The Sims 4 Laundry List: September 6th, 2021

1

The Sims Team has published the latest Laundry List for The Sims 4. The laundry list addresses some of the most important bugs and issues in the game that the community have reported and that the team has prioritized to fix in time for the next game update.

Hi Simmers!

Welcome to the Laundry List where we’ll share a list of the top community concerns that we’re currently investigating and hope to have resolved in the upcoming patch. This is just a top list, there are more topics that we saw reported by players that are not listed and being worked on.

These concerns were reported by players who help us continue our work of improving the user experience on a regular basis.

Please note that some topics can be tricky and require an extended investigation on our end, so even though we are actively reviewing it’s not a guarantee that we’ll have an immediate fix for it in the upcoming patch.

Here’s the list of the top community concerns we’re investigating for the game update this month:

Thanks for all your patience and valuable help! Please continue telling us about any issues you’re experiencing on Answers HQ, we’ll continue to work on improving our transparency, and together we can make this game the best that it can be. Happy Simming!

Let’s Revisit The Sims 4 Spa Day

3

I’ll be honest, even though I’ve owned The Sims 4 Spa Day since launch, it has been a long-time since I last properly took the time to explore the pack in game. With the first pack refresh for The Sims 4 landing on 7th September, what better time to revisit one of the earlier Game Packs from the game.

I jumped into my game and placed one of the premade Spas that came with the pack. There’s a total of four to chose from, and I went with the Center of Center Massage Spa. Even just looking around the build, I remembered just how much of the pack I had forgotten about, as well as just how much of the Build Buy Mode objects I use regularly without realizing. Create A Sim wise, there’s still a few items that I use, mainly the shorts if anything and a couple of the tops but that’s it.

Let’s Revisit The Sims 4 Spa Day

I remember, when this pack first came out, I would use the majority of items all the time in my builds. The new wall and floor options that came with the pack were everywhere, as well as the new bathroom objects too. Looking back, there was definitely a handful of times when I may have gone overboard with using the new options.  I guess as more new packs were released, I drifted away from Spa Day and focused on the new content instead.

The option of being able to let your Sims visit the Spa, take part in Yoga sessions, meditate, have massages and more was interesting. Being able to do some of those things at home as well and even essentially have your own home Spa was brilliant.

I played around in game for an hour or so, focusing on my Sims experience at the Spa as well as levelling up their wellness level. I have to say, I had a lot of fun revisiting the Spa Day Game Pack ahead of its refresh tomorrow. Just focusing on the features of Spa Day for that time reminded me what this pack not only has to offer and how I can use it in my game for builds currently but also how excited I am for the pack refresh.

The pack refresh is really going to bring a lot to this Game Pack, and I’m looking forward to exploring the new features coming tomorrow!

Lets us know what your favourite thing is about The Sims 4 Spa Day as well as what you are looking forward to in the pack refresh in the comments below.

The Sims 4 Spa Day Refresh: Preview of new Traits and Aspirations

3

The Sims 4 Spa Day Game Pack is getting a Free Content Update (also known as a Refresh) on September 7th!

Among the new features and objects are also new Aspirations, CAS Trait and Reward Traits included in this Pack Refresh.

The Sims Team has showcased the new Aspirations and Traits in their latest developer livestream and for a first ever Pack Refresh they’ve done a good job!

New CAS Trait

There’s a new Trait you can pick from CAS, and that’s:

  • High Maintenance – These Sims require extra work to keep in good condition. Their problems sometimes appear trivial, and may even appear out of the blue. These struggles can be remedied through mindful habits, which puts them in a state of catharsis.

The Sims 4 Spa Day Refresh: Preview of new Traits and Aspirations

New Aspirations

With The Sims 4 Spa Day Game Pack you’ll now have a new Wellness Aspiration Category that comes with a unique Reward Trait and 3 different Aspirations to choose from, including:

  • Self-Care Specialist – This Sim wants to make it big with monetizing Wellness activities like offering Manicures or Tending the Massage Table at a Spa.
  • Zen Guru – This Sim wants to share their mastery of Wellness with the world, and train a successor to pass on their knowledge.
  • Inner Peace – This Sim is on a quest to achieve Inner Peace. Although true harmony is sometimes ephemeral, what’s important is developing tools to help mitigate negative emotions.

There’s also a new Reward Trait for this Aspiraiton:

  • Spa Membership – These Sims somehow came into posession of a Spa Membership. Nobody is really sure where it came from, how to cancel it, or who keeps paying for it each month. But one thing is for certain – all fees at Spas are waived! Nice!

New Reward Traits

There are 3 Reward Traits that your Sims get after completing one of the three new Aspirations, including:

  • Self-Care Expertise (from the Self-Care Specialist Aspiration) – Your Sim will be the Self-Care Expert and develop an expertise for all things Wellness.  Clients will now cough up way more money for their services!
  • Clear Perspective (from the Inner Peace Aspiration) – Your Sim has a clear head on their shoulders! Your Sim will be able to have a brief respite from the harshness of reality and contextualize things. Like how it’s all sort of meaningless… but in a good way.
  • Calming Aura (from the Zen Guru Aspiration) – When your Sim masters Wellness it will allow them to emanate a soothing glow! Use this newfound ability to calm Sims around them, and… well, to look awesome!

These new Aspirations and Traits are coming to players for free on September 7th for everyone who already owns the Spa Day Game Pack, and will be available to those who plan to purchase the Game Pack.

I Recreated My BitLife Game in The Sims 4 and My Sims Had Problems

14

The mobile game BitLife has become popular among Simmers in recent months and it’s not hard to see why. BitLife is a text-based life simulation game you can play anytime, anywhere on your phone. It also boasts a lot of in-depth features The Sims 4 doesn’t have, mostly due to the difference in rating. The Sims 4 is rated T for Teen and as such, it cannot delve too far into violence and sexual themes. BitLife is rated 17+ and has a lot more freedom to explore these aspects of life.

The latest craze lately among Simmers is The Bitlife Challenge, where you allow BitLife to control the lives of your Sims. Whatever happens in your BitLife game must be recreated as close as possible in The Sims 4. I’ve been a fan of BitLife for a few years now and I love crossovers so I decided to do The BitLife Challenge for myself!

To keep it interesting and stop me from having too much control, I was not allowed to use BitLife’s God Mode feature. I also had to pick the Surprise Me option for every popup where I had to make a choice about what to do.

I Recreated My BitLife Game in The Sims 4 and My Sims Had Problems

I created a new random character in BitLife and ended up starting life as a girl named Katie Cummings in Toronto, Ontario. Katie has no siblings or pets. Her parents are Lily and James Cummings (I wonder if the Harry Potter reference was intentional…) and are married. Lily is a travel agent and James is a cameraman. Now it was up to me to recreate that situation in The Sims 4!

San Myshuno is the world that most closely resembles Toronto, so I set up Lily and James in a 2 bedroom apartment in the Spice District. Lily got a job in social media and James became a freelance fashion photographer. They wasted no time conceiving baby Katie.

I Recreated My BitLife Game in The Sims 4 and My Sims Had Problems

For the first few years of little Katie’s life, she seemed to have a good upbringing. Her parents worked hard to get promoted in their careers and spent a lot of time helping her build up her skills. Everything was perfect. A little too perfect. I should have known BitLife was planning absolute chaos for the near future…

James dies in a fireworks-related mishap when Katie is 5 years old. Very shocking and very sad. So, on Katie’s child-aged birthday in The Sims 4, James decides to celebrate his little girl getting older by setting off some fireworks. On the apartment balcony. As you might expect, this is a dumb idea. So dumb that it ended with James dying horribly in a balcony fire. Goodbye, James.

I Recreated My BitLife Game in The Sims 4 and My Sims Had Problems

James’ sudden death apparently unhinged his poor widow. Immediately after James dies, BitLife informs me that Lily has given birth to a baby girl named Catherine Lebedev. Catherine is the result of a random Tinder hookup. Oof. Well, rules are rules. I create a neighbour with the same name as Catherine’s father and move him into the apartment next door. Then Lily goes over to introduce herself and ends up having a little too much fun with him.

I Recreated My BitLife Game in The Sims 4 and My Sims Had Problems

Welcome your new half-sister, Katie! Katie has a horrible relationship with her sister and refuses to acknowledge her existence. They grow up with a completely empty relationship bar in BitLife, but if Katie thought Catherine was the worst of her problems, she was sorely mistaken. Right after Catherine’s birth, her mother is back at it again with two more of their neighbours. According to BitLife, Katie’s mom has another baby, a boy named Brad Felt, who was conceived after a steamy night with not one but two gentlemen. Yikes!

I Recreated My BitLife Game in The Sims 4 and My Sims Had Problems

I Recreated My BitLife Game in The Sims 4 and My Sims Had Problems

I guess being a single mom with three kids and only her Simstagram posts for income made Lily have some kind of epiphany; she couldn’t afford all these kids. Shortly before Katie’s teen birthday, Lily marries a 43-year-old university professor named Oliver Harris and changes her name to Lily Harris. BitLife doesn’t mention whether they moved in with him or not but I had a hard time picturing a wealthy professor wanting to move into Lily’s rundown 2 bedroom apartment infested with rats and roaches. Plus I’m pretty sure Lily married him because he had money and could support all her kids. So our girl Katie gets a big living upgrade and moves into a fancy penthouse in Uptown with her mom, half-siblings, and step-dad thanks to her mom’s gold digging.

I was hoping now that Katie was a teen, life would get more interesting for her. So far, most of the drama has surrounded her parents but Katie’s teen years were very uneventful. The only notable thing that happened was she joined her school’s Outdoors Club and got her driver’s license. No dating, no trouble. Just plain mediocrity. I enrolled Katie in Scouts for her high school years and coasted through as uneventfully as she did in BitLife.

When Katie turned 18 and graduated high school in BitLife, she opted to take a year off to figure out what she wanted to do with her life. The following year, she decided to turn down going to university in favour of joining the Canadian Armed Forces. Luckily, The Sims 4 does have a military career so I had Katie take a job as a new recruit.

I Recreated My BitLife Game in The Sims 4 and My Sims Had Problems

We’ll end things here for the sake of brevity but if you’d like a part two to this article detailing Katie’s adult life, don’t hesitate to let me know in the comments! Have you done The BitLife Challenge before, yourself? How did it go?

My Current Favourite Custom Poses for The Sims 4

I’m relatively new to using poses in The Sims 4 and to be honest, I felt a little lost with where to start at the beginning. I always thought it was going to be something really complicated, but instead, it was actually incredibly easy. Looking back now, I don’t know what took me so long to start exploring poses. What I have come to discover is how much custom poses help bring your stories alive. Beforehand I would rely on in game features and default

While this article isn’t going to go through the process of how you install and add poses to your game (don’t worry, there will be some tutorials and resources linked below), I wanted to share some of the current pose packs that I’ve been using in my game lately.

Katverse

Katverse was one of the first creators that I checked out. In fact, it was actually for an article I was writing that made me stumble across Katverse’s creations. I loved the variety of pose packs that I could choose from, and there was definitely a pack for everything. I’ve actually had a few different pose packs in my game, but have found myself using regularly coming back to Pose Pack 27.

My Current Favourite Custom Poses for The Sims 4

SnarkyWitch

When SnarkyWitch told me she was creating a Taylor Swift inspired pose pack, I couldn’t have been more excited. As a fellow fan of Taylor Swift, I absolutely love this Evermore inspired pose pack. There is so much that you can do in game to help bring the poses to life even more, and they have really helped bring my stories alive recently. This screenshot is of the Happiness pose, and the story behind this image was my Sim finally feeling free of the challenges of university life and moving onto a new chapter of her life in Brindleton Bay.

My Current Favourite Custom Poses for The Sims 4Sprinkleste

Sprinkleste’s Heartbreaker pose pack caught my attention one day while I was scrolling through Tumblr. There was just something about this pose pack that I loved from the start, but as soon as I added it into my game and began using it, I knew why. Each screenshot I took using the poses quickly became my favourite and have been brilliant with bringing my own gameplay alive.

My Current Favourite Custom Poses for The Sims 4

Eclypt0Sims

This screenshot was actually caught on a bit of a whim when I was exploring EclyptoSims’ pose pack, but I loved it so much that I had to include it. If you were to go through my screenshots folder, you’d probably notice that most of my recent captures are from EclyptoSims’ Emotions 3, Looking Up pose pack. I just can’t stop using the pack!

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

1

Times are pretty crazy right now and it’s not surprising that many of us are feeling sad and stressed about things that are beyond our control. The wonderful thing about video games is that they give us breathing room; they offer a brief respite from the trials and pressures of the outside world, which research has shown is good for our mental health. We all need to be able to step away and recharge our batteries so we can face the next day feeling refreshed and prepared.

The Sims is probably one of the best games out there for this kind of temporary escape from stress and anxiety. Having the opportunity to immerse ourselves in a sandbox virtual world allows us to relax with many hobbies and activities we might not have the means to pursue in our real lives. Pursuing these hobbies in a virtual space can offer the same feelings of calm and relaxation as if we were doing the hobby ourselves.

So if life has you feeling overwhelmed, why not open The Sims 4 and try some of these relaxing pastimes in the game to rest and unwind?

Painting

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

There’s a reason The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross is so popular even so many years after it first aired. It’s very calming to watch someone paint so why not watch your Sims create beautiful masterpieces in order to find some inner peace?

Remember, there’s no such thing as mistakes; just happy accidents.

Fishing

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

If you prefer a taste of the outdoors, your Sims are never too far away from a fishing spot. Cast your line and enjoy the calm, glistening waters while you wait for your next big catch.

Gardening

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

Find rest and relaxation among beautiful blooms and tasty fruits and veggies! Lots of people find gardening to be a very relaxing and rewarding pastime.

Music

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

Pick up a guitar, violin, or sit down at a piano or pipe organ and let the beautiful music carry you away to someplace peaceful. You can also sing your troubles away as you play your favourite instrument. Just want to sing? Try a microphone or a karaoke machine.

Arts & Crafts

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

The Sims 4 has a variety of relaxing hobbies Sims can partake in from the comfort of their own living room, from cross stitch to knitting. Kids can even make all kinds of fun crafts at an activity table. Display the finished products around your home or wear your knitted threads.

Sunbathing

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

For me, there is almost nothing more relaxing than lying out underneath the sun and basking in the warmth on a bright sunny summer day. The extra dose of Vitamin D is good for your mental well-being, too! Just don’t forget to apply a generous amount of sunscreen; the sun can be dangerous, too.

Hiking

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

Going for a leisurely stroll through all that nature has to offer is good for both body and soul! Next time your Sims are in Mt. Komorebi on a nice day, spend an afternoon hiking through the bamboo trails. It doesn’t get much more tranquil than that.

Yoga

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

Another great way to maintain both physical and mental health is yoga! I love yoga in real life but keep falling out of the habit of daily practice. Somehow, it makes me feel better to watch my Sim do yoga when I don’t want to get on my yoga mat, myself.

Meditation

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

Meditation is becoming more and more mainstream and it’s not hard to see why! In our fast paced, chaotic world, dedicating just a few minutes of your time each day to quiet self-reflection can help lift our moods and train us to better control our emotions and reactions to stressful situations. It’s good for our Sims, too!

Pampering

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

Full body massages, hand massages, foot massages, saunas, long baths with soaks, incense… there’s no shortage of ways for our Sims to take some time out of their busy days to spoil themselves a little. It’s just as relaxing for us to watch our Sims relax!

Vacations

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

The whole reason people take vacations is to relax and alleviate stress but travel has become more complicated these days. Why not experience a virtual vacation, instead? Join your Sims on a rustic camping trip to Granite Falls or experience the rich culture and history of the jungles of Selvadorada. Your Sims will return home feeling refreshed and so will you!

Animal Care

The Sims 4: Relaxing Activities to Ease Your Troubled Mind

Any animal lover will tell you how fulfilling and relaxing it is to care for animals and The Sims 4 has no shortage of furry friends to help soothe our Sims’ weary souls. Cats, dogs, rodents, cows, llamas, chickens, bunnies, birds, and foxes all have the power to lift both our Sims’s spirits and ours.

What’s your favourite relaxing activity in The Sims 4? Did we miss any? Share them with us in the comments or on any of our social media channels!
