What to Expect in The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack

0

The Sims 4 For Rent is almost here! Members of the EA Creator Network have already had the opportunity to play the pack in early access but the latest expansion pack for The Sims 4 will be available to everyone this Thursday, December 7th, 2023.

Find out everything we know about The Sims 4 For Rent so far!

The Sims 4 For Rent

There’s been a lot of coverage and news coming directly from the developers regarding this pack so we thought it’d be a good idea to take all of the information that’s been confirmed so far and condense it for you in nice, organized sections. We’ll break down everything players can expect about property management, building Residential Rentals, and other gameplay features.

The Sims 4 For Rent: Everything We Know So Far

Let’s dive right into every part of The Sims 4 For Rent that’s been confirmed so far! Remember, the developers always keep some things a surprise for players to discover on their own, so we’re sure there will be even more to explore than what’s been shown on Thursday!

The World of Tomarang

Tomarang World map
From the Official Livestream

Tomarang (pronounced TOM-A-RONG) is the brand new world shipping with The Sims 4 For Rent. It is inspired by Southeast Asia and contains heaps and heaps of lore, activities, and surprises to discover, some of which we already know about!

For example, Tomarang is a full size residential world with 2 neighbourhoods and a total of 10 lots, 5 in each neighbourhood. If that doesn’t sound like a lot of space to work with, remember that you could potentially have up to 60 residential homes in Tomarang if you were to replace every lot with a 6-unit Residential Rental. That’s potentially up to 480 Sims living in Tomarang if you were so inclined to set up this world in that way.

Tomarang Neighbourhood

Tomarang has a lot of common space outside of lots, too! The urban area of Tomarang, called Morensong, contains a park with hopscotch for kids to play on, as well as a botanical garden which is in fact on a lot so you can customize it! The more rural neighbourhood of Koh Sahpa contains a tiger sanctuary that Sims can visit! The tiger sanctuary is a rabbithole but you will get story pop-ups about what your Sims are getting up to inside. Visiting the tigers both during the day and at night (illegally) can give your Sims certain objects as rewards.

Night Market

The much-advertised night market in Tomarang is in the Morensong neighbourhood. Sims can purchase fresh fish and many brand new dishes inspired by Southeast Asian cuisine. There is also a trinket stall in the night market where you can purchase tassels, which are a new collectible! Sims who collect all the tassels can combine them to get a special reward object. Marbles are another collectible in the expansion and the jar to display them in can be purchased from the trinket stall at the night market as well.

As if that already wasn’t a lot to do and explore, there is also a huge swimming area in Tomarang. Sims who swim to the other side of it can explore a cave that also contains lots of lore and possible rewards.

Building a Residential Rental

Residential Rental apartment

While Tomarang is beautiful and a fun place to explore, the main draw of The Sims 4 For Rent is the new lot type that allows multiple households to live on one lot. The official name of the new lot type is Residential Rental, not to be confused with regular Residential lots or vacation Rental lots. Residential Rentals are their own lot type with unique functionality.

Residential Rentals are not apartments. The apartments in City Living and Eco Lifestyle are not customizable on the outside. Players can only decorate and make modifications to the indoor space. Residential Rentals can be built from the ground up just like any other residential property in the game. This gives players the freedom to use the Residential Rental functionality for duplexes, attached town homes, condominiums, homes with rental rooms, university dorms, and many other different types of living arrangements with multiple households.

Separate Units

Once you’ve built your Residential Rental in The Sims 4 For Rent, splitting up the living space is as easy as clicking on a room and assigning it to a unit! You can designate shared spaces in a Residential Rental, too, so you can provide amenities for all the residents living there, like pools, gyms, recreation rooms, and anything else you want.

In Live Mode, you won’t be able to see what’s inside other units being rented by different households. Visiting your neighbour’s unit will require you to go through a load screen; however, there is a new quick-travel feature to eliminate cumbersome menus when traveling to other units. You can now just click on any residence in a neighbourhood and choose to travel there. This feature will be coming to the base game as well.

Designate shared spaces

Don’t worry; you’ll still get a chance to see your neighbours without load screens, especially if there are shared spaces in the building. The other residents will periodically exit their units to use the objects in the shared spaces, so if you want to skip the load screens, you can catch up with them there.

Although the game does give you suggestions for what objects make a good rental unit with a higher rating, you are not obligated to follow those guidelines. You can include or omit whatever you want from individual units.

You can build a Residential Rental almost anywhere you want, not just in Tomarang. You can also easily switch a Residential lot to a Residential Rental in Build Mode. The only places you cannot build Residential Rental properties in The Sims 4 For Rent is Sulani waterfront properties, vacation worlds, and San Myshuno penthouse lots.

Managing Tenants

Dealing with Tenants

There’s a lot that goes into managing a Residential Rental in The Sims 4 For Rent. Property owners can choose to live in a unit alongside their tenants or they can live elsewhere and manage the property from a distance.

When filling vacant units in The Sims 4 For Rent, players can click on the new For Rent sign to bring up the current tenant agreement. This is where they can set the rent for all units, the length of the lease on units, and set any rules for tenants to abide by. You can instate rules such as no noise after 10pm, no social events, no ghosts, or put a cap on how many people can live in each unit. If Cats and Dogs is installed, you can also have a no pets rule.

Tenant Agreement

Click on a vacant unit you’d like to fill which will bring up a selection of potential tenants and their info. You can see how many Sims are in the household and what age groups they all are, how many beds they need, and how much they’re willing to pay in rent. You can use all this information to select the best tenants for the units you have.

Evict Sims for being late on rent

Of course, not every tenant will follow the rules. You may find that some tenants blatantly disregard the rules you’ve put in place, or they are consistently late on rent payments. If this happens, you can evict them and get better tenants. You can also give struggling Sims a break and offer them second chances, though. They could appreciate your kindness and turn things around! While you can evict Sims for no reason at all, doing so without a valid reason is an unjust eviction and there will be negative consequences for your Sims for unjustly evicting a tenant.

Building Maintenance

Building mishaps

Owning a rental property in The Sims 4 For Rent isn’t just about filling up units and sitting on your butt waiting for rent money to roll in. Buildings require maintenance and as the landlord, it’s your responsibility to handle things like broken appliances and mould infestations.

Tenants will periodically contact you requesting help with a problem in their unit. Their water heater could be leaking, the AC unit might be broken, or they could have a mould or electrical problem. You have the option to handle it quickly by hiring either a cheap or an expensive contractor. You can also try to fix the problem yourself. If you choose to fix it yourself, you’ll begin an event at the tenant’s unit and you’ll have to complete the goals during the event to fix up the unit to the tenant’s satisfaction.

Maintain rental properties

You can make life extra difficult by applying some building-related lot challenges to a unit. Yep! Lot challenges on Residential Rentals are per unit, not for the whole building. There are also lot challenges to add the building maintenance functionality to regular residential homes if you want this gameplay in a regular Residential, too.

More Gameplay

New Elder trait: Wise

Of course, most of The Sims 4 For Rent’s gameplay revolves around owning and managing rental properties but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing else to this pack! The Sims 4 For Rent also comes with 5 new traits, including one Elder-specific trait called Wise. The Wise trait can be acquired in gameplay from aging up. Sims with certain traits like Genius are more likely to gain the Wise trait when they become Elders. The other 4 traits are Cringe, Generous, Child of the Village, and Nosy.

The Sims 4 For Rent also comes with four new aspirations, each focused on a different aspect of the pack. Fount of Tomarani Knowledge is a Location aspiration. Seeker of Secrets is a Deviance aspiration. Discerning Dweller is a Popularity aspiration, and Five Star Property Owner is a Fortune aspiration.

Rice cooker countertop appliance

There are two new appliances that come in The Sims 4 For Rent; a rice cooker, and a kettle which Sims can use to boil water for either coffee or tea! Sims will also now be able to boil water for their tea in the microwave. Y’know… if you’re uncivilized like that

Kettle countertop appliance

One not-so-wholesome activity Sims can partake in in The Sims 4 For Rent is snooping on their neighbours. There are lots of secrets to uncover about people in The Sims 4 For Rent and Nosy Sims will be particularly good at sniffing them out. Sims can spy on other Sims in public places or even break into their neighbour’s homes when they aren’t around to go snooping through their stuff! If Kleptomaniac Sims break into a home, they can also swipe stuff while they’re there.

Breaking and entering

Breaking and entering is a timed event so if you’re going to go breaking into people’s homes, you’d better make sure you’re gone before the timer runs out. If you’re not, you could get caught! The effort and risk could be worth it if you uncover a juicy secret, however. Once your Sim has uncovered a secret about another Sim, they can use it to blackmail them. You can break into any residential lot, not just residential rentals.

Death by Mould

Oh, and did we mention there’s new dances and a new mould-related death type, too? Don’t worry; mould deaths are optional.

We can’t wait to dive into everything The Sims 4 For Rent has to offer later this week! And if you missed the developer livestream, you can catch up right here!

Latest Update Causes Chaos for Sims 4 Mods

The December 5th Sims 4 update was one of the largest updates we’ve seen ahead of a new pack launch. This patch in particular was delivered to players in two parts but contained a number of bug fixes and some new Base Game content.

While we know that using the Sims 4 Mods means players who are on PC or Mac will have to ensure they follow the correct updating process when a new patch is released, sometimes mods will break. It’s one of those things, that can happen. However, sometimes a new Sims 4 update can break mods completely and while it is rare, it does happen.

Sims 4 Update, Sims 4 Mods

The Sims 4 Update

What did the update do to the Sims 4 Mods?

To put it simply, the latest patch has caused a number of issues for many script mods. This has resulted in many being unusable while Mod Creators work on updating the mods and testing them with the latest version of the game before releasing them to the public.

While many Sims 4 Mods creators expected this latest patch to break mods, it’s clear it broke a lot more than first thoughts.

What are the Sims 4 Mods Creators Saying?

A number of mod creators have taken to their social media platforms to share their initial Sims 4 Mods status updates and general thoughts.

TwistedMexi, the creator behind mods like Better Exceptions, T.O.O.L and Better Build Buy too to X (formerly Twitter) to share several updates regarding their own mods.

With the first of several mods being tested, TwistedMexi went on to add that this patch had a significant impact on mods overall.

Meanwhile, MC Command Centre creator Deaderpool, shared on Patreon an update regarding the impact this latest patch has had.

Likewise, the same message was also echoed on their Discord Server with members being kindly reminded that the team will be working hard on ensuring the highly popular mod is updated and ready as soon as possible.

Lumpinou previously shared ahead of the 5th December 2023 Sims 4 Update that it was likely that mods would break and to be mindful that testing and updating mods will take time with announcements to follow as soon as possible.

Since sharing this post earlier today, Lumpinou has shared an additional update on their Patreon. You can read this update in full here.

LilMsSam also took to X to share an update regarding their mods stating that she will be doing their best to check and update mods as soon as possible but due to a recent injury. Due to this, updates to their mods may take longer although a small first wave of updates has been released.

The Sims Community Team wish you a speedy recovery!

Frankk who is the creator of the Language Barriers mod was also impacted by the latest Sims 4 Update but their smaller mods seem to be working okay currently. Again, an update is on the way for the Language Barriers mod!

Zebru also shared an update stating that they will be checking and testing their Sims 4 Mods following this Sims 4 update. They also shared how they would be taking a look at the game code to try and find some answers to some of the burning questions players have about The Sims 4 For Rent!

How to Keep Up to Date?

Are you wondering what the easiest way is to keep up to date with all your favourite mods? If you are on Discord, the Deaderpool Discord Server has a wonderful feed under their Mods News Channel that you can follow. It can also be found linked on the Sims Community Discord under the Mods and CC News Channel.

Alternatively, you can check out Luth’s Mods & CC Updates post over on the EA Answers HQ. Again this is an excellent detailed list players can use to keep up to date. This is also the same post that was previously found on The Sims official forums but made the move to the EA Answers HQ recently.

Are you new to modding in The Sims 4 and aren’t sure what the correct process is when it comes to patch day? We’ve got you covered with this handy walkthrough right here.

A Kind Request

While players know that using the Sims 4 Mods and custom content in their game will mean ensuring they are updated when there is a new patch, we all understand it can also be frustrating at times. However, it’s important to keep in mind that as soon as a new the Sims 4 Update is released, modders will be doing their utmost to get their mods checked, tested and updated as quickly as possible! So please, over the next few days be kind and courteous towards mod creators, they will ensure they share updates on our favourite mods as soon as they are available!

Sims 4 Console Bug Warning

Second Sims 4 Patch is out now!

There’s another Sims 4 Update released right now! That’s right, a second update for The Sims 4 has been depleted just an hour after the first one. If you haven’t downloaded the first update then don’t worry, you’ll only have to download one version – the latest one!

I’ve compared the sizes of each Sims 4 Update on my Mac. The first Update was around 1GB, while the second one was at 450MB. These sizes vary depending on your platform and have only been mentioned as a unit measurement of how many changes have been made behind the scenes.

We still don’t know exactly why there have been two updates for the game. However, we’ll keep you posted if anything surfaced beside the highly expected Patch notes…

Sul Sul Simmers!

The newest expansion pack has been freely living in all our heads and For Rent is finally due! The Property Owner is coming to visit in just a few days, but in the meantime there’s a couple of Base Game additions and a bevy of fixes to call out and share. Our favorite SimGuruNova is going to go into details below. Thanks all!

-SimGuruNinja

What’s New?

  • Sink Assignments – The jig is up for Sims who had a penchant for shoving Harvestfest turkey bones down the drains of those poor, poor bathroom sinks. Starting today, all sinks can now be designated as Kitchen or Bathroom sinks.

The assignment you choose determines whether hands or dishes are autonomously washed in them. Unless, of course, you live for the chaos and assign the wrong labels to each sink. We won’t stop you from letting your Sims continue to be little freaks!

  • Switch Control to This Household
Switch Control to this Household Option Feature

Listen, as much as we love the Manage Worlds screen, every healthy relationship requires a bit of space. So, we’ve declared a bit of independence from Manage Worlds, giving you the chance to switch your active household from Live mode directly with the “Switch Control to This Household” interaction! While we added this as a means to switch between units of your Residential Rental more seamlessly, this interaction will be available on the front door of all occupied residences, not just Residential Rental units. Rejoice with me, my fellow rotational gameplay Simmers!

  • Base Game Additions That’ll Knock Your Shoes Off

In celebration of the release of For Rent, we have a few housewarming goodies coming to the Base Game. Along with a cozy new outfit that’ll have your Sims lounging in style, Sims can now interact with the Men’s Shoe Rack and Women’s Shoe Rack items from Base Game to set rules for the house determining whether or not shoes are removed at the door. Which means everyone will know whether or not your Sim is wearing socks under those sneakers (please, for my sanity, make sure they are!)

New The Sims 4 Update: Footwear Rules

Bug Fixes

Base Game / Multipack

  • Quick Meal interactions on fridges have been renamed to “Quick Meal or Drink” and “Microwaved Quick Meal or Drink”. Gone are the days of “Glass of Milk” erasure!
  • Sims who finish their drinks while also eating will now make sure to finish their meal afterward. That’s right, Mrs. Landgraab, chugging your Juice on the Rocks doesn’t count as “girl dinner”.
  • Child Sims with the Genius trait will no longer gain the Want to Solve Hard Problems, They’ll have to wait a few years before diving into such complex abstraction.
  • Sims with a Fear of Fire will no longer be tormented by constant, unavoidable fires starting while they are cooking.
  • On a somewhat related note, Sims will no longer be given the option to Cook Together on broken stoves.
  • In an attempt to curtail unwarranted surreal horror gameplay, household members should no longer randomly be labeled as neighbors and become unable to use doors.
  • In the spirit of respecting the laws of physics, towels hung on the wall are no longer translucent when hit with natural light.
  • Though they are things of beauty, certain columns will now, indeed, fade away… when they would otherwise be blocking the camera in Live Mode.
  • Sims will no longer be constantly using their phones at every hour of the day. Not a cell phone in sight, just simulated people living in the moment. Beautiful.
  • Hairy houseguests deciding to shave in your Sim’s bathroom will no longer cause the game to freeze.
  • Sims should now actually be able to finish writing songs. Perhaps those of us with closets full of unfinished projects should take notes.
  • Child Sims will now only have age-appropriate thought bubbles.
  • After plenty of confidence building exercises, certain table lamps will no longer snap to the wall when placed and will be comfortable standing wherever you place them.
  • Infants who age up in a dirty diaper will no longer produce stink clouds as if forced to wear that dirty diaper into adulthood (Rest assured, I hated writing that just as much as you hated reading it).
  • Sims will thankfully no longer slip and fall in mud puddles while holding an infant.
  • Adjusted frequency of body hair on randomized Sims to be slightly less excessive.
  • Some of the less friendly toddler and infant hairs have been taught proper conflict resolution and will now play nicely with hats.
  • Sims living on Private Dwelling lots are now willing to make exceptions for food deliveries. Because everyone loves a good pizza, even territorial curmudgeons.
  • Basement stairs should now play nicely with terrain when the lot has a raised foundation.
  • Changing foundation height should no longer stop windows from being placed on curved walls.
  • Sims have learned what it means to be that guy and will no longer constantly ask “What Happened?” for no apparent reason during conversations.
  • Sims who would invite themselves over and make themselves a little too welcome have relearned their manners and should now knock.
  • Much to the disappointment of illusionists everywhere, glass walls over basements should no longer hide basement walls when viewed from above.
  • We’ve educated Sims on the dangers of over-caffeination, so autonomous coffee making/drinking should happen a bit less frequently.
  • Blonde gardeners and redhead pizza deliverers everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief, because parents with graying hair swatches are now more likely to have children that match their base hair color, rather than unexpected red or blonde hair.
  • When loading back into a save and entering Manage Worlds, there’s no longer a chance that occupied lots appear empty.
  • A previously unnamed PooHoo bush has now discovered its true name.

Console

  • Hitting the Undo button on the controller no longer pulls up the search bar in Build Mode.

Kits

  • The nails from Poolside Splash are now tagged for both masculine and feminine frame Sims.
  • As fun as it was, Sims should no longer grow a second pair of feet when wearing the retro bikini from Poolside Splash.

Laundry Day

  • Hampers can now be dragged in and out of Sim inventories in Live Mode. The excuses for putting off laundry end here!
  • Dirty cloth diapers will now go into laundry hampers, where they belong, rather than the floor, where they do not belong.

Dream Home Decorator

  • The Standard Gas Oven by Blazin’ Ladles no longer disappears when placed on lots. May your ladles remain ever ablaze…

My Wedding Stories

  • Certain veils should no longer force Sims to have red hair (seriously, what is it with this update and red hair?)

Werewolves

  • Werewolves will no longer autonomously Check On infants during their rampage. And thank goodness for that.

Seasons

  • Plants no longer revert to dirt piles in dormant phases, and instead will simply stop growing. They should also now only become dormant when entering their off seasons, at the appropriate time.

Get Famous

  • Sims who have chosen to forgo the spotlight will no longer gain unwanted fame.

Cottage Living

  • Sims will now retain the Heroic Haggler buff when buying discounted items at village shops after haggling. Let them enjoy their Karen moment!
  • Your Sims will no longer be doomed to a life of Sisyphean crafting endeavors. They should now be able to complete the task to create a Cross-Stitch for the Taste for Adventure errand.

High School Years

  • The pink swatch of the Benchmark Seating chair is no longer masquerading as blue in the preview.
  • Teens who get more than 250 Social Bunny followers should now be able to complete the third level Admired Icon aspiration.

Growing Together

  • Playing other households will no longer cause Sims to forget certain achieved Milestones. In other words, the game will neither gaslight nor gatekeep your girlboss Sims anymore.
  • We gave that creepy tree in San Sequoia a stern warning. It should no longer be encroaching upon the buildable area of the Sequoia Cottage lot.
  • Sims will no longer earn the First Promotion milestone when getting a new job, no matter how much your Sim is willing to be annoying and debate the semantics of that.
  • Toddlers should now be able to Sing a Song with infants without being interrupted.

Horse Ranch

  • Your adorable little money laundering scheme has yee’d its last haw! Sims will no longer receive double the stated number of Simoleons for selling mini goats and sheep.
  • Sims riding horses should now have an easier time saying howdy (and other things) to other horses nearby.
  • Sims will no longer be taunted by an unreachable log filled with frogs in Chestnut Ridge.
  • The era of heavy metal square dancing has waned. Sims will now only autonomously perform Cowpoke Dance if Ranch music is playing.

For Rent

  • Fixed an issue where rent could go into negatives or be excessively high.

0

When the news regarding The Plum Tree App was shared with the community, players not only felt sad to see the popular app would be closing down shortly but many also wondered what would happen with their Sims 4 Family Trees.

For many players, especially those who play with multiple families and numerous generations The Plum Tree app has been an excellent companion for documenting their families. While there are some alternatives out there that players could move their Sims 4 Family Trees to. there wasn’t anything quite tailored to The Sims experience.

However, that’s all about to change with the launch of the Sims Legacy Hub!

Who is Behind The Sims Legacy Hub?

In light of the upcoming closure of The Plum Tree App, avid The Sims players TheAwfulGaymer and PacificCreative alongside developer DevPacific knew they could put their skills and knowledge to create what is going to be Sims Legacy Hub. Knowing how important Sims 4 Family Trees are to players, they identified a way they could support the community when the current app closes.

What is Sims Legacy Hub?

Sims Legacy Hub is essentially a new, upcoming way that players can document their Sims 4 Family Trees. With a way that you can track your families for three or more generations, an easy-to-navigate free-flow design to fully customize your Sims 4 Family Tree experience. Additionally, you’ll be able to easily upload both screenshots and photos as well as an easy-to-access navigation menu. The Sims 4 Story Starter Kit: Unraveled Success

Welcome to our twenty-first official The Sims 4 Story Starter Kit! If you missed all the info on The Sims 4 Story Starter Kits, you can read more about what they are and how they work in our introductory article!

Two successful parents. One misunderstood teen. A recipe for unraveling.

For this month’s The Sims 4 Story Starter Kit, we’re bringing you a well-educated, successful middle-aged couple and their withdrawn, moody son. Both are pressuring him to pursue higher education after high school and follow in their footsteps, but Curtis just wants the freedom to create and forge his own path.

The Sims 4 Story Starter Kit: Unraveled Success

Sims 4 Story Starter Kit

Rosa and Ross met while studying at Foxbury Institute. They’re the epitome of that couple that did everything exactly right in exactly the right order. They studied hard in high school, got good grades, and went to a prestigious university. They dated through university, prioritizing their studies and got married after graduation. Then they spent several years building their careers and their savings before planning to grow their family. That’s when their son, Curtis, came into the picture!

As highly educated, successful people, Rosa and Ross placed a lot of expectations on their only child. They always encouraged him to study hard and get good grades so he could get into a good university like they did. They even settled in Britechester before Curtis was born to ensure he’d have access to the finest post-secondary education possible. They took every measure to make sure their child grew up to be as successful as them one day.

But Ross and Rosa quickly learned that children are not always carbon copies of their parents. Sometimes, they have their own personalities and interests that diverge greatly from what their parents expected of them. And sometimes, they aren’t good at the things their parents are good at. Curtis was not the bright academic that Ross and Rosa imagined he would be when he was born. He struggled in most subjects at school except art, where his teachers always praised him for his skill in fibre arts, in particular.

Rosa and Ross weren’t against their son having hobbies, but that’s all they saw his artistic talent as; a silly little hobby. Not a future career. When Curtis developed a passion for knitting and expressed to his parents that he was considering starting a Plopsy shop to sell the clothes he knits instead of going to university, it felt like all of Ross and Rosa’s hopes and dreams for their only child were falling apart at their feet. Where had they gone so hopelessly wrong with their little boy?!

Ross and Rosa had different methods of persuading their son to see sense (in their eyes). Ross took the “You’re going to university whether you like it or not, even if I have to drag you there kicking and screaming!” route. As one might expect, it was not very effective. His distressed mother tried a softer approach; she actually understood where Curtis was coming from because she herself had been in his shoes at one point.

She sat him down and explained to him that majoring in Psychology and becoming a university professor was not her first choice for her life. It was always her dream to be a novelist but her parents refused to allow her to study literature. They said it was a waste of time. Ultimately, her parents convinced her to give up on her ridiculous notions of being a writer and pursue a more steady, respectable career in education.

At the time, she was heartbroken and angry with her parents but now, she’s glad she listened to them. She has a good job, financial stability, a nice house, and a beautiful family, none of which was guaranteed if she had chased her dream.

But his mother’s personal story didn’t make Curtis agree with his mother. He just felt sorry for her and told her as much. She of all people should be on his side if she understood how he was feeling like she claimed! It only made him more hurt and angry that someone who had every reason to empathize with him was still trying to make him miserable, instead.

The conflict over Curtis’ future has gotten so unbearable that Ross is considering sending his son to a boot camp to straighten him out. Rosa’s been talking about sending him to live with her parents for a while. If they could make her see sense, surely they could do the same for their grandson.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to his parents, Curtis has been saving up money from his Plopsy shop to run away. No one’s going to be in charge of his destiny but him! If he has to sneak away from the life he knows to claim that freedom, then so be it.

But maybe it’s not too late to prevent all of this? Is there some kind of compromise that can be made so everyone is happy? Or will someone have to give in to demands? And which one will it be?

World

World Map - Tomarang
  • Residential Rentals differ from apartments in The Sims 4 For Rent. They are more versatile than apartment buildings. Players can build any kind of multi-family dwelling they want from the ground up to create duplexes, homes split up into rental rooms, and more.
  • Easily switch a Residential lot to a Residential Rental lot. Click on a room to designate it as part of a private unit or a shared space.
  • Set lot challenges individually per unit.
  • When you are building a Residential Rental in The Sims 4 For Rent, there will be suggestions for what makes a good rental unit with a high rating but you are not required to follow those guidelines. You have the freedom to include or omit whatever you want from a unit.
World Menu
  • Residential Rentals can have a maximum of 6 units, but there is a cheat that will allow players to build more units if they want to. Keep in mind that the developers still recommend 6 units per lot for the best performance.
  • There is a global cap on how many units you can have per save in The Sims 4 For Rent. The limit is 100 units across your whole save.
  • You can build Residential Rentals in any residential world you want, on almost any lot you want. The exceptions to this are Sulani waterfront lots and non-livable lots.
  • If you get confused when assigning separate units and want to just start over, there’s a button to assign all rooms to one unit. Then you can redo your layout as you please.
Tomarang Location
  • Tomarang is a full-size residential world in The Sims 4 For Rent with two neighbourhoods; Morensong which is the town centre and Koh Sahpa, which is more rural and relaxed.
  • There’s a big beautiful park in the middle of Tomarang with playground equipment, hopscotch, and marbles. This neighbourhood also has a botanical garden, a fish market, and plenty of vendor stands in the night market.
  • There is a rabbithole tiger sanctuary in The Sims 4 For Rent. Sims can visit the sanctuary or donate to it to receive cool items. The sanctuary has a lot of lore and some reward items you can get from visiting both at night and during the day. If you sneak in after hours, you can get banned from the tiger sanctuary.
  • There is a very large swimming area in open waters in Tomarang. The swimming area leads to a cave that also has a lot of lore hidden within it.

Live Mode

Tenant Agreement Menu
  • In Live Mode, if you designate a shared space in a Residential Rental, you will see Sims living in other units leave their units to use the objects in the shared space. This is a good way to make sure Sims can spend time with their neighbours.
  • While playing within a unit in Live Mode, you will not be able to see inside any of the other units. If you want to go visit a Sim living in a different unit, you will need to go through a load screen to access that unit.
  • To make this less cumbersome, there is now a quick Play This Household interaction on units so you don’t need to go through any menus to visit another unit; just the one load screen. This feature is being added to the base game as well, it’s not exclusive to The Sims 4 For Rent.
Vacancy Applications
  • Sims who own a Residential Rental can decide how much rent they want to charge per day and be able to see their rating as well as unit rules and any tenants currently there.
  • You are incentivized to make your rental units nice for your tenants in The Sims 4 For Rent. It will result in a better rating and happier tenants, but you can play the role of an evil, greedy landlord if you want to.
  • When filling a vacancy, you’ll get to choose from a list of potential tenants. You’ll be able to see how many Sims are part of that household and their ages, how many beds they need, and how much they are willing to pay in rent.
  • You can evict Sims in The Sims 4 For Rent but if you do so unjustly, there are negative consequences to mistreating your tenants like that.
  • New Collection: Tassels. Once you’ve collected all the tassels, you can combine them to create a new item. The tassels also come with their own lore. There is also a marbles collection with a jar to store them in.
Tiger Sanctuary
  • Cringe Sims can Spout Memes at other Sims and Nosy Sims can spy on other Sims. They will pull out a pair of binoculars when they do.
  • You can break into your neighbours’ units and snoop around in their personal things to dig up information about them in The Sims 4 For Rent. You can break into any residential lot, not just residential rentals! Once a Sim has a secret about their neighbours, you can use those secrets to blackmail them.
  • Breaking and entering is a timed event and if your Sim does not leave the residence before the timer runs out, they could get caught!
  • While Sims won’t be able to be burglars in The Sims 4 For Rent, some Sims may be able to swipe an item or two while breaking into a home if they have the Kleptomaniac trait.
Discover Secrets About Neighbours
  • The kettle can boil hot water for either tea or coffee.
  • The rice cooker can be set and then left for super easy, low maintenance cooking!
  • To have mould on a lot, you need to assign the Mould Lot Challenge on it and neglect the maintenance of the lot. Mould has to be managed and cleaned up regularly in order to avoid possible death! The mould Lot Challenge can be applied to any lot.
  • There is an option to add the Maintenance Troubles Lot Challenge to regular Residential lots if you want that gameplay in a normal home. This lot challenge is not available for Residential Rentals because maintenance is already part of managing a rental.
  • When things go wrong in a Residential Rental, you can hire a cheap contractor, an expensive contractor, or try to handle the problem yourself. There is also a haunting event and your Sims can exorcize the ghosts terrorizing tenants in The Sims 4 For Rent.

CAS

CAS Assets
  • Traditional and updated traditional Southeast Asian fashion.
  • Lots of hot weather attire for the warm, balmy climate.

As detailed in the Sims 4 Laundry List, these topics currently have fixes and those not listed are still having fixes worked on.

Please note that some topics can be tricky and may require an extended investigation on our end, so even though we are actively reviewing, it’s not a guarantee that we’ll have an immediate fix in the upcoming patch.

Here’s the list of the community concerns we’re investigating and aiming to resolve in the game update this month:

Thank you for all your patience and valuable help in reporting!

Please continue sharing with us any issues you’re experiencing on Answers HQ.

Keep reading to find out more about when to expect the next The Sims 4 Update and how to report any bugs/issues you may be experiencing!

When is the next The Sims 4 Update?

For Rent is the final release from the most recent roadmap for The Sims 4. It is also the final of three expansion packs for 2023! Pre-pack release patches tend to be slightly larger in size as they bring not only bug fixes but it can also deliver new Base Game features in internal coding that prepares the game ready for the expansion pack.

Based upon the previous The Sims 4 Laundry Lists, we should expect to see the next The Sims 4 Base Game update in the near future. The last few Laundry Lists have seen game updates released around seven days after publication. However, this is based on the release windows we’ve seen in the past, and this may vary for this next patch.

This is the first release since The Sims 4 Home Chef Hustle Stuff Pack, this is going to be the pre-expansion update but will also include a number of bug fixes too. We will likely see this next Sims 4 Update on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023.

When and Where to Watch

The Sims 4 For Rent deep dive developer livestream is scheduled to start streaming on The Sims’ YouTube channel at 11am PT / 2pm ET on December 1st, 2023.

As always, Sims Community will be here to cover everything revealed during the deep dive so if you do miss it, make sure to catch the recap and news articles right here on our website!

What To Expect

Of course, The Sims Team probably has some surprises up their sleeve for this deep dive; they usually do, but we do have a pretty good idea of the main talking points scheduled to be covered during the livestream.

Tomarang World Details

Tomarang Sims 4 World

Like any pack that comes with a new world, we are almost definitely going to get a good look at the new world of Tomarang that’s coming with The Sims 4 For Rent expansion pack. This world has been revealed to be inspired by Southeast Asia and we’re looking forward to seeing everything this lush world has to offer players!

Property Management Gameplay

Property Management

The main draw of The Sims 4 For Rent is the ability to own and manage multiple rental properties so we’re sure there’s bound to be a detailed breakdown of how that all works. From setting rent prices to tackling building maintenance issues or even evicting Sims that refuse to follow the rules and pay their rent on time, we’ll likely get an up close and personal look at exactly how all of that functions in the game.

We also hope we’ll get to see how multiple families will live in separate units on one playable lot while sharing shared spaces in The Sims 4 For Rent expansion.

Build/Buy and CAS

For Rent Build/Buy and CAS

We’re not sure exactly how much of Build/Buy and CAS we’re going to see. Sometimes the developers spend quite a while going through all the BB and CAS options and showcasing every swatch. Other times, they focus almost exclusively on gameplay and just give players a quick glance at the BB and CAS catalogues coming with a new pack.

We’ll have to wait and see but hopefully we’ll get at least a good peek at some of the new clothing, accessories, and objects coming with The Sims 4 For Rent expansion pack. Many players only play The Sims 4 to build and create Sims, rarely if ever touching any of a pack’s gameplay. These players will surely be happy to get a deep dive into CAS and Build/Buy that’s equally as immersive as any gameplay coverage we get to see.

On the official website, The Sims Blog published a written Q&A session with the developers of The Sims 4 For Rent expansion pack, releasing in early December. Simmers had a lot of questions regarding how traveling between units will work and which life stages are able to enjoy certain activities shown in the reveal trailer, such as hopscotch and marbles.

New Lot Type

How many units can be contained within a residential rental?

  • 6 Units can be made in a Residential Rental
    • Are there cheats to change this cap?
      • Yes! bb.increaserentalunitcap on/off
  • There is a max of 99 Units per Save.

How many Sims can live in each unit?

  • A full Sim household of 8 Sims can live in a Unit.

Are there loading screens when I want to visit another unit on the residential rental lot?

  • Yes, there will be loading screens between units, but sims from other units will use objects in the shared spaces.

How can I easily swap between household units to play? Do I have to go to manage worlds?

  • You can access units through manage worlds as always, but we have also added a new “Switch to Household” interaction on doors of the active residential lot so you can switch to other units more easily.

Can I build high-rises like in City Living?

  • You will still be limited to the existing build mode rules including number of floors and wall heights.

Where can’t I build Residential Rentals?

  • Sulani Waterfront Lot
  • Penthouse Lots
  • Vacation Worlds and Hidden Lots (Jungle Adventure, Batuu, Outdoor Retreat)

Can I change apartments from City Living or Eco Lifestyle to the new Residential Rentals?

  • Residential Rentals are brand new Lot Type with all new gameplay offered in For Rent. Existing apartments in City Living or Eco Lifestyle remain unique and separate from these new Residential Rental lot type, although Residential Rentals can be placed in lots from these worlds to add even more dimension and variety.

Can I build a Residential Rental on a Penthouse lot from City Living?

  • Penthouses are special lots that will not work with this venue type. Penthouses and their functionality will remain unchanged with the addition of For Rent.

Do new Residential Rental events happen on apartment lots?

  • We have added Maintenance Troubles as a new Lot Challenge that can be placed on any other Residential lots. The new Maintenance Events, though, can only happen on Residential Rentals by default.

Property Management

Can I own any other businesses with this pack?

  • You will still be able to own businesses from other packs as well as be a Property Owner for Residential Rental Lots! We do not have any new businesses added with this pack.

Do the water heater, ac units include gameplay? Do they work on lots other than Residential Rentals?

  • Yes there is gameplay associated with the Water Heater, Electrical Panel, AC unit, and the Radiators. Some of these will have additional gameplay when used in conjunction with Seasons.
  • These will work for all Residential lots, but when used in Residential Rental lots they will work for the individual units if placed inside them or for all units if placed in shared spaces.

Can a unit on a Residential Rental be a business venue/lot type?

  • Residential Rentals, a business in and of themselves, cannot be combined with other businesses.

Does mold cause Sims to become zombies?

  • Mold gameplay and associated deaths are very opt-in and easily avoidable. No Zombie outbreaks are attached to this new death type and ghost.

Closer than Ever

Will sims Snoop by themselves (autonomously)?

  • If Sims have the Nosy trait they will observe other Sims, but will not find out any secrets.

Are Snooping Sims Burglars? Will Burglar music play?

  • The iconic Sim burglar experience intrudes our thoughts for another day. Snooping and secrets are subtly different, although can be combined with Kleptomanic Trait for some fun and interesting active gameplay.

  • 2 neighborhoods. 9 lots.
    • 2 20×15
    • 3 20×20
    • 2 30×20

  • Yes, these are available for all lots, not just Residential Rentals.

  • Marbles is Child specific, but collecting Marbles is available even after you’ve become an adult.
  • Hopscotch was designed for Child Sims, but can be used by Teens and Up as well.

How do you feel about the details of The Sims 4 For Rent?

Sim thinking

The Sims 4 For Rent developer Q&A comes with both exciting and disappointing info, which… has come to be expected of nearly every single pack release, The Sims 4 For Rent being no exception.

While the possibilities of having up to 48 Sims (or more with cheats!) living on one lot is exciting, certain details like the animal sanctuary being a rabbithole, the boat featured very prominently in the reveal being just world décor, and not being able to build Residential Rentals on waterfront lots will no doubt come as a disappointment to many.

Starting the Quest

always on the move

If you don’t have the Always On the Move Sims 4 discovery quests currently, you’ll have to trigger it through gameplay. Since discovery quests are new, we’re still figuring out the finer details about how to trigger them but after running a few tests, it seems like you have a good chance of triggering a discovery quest if you do things related to that discovery quest. For Always On the Move, that means traveling. In our case, we received an offer to start this quest shortly after returning home from a community lot.

Sims 4 discovery quests offers will come in the form of a phone notification in the bottom left of your screen. You can choose to reject the quest, accept it, or save it for a later time.

Completing the Quest Goals

Once you’ve accepted this Sims 4 discovery quests, you’ll have a series of goals to complete in the top left corner of your screen. You can complete these as quickly or as leisurely as you want, it’s up to you. If you’re speeding your way through it, you can expect to be finished in 2-3 real world minutes, tops. The goals are very quick and easy to complete.

You can complete the goals in any order you want; however, only up to 3 goals will be displayed at a time. Completed goals will be replaced by new goals if there are more than 3 goals for a quest.

travel to a public venue
  • Travel to a Public Venue: A public venue is any lot that is not a private residence. Houses, apartments, and vacation rentals are all private residences but things like bars, nightclubs, museums, and parks are all public venues. Hit the M key on PC/Mac to go to the world map and select any of these venues to travel to. On console, move your cursor to the map icon in the top right corner of your screen in Live Mode and select it. The map icon is a grid of squares with a map marker on it. Then select any public venue to travel to.
  • Meet 1 Sim: When you first arrive on a public lot, there likely won’t be any other Sims there. Unpause the game and give it a minute for Sims to start arriving on the lot. If playing on console or a computer with lower end specs, it may take several minutes for Sims to start populating the lot. Once some Sims show up, select any of them and under the Friendly social category, choose any of the available introduction options.
  • Socialize with Sims x2: All you have to do to complete this goal is talk to a Sim twice. It doesn’t have to be two different Sims. So keep talking to the Sim you just introduced yourself to. Most Sims respond well to socials in the Friendly > Small Talk category at the acquaintance level (unless you are playing with Growing Together installed; then some Sims might dislike Small Talk). Either way, it doesn’t matter much which socials you select. Just socialize with a Sim twice.
  • Go Home: You came, you saw, now you’re ready for bed. I respect that. You can go home the same way you left home; by going to the world map and selecting your Sim’s house. However, a faster way to return home from anywhere is just by selecting the house icon in the bottom right corner of your Sim’s portrait. Congrats on your productive day out!

Reap Your Rewards!

potion rewards

Congrats on completing the Always on the Move Sims 4 Discovery Quests! For your efforts, your Sim will receive some potions in their inventory that will help them get into specific emotions. Being in the right emotion can help facilitate relationships. Your Sim will have 2 potions in their inventory: a Flirty Potion and a Happy Potion. Drink these to put your Sim in the right mood for building both friendships and romantic relationships.

Being Flirty helps your Sim land those romantic pickup lines more easily. Being Happy helps with fostering all positive relationships, plus the Happy emotion boosts other emotions. Take the Happy potion, then the Flirty potion and your Sim can become Very Flirty thanks to the boost from the Happy potion.

Considering that each of these potions costs 100 satisfaction points in the rewards store, getting two for free isn’t a bad reward for the minimal effort it takes to complete these Sims 4 discovery quests.

Building with The Showroom CC Collection

It took some time to figure out exactly what kind of living space we wanted to create. After some trial and error with ideas, it was starting to come together. Essentially, we wanted to create a living space with a sunken area which would act as the core part of the room.

Sims 4 Custom Content

Due to the way we designed the room, we also had these two “balcony” style aspects on either side. Admittedly it was difficult to figure out how to furnish these but all things considered, they turned out okay.

The area furthest away from the room entrance was turned into another seating area along with a juke box from The Sims 4 Get Famous.

TS4 x64 2023 09 30 00 48 02 llamabees citrus preset

On the opposite side, we created a small reading nook that Sims can use and also used the coat and shoe racks on the other side of the door to complete the entrance area.

TS4 x64 2023 09 30 00 58 49 llamabees citrus preset

While it was a simple build for the most part, it did provide its own small challenges. The most difficult part was probably knowing how to fill the spaces without it being overwhelming or looking too empty. Overall, we think we didn’t do too badly!

Our Thoughts

Well, what do we think of this Sims 4 Living Room CC Set from Surely-Sims? Simply, we love it! The objects in this mini collection as well as the variety of colours and patterns showcased throughout.

The retro style is something that works so well in The Sims 4 however, there aren’t a great deal of objects in the game that allow us to fully re-create the style. This collection helps fill that gap.

The Sims 4 Get Famous and Bowling Stuff Packs are just two packs that complement The Showroom Collection perfectly and give players an excellent number of ways to create different rooms. There are objects from other packs that also work well with Surely-Sims content that also helps bring the mid-century modern/retro style to life!

Overall, as we stated, we love this mini custom content collection and we can’t wait to see more from Surely-Sims in the future!
