three tasks.

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: Celebrate Carnaval
Our Sim pulled out her phone to host an Incognito Costume Party, which is a social event that comes with the Digital Deluxe edition of The Sims 4. Any type of party will satisfy the goal, however. You do not need to have the Digital Deluxe edition of the game. Throw any type of party available to you. However, we quickly realised she couldn’t throw a party because she had no friends. Awkward.

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: Celebrate Carnaval
A quick detour to the gym was in order for her to meet some people she could invite to this party. Once that was done with, we returned home for take two of the Incognito Costume Party.

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: Celebrate Carnaval
Since the scenario description didn’t mention any goals for the party, we had a sneaking suspicion that even an unsuccessful party would complete the scenario. So we did absolutely nothing for the duration of the party. We just sat back and stared at the screen until the party ended in utter failure.

The Sims 4 Scenario Playthrough: Celebrate Carnaval
And yup! That completed the scenario in under 12 Sim-hours. The party itself only lasted for perhaps a couple hours.

Our Thoughts

I mean, what can we say? We barely spent any time at all on this scenario and yet somehow, we still feel like we wasted our time. It’s difficult to come up with a more pointless scenario than this one. It’s not so much a scenario as an advertisement for the new food and radio station they added to the game.

On the bright side, it’s a good way to start off your new household with an easy 5,000satisfaction points each for basically no effort. You could dance to a stereo and POOF! Enough points to get all your Sims set up with several nice reward traits each without needing to cheat.

Countdown to the release of The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories

8

In case you missed out yesterday’s big news – EA will be releasing The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories Game Pack NEXT WEEK!

The decision behind this move of the Game Pack’s release date from February 17th to February 23rd is so that the pack can release Worldwide. Yes, Russia included!

The full release date for The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories has now been shifted for February 23rd, 2022 at 10AM Pacific Time! The Game Pack will be released on multiple platforms including PC & Mac, Xbox and Playstation. The Pack is retailed at $19.99USD – or a price that’s equivalent to your local currency.

Countdown to the release of The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories

The Wedding Venue in The Sims 4 doesn’t let you have Weddings

14

The only place where your Wedding Stories are now banned is at the Wedding Venue

Yesterday’s update for The Sims 4 has brought a new Venue Type to the Base Game – Wedding Venues!

The addition of this Venue has been made in anticipation of the upcoming My Wedding Stories Game Pack. Unfortunately, you’re able to do everything at this venue except throw an actual wedding.

I followed the instructions of the Wedding Venue, which only had one optional object requirements. It was odd from the beginning that the Venue would require zero out of zero Wedding Arches on lot, but I threw it in anyways.

The Wedding Venue in The Sims 4 doesn’t let you have Weddings

When you have two Proposed Sims you have two options: to have a Elope Immediately, also known as throwing a private wedding, as well as have a Wedding Event. These can also be seen through the Social Interactions between two proposed Sims like this:

The Wedding Venue in The Sims 4 doesn’t let you have Weddings

Instead of the interaction that lets you Plan a Wedding, there’s now a “Plan Wedding Event” both between two Sims and on the Phone. This takes you to a seperate “Start an Event” section where, if you have My Wedding Stories installed, would also have additional Wedding Events.

The Wedding Venue in The Sims 4 doesn’t let you have Weddings

I picked my Guests for the wedding and tried to find the new Wedding Venue for throwing my Wedding Event. Unfortunately, there was no Wedding Venue listed. It just wasn’t there.

The Wedding Venue in The Sims 4 doesn’t let you have Weddings

I tried it on multiple occassions in multiple saves. I’ve even tried starting a whole new save game and starting a romantic relationship from scratch to see if something had gone wrong with the new Relationship Setting. Unfortunately, the game didn’t allow me to throw a Wedding.

On the Wedding Venue.

Where Weddings are supposed to happen.

The Wedding Venue in The Sims 4 doesn’t let you have Weddings

I’ve also made sure to reach out to my team members and see if they can recreate the issue and nope – no Weddings on the Wedding Venue for them either.

You’re still of course able to have a public Wedding in the Park or even in a Bar. The Wedding Venue? Not going to happen.

Hey – at least you can build a Wedding Venue, right?

An Update on My Wedding Stories

To our Simmers,

Last week, we shared the below update about our upcoming game pack “My Wedding Stories.” At the time, we believed that our team could not freely share the storytelling of same-sex couple Cam and Dom in Russia and decided the best way to uphold our commitment to sharing their story was to not release this pack there.

Since then, we’ve been listening to the outpouring of feelings from our community including both support for our decision and concern for their fellow community members. It’s equally important for us to stand by our values, including standing against homophobia, and to share stories like this with those who want and need it most.

With this in mind, we’ve reassessed our options and realized we can do more than we initially believed and we will now release The Sims 4 “My Wedding Stories” Game Pack to our community in Russia, unaltered and unchanged, featuring Dom and Cam.

We want the entire Sims community to be able to celebrate together, so we’re pushing the global release of “My Wedding Stories” to February 23 – including in Russia.

Love is love, and The Sims community will continue to be a safe space for those who want to see a world where that is true for everyone. We are thankful for the support of our team and our values even when it is hard. Thank you for being a part of The Sims.

The Sims 4: Spring-Six Kitchen CC Pack Overview

Let’s build a Mid-Century Kitchen!

When ever it comes to building, once I’ve got a rough layout, I usually find myself starting to build the Kitchen area first before any other room. Recently, I’ve been exploring a variety of themes and getting myself to build something different. Recently I’ve been exploring more of a Mid-Century Modern themes.

After a few attempts of putting something simple and straightforward together, there was clearly something missing from the little room builds I had been working on.

The Sims 4: Spring-Six Kitchen CC Pack Overview

What I felt was missing was more kitchen clutter and more kitchen appliances. While we do have a number of different appliances in The Sims 4, simple every day objects like kettles, toasters and food processors are something that aren’t really found in the game normally. However, the wonderfully talented SixamCC had me covered!

SixamCC has collaborated with the lovely Spring Sims to create the brilliant Spring-Six Kitchen Custom Content Pack!

The Sims 4: Spring-Six Kitchen CC Pack Overview

About the Custom Content Pack

  • Base game compatible
  • Functional appliances: Stove, Fridge, Built-in Microwave, Kettle
  • Decoration: Blender, Toaster, Clutter (various)
  • Plumbing: Double Sink!
  • Build: Walls and floors
  • Comfort: Stool for Island
  • Lighting: Ceiling lights (all lengths)
  • Surface: Counters and Islands are separated by base colour (black, white and light brown) and Island Counters came in two versions (drawers position changes)

Information courtesey of SixamCC

After SixamCC reached out to me to let me know about their latest collaboration with Spring Sims, I could not wait to jump in and explore this new Custom Content pack. With over thirty new items to build with and numerous colourful swatches to chose from. I was ready to give my Kitchen builds a complete makeover!

Item Overview

Even from exploring each of the individual objects, I knew that this is a pack that will come in useful to me when I’m building with Custom Content. With a mixture of colourful and more neutral swatches to decide from, these objects from the Spring Six Custom Content Pack will really help me create so many different mid-century modern inspired Kitchens.

The Sims 4: Spring-Six Kitchen CC Pack Overview

After some experimenting with different colours, layouts and more, I finally settled on a kitchen build that I liked.  Building with the pack was wonderful! Having the extra kitchen appliances to help bring my kitchen to life was brilliant, and there is so much you can do with the pack.

The pack is available to download now via Patreon as an Early Access pack and will be publicly available on 4th March 2022!

All the Create A Sim and Build Mode objects that you can expect!

The Sims 4’s latest update has allowed players to already look into the future and see what content they should expect with My Wedding Stories.

The Main Menu has started listing new Create A Sim and Build Items that you should expect from this Game Pack. Let’s break it down!

Create A Sim

When it comes to new Create A Sim items, there’s plenty of options for the feminine fashion choice for all ages! Several new hairstyles, outfits and accessories to go around.

However, it seems the trend of equal fashion choices with new DLC releases for The Sims 4 didn’t last for long. There is only one new masculine hairstyle and several outfit options to choose from.

Also, the veil that we’ve all seen from the main render and promotional footage seems to be attached to a hairstyle and is not a seperate accessory. I’m assuming it’s difficult to find a one-fits-all solution when it comes veils. Still, there’s only one hairstyle option to choose from.

Hey, at least brides and grooms get seperate brooches.

Take a closer look at the catalogue by clicking the image below:

Build Mode

Before jumping into the Build Mode catalogue please note that not all objects are listed down here. Those include different Build Mode categories, BuyDebug as well as new world objects.

The general catalogue comes with a wide array of new seating arrangements, tea sets, wedding arches and so much more! Oh, there are also several dance floors!

Check out the full preview below:

Will it stay this way?

A few hours ago we got some first information regarding The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories coming to Russia. However, per EA’s usual fashion, it’s just a minor announcement to an upcoming announcement.

According to Russian EA Support:

There will be more information about the situation with the pack’s release once it releases worldwide

Thank you @uniisight_j for translating! Tip: @Mushilda

It seems that we won’t be getting an official confirmation regarding The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories release in Russia until other countries get their hands on their pack on February 17th. If anything, we now know that they plan to say something?

Just a few hours ago The Sims Team released a new update for The Sims 4 Base Game preparing the game for the upcoming release of My Wedding Stories. The update contains all the localized versions of The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories, including the Russian version of the Game Pack.

Now, before anyone jumps to any conclusions, let’s get a few things straight:

  • This is the in-game cover of My Wedding Stories in Russian language. None of the in-game covers contain Publisher credits and age ratings.
  • This could’ve been the initial plan to release My Wedding Stories in Russia?
  • The game still has to be localized in Russia for the Russian players located outside of Russia
  • The game has to be localized in Russia for players who speak Russian and play the game in these following countries:
    • Belarus
    • Ukraine
    • Kazakhstan
    • Kyrgyzstan
  • The game is not banned and will release in Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
  • This is what the game cover will look like on the release day in Russian language:

This is the current cover of My Wedding Stories in Russia

For those wondering, the cover for 16 different localized locations features a Lesbian couple walking down the aisle.

This is the current cover of My Wedding Stories in Russia

According to EA, the game had been banned from selling in Russia due to the couple being featured on the cover of the Game Pack.

The ability to tell stories – any story – is at the core of what we do at The Sims. Holding back Cam and Dom’s story meant compromising the values we live by.

HOWEVER, if EA had planned to release the Pack in other Russian-speaking countries, as well as localize it in Russian for players outside of Russia, AS WELL AS do a seperate localization and cover art for such areas…

…then:

what was the point in all of this?

Console: Version 1.52

Sul Sul, Simmers!

We hope these patch notes find you well wherever you are right now.

Before we get started, the team just wanted to take a moment to say “Dag Dag” to our previous patch notes guardian, SimGuruRuskii! We’ve had a lot of fun with your update notes, and we appreciate everything that you have done for us over the past decade! We will dearly miss you!

So, with that being said, *takes a very deep breath* we hope you all had a fantastic Valentine’s Day and that your Sims got into the mood because wedding season is around the corner! This patch brings some bug fixes and updates to prepare for My Wedding Stories Game Pack’s release in two days. We hope you’ll enjoy creating extraordinary experiences for your Sims! It will be fantastic to see all the wedding venues that you will create on the Gallery!

As usual, thank you all for your continued support and feedback, and – most importantly – have fun!

What’s New?

Are your Sims looking for love? Maybe they’ve already found it? With this update, your Sims have a new relationship option in Create a Sim. Sims can start out Engaged if they set their relationship to Fiancé. With this new relationship option, your Sims will be ready to experience the upcoming My Wedding Stories Game Pack to its fullest.

Do you love Weddings? What about building? If you do, we’ve got you covered. There is a new Wedding Venue lot type that can be created by anyone who owns The Sims 4. Love knows no bounds and neither do Wedding Venues.

We heard you like music… The World station is now available for everyone, with four new songs added with My Wedding Stories in mind. Previous World station songs will continue to be part of their original pack, but everyone can enjoy these new songs as part of the base game experience. Additionally, the perfect love song that was featured in the My Wedding Stories trailer is available on the Romance station for anyone who is looking to listen to it over and over again.

There are also a few Create a Sim item updates for all players. To support My Wedding Stories, we’ve added a few new items plus additional color swatches to some older ones. New items include a bindi, a toddler full body swimsuit, and french tip nails. We have updated 10 items with a variety of new colors, spanning all ages and genders:

  • 5 dresses for Women
    • yfBody_DressWeddingMermaid
    • yfBody_DressWeddingTiered
    • yfBody_DressFrillyRomantic
    • yfBody_DressFlutter
    • yfBody_DressBridesmaid
  • 2 Suit Jackets for Men
    • ymTop_Coat

    • cmBody_Tuxedo
  • 1 Suit for Toddlers
    • puBody_SuitShorts
  • 1 Dress for Children
    • cfBody_FP01Dress (Free Holiday Pack)

Additionally in Build Buy you will see that the two Base Game wedding arches and the Pergola now come in a few more colors.

Bug Fixes

The Sims 4

  • Male Celebrity Sims will no longer use the feminine walking or jogging walk style unless that’s what you prefer them to do.
  • Clicking on a Sim’s face in Create a Sim will take you to the general Face, Hair or Accessories selection mode now instead of taking you to the Detail Edit Mode straight away. Sims do also deserve a little personal space.
  • Improved performance when switching from Live to Build Mode in certain cases.
  • Fences should no longer disappear when hovering a gate over them after using the bb.moveobjects cheat.
  • Playing with Genetics in Create a Sim will no longer generate Teens with crow’s feet skin details. There are so many things that teenagers worry about – crow’s feet shouldn’t be one of those things.
  • Error 142: 9a63747c should no longer appear in future saves when loading certain lots.
  • Sim can move or travel to lots after returning from a concert now without getting stuck in the Manage World screen.
  • Selecting the yfHair_SP19CurlyUndercut_Red hair style for your Sim in Create a Sim will no longer apply the color of the hair to the Sim’s eyelashes.
  • Children should have matching eye colors of their parents now if both parents have purple or red eyes.
  • Some players reported an error saying “Entitlement missing” when attempting to move or delete walls of Lots placed from the Gallery. This error should no longer occur.
  • Obese Sims’ upper bodies should no longer shrink in size when zooming out while wearing specific outfits (ymTop_EF15ShirtCollared & yfBody_SP16Pajama).
  • Turning off the console legend option in the game options menu will now properly hide controller hints from time control and Sim selectors.
  • Long nails no longer poke through the gloves of certain outfits.
  • Fixed some issues that may cause an endless loading screen when attempting to load certain lots or saves.
  • The Create a Sim interface was a little slow when loading thumbnails and color swatches in the hair section. We made some tweaks, and the images should load much faster now.
  • There was a funky toddler thumbnail displayed under the Accessories section for toddlers. This thumbnail did not serve any purpose and has been removed. Enough funk for you, sneaky toddler.
  • Heeled shoes no longer appear glitched while wearing ymBottom_EF28JeansSkinTight pants.

Cottage Living

  • Grim Reaper now possesses the emotional fortitude to deal with the death of two animals at the same time. Life can be harsh buddy, I know.
Pants ymBottom_EP11PantsCorduroy_SolidGinger should now properly appear when selecting the masculine filter. We also updated the fit on feminine frames.
  • The yfHair_EP11BunTwists_broen hairstyle should no longer create white lines on your Sims face when selecting this hair style in Create a Sim.
  • Toddler shorts pfBottom_EP11ShortsDrawstring no longer show a gap between upper and lower body.
  • Wisteria and Ivy plants placed against a wall inside a room appeared darker in some spots than they should have. We shed some light on those plants and they should appear much better now.

Eco Lifestyle

  • Lots in Evergreen Harbor should now have some proper ground beneath them when accessed through build mode and the world should not look like it’s underwater any longer.

Discover University

  • The yfTop_EP08CardiganButtonup top now works properly with boots.

Dream Home Decorator

  • Dress yfBody_GP10DressSuspender_SquareNavy no longer causes discoloration on certain shoes.
  • GP10SkinnyJeanFlanel pants look fabulous combined with boots now.
  • The ymBottom_GP10WorkPants should now be properly resizable on male Sims.
  • The Mid Century Style Filter will include items from all packs now, not just from Dream Home Decorator.
  • Switching from Build and Buy Mode to Live mode and back to Build and Buy mode while working on an Interior Decorator gig, caused the amount of Simoleons already spent not to be deducted from the Client budget. This has been fixed now and the Client budget should always account for already spent Simoleons.

Star Wars: Journey to Batuu

  • We fixed an issue that caused Batuu Credits to be falsely displayed as Simoleons in the Household Funds.

Strangerville

  • You can harvest Bizarre Fruits from Bizarre Plants now. ΜØŦĦ€Ř… ĆΔŁŁŞ ŦØ Μ€…

Spa Day

  • Sims with the Self-care Specialist Aspiration can sell Harvestables without issues now.

Dine Out

  • There was some discrepancy in Perk points shown for business owner Sim in the “Owned Business” menu vs. the “Restaurant Perks”. The “Owned Business” menu will show the correct number of remaining Perk points going forward.

Tiny Living

  • Toddlers should no longer have a bald spot on their head when wearing hair styles from Tiny Living. Hair clippers should be stored outside the reach of children.

Blooming Rooms Kit

  • Some plants from the Blooming Rooms Kit were updated to not cast a wrong shadow any longer.

Fashion Street Kit

  • Pants ymBottom_SP24ShortsTied & ymBottom_SP24PantsLayered do also no longer cause clipping when paired with boots.

Courtyard Oasis Kit

  • The Star of Paradise Fountain can be found in the Build & Buy catalog now when applying the Kits filter.

EA banned My Wedding Stories in Russia for the wrong reasons

26

Hello all. I just want to let you know that I won’t be covering Early Access content. You can read my full statement in the twitter thread below:

Why the decision to ban Wedding Stories in Russia is not about the defense of LGBTQ+ rights

Written by @SimplyHao – lawyer in Russia

The only Russian law that somehow limits the distribution of LGBTQ+-related content is art. 6.21 of the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses. This article speaks about the propaganda of non-traditional sexual relationships to underage.

The age of the legal majority in Russia is 18. Thus, all content that contains the depiction of LGBT+ neutrally or positively must be labeled as 18+ according to Russian law. Please note that this is an administrative offense and not a crime. The worst consequence of this offense is an administrative fine of 1 mln RUB (approx. 13 000 USD) and the suspension of activity for 90 days. But the latest is rarely used because it is easier to hand out a fine.

There are some additional restrictions for the distribution of such content. Any printed product with the age restriction must not contain the prohibited for children imagery in the places generally allowed for children. There are no additional demands for the content published on the Internet – just label it properly.

Now let’s speak about the probable legal risks for EA.

The Sims games were labeled as 18+ in Russia from the base game. So, every part of the game, every pack and kit is labeled as 18+. Wedding stories are no exception. Trailers on the Internet – just put an 18+ label in the start as they do in cinemas, then proceed. All Russian trailers of the Sims have an age restriction label in the corner of the video that appears at the start. The same would be applied to the Wedding stories.

The trailer of the Dream home decorator has included the kid’s room with the trans pride flag – and no one cared. The trailer of the Cats and dogs has included the gay wedding – and no one cared. Why it would be different for Wedding stories? Just. Put. The label. That’s all.

Pictures on the Internet – just put an 18+ label on the picture and the web page.

The Russian version of the news about the Carnaval Streetwear Kit includes the imagery that, in terms of Russian law, must be 18+. No one cared. The Russian version of the news about the Modern Menswear Kit contains pictures of guys in skirts. No one cared. Every year the Russian version of the news talks about Pride month and praises all the LGBTQ+ simmers and sims with the fitting pictures. No one cared!

Everything about the Sims on the Russian version of the EA website is labeled as 18+. Why it would be different for Wedding stories? Just. Put. The label. That’s all.

So, we are left with the distribution of the material copies of the game on the disks. As far as I know, the Sims game in Russia is distributed mainly in digital. I googled briefly, and haven’t found any latest addons on disks at all. But even if they are – the Sims don’t need to change the whole image. They could make, for example, an additional wrapper just with Wedding Stories written on it and the disk case without any changes inside. It would be okay.

I have seen some tweets about the “Russian Constitution declares that marriage can be only between man and woman”. It is true. But! This is not about the media content and never has been. It is about, like. Literal marriages. Between real people in Russia. Not about some game that allows same-sex marriages in a fictional world mainly based on the US reality. So, according to all of the above, there are no legal risks for EA to drop the Wedding Stories for us. It is not illegal. It is not prohibited.

I also want you to consider that the English version of the EA announcement contains information that the ban is because of the Russian federal laws. The Russian version DOES NOT HAVE THIS INFORMATION.

For those of you who condone what EA did because “it is wrong that the game is labeled as 18+ because of the LGBT content”. Yes, it is. But I want you to consider that the demand to label the content is the most harmless impact of this law.

The law is used mainly for the oppression and erasure of LGBTQ+ rights organizations and initiatives. Films, books, and games at the moment are not persecuted for the LGBTQ+ content until it is labeled. The law does not demand to censor or cut out anything if it is labeled.

All the recent cases of censorship and cuts were about self-censorship in fear of backlash – not about some demand of the Russian government. And this is what EA does – just self-censors itself.

For all these years since 2014, The Sims games were labeled as 18+. No content ever have been cut out or altered. Every LGBTQ+ sims remained that way. All same-sex in-game families remained that way. How are Wedding Stories any different?

For those of you who think that if we still have this government and this law we approve all of this – no, we are not. A lot of people protested about the law from the beginning. But, unfortunately, we live under an authoritarian regime that gets harsher every day. The protests are fiercely repressed. The further explanations will require a whole new huge thread because there are a lot of factors that led to the situation we are in. Just, please, don’t think that you know our political situation better than we do. Listen to those who are oppressed. We know better.

The defense of human rights never should be for the sake of some abstract conceptions. The Sims team in their letter says, that this decision is for the protection of LGBTQ+ rights. But whom do they protect? Human rights don’t just hang out there in the air. They belong to people and this decision does nothing for the protection of the LGBTQ+ rights of the western people except virtue-signaling. Moreover, this decision does nothing for the protection of the LGBTQ+ rights of Russian people. The Sims games help a lot of us to escape from the reality.

To live in a world where everyone is equal, where there is no hate or prejudice towards different social groups. A lot of people have explored and understood their sexuality through the game. A lot of people stopped being homophobic because of the game – they subsequently just grew used to the conception of the world that the Sims games suggest.

We, the LGBTQs and allies in Russia, are constantly fighting for our rights and freedom to be ourselves. And the games like The Sims have been always showing to us – you are not alone. You are great as you are.

And when the Sims team decides to ban the Wedding Stories from Russia it hurts. Not only the decision itself but how it was made. All the letter is about the importance of the story shown in the addon. Nothing about us, the players. Nothing that stated – hey, we know you are out there. We are deeply sorry. Keep fighting. We will try and see what we can do for you. Just…nothing. It still would be a strange decision but at least it would show that they care.

If the Sims were really trying to protect us, to help us, there could be so many ways. They could have decided to transfer some of the gains of the Wedding Stories to the Russian LGBTQ+ rights organizations, for example. They could have reached out to the Russian LGBTQ+ simmers and make some content with them. Make some news materials, podcasts, in-game content. But they did literally nothing.

That’s why from our perspective the whole move is about looking good in the eyes of the western simmers. Who cares about Russia, right, it is a small and poor market. Who cares, that this decision will affect not only Russia but the other CIS (Commonwealth of Independent Countries) too.

And what about Ukraine? Will they get the pack? No one knows. And this is very unjust. Russia does not deserve this, but other countries don’t deserve this even more. And it appears, no one cares about them.

Please, The Sims, reconsider your decision. We deserve better.

The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories Livestream Summary

The Sims Team showed off the new My Wedding Stories game pack in a livestream today that covered some gameplay aspects, the new world, and a very brief glimpse at CAS and Build/Buy.

As usual, we were there to compile all the info for you! Check out everything we found out during the livestream below!

New World

  • The new world is called Tartosa and is inspired by various coastal Mediterranean locations

Sequence 01.00 06 16 23.Still020

  • Tartosa is a residential world but Sims can choose to vacation there through the use of rental lots
  • The world is large for a game pack world with 2 neighbourhoods and 9 lots. All lots are fully editable and were built by GameChangers.
  • There are 2 starter homes, 2 NPC households, a vacation rental, a lounge, one wedding venue and 2 empty lots.
  • The Gallery will have five additional wedding venue lots available to place down in Tartosa or wherever else you like.
  • Both neighbourhoods have lots of picturesque locations for romantic moments between your Sims and for pictures.
  • Many landmarks and features of Tartosa have lore attached to them, such as the Lover’s Tree and the bioluminescent algae that glows in the water in certain locations at night.
  • The beaches in Tartosa are swimmable locations for our Sims. They will receive special buffs for swimming in Tartosa.
  • The two NPC households that live in Tartosa have an existing relationship and lore between each other.
  • The two Sims from the reveal trailer, Cam and Dom, live in Tartosa. Cam is a painter and will tell your Sims where all the best scenic locations in Tartosa are if you befriend her. Dom is the town historian and the person to go to if you’re interested in learning more about Tartosa’s lore.
  • New sand interactions on the beaches in Tartosa. Kids can play in the sand and older Sims can draw in the sand. Two Sims can draw hearts together in the sand for a romantic moment between them.
  • There are food vendors in Tartosa that sell different cultural foods. More foods will be there depending on what packs you own.
  • There are many beautiful visual effects in Tartosa, like fireflies near the waterfall bridge at night and frogs jumping around in the water.

Gameplay

  • There are six new social events that your Sims can throw related to weddings. Engagement Dinners, Rehearsal Dinners, Bach Parties, Wedding Ceremonies, Wedding Receptions, and Family Gatherings. The Family Gathering event is meant to encapsulate any culture’s traditional ways of celebrating before a wedding. Most of these new social events were not shown in the livestream; only the Wedding Ceremony and Reception were shown.
  • There is also a Vow Renewal event but this will only be available to Sims who are already married.
  • Wedding events can be created via the computer, phone, or calendar. Scheduling a wedding event via the computer or phone starts the event immediately but these events can be planned in advance using the calendar.
  • When you plan a wedding, you can select your Sim of Honour, an Officiant, a Flower Pal, and a Ring Bearer for your wedding party. These roles can be chosen through the wedding planning menu but Sims can also ask their friends and family to be in their wedding through gameplay. Family and friends of the engaged couple may also approach your Sims and ask them if they can be in the wedding party.
  • The kinds of traditions and activities at your wedding are fully customizable. You will be able to select the activities that will take place at your wedding, such as cake cutting, first kiss, etc. Wedding traditions that don’t suit your Sims’ lifestyle or culture don’t need to be a part of the wedding. It’s up to you.
  • When selecting the style of your wedding, you can see a preview of the cake you’ve chosen and select the attire of your guests as well as the attire of your engaged couple. The cake can only be chosen through gameplay but having the preview in the Style tab of the wedding planning menu can help you match attire to the cake’s colour theme. Attire can be chosen in the menu but Sims can also pick their wedding attire at the interactable shell boutique located in Tartosa.
  • Sims can get married in all the same locations they previously could as well as at any of the new wedding venues coming with this pack. The location can also be selected in advance when going through the event planning screen.
  • There is a flower stand in Tartosa where Sims can purchase flowers. They can also pick out their wedding bouquet here. Wedding bouquets can be taken out of the Sim inventory and displayed as a keepsake.
  • The Sim who runs the flower stand does not live in the world but he is a special NPC your Sims can get to know and get information from.
  • The patisserie stand in Tartosa is where your Sims can taste wedding cake samples and choose the type of cake they want to have at their wedding. There are 9 different cake shapes but many more styles and colours within those 9 shapes of cake.
  • There are a few special cakes for occults, such as plasma cake for vampires.
  • Wedding cakes can also be purchased through the computer or your Sims can make their own wedding cake through the Gourmet Cooking skill.
  • Wedding toppers for your wedding cake can also be selected. There are SO many new cake toppers that there are filters to find them easier in the selection menu. Cake toppers can have inscriptions added to them and can be kept as keepsakes after the wedding.
  • If all this wedding planning is too much for your Sims, they can elope at City Hall.
  • During the Wedding Ceremony, an Activity List will show up in the left top corner listing all the activities you selected previously. Hovering over them will give you a tooltip with information about how to complete them.
  • When the wedding starts, you can tell guests to take their seats and send specific Sims down the aisle in the order you’d like them to walk down the aisle.
  • Wedding guests will react to the vows being exchanged.
  • There are new animations to make the vows extra emotional. There are also different kiss outcomes; sometimes Sims will go in for a kiss and end up bonking their heads.
  • Sending Sims up the aisle vs down the aisle will send Sims in different directions so make sure you know which way your wedding aisle is facing. The wedding aisle has a heart symbol in Build/Buy to indicate which side of the aisle is the starting point.
  • Group interactions help control the flow of the wedding so you can make sure your wedding guests are doing important activities together instead of just wandering about doing their own thing.
  • Married couples will now cut the cake together in a proper ceremony. The cake cutting also has different outcomes.
  • There are new dance styles including group dancing and slow dancing. Adults can dance with kids while holding their hands. There are also different interactions you can do within the dance. Depending on the Sims’ relationship with each other, some of these actions might get rejected.
  • There are two new tea sets that are functional! One in an English style and one in a Chinese style. Each one has 3 swatches. There are lots of tea options. Sims can steep, pour, and serve the tea. If you have tea during a wedding event, there are some special ceremonial aspects to it like bowing/kneeling but tea can also be served casually outside of a formal setting.
  • New collection! Sims can collect messages in a bottle! Sometimes mounds pop up in the sand and your Sims can dig them up o find a message in a bottle. There are 20 different ones with fun messages inside and the bottles can all be displayed.

CAS

  • Lots of new formal dresses from different cultures, all with white, red, and other swatches.
  • New swatches added to base game dresses coming with the patch.
  • We can add boutonnieres to wedding outfits! They’re under necklaces.
  • Child girls have more colours for one of the free holiday DLC dresses. There’s also a child suit with new colours.
  • Kids have a lot of the same new hairs as adults.
  • We did not see any proper wedding veils in CAS as in, veils that can be added to any hair as hats. We only know of the one veil pictured on the box art which is attached to the hairstyle.

Build/Buy

  • There are two buffet tables with the same foods that the Tartosa food vendors serve. There is also a drink fountain that can be laced on top of either buffet table.
  • Wedding chairs have floral and non-floral options.
  • New bar and bar back with shelving space.
  • New piano.
  • Three different lengths of wedding aisles. Aisles have a square outline that goes invisible in live mode with a heart symbol to signify where the start of the aisle is. There are decorations that you can add to dress up the aisle.
  • New stained glass windows, Mediterranean windows, doors, and arches. Open windows without glass.
  • New dance floor.
  • New styled rooms.
  • New lounge chairs that are portable.
  • 6 person round table.
  • 5 new wedding arches and some new swatches on base game arches are being added as well. The new base game arch swatches will come free in the patch.
  • Pergolas and wedding tents that can be placed close together to create larger and more elaborate tent/cover setups.
  • There’s a new base game wedding venue being added to the Gallery.

Planning a Wedding in The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories

3

Everything we know so far!

The Sims Team has just wrapped up their Livestream for The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories Game Pack! In the livestream they’ve shared plenty of details regarding Wedding Planning and what you can do to plan out your perfect wedding!

We transcribed the details from SimGuruRad and SimGuruMorgan where they went more in-depth regarding Wedding Planning. Take a look at all that goes into Weddings now!

In the Add Wedding Event, we have 7 events! You will see six here and one additional event which is Vowel Renewal which will only show up after you’re married. Right now our Sims are only engaged and so this is what they’ll see.

We have our Bach Party which is that traditional last night out. We wanted to go for a more gender neutral Bach Party, not specifically Bachelor or Bachelorette Party. No gender lines here!

Sequence 01.00 08 24 44.Still002

We have a Rehersal Dinner which is the chance together before the wedding. An Engagement Dinner which is celebrating that engagement moment. The Wedding Ceremony and the Reception afterwards.

We have the other one which is the Family gathering. We know that weddings look different from family to family so this was the perfect event to be a catch-all. Whatever a family gathering would look like for your Sims. Whether it’s really casual or you just hang out at the beach! Or something more formal and traditional, Chinese-inspired tea ceremony that you want to invite your family to. We felt like this can meet any cultures’ expectations for what a Family Gathering might be. You can host at any time throughout the wedding process!

Sequence 01.00 09 14 03.Still006

Invite Sims

We are going to plan a Wedding Ceremony and I want to show you how this is special. First off there’s the invite Sims panel which should look fairly similar. But, what’s special about these weddings is that you can select Sims of Honor, an Officiant, a Flower Pal and a Ring Bearer. In game you’re going to go and ask someone “Hey, would you be my Flower Pal?”.

There are also a few Sims that can ask “I would like to be your Sim of Honor for your Wedding”. You can do that for both directions! That will be for Sims that are engaged.

Last we have our guest panel (you can choose 15 guests maximum).

Sequence 01.00 09 58 14.Still008

Select Activities

The next biggest thing is “Select an Activity”. This is the core of our Wedding Events and what we’re trying to do here is that we’re trying to let you select the things that are right for your Sims, the couples that you’re playing with.

Sequence 01.00 11 39 39.Still011

Here is a full list of activities that you can perform at the wedding:

  • Exchange Vows
  • Have Speeches
  • Cut Cake
  • Walk Down the Aisle
  • Have Toasts
  • Throw Rice
  • Blow Bubbles
  • Tea
  • First Dance
  • Spousal Kiss
  • Drinks
  • Dancing
  • Celebration Feast

Planning a Wedding in The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories

It’s really about choosing and molding this event to what you and your Sims want.

Select Style

This is a place where you get to see how your wedding comes together. We select the cake, also in gameplay. You’re not going to select it in the User Interface but there’s a tooltip on how to select the cake for the Wedding.

Selecting a Cake for the wedding: After you’ve finished scheduling the wedding ceremony, click on a cake that has been purchased or made and Select as Cake for Wedding Ceremony. This cake can be replaced by running the same interaction on a different cake.

With the Guest Attire option you can select the color. (You can also let people come into their own attire). For Guest Attire category you also have a Dress Code option, letting you choose different clothing styles that your Sims can come to the wedding!

We have our Edit Outfit which will allow you to select the Formal outfit for your wedding couple. You can select it here which will take you to CAS. We also have a Building in town which lets you do that.

Sequence 01.00 12 16 58.Still013

Select a Place

This category is self-explanatory – you can select the Time and Location for your wedding!

Sequence 01.00 13 12 09.Still001

Edit the Event Afterwards

After choosing the details for your Wedding Event you can always go back to The Calendar and edit the details that you’ve put in. That’s of course possible before the day of the wedding!
