The Sims 4’s Sixth Game Pack definitely has relations to Adventures

4

The Sims Team’s quarterly teaser for The Sims 4 PC content revealed the sixth Game Pack for The Sims 4. Although it doesn’t mention anything specifically nor does it confirm the overall theme of this pack, we can now definitely say that it has some relations to adventures after this tweet by SimGuruJessica:

Everything we know so far that’s coming out for The Sims this year

We’re a week into 2018 and The Sims Team already has some big plans for The Sims Franchise. We got a first look into The Sims 4’s first quarter for this year and EA is hopeful to release The Sims Mobile this Spring with The Sims 4 Console expanding it’s catalogue of Expansion Packs, Game Packs and Stuff Packs.

Here’s everything that’s coming out for The Sims this year so far:

The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff Pack

This is going to be the first pack released for The Sims 4 on PC in 2018. Although we’ve been in the loop about this pack since April 2017, The Sims Team has made it official a few days ago that this Stuff Pack will be available this Winter (from January to March). Because they also have a Game Pack planned for this Winter as well we can expect the release of Laundry Day Stuff Pack some time in January / February.

We already have plenty of information about The Sims 4 Laundry Day that you can catch up HERE!

The Sims 4 Game Pack 6

The Sims 4 is getting its sixth Game Pack this Winter. Although we don’t know much about it, we did get a special preview in the latest quarterly teaser, hinting that the Game Pack could revolve around adventure-themed gameplay.

Considering that Game Packs are usually announced 2-3 weeks before their release, The Sims 4 Game Pack 6 could come out some time in February / March.

The Sims 4 Console Packs

The Sims Team and the folks at Blind Squirrel are hard at porting all the packs from The Sims 4 for PC to The Sims 4 for Xbox One and PS4. With some of the packs already available on The Sims 4 Console we can expect The Sims 4’s entire catalogue ported over to The Sims 4 Console this year.

The Sims 4 Dine Out Game Pack is the next pack coming to Xbox One and PS4 – with the release date set to January 9th.

The Sims Mobile

The Sims Mobile still hasn’t received it’s full, worldwide release ever since its soft launch in May 2017. The game is currently available in Brazil, Spain, Ireland and Australia.

This mobile game received plenty of changes in the last few months. However, it’s starting to feel like the game is close to completion. The development of mobile apps is very different from PC game development which is one of the main reasons why we found out about it so early.

EA is feeling confident to release The Sims Mobile worldwide this Spring.

The Sims 4 Laundry Day: New Hairstyles Preview

4

SimGuruGraham has shared new behind-the-scenes information for the new hairstyles that will arrive with The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff Pack this winter.

Hey everyone, it’s time for a look at the new hairstyles coming in Laundry Day Stuff, as well as sharing info about our process of selecting and creating hairstyles.

Similar to the clothing and objects that you selected via votes earlier in this project, hairstyles are something that we create concept art of here in our studio, which is then handed off to external partners for creation of the final asset. If you’d like to learn more about that specific process, I’d recommend this post which details our workflow for objects. Some of you have asked why hairstyles weren’t part of the votes that took place. Ultimately, there were two reasons why they weren’t included in the voting process…

First, it’s important to note that hairstyles are typically the most time consuming assets that we work with external partners to create. The process starts with gathering photo reference of different people wearing the hairstyle that we’re creating, so that we have a variety of examples of what that hairstyle can look like. From there our artists will draw their own interpretation of the hairstyle superimposed over a bald Sim. They create two versions of these drawings – one which is opaque, which demonstrates what the final material should look like, and the other which is transparent, so that the modeler has a clear example of the shape and volume of the hairstyle in comparison to the position of the Sim’s head. Throughout this time, revisions are made based on feedback shared by our art director. While this process isn’t all that different from other assets, the amount of detail in each hairstyle means that these assets simply take longer to create than objects and clothing. This ends up impacting our development schedule; we tend to lock in our hair selections prior to the objects and clothing, so that our artists and external partners have more time to work on them. Looking back at the votes we held for this project, not only did that mean that we couldn’t wait to include these alongside the objects/clothing vote, but we didn’t even have enough spare time to hold a separate hairstyle vote. Essentially, the moment we had the results of our art style vote, we had to immediately start working on the hairstyles. This was the one hurdle in this project where we couldn’t figure out a way to include a hairstyle vote without delaying the milestones in our development schedule.

Here’s a look at some of the feedback that was shared for the Laundry Day hairstyles. Here you see the hairstyles earlier in the process, where the drawings are a bit rougher, and adjustments are still being made. Try spotting the differences between these and the final images down below

The second reason we didn’t vote on hairstyles centers around a philosophical question of what we were trying to accomplish with this project. All of the votes you participated in for this project were intended to mimic the same development process that we follow internally. Each vote was based on the group discussions we have to select assets or features for a pack. But when it comes to hairstyles, they’re typically selected by the pack’s Art Director without a lot of outside input. Our art directors have collected a treasure trove of reference material of various hairstyles that we could include in the game someday, and with each pack that comes along they choose a few from this collection they’ve amassed. This allowed them to make decisions immediately following the art style vote, and already have ideas in place that they could act upon. Because selecting hair styles isn’t really a thing we make consensus decisions about, it made less sense to hold a vote for it, so as to more accurately represent our development process.

With all that said, here are the final concept drawings we shared with our external partners so that these hairstyles could come to life in-game. You’ll note the opaque and transparent views that I mentioned earlier, as well as the color variants for one of the hairstyles. To see how they actually turned out in-game, stay tuned for Laundry Day’s full reveal… in the meantime, you can get a sneak peak of how they look in this season’s quarterly teaser!

New SimYou Game In Development by Will Wright

22

Last year Lauren Winter, one of the graph database analysts for Will Wright’s next big thing called SimYou revealed first information about this new simulation game:

Lauren Winter: Quickly said, we’re working on one of the next types of simulation games. We are actually funded by Will Wright, who is the founder and inventor of all awesome simulation games – SimCity, The Sims, etc. This is his next thing, SimYou. You, the human, are now going to be the Sim.

Given the problem space of simulating you – bringing in your data, your memories, your relationships, your concepts, everything about how your mind works – it became pretty clear to me because I’ve worked with a lot of relational databases for many years, that relational was completely the wrong way to go. So I thought well, “I’ll research graph databases.”

Last month, new information and first screenshots were released for SimYou:

Proxi is a neural simulation of a player and a new social game and platform designed by gaming authors Will Wright and Lauren Elliott and built by gaming engineers Zecmo and Cindee Madison. Players build 3D worlds using memories as building blocks. Players begin with a single memory on a single island and move on to multi-island worlds.

The game is currently in development for iOS and Android platforms by a team called Gallium Artists:

Gallium Artists is a collection of engineers, data scientists and game designers working on Proxi, game designer Will Wright’s vision that we are our memories. We’re building a world simulation and personal AI that is capable of self-determinate behavior.

We’ll report more news on this interesting project as the game is being further developed.

Expansion Pack – The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs (50% off / 30% off outside US)

I’m not saying that this pack is a must have just because it released more than a month ago – I’m saying it’s a must have because it brings new life to the game that’s missing from the base game. The fact that Cats and Dogs have a mind of their own makes the game a lot more unpredictale and it makes your everyday routine in the game much more interesting. Plus, you’ll be stuck creating pets in Create A Pet for HOURS as it brings endless customization options!

This Mod will finally fix seating issues in The Sims 4

6

The Sims 4 keeps producing the same issue ever since its launch in 2014 where Sims would not sit properly where they usually should. However this mod manages to fix those issues, including seating issues which occur at weddings, watching music performances and watching movies.

This mod comes in different variations but it’s the best solution to download the version which comes with all seating fixes. To install it extract the .zip file to Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods folder. Make sure you’ve enabled your Mods / CC in the game options!

Challenge Yourself in a Sims 4 Build Forum Contest

0

Hi, I’m Jason Sterling. The holidays are here. It’s a time to enjoy meals and celebration with family and friends, expressing love, joy and togetherness.  However, if you’re like me, you get tired of pretending to have fun, like that and instead want some REAL FUN in the Sims 4 with build contests!

Time off for the holidays is the perfect time to join your fellow Simmers in a build contest on the Sims Forums. I have my big three contests here. I think all of them can help you get into building if you’re a new builder. They can also challenge and expand your skills if you are an experienced builder. You can go to each challenge directly from the links below. As well, have you ever dreamed of getting a Maxis Fave for something you have built. This is a great way to pursue that. Often the favorites you see on the Gallery are culled directly from the contests on the Forums where they are easy for the Gurus to see and identify. All three of my Maxis faves have come from this source.

The Oldest- “Build-n-Share”: Build-n-Share Sims 4 / Build-n-Share Sims 3

Challenge Yourself in a Sims 4 Build Forum ContestThis contest has been around a long time. It started with the Sims 3. In fact BnS continues to host Sims 3 challenges to this day. It was natural to create a Sims 4 version too. You play the part of an architect and designer.  The challenge is to fulfill the wishes of the various clients of your practice. You have a budget, some design guidelines and often a backstory of who you are designing for. This holds true for most challenges. Further, this contest is cosmetics driven and relies entirely on the pictures you supply of your build. The judges do not download and play test these entries. Therefore, you are allowed to use Custom Content on these challenges. That’s a big appeal for some.

The Toughest- “Quality Control”: Quality Control Contest / Quality Control Create a Room / Quality Control Monthly Contest

Challenge Yourself in a Sims 4 Build Forum Contest

It is a tougher contest and that’s why it’s great. I have learned more from these challenges than any other.  That’s a big part of its appeal. It operates on far more than just cosmetics. The judges download and play test every room for play ability.  Does everything work? Is a chair sticking through the wall? These things and more are investigated for scoring in this contest. Don’t worry however if you are a novice builder. They judge and score on three different levels- Intermediate (Novice)/ Experienced and Advanced. You can also enter unofficially to share your creations with others without being judged and considered for the contest. There are three versions of this contest. The first two links for this contest have a two week time frame. The monthly version is a non-judged just for fun entry. So, if you’re nervous, you can always try that one first.

The Nicest- Rosemow’s “One room, One week, One Theme”:  One room, One week, One theme

Challenge Yourself in a Sims 4 Build Forum ContestDespite it’s reputation I find most everyone on the Sims Forum and certainly within the creative posts to be nice. However, there is one person that stands out in their exceptional ability to have a positive attitude and a helpful demeanor in all situations, Rosemow. She oversees the One Week/ One Theme/ One Room Contest. This can be a great challenge for beginners as the time frame is manageable and so is the size of the challenge. The themes are always delightful. So to are Rosemows reviews and always kind words. As well, if you have ever been afraid to approach the infamous forums and it’s unruly band of miscreants then start here. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by everyone you meet. The same can in fact be said of all the challenges shown.

I hope you’ll try one or all of these contests to add another dimension to your Sims play. Do you know of any other contests or challenges on the Forums, Facebook or anywhere else. Please feel free to share them in comments. I’d love to check them out. Visit me on Twitter @JasonSterling70
