The Sims 4 Snowy Escape: Collection Guide

Presented by EA Game Changers

The Sims 4 Snowy Escape comes with one official collection and one “unofficial” collection; Simmi and Spirit Dolls. Simmi are a collection of cute decorative dolls that come inside colourful capsules and Spirit Dolls are cloth dolls that hang from wall hooks; they are representations of Mt. Komorebi’s forest spirits.

Simmi

The Sims 4 Snowy Escape: Collection Guide

Simmi capsules can be obtained several different ways. The most common way to get Simmi capsules is from Simmi Vending Machines found around Mt. Komorebi; however, some rarer Simmi can only be obtained by attending and participating in certain festivals. Sims can also ask Mt. Komorebi’s mascot, Yamachan, for a capsule.

There are a total of 24 Simmi to collect, comprised of 12 standard Simmi and 12 gold versions of those Simmi. The game considers the collection complete once a Sim has collected all 12 standard edition Simmi, but the gold versions do still show up in the Collections panel.

In addition to rarity, Simmi also have a unique star rating. The Simmi range from 1 to 5 stars in rarity. The gold versions have the same star rating as their standard versions but in gold. All the gold Simmi are rare and worth much more simoleons than their standard versions.

Spirit Dolls

The Sims 4 Snowy Escape: Collection Guide

Spirit Dolls are not an “official” collection in Snowy Escape; they don’t show up in the Collections panel, but Sims can still collect these cute dolls nonetheless by interacting with any forest spirits they come across while hiking or going on mountain excursions. A successful interaction with a forest spirit will gift your Sim with a doll version of that spirit to take home with them and display on their wall.

There are a total of 5 Spirit Dolls to collect; each with their own unique colour, facial expression, and string style.

The Sims 4: Hot Fix Update for crashing planned for next week

2

The Sims 4’s latest update caused the game for some players to crash. This issue was especially present among players who played the game on PS4 as well as PC players.

After The Sims Team acknowledged the issue just two days ago, they’ve released a new statement today explaining more what their plans to fix the problem is. They’ve stated that as of right now, an estimated time of the Hot Fix Update that should fix the crashing issue is next week!

See the full statement from SimGuruNick:

Hi, Simmers. Following the latest game update, we have noticed an uptick in crashes on PC, Mac, and especially PS4. We are working on resolving the issue as quickly as possible and appreciate your patience. The current ETA is next week. Meanwhile, you can use the workaround below. It means you won’t have any sound, however the game should run without the audio-related crashes.

If you find concise reproducible steps for getting a crash or for audio going away on its own, your input would be very helpful in Answers HQ.

We also will take save games where the issue can readily be reproduced. We are sorry about this disruption. Thank you for your help and patience.

-SimGuruNick

HOW TO DISABLE AUDIO

Adding the -nosound argument on PC and Mac disables audio at a core level to avoid the audio-related crashes for the time being.

Origin (PC/Mac)

  1. Go to “My Game Library”.
  2. Right click on The Sims 4 and select “Game Properties”.
  3. Select the “Advanced Launch Options” tab.
  4. In the “Command line arguments” text field, add -nosound and select “Save”.

Steam

  1. Go to “Library”.
  2. Right click on The Sims 4 and select “Properties”.
  3. Click the “Set Launch Options…” button.
  4. Add -nosound in the text field and click “OK”.

PS4

  • You can try adjusting the master volume in the Game Options to be 0%. We have had mixed results with this.

Player Creates Spiral Stairs using nothing but Platforms in The Sims 4

Simmers have been up to all kinds of crazy things using the new Platform Tool in The Sims 4! From Bunk Beds to Indoor Cinemas there’s a lot of possibilities that sparked the community to explore.

Player @ellabellab0 has tweeted out an astonishing discovery – Spiral Stairs that have been built using exclusively through the new Platforms!

I wanted to test these out for myself in the game so I downloaded the Spiral Staircase Lot that they’ve uploaded from The Gallery. You can find it yourself under thet Ellabellab0 Origin ID! P.S. – there’s also a Room with nothing but Spiral Stairs uploaded too!

Player Creates Spiral Stairs using nothing but Platforms in The Sims 4

I’ve placed down the stairs in the middle of the lot to playtest and see if they’re fully functional. These stairs have been built using a square tile wall that has triangular platforms stacked one on top of another until the final platform level. I’ve playtested to see if my Sims would actually be able to use these Spiral Stairs and they’re definitely able to reach the top!

Player Creates Spiral Stairs using nothing but Platforms in The Sims 4

Going down these “Spiral Stairs” also isn’t an issue. I’ve also tried to connect a whole different room / new floor level with the last step of stairs that have been placed down on top of the last platform and Sims are able to access that area without any issues.

Player Creates Spiral Stairs using nothing but Platforms in The Sims 4

However, I did notice a small issue. When going up the Stairs Sims would get a little confused? when reaching the final angle of these Spiral Stairs, causing them to stop for a few seconds until they continue and reach their final destination on the top.

I was able to easily solve this issue by just extending the corner for one tile so that Sims would have enough space to reach their final point without freezing.

You’ll be able to place these Spiral Stairs down anyhwere inside (or outside) your lot!

Huge thanks to Ellabellab0 once again for this amazing discovery.

The Sims 4 Snowy Escape: All About Festivals

Presented by EA Game Changers

The Sims 4 Snowy Escape brings three brand new festivals to the world of Mt. Komorebi. We first saw Festivals added back when City Living was released back in November 2016. They were exciting and interesting but there was only a handful that Sims could experience and over time they would start to feel slightly repetitive. Even though we saw the addition of smaller festival-like events in more recent packs, Snowy Escape is the first expansion to follow suit with Festivals since City Living.

Getting Started

You can find out about Festivals by heading over to one of the many information boards that you can find throughout the three neighborhoods of Mt. Komorebi. Here you will be able to find out the Festival Schedule as well as finding out more about the next festival. You’ll also notice you’ll have options to Check Daily Wildlife Report and learn more about Hiking, Snow Sports, and the Onsen Bathhouse.

You may find an information board that displays a larger map. These information boards are specific for Sims wanting to go on Hikes and will not display any information about Festivals. These are found more towards the outskirts of the neighborhoods.

The Sims 4 Snowy Escape: All About Festivals

Attending A Festival

Attending a Festival is easy. You will get a pop-up on the notification wall letting you know that the Festival is due to start. Simply click on the Show Festival Info button to find out more and it will give you the option to travel straight to the Festival location.

The Sims 4 Snowy Escape: All About Festivals
The Festivals

Festival of Light

The Festival of Light is aimed around having your Sims take a moment to pause and admire the beauty of the world around you. The tradition helps Sims remember those who have sadly passed on but to also celebrate the light. An evening filled with fireworks, spotting the lanterns floating along the river and making a Tanabata wish.

  • Location: Senbamachi Neighbourhood
  • When: Every other Friday. 6 pm – 1 am

Festival Activities

Eat Exclusive Taikaki – Taiyaki may look like a fish, but don’t be fooled! These famous fish-shaped cakes have a delicious filling that comes in a variety of flavors.

The Sims 4 Snowy Escape: Salaryperson Career Guide

Presented by EA Game Changers

The Salaryperson Career is the only new career that comes with The Sims 4 Snowy Escape. The career comes with two different branches that your Sim can explore.

As with any career, your Sim can join the Salaryperson Career simply by sitting down at a laptop/computer, using their cell phone, or by the job tab on the user interface. You should keep in mind that if your Sim has completed a degree that relates to the chosen career that your Sim is joining, they have the option to either start at the lowest level or at a higher point in the career. You will also notice that your Sim will receive a higher hourly rate and a signing bonus (which is only awarded once per Sim every seven days) and also more vacation days.

Once you have joined the career you will notice a Daily Task and set of Promotion Tasks have appeared in the Career panel. You can either start those tasks right away or hold off and do it at a time that suits your Sim better. Just make sure you keep on top of the tasks as they help your Sim reach their next promotion.

When it is time for your first shift you will be prompted in the careers panel to Go to Work, although your Sim should automatically change into their default work outfit and make their own way to work.

The Sims Team is investigating Sims 4 Crashes on PC and PS4

18

Ever since the latest update for The Sims 4 many players have started reporting frequent crashes when playing the game. Sometimes the crashes would occur every 30 minutes or so, not really depending on what they were doing in the game. The issue has mostly been reported by players who play The Sims 4 on PC and PS4. For PC it’s the usual “Application has stopped working” message while for PS4 it’s the “An error occured…(CE-34878-0)” message.

SimGuruNick, a Quality Designer working on The Sims 4 has acknowledged the issue and stated that their team is currently investigating the cause of these crashes. Although it’s not known when a hot fix will come out to fix the crashing issue, you can help out speed up the process by sharing your own experiences and save files so that The Sims Team can investigate.

You can share your own experiences / save file information in the following EA Answers threads. Before reporting make sure that what you’re experiencing is not the cause of outdated Custom Content / Mods!

Welcome to Mt. Komorebi

The Sims 4 Snowy Escape comes with three premade families already living in Mt. Komorebi, but these families are unlike any premade families we’ve seen previously in The Sims 4. This is because for the first time since The Sims 2, every family in Mt. Komorebi has pre-existing connections with the other residents in the world; these connections range from positive to negative and are helped along by the new Sentiments system. This not only makes the Sims of Mt. Komorebi feel more real and complex, but also gives the player more tools to create powerful stories (and maybe some drama) between these Sims.

So without any further delay, let’s meet the residents of Mt. Komorebi!

The Ito Household

Household Description

Megumi Ito grew up in Senbamachi. A gold medalist skier, she aims to give her children the same upbringing, but memories of an old flame might drive her to distraction. Naoki Ito is a former medalist himself. A calculating businessman, his controversial vision of Mt. Komorebi includes more tourism, more money, and modernization. Nanami and Kiyoshi have their parents’ athletic talent, but their hearts lie elsewhere. Nanami just wants to be a kid and Kiyoshi is crushing on more than the slopes…

Household Notes

  • Megumi and Kado are ex-lovers. The household description hints that Megumi may be tempted to stray from her husband and rekindle her old flame with Kado; however, this may take some effort on the player’s part considering she has the Hurt sentiment about him.
  • Naoki has a negative relationship with Shigeru; they both harbour the Festering Grudge sentiment with each other. This could cause some tension in the household, considering Naoki’s wife is good friends with Shigeru’s wife and Naoki’s son has strong romantic feelings for Shigeru’s granddaughter.
  • Kiyoshi and Kaori have the potential for a forbidden romance, or “Romeo & Juliet” story, since Kiyoshi’s father and Kaori’s grandfather dislike each other.
  • Nanami’s Kleptomaniac trait might indicate she’s acting out and trying to rebel against the high standards her successful parents have imposed on her.
  • If Get Famous is installed, Naoki and Megumi will start out as celebrities; Megumi will be a Rising Star and Naoki will be a Noticeable Newcomer. This is most likely due to them both being former Olympian medalists.

GOT7’s BamBam X The Sims 4: Official Play With Life Video

1

Just hours after The Sims announced that they’ll be partnering with BamBam – Thailand’s biggest rapper superstar and member of the GOT7 South Korean boyband – they released an official promo Play With Life video to start off the campaign!

This creative Play With Life promo video showcases some of the things you can do in the game and their portrayal in real life! The video however is in Thai and mostly intended for Thai audiences, but you can still check it out down below!

Sentiments and how they affect the Autonomy and Relationships in The Sims 4

Sentiments aren’t just shiny new badges that Sims in The Sims 4 earn after positive or negative results of certain interactions. They determine the way Sims behave in front of each other and how their autonomous behavior will be after getting a certain Sentiment.

We’ve listed all 53 Sentiments in The Sims 4 that you can get in the Base Game (and Snowy Escape too!). Now, check out how Sentiments affect the autonomous behavior of your Sims!

To best illustrate and describe which stories you can tell with Sentiments we’ve asked the amazing @AnotherPlumbob to write about his experiences in The Sims 4 and how Sentiments controlled their Sims’ autonomy. Check it out!

Mary Sue and Daniel don’t have the best marriage.

Sentiments and how they affect the Autonomy and Relationships in The Sims 4

It may have something to do with the fact that Daniel is having an affair with the maid: Kaylynn. He has a close sentiment and a powerful bond with her, so he usually gets positive (playful or happy) moodlets around her.

Today Mary Sue was demoted in her job and came back home early…so she found a quite unpleasant scene: Kaylynn and Daniel making out in HER bedroom!

Mary Sue was not only angry (she autonomously slapped Daniel) but she also developed a FURIOUS sentiment against Daniel (in a previous playthrough this sentiment was “BITTERNESS” – I still don’t know why she got furious this time around).

What does this mean? Mary Sue is now more prone to have negative interactions with Daniel. Over the next few hours, Mary Sue autonomously performed mean interactions on her husband and most of their conversations started off as either “unpleasant” or “awkward” encounters. Needless to say, Daniel’s attempts to flirt (autonomous too) failed.

Not only that…when Mary Sue is around Daniel, she gets moodlets that are fuelled by her fury: most likely angry moodlets.

At some point, Mary Sue must have crossed a line, because Daniel got hurt with Mary Sue too. This means he got sad or angry around her because of the things she said.

The next morning, Mary Sue’s angry moodlet about the affair had gone away (it only lasts 24 hours). But she was still furious at Daniel. Daniel’s hurt sentiments had turned to anger. But time time around Mary Sue’s fury turned into a confident moodlet: she realised it was all Daniel’s fault (duh).

So I decided to do what had to be done: Mary Sue divorced Daniel.

In a previous play through of this scenario, when Mary Sue was bitter and not furious, she got a further sentiment after the divorce: resentful. However, this time around she didn’t get any further sentiments.

Now, Daniel was feeling pretty miserable after the divorce. Since his relationship with his daughter Lilith is not the best (they had an on-going grudge), Lilith is gloating at his father’s unhappiness. She gets a happy moodlet every time she sees him cry.

On the other hand, Angela has a deep connection with her mom, so seeing her sad makes her sad too.

With all the drama going on at home, Angela decides to go on a date with her boyfriend Dustin. She has an enamored sentiment with him (smitten) and feels a deep connection, so she is usually happy and/or flirty around him.

After their date, Dustin thanks her for an amazing time (he was tense at the beginning of the date, but got in a better mood after it) and he gained a “close sentiment” with Angela: closer from happy memories.

List of all the Sentiments in The Sims 4

The Sims 4’s newest and biggest gameplay addition in the latest update are Sentiments, also known as feelings / memories that Sims have between each other.

They can be obtained through experiences and interactions that two Sims do together. What’s interesting about them is that not all Sentiments will be attributed to Sims mutually. This means that one Sim can be resentful about their recent divorce while the other Sim can be perfectly chill about it.

Sentiments are still pretty fresh to the game and there’s a lot of time required in order for us to fully understand how they work. Until we do an extensive research guide on Sentiments and how they affect your Sims I thought it would be a good idea to list all of the Sentiments that you have in the game. This list will help you out in realizing how many sentiments there actually are as well as possibly guide you to obtaining them. Huge thanks to Zerbu for helping out with the list!

I’ve seperated the Sentiments into Positive and Negative. Positive Sentiments are Sentiments that will affect your Sims’ mood and autonomy in a more friendly, positive way. There are also some Sentiments that come exclusively through gameplay from The Sims 4 Snowy Escape Expansion Pack – which I’ve also marked below!

Here’s a list of all of them! Please note that I’ve converted all of the game code lingo into references to Sim #1 – a Sim who feels the Sentiment and Sim #2 – a Sim who helped cause the Sentiment!

Positive Sentiments

  • Awed (by Lifesaving Hero) – Sim #2 literally saved Sim #1 from the clutches of death. Sim #1 is grateful and amazed!
  • Adoring – Sim #1 just wants the best for Sim #2 and thinks they are so wonderful!

  • First Kiss at the Festival of Light (Snowy Escape) – Sim #1 and Sim #2 shared a first kiss at the Festival of Light, and the sparks of romance are still burning bright.
  • No Mountain High Enough for This Love (Snowy Escape) – Sim #1 should have been more careful while climbing Mt. Komorebi, because now they have fallen deeply in love! Where Sim #2 goes, Sim #1 wants to go, too, and no mountain can get in the way of their love.

Negative Sentiments

  • Betrayed (by Cheating Infidelity) – has soured Sim #1’s feelings for Sim #2. Sim #1 may find that being around Sim #2 brings back bad memories about what happened.
  • Festering Grudge – Sim #1 has a deep-seated grudge against Sim #2. It’s hard to forget or forgive the past, which may make being around Sim #2 feel very unpleasant for Sim #1.

  • Bitter about Breakup – Sim #1 can’t quite shake some resentment towards Sim #2 about how their romantic relationship ended. Sim #1 might find it unpleasant to be around Sim #2 for a while.
  • Resentful about Divorce Sim #1 has some resentment leftover from their divorce. Sim #1 may not enjoy being around Sim #2.
  • Resentful about a Failed Mountain Climb (Snowy Escape) – When Sim #2 led an excursion to climb Mt. Komorebi, Sim #1 had high expectations. their hopes were crushed and the summit remained out of reach, alas!

  • Didn’t Receive Blessing at Festival of Youth (Snowy Escape) – Sim #1 did not receive a blessing during the Festival of Youth, and it still stings. All the other kids got blessed! Or so Sim #1 thinks, anyway.
