Hey, Simmers!

The Sims 4™ Seasons Expansion Pack* is coming soon, and we want to give you an idea of what to expect in each season. We talked a bit about spring and summer, but now it’s time to spark the fireplace, brew some tea, and watch the leaves change on neighborhood trees. Let’s get to fall, winter, pumpkin spice, and everything nice, shall we?

Set the Date

To kick things off, one of the most significant features of this expansion pack is the calendar. So, let’s talk about it! The calendar includes all upcoming holidays. Each one includes traditions to complete that make progress toward your Sim having an awesome time celebrating. Plus, predicted weather conditions can help Sims plan ahead. You’ll also see the schedule of your Sim’s household while checking out the calendar, including when they have to go to work. And to make even more planning possible, Sims’ birthdays will be featured on the calendar. Pop open some nectar (for New Year’s, that is) because all this and more will be in one place. Now that’s an organized Sims game.

Simmers, Start Your Ovens

When chilly weather rolls around, so do holidays! Harvestfest is in the fall, when Sims gather their closest friends and family for the grand meal. Sims can decorate their home for this special day, throw a turkey in the oven, and cook up some delectable goodies for the whole brood. Looking for an extra guest to join the gathering? You may find yourself encountering a certain straw-filled friend made especially for your garden.

When winter blows into town, so does Winterfest! Customize homes with a holiday pack and decoration box, give gifts, sip hot cocoa, and so much more. You won’t want to miss a special visit from Father Winter. He’ll be sure to brighten any Sim’s holiday spirit.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside

It wouldn’t be fall and winter without a flurry of chillier activities. So, for the first time in The Sims 4, we’re introducing ice skating. Tricks, spins, and awkward falls await your Sims when you place the skating rink. Plus, Sims can arm themselves with hats and gloves, then head outside to make a snowpal and snow angels.

Speaking of seasonal happenings, are your Sims ready to fall in love? Adventurous Sims can ahem express their feelings for each other in a leaf pile! Yeah, you’ll probably want to leaf them alone for a while. (Sorry-not-sorry for the puns.)

As you may expect, the not-so-fun parts of winter blow in, too. For one thing, it’s freeeezing! And without the proper outfit, your Sims will shiver and shake in their boots. Make sure to bundle up before heading outdoors for longer periods of time. If you don’t, your Sims will be so blue. Literally. The colder they get, the higher the risk of – you guessed it – death. Womp womp.

We hope you’re getting ready for some serious chill time with The Sims 4 Season Expansion Pack, releasing June 22, 2018 on PC and Mac.

What would you like for us to explore in The Sims 4 Seasons?

0

We’re only a few days away until we get our hands on The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack!

Because there’s so many social networks to cover and ask questions I thought it would be just easy to make a thread on Sims Community Social and help prioritize things. If there’s anything that you would like for me to explore in The Sims 4 Seasons, let me know in the thread linked down below!

What would you like for us to explore in The Sims 4 Seasons?

Snow was always a challenge for The Sims Franchise

The news about snow not having depth in The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack truly disappointed me. I immediately started comparing it in my head to previous Seasons EPs that we got for The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 and wondered why a game developed in 2014 is unable to do something that games from 2004 and 2009 were able to. Yes, it all looked fantastic in my imagination but when it came for me to open The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 for the sake of this comparison article I quickly realized why snow was never perfect in The Sims Franchise in the first place.

The Sims 2 will definitely take the crown when it comes to adding the best version of snow depth in The Sims Franchise. The second, deep version of snow that you see below looks perfect at first sight. However, there are some imperfections…

The Sims 2 has a closed world, meaning that there are no active neighborhoods and no Sims passing around (sidewalk excluded). Because of that everything beyond your lot will look less detailed, which is why snow on your active lot looks like you applied the “Bevel & Emboss” Photoshop effect to it.

The concept of deep layers of snow on the top of your roof was great, however its execution never looked 100% perfect.

Snow was always a challenge for The Sims Franchise

All in all, with all its flaws The Sims 2 still takes the crown for best execution of snow. That probably wouldn’t have been the case if The Sims 2 was an open-world game with each neighborhood / world being alive…

Snow was always a challenge for The Sims Franchise

The Sims Team had to step up with snow in The Sims 3, considering that each world and every surface in it had to be covered in snow. It sounds promising in theory, but its execution was very, very poor…

Snow was always a challenge for The Sims Franchise

Snow is so complex in The Sims 3 Seasons that there’s a chance it will literally break any world that you’re playing. Its addition of gradual snow layers makes things even worse as it gradually opens up holes near each street and corner.

Snow was always a challenge for The Sims Franchise

It was always a tricky situation with snow in The Sims 3 Seasons as you might “break the illusion” with the slightest move. One thing that the game definitely did right was the roofs, as they looked perfect with each depth.

Snow in The Sims 4 Seasons will only feature one, flat snow depth that only looks visually striking once you tilt the camera at certain angles.

When it comes to roofs The Sims Team has made some certain efforts to make the snow layers on roofs blend naturally with certain lighting.

The snow looks flat once you tilt the camera at ground levels, but there are enough effects such as snow footprints and gradual transition between the ground and an object placed outside to give you an impression that there’s some depth to it.

Snow was always a challenge for The Sims Franchise

The Sims Team had an opportunity to gamble and ship The Sims 4 Seasons with wanted, but potentially buggy snow depth. However, as Grant Rodiek confirmed himself, the team didn’t have the confidence to do it and instead went with the route to make snow without any visual depth.

I’ve read tons of tweets and comments about the lack of snow depth and the opinions are mixed with no certain conclusion if the community likes or dislikes this decision. I myself am not really satisfied with this decision, but if anything, I’m glad that there’s nothing major about snow that could visually break the game.

A Modder has successfully made a Chemistry System for The Sims 4

Remember the good old days when some Sims just didn’t have that spark? Yup, The Sims 2 Nightlife’s introduction of attraction has changed the difficulty of The Sims 2 for good. In case you don’t remember what the attraction system did, it basically wouldn’t allow just any Sim to fall in love or become friends with another Sim – at least not easily. Sims with a good attraction level could fall in love or become friends almost instantly, but Sims who are not attracted to each other would put you through hell if you persisted to build a relationship between them. The attraction system was based on your Sim’s turn-ons and turn-offs, as well as their interests. This was a feature that many wanted for The Sims 4, and now a modder is working towards making this feature a reality.

Thepancake1 (also known as Theo Jabalde), the modder who brought you The Sims 4 Multiplayer Mod is now working on a new project – the Chemistry System for The Sims 4! In a video below he explains the functionality of this mod, as well as shows off the process of building relationships between various Sims with this mod.

There still isn’t a release date for this Mod but stay tuned to our website as we’ll make sure to let you know as soon as it’s available for the public.

The Sims 4 Seasons: Calendar Feature Confirmed

1

TheSims.com‘s latest blog post about The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack mentions a calendar and the ability to plan and add important events for each day. Since the blog post revolved mostly around storytelling and fictious dialogues, it wasn’t clear if calendars are a feature that come with Seasons.

Janine marks a few days on the calendar:

  • Vlad’s arrival
  • Dinner reservation at local restaurant
  • Harvest Day
  • The big day

However, SimGuruEmory confirmed that calendars are in fact a new feature, and that they “work by days”. We can expect more information about calendars as we get closer to the release.

The Sims 4 Seasons: Hail is out, Fog is in

17

A lot of simmers were wondering if The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack is going to bring hail and fog into the game. Although fog was only present in The Sims 3 Seasons, hail was a feature that was present in both The Sims 2 Seasons and The Sims 3 Seasons. However, we won’t be seeing hail this time around.

SimGuruEmory confirmed that hail won’t be included in The Sims 4 Seasons. However, we will be seeing fog in the game as a transition through different weather types.

The Sims 4 Seasons Blog: Meet The Climates (Part 1)

8

The Sims Team released a brand new blog for The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack with their first chapter about the Climate Family.

Via TheSims.com!

Hello, Simmers! When we last left the Climate family, well, nothing had happened yet. We just introduced them and left you hanging, which is a pretty raw deal, don’t you think? So, without further ado, we present:

The Sims 4 Seasons Blog: Meet The Climates (Part 1)

Part 1: Love Bites

One week until Harvestfest . . .

Janine has too much on her proverbial plate. With Harvestfest coming up, the amount of time left to properly give thanks is rapidly dwindling. The family took a big vacation over the summer and had plenty of frivolous fun, but now her to-do list is longer than a bestselling novel.

She sips her cup of steaming cocoa. The chill in the air means it’s time for her favorite treat. The rich cocoa scent fills the room. It’s her favorite time of year.

Top of her list? Extend an invitation to her husband Arthur’s cousin, Vladislaus Straud, to visit. The last time they spoke, something felt . . . off. So, after weeks of not answering his calls, Janine finally picks up the phone and asks him to visit during Harvestfest. She could use an extra pair of hands, anyway. The turkey won’t cook itself.

Dark clouds roll in. How odd. It’s been sunny all day.

“Arthur, can you rake the leaves outside before the downpour arrives?” Janine asks.

Her sweet, silly husband breaks out of his experimental cooking regimen in the kitchen.

“Uh, sure, honey!”

Arthur calls down Summer who stomps her feet, of course. Typical teenager. The two of them get started while Janine continues to chip away at her to-do list.

Things will come to a head on Harvest Day. No doubt about it. There’s the grand meal, the family traditions, and Vlad. Ugh, Vlad. A perennial bachelor, he asked Janine and Arthur to set him up with “a healthy female” with “good portions,” whatever that means. This seems oddly specific. What are those Forgotten Hollow locals into, anyway?

Janine marks a few days on the calendar:

  • Vlad’s arrival
  • Dinner reservation at local restaurant
  • Harvest Day
  • The big day

“Hey Arthur, you gonna pick up those leaves or just keep throwing them around the yard?”

She smiles at her now-soaked husband. So much to do.

Two days until Harvest Day . . .

“Oh, it is just so nice to have you here, Vlad,” Janine says to her cousin (by marriage).

“Scale back the sarcasm just a smidge, dear,” Arthur whispers in her ear.

Seemingly oblivious to typical human experiences, Vlad misses her intonation entirely.

“Yes, yes,” Vlad says. “About my date. You have procured a tasty morsel of a female?”

“We don’t call them tasty morsels here in Willow Creek,” Janine corrects. “But, yes. My co-worker Beth will be joining us at the restaurant.”

“Wonderful,” Vlad says. “I see you’ve also been eating well.”

Arthur coughs awkwardly and both he and Janine quietly leave the room. Summer pulls her mom aside and asks what is going on, but Janine ends the topic and tells her to get ready to leave for dinner.

Janine, Arthur, Summer, and Vlad meet Beth waiting in the restaurant. Vlad completely ignores the menu to dive straight into conversation with Beth.

“Isn’t it odd how specific he is getting about her diet?” Janine asks Arthur. “Who cares whether she eats only organic foods?”

“Maybe he’s a health guy?” Arthur replies.

Janine ribs her husband, causing him to cough on his food. “He just asked her about her blood type. That is weird!”

“Didn’t he say he was interested in medical school?” Arthur asks, the pitch of his voice indicating his growing suspicion.

Dinner comes and goes without major incident, though Vlad merely partakes in a cocktail and adds the odd comment that he’ll “eat later.”

Arthur pays the bill and everyone heads for the door. Beth quickly adds that she’d love to attend the Harvest Day grand meal. A little shocked at her self-invitation, Janine, Arthur, and Summer nod and shrug.

“Sure,” Janine offers. “What’s the worst that could happen?”

Harvest Day . . .

At last, the big day is here, in more ways than one. Summer, recognizing how tired her mom is, and how annoying it is having Vlad around, even pitches in to set the table for the grand meal. As the smell of fresh-baked, roasted, and sautéed delights fills the dining room, the doorbell rings.

In two seconds flat, Vlad arrives at the door. “I’ll answer it,” he shouts to the family, who have stopped trying to understand his odd behavior.

“It is Beth!” he exclaims.

“We know,” the family responds in unison.

“We go for a walk, yes?” he shouts.

Before Janine can shout that the grand meal is ready to be eaten grandly, he disappears outside with his O-positive belle.

“He’s never allowed back,” Janine says quietly while she watches the two lovebirds in her front yard.

“I’m with you,” agrees Arthur.

“I’m glad you took care of those leaves. The yard looks really nice.”

But, just as soon as she says it, she regrets it. Vlad and Beth disappeared with a frolic into the pile of leaves, and ruined everyone else’s appetite.

“What’s going on outside?” Summer asks.

Nothing!” shout her parents in unison.

“Let’s just eat,” Janine suggests.

At the table, Janine, Arthur, and Summer begin the scrumptious meal.

“Summer, we want to tell you something,” begins Janine. “We want you to know how thankful we are for you. For this family. But, we have a surprise.”

“Vlad isn’t moving in, is he?”

“No,” respond her parents in unison.

“But, someone else is,” Janine says. “You see, you’re getting a baby brother. I’m pregnant.”

For once, Summer doesn’t have a witty quip or a snarky retort. She stops, thinking about her mom’s words. She looks at her parents’ smiling faces. The beauty of the moment.

“What did I miss?” Vlad asks, barging in.

“NOTHING,” they all respond to him. They smile at their secret, even though it won’t be a secret for long.

“Beth had to leave,” Vlad says. “Such a nice neck. I mean, woman.”

“Uh huh,” responds Arthur. “Would you like some turkey, Vlad?”

“No thanks,” Vlad says. “I just ate.”
