Patch Notes

UPDATE: 7/16/2019 – PC / Mac

Welcome Simmers! We’ve got an unconventional update for you this month, with a bold new look for The Sims, and a brand new mode within Create a Sim. You can go on reading the details of what we’ve changed, but trust me — you’ll notice the differences the moment you start your game. After you’re done exploring the new main menu, be sure to give a Create a Sim Story a try… you may just find it to be a fun way to shake up your normal playstyle!

Create a Sim Stories

Is your Simming stuck in a creative rut? Try crafting a story within Create a Sim! By starting a new household, or adding a Sim to an existing household, you can take a fun quiz to determine your Sims personality and starting conditions. By creating a story your Sims will end up starting out with a career, various skills, and different levels of starting household funds! Of course, this is just an additional option that’s now available — you’ll still be able to also create Sims the same way you always have.

New Look
The Sims 4 has a new look! Now that we’re entering the fifth year of The Sims 4, and the twentieth year of The Sims, we wanted to continue to invest in The Sims 4 so that it remains fresh and relevant for years to come. You’ll quickly spot changes like a brand new cast of Sims, new intro videos, new loading screens, new cover art, and new pack icons. The main menu has received the most significant additions; not only does it show off our new style, but you’ll discover the ability to play trailers from our most recent packs, and access quick links to The Sims on your favorite social platforms.

New Customization Options

Our new cast of Sims has some fresh new clothing and accessories to wear, and you’ll find all of their new content within Create a Sim. Check out their group shot by clicking through the art on the main menu! The base game has received new tops, bottoms, accessories, hairstyles, and a hat. Players who own certain packs will receive new swatches on some of the clothing and accessories they already own from those packs.

New Cheat

We’ve added a new cheat to the game! Open the cheat console and type in “bb.showliveeditobjects” to enable the cheat. To disable it, type “bb.showliveeditobjects false”.

Enabling the cheat will unlock a new set of objects in Build Mode to decorate your lots with… rocks, trees, bushes, signs, and all sorts of environment objects. I lost count, but I think it’s somewhere around twelve-hundred new decorative objects. These objects are environment objects, which our artists use when creating worlds. As such they are not optimized for on lot use, so please be aware when using this cheat. The most obvious issue you may notice is that Sims will walk through these objects.

The Sims 4

  • Resolved error code 134:ef7a88f2:b4565d86, which was preventing players from loading certain save files.
    • I’d explain further, but really the error code is self explanatory.
      • Ok, sorry – that was snarky. This recently introduced error occurred when attempting to load a game that was saved while one of the household Sims wasn’t currently instantiated on the active lot, and had away actions that they could perform.
  • Fixed an issue where objects were getting stuck on toddler’s hands.
  • The Sulani animation on the World Select screen will now display properly for players who do not own Island Living.
  • Within the tutorial, your friendly roommate Alex will now successfully give your Sim a job once again.
  • The main menu will now continue to display the pack art that you’ve selected until you decide to change to a different one.

  • Fixed an issue where camera controls for rotating and zoom levels were behaving inconsistently when using a trackpad.

  • Fixed an issue where Vampires were failing to route when directed to perform the Dark Meditation and Influence Emotions powers.

  • What do you mean Sims will walk through the unlocked objects ?! Haha I was so excited to be able to put cars down even just for deco but if my Sims won’t care, why should I ?! :P

  • “…we wanted to continue to invest in The Sims 4 so that it remains fresh and relevant for years to come.”

Well, if this isn’t code for “There will be no ‘The Sims 5′” I don’t know what is.

    • It’s not code for it. It makes it feel more likely.

I mean, let’s forget for a second the obvious points that Sims 4 is running out of new stuff to add, they’ve already admitting new lots and Sims will slow the game down more so there’s a finite amount they can add (which is why Get Famous had a smaller world… so it’s already starting to stifle new packs), the limitations of the Sims 4 engine, and that EA will want to start anew so they can get more money out of people who will already have all the stuff for TS4 they want.

The key thing to me is that this is a rebranding. And you don’t rebrand if your brand is doing well. There’s too many risks involved with it. You rebrand when a brand is underperforming and needs a boost of attention in the public’s eye. Which suggests that Sims 4 isn’t bringing in the kind of money EA would prefer.

Sims 4 has “years” to go, of course, because you can’t build a new game overnight. Especially if you want to do it right. Sims 4 showed what can happen if you rush it, when EA decided it was better to keep to the original schedule after changing the intended design of the game from multiplayer to singleplayer, leaving not enough time to build a proper new engine so they just had to salvage what they could (hence all the things missing at launch and some remaining issues). EA’s not going to let the brand go stagnant while waiting for TS5, so during its development they’d want to pump out more TS4 content to make more money while waiting for TS5’s launch. We’ve seen in the past that they’ll release content until right up before a new version launches.

EA might hope people are dumb enough to believe there’ll be no new game in the series, but they aren’t dumb enough to let the series die off, and considering there’s going to be a point that tacking new stuff onto TS4 isn’t feasible, that means TS5 will happen. I don’t know why people keep insisting it won’t. You might not want a new edition because you don’t want to buy stuff all over again, but hey, TS5 won’t make TS4 irrelevant, so if you like TS4, don’t buy TS5 and just stick with what you have. (Though it’s very likely TS5 will be much better, given that they won’t waste so much development on a game they shouldn’t have been trying to make.)

      • Honestly… conspiracy theory… I think this patch was intended to break people’s games and make people to want to move on faster.
The patch has made so many people’s games slow AF. I have high end gaming laptop and I went from 10-40 seconds of loading screen to 8 mins today, gameplay is worse than sims 3 lag right now. Build mode is impossible with the extreme lag.

And oh don’t forget the awful UI changing physically hurting people.

Seems like a way to push people to move on… I’m probably wrong but it makes sense lol. Make a game garbage and unplayable.. forcing people to move on.

Frankly I refuse to buy any sims game until all the current creators learn from their mistakes or get replaced with more competent people.

        Current team UGH.
Waste entire month on UI no one asked for, ignore all the awful bugs that came with island living and make a patch that breaks people’s games and or physically hurts a group of people. Awesome.

EA hire the sims 2 team back please

        • So you have a high end machine and it dont work……well I have a 3 year old basic desktop from walmary anf mine works great….so maybe its not the game. If that was the case….in theory…my desktop should blow up lol.

  • I’m not sure what’s going on but I updated my game and the new hidden objects cheat is not showing any new content.

  • Updated my game everything else is there however the new cheat for the hidden 1000+ objects shows nothing and does not work. Tried everything even followed the Livestream video. What is going on?

    • have you tried to click “new game” or adding new sims in household and found a book icon under types of sims you want to create (such as vampire, alien, etc) there?

    • You can open it on any save. Create a new family. Ignore the first sim that pops up. Click create another and you can create a sim story from there. Once you’re done with the story get rid off the first sim that popped up. Happy siming.

  • I just updated my game and only the new look seems to be there and I did have a proper look for everything else.

Also just wanted to say the blue that’s in the new loading screens makes my head hurt I don’t know if this is something other people can relate to or if it’s just me either way thought it was worth mentioning.

  • That was all of the patch notes? What about the Get famous bug? Sims who are no longer in the acting career still receive phone calls of the talent agency wanting them to chose a gig. When answering the call, just a white pop up “choose a gig” is shown on the screen

    • I was thinking the same thing. I have so many bugs in my game and the thing I’m most disappointed with is that THESE are the only fixes

  • What about that whole Sulani mystery of never arriving Sims from other worlds? That’s annoying, I had to humanise and move to Sulani my family of vampires because they couldn’t visit their daughter in Sulani.

    • I thought this only happened to me! It’s the worst. I have to call the outside people individually with the phone every time after throwing a party.

      • That didn’t work for me. Hence the move. ‘Hey dad, can you come around.’ ‘Sure I’ll be there in a few minutes.’ Never made it through several days. Neither did the rest of the family unless they happened to pass by the beach lot. What’s worse I couldn’t even summon them via MCCC. I got an info that so and so will be arriving shortly but they never had.

  • Don’t mind a bit more colour in the UI, but it really wasn’t necessary and it honestly makes the game look more messy – like a rip-off than an original Sims game. The new interface lacks contrast in the actual menu parts, which is bad when the menus are white on white because it’s very hard to tell interactive elements from labels. The old design was better in that regard (and even that lacked contrast).

The new pack icons are just plain bad and look blurry, like they’re way too low res for their size. The gradient design is NOT a good idea. Weak colours on white background is a no-no. The design literally blends into the white because again, they lack contrast. Can we please get the old ones back? At least they were clear and didn’t look like they 16×16 pixels blown up to 64×64.

Also, a some of the “fixes” from the June patch actually broke a few things. Like laundry bags now floats after all Sims and they struggle to path to dishwashers, often leaving dirty dishes all over the house.

  • I’m glad they fixed toddlers but that (and the few other things they fixed) were hardly the only things wrong with the game after Island Living. What about mermaids not passing down their genetics? What about the acting career being broken af? This is so frustrating.

    • The game has been messed up since way before Island Living. It was only the icing on the cake. I find it hard to believe I played since the first game and now I am really about to leave this series for good. I have found other games with far less bugs and more enjoyment. I would only return to this series again if they decided to throw out their personal and political opinions in favor of releasing quality content. They really released these recent silly updates while the game is still unplayable for many? I realize the company is hurting badly “hence the re branding” but this behavior is truly base. I expect this from EA and now Maxis too.

I find the lack of coverage from “so-called” games journalist to be even more disturbing. They are clearly on the EA payroll and it’s not cute at all.

  • Thank you for fixing no bugs that came with island living, thanks for making the game unplayable. My game was perfect yesterday, patch happens and now I went from 10-40 seconds loading screen to 8 mins, staring at the horrid blue affecting my ADHD & hypersensitivity, only to find out that this patch has somehow destroyed performance on my gaming laptop. Build mode is so laggy it’s unplayable, live mode is more laggy than sims 3 island paradise and unplayable…That is sad.

FIX THIS or give me back all my money for all that I have invested into this game. This is ridiculous.
Oh and next time y’all want to make drastic changes that can affect people’s health. DO A POLL.

  • Xb1
Is this update only for PC? Not finding the create a story in CAS and it’s kinda frustrating if it is only PC because it’s supposed to be a rebranding meaning every console……

  • The cars aren’t showing up in my game… is there a specific pack they’re tied to? If so, that’s some buuuuullshirt.

  • I’ve tried several times to get the new cheat to work. I put it in exactly as it’s written but the objects aren’t showing up in Build Mode.

  • My computer updated the game, it included the new interface however it did not include the new sim clothing or the sim story in CAS. Am I missing something or is this fix already in the works?

      • I found a new hairstyle a new pants and new shirt. Of says that if you already own the pack that has those items in it there would be new features added to those things. Maybe check in cas the things you have and see what has changed. I had trouble finding the things too. EA is sneaky with adding new CAS content

  • Has anyone noticed that the new update deleted some of the last update features? No costume party or black and white party anymore? I am super bummed about that.

  • After running the update I have lost sound on my PC. Trying to figure it out but this is really annoying.

  • what a horrible update
my kids hate the update and now refuse to play the game
please implement a option to return game to the previous style/format
otherwise its 2 more gamers you have lost who no longer spend there money on addons

seriously if it aint broke don’t fix it!!! maybe fix what is broke!
    its not rocket science

  • After the update I can no longer open the game. It always gives me this Initialization Error..

I already talked to an EA tech support, gave me another link to update the Origin App. Tried running the game again, and still no progress. It is just frustrating when I just bought 2 new bundles. :(

Now I’ve decided to uninstall the Origin App again..

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    • UPDATE: So, i tinkered with the origin app and saw below Settings the “Repair” option. clicked on it and i think it updated all the packs and bundles too. Now its working smoothly. omg. im so happy. :)

  • So is this all for base game players too. Also I ak anlesbian and have been trying to make my sims that way for the longest how do I get to lwrsonality quizzes and find tue new sims when it it just keeos showing me the same ones

  • So, without any doubt this update is causing more problems along with June’s patch. Are they crazy? They did not even solved/fixed the issues with the previous patch! Sims still can’t watch the TV, take soaks and massages, interactions with other sims are cancelled when more than one is on queue. It’s not a matter of CC/Mods because I’ve tested the game without them more than once. When are they going to put their hands on these serious issues, instead of giving us more problems?

    • exactly, when I updated I tried going to load game and it didn’t let me and now I cant go into my old games and I cant save my sims to the gallery

  • Any changes to skin detail and body detail aren’t carried over into the other outfits so I have to repeat it FOR EVERY OUTFIT. Please fix that. Makes CAS use unbearably slow.

And if I make the mistake of randomizing my traits IT CHANGES EVER PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTE I SPENT THE LAST 30 MINUTES putting together. Please do something about this as well.

  • Sims 4 – I’m on Xbox one you did the update yesterday.. since the update game lags like Krazy have had to restart my game 4 times because it’s not registering things told to do or aspirations not registering… Cleaned the island fully twice not registering that either.. please fix for Xbox one console version please… Lol I have the Xbox one x I should add and I haven’t got a clue about modding
