The Sims 4 Console Edition: PlayStation 4 Blog

0

With the announcement of The Sims 4 coming to PlayStation 4 later this year, here’s a blog post from Michael Duke who is the Senior Producer for The Sims 4 on PlayStation 4.

Greetings Simmers! I’m thrilled to announce that The Sims 4 is finally coming to PlayStation 4 November 17th!

Over the last couple of years, we have heard from many of you about how much you want the game to come to console, and I have been right there with you. I love our PC game, but what I’ve really wanted is to plop down on my sofa, and play with my Sims at a larger than life size. And in just a few months, you can do just that right alongside me on PlayStation 4.

For those of you unfamiliar with The Sims, it is a game that gives players the imaginative power to create and control virtual people and play with moments of their lives. You can create and customize who you want; find your first love; land your dream job; build the perfect home; start a family; and more. The Sims offers you a sandbox for you to tell, observe, or influence life’s little dramas, while offering one of the most sophisticated character creation tools in the market.

And soon, you’ll be able to jump in the game to create yourself, your friends, your family, or maybe something a little more out of this world on your PlayStation 4. The only limit to what you can create is in your imagination.

To be clear, this is not the first time we have brought The Sims to console – but it is the very first time throughout the history of the franchise that you can experience the gameplay and content that the PC game offers. The current generation of hardware has enabled us to translate code to PlayStation 4 without any major system changes, so that it is no longer about which platform has the superior version, but where you like to play.

Right now, the team is currently preparing for launch (looking for bugs, and making little improvements that will ensure this is the best Sims game EVER on console). It is certainly no small task to try and bring a PC game over, but we are doing a lot of iteration and testing to make sure we meet your high standards and deliver an experience we will all enjoy for years to come.

In the meantime, pre-order The Sims 4 Standard Edition on console and get The Sims 4 Perfect Patio Stuff Pack*, offering hot tubs, more fashion, and bonus décor to customize your Sims experience with.

And for those looking for even more fun, pre-order The Sims 4 Deluxe Party Edition* to get the same great Stuff Pack as well as:

  • Unlocking Early Access to the Full Game, up to three days in advance of the worldwide launch on November 17;
  • Life of the Party Digital Content, featuring the Flaming Tiki Bar and sleek, stylized outfits for your Sims;
  • Up All Night Digital Content, featuring the Laser Light Show, fun decorations, and outrageous party costumes;
  • Awesome Animal Hats Digital Content, featuring a collection of fun animal hats for your Sims to wear and show off.

We are so excited to share more with you over the coming months, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts when you get to experience the game on PlayStation 4 this fall.

Happy Simming!

The Sims Through the Years: 26th July

The Sims 3: Town Life Stuff released on this day 6 years ago, the pack was intended to give new life to existing worlds as well as adding some new objects and clothing. The theme had a very modern theme to it, the lots were available for players to place wherever they like.

The pack got mixed reviews, but I believe it added something new to the game and made playing in the same worlds feel different.

People are trying to break world records with The Sims 4

Who knew that The Sims 4 would turn into a competition game?!

People from all over the world are trying to break world records by completing simple tasks in The Sims 4. For example, trying to get married and have a baby, maxing out a skill or having your baby taken away by child services. Pretty simple, right?

Well, not really. The rules of most of these speedruns require you to not use any cheats. Furthermore, every loading screen that you encounter in game will count in your speedrun.

Player SimplySeze managed to make her Sim get pregnant, have a baby and have it taken away by child serices in just 15 minutes and 38 seconds. Check out her speedrun below, which also covers world records such as Get Engaged (2:03) and Get Married / Have a Baby (14:17).

Another player MrSuma Speedruns managed to break the world record at maxing out in a career in The Sims 4. Yeah, it only took this player 1 hour and 18 minutes to finish the Scientist career, which isn’t easy to achieve.

Think you can do better? Check out The Sims 4 Speedruns page and submit your speedrun video!

The Sims 4 Build Tips: Get Out of your Building Comfort Zone!

Hey Simmers!

Today I’d like to talk about something that every builder has probably faced, whether they’re new or seasoned. Designers, artists, and yes, Sims builders, can fall into patterns and develop a go-to style that they always seem to gravitate towards. You may be a modern minimalist, a clutter queen, or a castle junkie; whatever the case, the scenery always seems to be similar to the last build you’ve created.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s very important to get enjoyment from your builds. If old style cafes are your thing, then by all means, keep them coming! Feeling good in what you’re creating is important, however getting out of your comfort zone every once in awhile can have many benefits.

If you only work within a set style, you miss out on developing other design techniques. I would encourage everyone, even those who don’t consider themselves to be great builders, to try something completely different every once in awhile. In this article I’ll give you a few Sims 4 build tips to aid you while going down a different design path.

Identifying Your Strengths

If you create in the same style all the time, you’re going to be extremely efficient in your builds. Your instincts are well developed and you feel like a build flows effortlessly. Identify what it is you do best, and try to do the opposite for your next lot.

Create a Plan

If you’ve only ever created a modern style home, then building a castle may seem impossible. Don’t go in blind! Even though you can start a modern house build without looking at any references, doesn’t mean that you could do the same with an old medieval tower. Do some research, find some references, and dissect each element of the style.

Don’t Be Too Hard On Yourself

Building out of your comfort zone may produce something that makes you feel like you didn’t do your best. Don’t give up! Keep building. Your next one will be much better. Practice makes perfect!

Take Part in Challenges

Creating challenges is one way for me to think outside of the box, which is why I like to have a random dice roll component within the rules. Participating in small build challenges every once in awhile can keep you on your toes while developing some skills you never knew you had!

This article is in no way trying to force you to do something you don’t enjoy. Perhaps it  can just be a reminder that trying new things can result in new favourites, too! What are your favourite Sims 4 build tips? Let me know in the comments below!

Our Opinion: The Sims 4 For Consoles

As you may be aware, it has recently leaked that The Sims 4 is coming to consoles! In this edition of Our Opinion we will be discussing what the staff of Sims Community think of this latest news. Please note while this article is based off the opinions and views of some of the staff it is not a reflection of the whole team.

We agree as a whole that this news is definitely good, it broadens the user base of the game and means that The Sims 4 must be doing pretty well, well enough to port it onto another two (speculation) platforms. It also means that EA will earn much more money from the game meaning it will continue to be developed and new packs will be released.

SnarkyWitch – I’m glad it’s coming to console. I probably won’t be getting it if it really is an exact replica of the PC version since I already have it for PC plus almost all of the add-on packs, but this will allow a lot more people to enjoy the game. Not everyone has a PC that can handle The Sims 4. Consoles make games more accessible to a wider variety of players. Plus Simmers have been asking for an exact replica of the PC version on console since The Sims 2. This is exactly what the community has been begging for, so it’s a good move.

Although The Sims 4 isn’t the most power hungry game it still requires a beefy computer to play it at it’s full potential, this means that unless you’re willing to play it in very low graphics with a low frame rate it’s not very accessible. Porting the game over to console would mean the game was available to a wider audience.

We discussed that if the game ships with a PC stuff pack the game is very likely to be very similar to the PC version, this means that the developers have learnt from their mistakes, seeing as The Sims 3 on consoles was heavily criticised for being very watered down.

Krista – As someone who loves the console versions of The Sims as well as the PC versions I’m really looking forward to this. Not only that I think it will reach a much bigger audience as well as bring in new fans to the franchise as well.

Whatever happens we honestly think this is a fantastic step forward, EA have enough faith in the game to bring it to two new platforms, we can’t wait to find out more information about the game. Let us know what you think of the news in the comments.
