The latest Sims 4 update October 2023 has arrived on Halloween this year but if players were expecting spooky treats and creepy goodies, well… this update has none of that. What it does have is bug fixes, Gallery moderation tweaks, and Discovery Quests! What are Discovery Quests, you ask?
Participate in discovery quests to learn more about game features and earn rewards!
Discovery quests are yet another tutorial-ish thing for new players who may not know the basics of The Sims 4, yet, like how to make money or how to build skills. Yup. That means we have Lessons, Scenarios, Emily’s tutorial popups, a whole tutorial mode, and now Discovery Quests. Is a sandbox life sim game so difficult that it needs five different tutorial systems? Anyway, that’s another topic. Here’s everything you need to know about Discovery Quests.

The Sims 4 Update October 2023 Overview
Discovery Quests

In short, Discovery Quests are kind of like mini-Scenarios that take players through a series of simplistic goals to show them how to use basic features of the game such as aspirations, making money, building skills, and managing motives. The main difference is that there’s no story attached to said goals. It’s just a straight up tutorial. Also, you can’t select which Discovery Quest you want to do from the menu like a Scenario.
Discovery Quests are offered to you via a phone notification as you play through the game. For example, you may get offered the Scoring Simoleons Discovery Quest very shortly after starting a new game. You can accept, reject, or save the quest to do at a later time. If you accept the quest, you’ll have some new goals to complete in the top left corner of the screen. The Scoring Simoleons goals walk you though all the ways of making money in the game, so the goals are mostly centred around getting a job and crafting/selling things.

Complete all the goals to complete the Discovery Quest and earn a reward for your efforts. The reward is usually something related to that Discovery Quest, so you’ll earn simoleons from the Scoring Simoleons quest, satisfaction points from the Lifelong Aspirations quest, and so on.

All in all, not the most exciting new feature. Newbies already have many hand-holding tutorials to help them in the game and veteran players will likely find these quests redundant. However, you do get free stuff from finishing them so players may still want to do them just for the incentives. Everyone likes free stuff, right?

Discovery Quests can be disabled in the Game Options, under Tutorials & Tips.
Gallery Moderation

In more not-that-exciting news, the latest Sims 4 update October 2023 also brings some new profanity filters to the Gallery. The new filters apply to all languages and are supposed to be an improvement over the previous profanity filters.
This new moderation system has not been used in The Sims 4 before but has been applied to other games so it has been tested in that respect.
Bug Fixes
The meat and potatoes of the Sims 4 update October 2023 is bug fixes. Bug fixes have been applied to both the base game and several packs. For a closer look at all the bug fixes in this Sims 4 update October 2023, check out the full patch notes.
