Sims Camp 2017 Blog: Day 2

0

Sims Camp 2017 trip has been sponsored by EA!

Day 2 started off really messy – I had to re-charge everything and I only had one power socket converter that converts the pins from EU to US. I was using my laptop as a source to charge my laptop, my power bank and my phone (really lucky it didn’t blow up).

Sims Camp 2017 Blog: Day 2

I met up with more lovely simmers downstairs at the lobby and we quickly came to an agreement to tour the city. Since most of us had the desire to go for souvenir and clothes shopping and then visit the Golden Gate we took an Uber (well, the other 2 groups took an Uber – Xmiramira, MoonLiteWolf, Fezet, Karol and me took a Lyft). All of us eventually met up at the Painted Ladies. When we stopped the driver pointed at the houses below and we immediately figured out it was the row of houses used to film the intro for Full House.

The view of the San Francisco downtown was just mesmerizing…

Sims Camp 2017 Blog: Day 2

The other 2 groups arrived and we started walking uphill (and then downhill) a couple of times until we arrived at a supermarket where we got most of our San Francisco souvenirs. We continued romaing through the clothing stores and other random streets when suddenly Karol from DotSim told me to look behind me and see if I can recognize the person. Most of us turned around at the same time and everyone started questioning “Is that SimGuruJM?!?”. We didn’t even think twice and started shouting “SimGuruuu, SimGuruuuu” to a person 30 meters from us hoping that he’ll hear us. He looked behind him but sadly didn’t manage to recognize any of us. We started wondering if we found SimGuruJM’s doppleganger or was that really him (The next day SimGuruJM confirmed to us all that it was actually him).

We continued with our trip for the next few hours just taking random photos of the streets and houses and chatting with each other.

Everyone eventually agreed to finish off our trip at the Golden Gate as the fog suddenly came all over the bright blue sky. We were a bit disappointed that, once we arrived, the entire bridge was missing.

Sims Camp 2017 Blog: Day 2

Luckily, it started to clear up a bit..

Sims Camp 2017 Blog: Day 2

We took plenty of photos and selfies and it was time to head back to the hotel just 30 minutes after as it wasn’t only foggy but really windy and cold as well.

We talked a lot about the day and the 2-day event that was ahead of us and it was finally time to go to sleep. I went back to my room at around 10PM but couldn’t leave my bubble bath until midnight.

The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff: Let’s Re-Imagine the Toddler’s Park

Hi, I’m Jason Sterling. This is a build tutorial for a themed toddler’s park. Like most of my tutorials you’ll need a basic knowledge of these key build cheats and tools.

  • BB.MoveObjectsOn (MOO) You can use this cheat to free place items within the build grid map.
  • BB.IgnoreGameplayUnlocksEntitlement (IGUE) This will give you access to all reward related objects.
  • BB.ShowHiddenObjects (SHO) This reveals nearly all of the build catalog objects that are used during game play.

I also heavily use the “]” and “[“ keys to enlarge and shrink objects and the “9” and “0” keys to raise and lower objects. Hold onto the object and press the key to use the function.

I’m a fan of both toddlers and Toddler’s Stuff. So, I wanted to make something new for that life state using the new pack. The pack is centered on the outdoors. Naturally, I decided to build a park and naturally, I wanted it to be different. The toddler oriented pocket park (only 20×15) below was my start. It’s nice enough. It works well as it is.

The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff: Let’s Re-Imagine the Toddler’s Park

However, I wanted to see something more themed. When I first saw the toddler tunnel system in the new pack I was reminded of a rabbit warren. From there I thought of the story of Peter Rabbit. I decided it would be fun to theme the little toddler park around that story. You can see the end result below. In the pictures following you’ll see how I put the lot together.

The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff: Let’s Re-Imagine the Toddler’s Park

Instructional Example for the Toddler’s Park:

I added several different objects using MOO and the 9 height slider. Most of the objects intersecting the tunnel system would normally block it’s use. However following these simple instructions you can circumnavigate that blockage.

Below we have the basic park with the building grid overlay. Turn off the grid by pressing the “G” key on your keyboard. (#1) Drop the camera down one level. Then, create an empty basement under the area you want to work on. It doesn’t have to be exact. In my example I have placed the bathroom/ snack machine area here as well. I also leave the area open to the outside via the stairwell. This is necessary for the objects we will be using to maintain their normal daylight coloring. (#2) Leave the basement in the highlighted form. Return to the ground level . Click on the yellow band outlining the basement below. This will give you the option to “remove ceiling”. Click on that option. (#3- #4)

The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff: Let’s Re-Imagine the Toddler’s Park

We proceed with adding items to the tunnel object. The example below outlines creating the “watering pail”. Peter Rabbit hides in one during the story. Start with the generic bucket. You find this by activating the SHO cheat. Then type “bucket” into the search box in build mode. Place it in the basement under the area you want it at ground level. (#1) Enlarge the object if needed. (#2) Hold the object and press the “9” key to raise it to the correct height. Then adjust the placement by holding the “ALT”  key and sliding it until it fits visually. I have done this with both the bucket and the “Small Dome Water Emitter” below. (#3-#4) It’s that simple. You can do this with any objects you wish. Your toddler will still use the original object in the usual way but with a more charming, themed feel.

The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff: Let’s Re-Imagine the Toddler’s Park

Inspirational Examples:

The first is the finished Peter Rabbit from various viewpoints. The second is Alien Planet with Pirate Cove following. They all use the same basic park layout. You’ll notice I change the coloring and furnishings to some extent to fit each theme.

With this park toddlers can escape the McGreggor garden- and escape being put into a pie by Mrs. McGreggor- by navigating the hedge maze and sliding to safety down the slide. I used gnomes as mascots in each park. In this one they’re naked. That’s a nod to the story of Peter Rabbit losing his clothes when he escaped under the gate.

The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff: Let’s Re-Imagine the Toddler’s Park

There’s an interesting feature here. I placed the steam/bubble grates in the basement under the “alien ball pit”.  These create a foggy surround for it as though it’s on an alien planet.

The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff: Let’s Re-Imagine the Toddler’s Park

The Pirate Cove below is loads of fun. Like the Alien Planet above, it fits with the imagination features that come with Toddler Stuff. A cool feature here is the placement of the domed copula on the tunnel system. Toddlers will poke their heads up through it as you can see in the photos. It looks entirely natural as though it was designed to be used that way.

Like always, I hope these articles inspire you to try something different with your builds. If you have any questions please post below. If you ever have something you’ve built that you’d like to share please post that as well. We’d all love to see it!

The toddlers escaping the Peter Rabbit Park enclosure by sliding out of it was partially inspired by this article by HollieBB here on the Sims Community. She details a great technique for building a toddler sandbox with a slide entrance. You should check it out here:  https://simscommunity.info/2017/08/26/the-sims-4-creative-construction-slide-into-the-sandbox/

The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff: A Day in the Life

0

If you’re like me, you were thrilled when The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff came out! Our tiny tots were in sore need of more hairstyles, clothes and fun activities for them to do. I was especially excited about the gameplay objects being more outdoor-oriented because now I have a reason to take my adorable little gremlins out to the park for a playdate.

And of course I had to do a Day in the Life segment on such a cute new stuff pack, so let’s dive into the Manning family’s first day in their new home!

Meet Ethan Manning, single father to a pair of adorable twin girls, Summer and Autumn.

After a bitter breakup, Ethan found himself with sole custody of these rambunctious tots and had to put his rockstar ambitions aside for them. He gave up his bachelor pad in San Myshuno and moved to the suburbs so he could focus on raising his daughters. Trouble is, Ethan’s not exactly a pro at this whole dad thing, yet. He feels a little in over his head.

Poor Ethan can’t even seem to help one daughter down the slide without bumping into his other daughter and knocking her over! Let’s see if we can help Ethan out and get him and his girls off to a good start in their new neighbourhood, shall we?

[vc_message]Ethan and the twins are CC-free and available for download! Look for SnarkyWitch in the Gallery![/vc_message]

I take some time to spruce up Ethan’s backyard with lots of goodies from the The Sims 4: Toddler Stuff pack. What better way to kick off a new life in a new town than to throw a housewarming party, right? Since Ethan’s main concern is making sure Summer and Autumn have friends to play with, he’s going to invite some people who have toddlers over for a playdate.

Autumn can’t wait for the guests to arrive, however. That ball pit looks too tempting! She rushes over and takes a dive straight into a flat mess of chunky pixels an oasis of fun!

[vc_message]Make sure the caregiver hosting the playdate knows a few toddlers from around town! I wasn’t able to invite any guests to the party at first because Ethan didn’t know anyone. I had to add some toddlers to a few households and have Ethan go introduce himself to them before I could invite anyone to the playdate. Toddlers will show up with one of their caregivers.[/vc_message]

It looks like some of our tiny guests have arrived and they’re already acting adorable. Little Meghan and Todd Lothario give each other a big hug before running off to go play with all the toys Ethan put out in the yard for the kiddies to enjoy.

With the backyard starting to fill up with toddlers and their caregivers, Ethan starts grilling up a storm on the new grill that came with this pack. He’s already got the picnic table all set up. Maybe he can bond with some of the other parents over burgers while the kiddos enjoy all the playground equipment. He’s hoping to learn a thing or two about parenting from his neighbours.

[vc_message]Can you spot some familiar faces at the party? I gave the Goths, Landgraabs, Pancakes and Spencer-Kim-Lewises one toddler each and Don has three toddlers! One each with Katrina, Nina, and Dina. They’re not currently up for download but if you would like them to be, gimme a shout in the comments![/vc_message]

The burgers are ready and Ethan proudly deposits the platter on the picnic table right next to all the party cutlery! He can’t wait to kick back with some of the parents at the party and get valuable parenting tips from the group while the kiddos have fun.

Ethan forgot the one thing every parent of a toddler should know; if you have food, your kid can sense it a mile away and they want it. It doesn’t matter what it is. If you have it, they want it.

Poor Ethan ends up sharing his table with a bunch of two-year-olds. Their babbling nonsense isn’t nearly as enlightening as the parenting advice he was hoping to get. Can’t a man eat a burger in peace around here?!

At least the tiny tots like the food and full bellies lead to less crying.

[vc_message]Cook for the kids! Since the caregivers of the toddlers are just chaperones and aren’t technically guests at your playdate, calling everyone to a meal won’t bring them to your platter, but your toddler guests will all come running as fast as their stubby little legs can propel them![/vc_message]

What would a toddler playdate be without a few temper tantrums and meltdowns? There is no way you can put a dozen toddlers together in the same area for an extended period of time and not experience at least one bout of tiny gremlin rage.

Poor Megan Lothario made it to the top of the jungle gym, but now that she’s there, she’s realised that being so high up can be scary. Hopefully, she’ll dry her tears and find her way back down to the bottom soon.

As for her brother? Well, he’s decided Ethan’s backyard could use an “artistic” touch. Um, caretaker? Don? Nina? Dina? Katrina? Anyone? Are you going to get over here and actually discipline this child, or…? No? Okay then.

As the sun starts setting and the party begins winding down to a close, Ethan gets in a little bit of fun with his girls. He’s not sure if he got much valuable advice from his neighbours, but Summer and Autumn sure had a lot of fun and made plenty of new friends, so Ethan still considers the party a success. Maybe he’ll invite a few of the parents over on another, less hectic day to forge some friendships of his own.

As for Summer and Autumn? Well, what better way is there to celebrate moving to a new town than ball pits, slides, jungle gyms and lots of kids their own age to play with? If today was a preview of what their lives in their new home are going to look like, they can’t wait to experience all of it!

I think we’ve done a good job of giving Ethan and his daughters the best possible start to their new lives, don’t you?

SimGuruGraham gave us a preview of the new rugs that are coming to The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff.

Unlike the stacked rugs that we got with The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff that cannot be unstacked, the Art Director for Laundry Day made sure that this doesn’t happen with the latest stuff pack.

The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff: Vote for the Stuff Pack icon!

6

TheSims.com just published an official poll + blog letting you pick the icon for The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff Pack!

Introducing… The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff! Just last week, you helped select an official name and today, you’re invited to participate in the final vote we’ll be holding for this pack. That said, it certainly isn’t the last opportunity to influence what gets created. We’re right in the middle of production, and things are progressing rapidly. Development updates are being shared on my twitter, @SimGuruGraham, and on our dedicated section of the official forums, SimGuruGraham’s Corner.

Now is the time to share your thoughts on the progress you see, and to speak up with your feedback.

Selecting an icon for a pack is a process that starts similarly to how we choose a name. Production and marketing share ideas back and forth, only this time with clip art examples to get the ball rolling. Once we have suggestions on what could visually represent the pack, we hand those ideas off to a brand design agency who takes each idea and develops it into an icon for consideration.

This agency has helped define the identity of The Sims 4 packaging that you see on store shelves – going all the way back to base game. We continue to partner with them to assist in developing the branding for each pack that’s released. Sometimes an icon immediately stands out among the group as the obvious choice. Other times we narrow the selections down, and ask for some further revisions on the ideas that we think show promise.

Today, your vote will assist in the final steps of this process. We’ve worked with our partners to create four distinct icons that could represent this pack. Please choose your favorite!

Voting ends on September 15th, 2017 at 10AM PT.

The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff: Vote for the Stuff Pack icon!

If you’ve been following Stuff Packs, then the image shared below should be immediately recognizable from The Sims 4 Backyard Stuff. You can see we explored a number of other ideas that didn’t get used. We felt like the picket fence was a pretty iconic (forgive the pun) visual that people commonly associate with fencing in a yard, but it didn’t say anything about the new gameplay. We toyed with the idea of incorporating the pack’s main gameplay object in the icon, and tried to explore iconography for a lawn water slide. Attempting to fit such a long, narrow object in a small icon proved to be a challenge. In the end, we settled on the simple visual of a glass of lemonade. It represented the new drink pitcher that was included in the pack, as well as capturing the casual “backyard feel” the pack was aiming for.

The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff: Vote for the Stuff Pack icon!

As development on The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff proceeds, we’re seeing more gameplay take shape. Once we entered production, the next major date in our development schedule is set for October 6th, which is our Alpha submission milestone. An alpha milestone is defined as the pack being “feature complete” (a.k.a. every piece of functionality detailed in the design has been implemented in-game).

To help us move forward, the first thing we did was get an initial gameplay prototype running within a week of entering production. This allowed us to see Sims generating piles of clothes when changing outfits, and then being able to take those clothes to a hamper, from a hamper to a washer, and from a washer to the dryer in-game. Essentially, we can complete a full gameplay loop, and start to get a sense for how the features will play in-game. Although that core functionality in place, there’s still a whole lot of work left to implement to fully realize the entire laundry system.

While today’s icon vote is the final survey we’ll hold for The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff, please continue to share your feedback on our development updates. Your comments will influence the decisions we make, as we still have lots of work left to do on this pack. The best place to share your thoughts and to ask questions continues to be in SimGuruGraham’s Corner, the section of our official forums that’s dedicated to this project.

You may find answers to commonly asked questions in the FAQ.

The Sims Mobile: New Update! (September 12th, 2017)

The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff’s Ball Pit has been Fixed

1

We complained, wrote dozen of articles about it and it even became a meme in the simming community. But, The Sims Team tried to learn something from that and has finally given The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff Pack’s Ball Pit a new, visual upgrade. Instead of making it just a flat surface, The Sims Team made the ball pit texture more “wavy” and curved, making it look more natural. Not only that but there are more than just 10 balls popping out of the surface!

The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff’s Ball Pit has been Fixed

Because of this decision we have decided to give The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff Pack another star under the “Build Items” section on our Toddler Stuff Review. The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff is now rated 3.3 by us instead of just 3.

This is a wonderful example of how not only The Sims Team listens to our feedback but how important it is to really say what we mean about certain aspects of the game.

Patch Notes

Update: 09/12/2017 – PC Version 1.34.18.1020 / Mac Version 1.34.18.1220

Aroooo Simmers,

Ok, it’s a little early to jump into the pet puns… sure it’s been ruff, but if we all keep trying to hold on to that feline, I’m sure we can mutt’le through. Just a little bite longer, before you too can fetch your very own pets. O – kay? Nine… eight… ah, a countdown just breeds melan-collie… So instead, let’s all raise a hound of appawse, and heel in for a few issues we retrieved, and try to think pawsitively until pets is pup and running!

THE NEW

New Create a Sim assets:

  • For adults – a hair, necklace, jacket, and pants, full body outfit, and top.
  • For children – a top, and bottom

New objects:

  • Some architectural pieces – fence, chimney, 2 windows, and an awning.
  • And some objects – a mirror, bed, chair, living chair, sofa, potted plant, and a duck.
    • Yes… a duck, it’s wooden.

We have also made some small Gallery changes. When you are viewing the catalog details page for a catalog item in the Gallery:

  • The comments section will always be visible on the right side.
  • The catalog information will always be visible on the left.
  • And Information about what packs are used by the catalog item will now be found along the top of the information and comments section.

THE ISSUES

General

  • We addressed an issue…
  • We addressed an issue? Really… how many times have you used the phrase we addressed an issue? Stop addressing them and fix…
  • Woah, woah… we can’t use that word.
  • You can’t use the word “fix”?
  • Not when pets are just around the corner.
  • *sigh* As I was saying, WE ADDRESSED AN ISSUE that would cause an incorrect save to appear in the load menu, if you cancelled a Save As action or used Save As to overwrite an existing save.
      • Yaaaaaaaaaaaaawn.
  • We’re done here.
  • We fixed an issue that was preventing Sims from autonomously using the television if they did not own Movie Hangout Stuff.
  • I have decided not to add anything more to this issue in order to make the reading of these notes quick and easy, without padding any extra space by just randomly talking about nothing in parti…
  • Oh shh…

Toddler Stuff

·       We have improved the visuals around the ball pit.

o   The ball pit itself looks exactly like it did, we just made the area around the ball pit look better?

§  No!

o   We made the area around the ball pit look worse?

§  No, we improved the visuals of the ball pit.

o   Why did you say around?

§  It’s a common phrase… like killing time.

o   How could you?!

·       Toddlers will now be able to autonomously cancel their use of the ball pit if they chose to play within it autonomously.

Get to Work

·       The Be Prepared Security Gate can now be placed on tall, small, and in all between fence sizes.

City Living

·       The Tree in a Box now has category tags properly associated with it.

·       Sims with the isWeirdo and isCityRepair hidden traits will now properly age if they have been added to your family…

o   …via marriage, adoption, squatting, cheating, osmosis, merging, incorporation, bonding, bunching together, teaming up, tagging in, or any other means of joining, going in league with, wedding, binding, banding, plugging in, hooking up, fusing, coupling, associating, blending, joining the same bracket, or just tacking things together.

Thanks again for your time and mastiff amounts of feedback,

The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs will integrate with Parenthood’s Character Values

0

SimGuruDaniel has confirmed on Twitter that Parenthood’s Character Values system will integrate with The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack. How so?

It’s quite simple. If your Child and Teen Sims take care of their Pets they’ll be rewarded with positive Responsibility Character Value points. There’s currently no information if the same thing will apply for Toddlers considering they’re, well, just toddlers.
